Weary after another return trip from the surface as he entered his study, Dolon sluggishly closed the new descriptive book, moving it from his work desk to the ever-growing stack of failures. After writing an entry in his work-log, he finished his post-test motions and let his head fall onto the assorted papers and journals that littered his desk with a soft thunk. He needed to take a break or he would burn himself out, but at the same time, he needed to keep trying...

Bringing his tail up, he held it against himself for a few moments, the fur giving him a bit of comfort as he stewed in his dilemma. In the long run, spending a few days doing something else wouldn't kill him. As it was, writing each Age averaged out to more than a month of work. But what would he do? It wasn't as if there was anything left unexplored in the caverns, except perhaps more tunnels, but those wouldn't be entirely entertaining. Not when there was already an entire deserted city here, with decades worth of books to read and...

Well, it had been a while since he had visited the main library of the cavern. Perhaps reading of other people's mistakes would distract him from his own.

---------------------------------------

Hours into sifting through the Ae'gura Library's archives, he came across an interesting entry. As far as he could translate, it centered around the survey of a surface structure by an apprentice. It didn't bode well for the guildsman, and he ended up being stripped of his already low rank and excluded from activities within the Guild of Surveyors for a period of time. Could have been much worse, but his youth probably aided in his defense. Dolon wondered for a moment about tracking down the structure, maybe leaving the caverns would do him good? He could probably use the sun and air. Or just the air.

Dolon searched the archives and gathered up every reference he could find of the case, and the surface structure that had been the original focus. He had to visit a few of the more scattered archives, but soon enough he had a decently sized pile of papers and a book or two on the matter. Adding to that his journal, blank books, various inks and pens, and of course food, he packed everything into a bag and set out for the surface.

Click to show.Sarpati had taken up the task of reworking the castle's drainage system, unraveling and weaving it again in sections, waiting for a rainstorm after each to ensure the lines were correctly placed. This would probably bore and frustrate any other construction crew, but Sarpati was in no rush. What were days and weeks to him? Better to get the whole thing done right the first time.

Today was one of those days that he could test out his work, moving around the section of woven tubes and pipes, making sure everything was as it should be as it continued to lightly rain. There was one spot that needed tweaking, but nothing major. Moving up to the various collection points upstream of the new section, he checked those as well. All good, now he just needed to wait out the storm, let everything dry, and continue.

Making his way down through the open atrium, Sarpati settled his feet firmly onto the wet stone flooring before unraveling the ramps, ladders, and scaffolds he had woven. Heading up the stairs again, he decided to spend the rest of the storm watching the surrounding landscape be rejuvenated. If he was any good at drawing he probably would have captured the beauty of everything, but even after so many years he had never gotten the hang of it. The only lasting memory of how things had changed over time was his own.

He had taken up writing for a few years, but acquiring books and ink eventually became too problematic, and his last entries were now decades old. Now that he thought of it though, it had been a while since he looked over those. Perhaps that would help pass the time while he waited out the storm.

Gathering the small stack of books, he settled into a newly-made chair and thumbed through the first journal, losing himself in the log of how the land had changed from his solitary perspective.
