Hobbies:
Fencing - Richard had taken fencing lessons from an early age, thanks to his rather privileged upbringing, and even now he finds himself an active member of the sport. Though he’s not the best there is (pretty close), he’s confident enough in his own abilities to feel like he’s the best in Destiny City University. He’s participated in many tournaments in his time, and with proper training and focus(hahaha), he could even make it to the Olympics! It’s a hobby that’s more or less fallen to the wayside in his recent ‘endeavors’, but it’s still one that he holds close to him.
Gambling - Richard is a man of chance, and another hobby he picked up from a young age was perhaps one a little less respected than fencing, though one of high risk, high rewards. Richard enjoys the thrill of gambling, everything from Black Jack to even slot machines, though those he tends to avoid those (so much work pulling down on a stick for little reward). He doesn’t necessarily care about the money, not to much as the thrill of the game itself, the factor of luck as well as one’s acting ability coming into play, as well as the possibility of social interaction. One meets rather interesting characters when money is at stake... as well as ones’ nerves. Sometimes, Richard simply joins in to see someone sweat. He doesn’t feel he has a gambling problem... one had to be poor and LOSING to have a problem, right?
Galavanting - Richard is quite the social butterfly, and he’d be much better at fencing if he wasn't spending more time at the rave or dance clubs, spreading his wings and doing whatever he could to draw in a crowd. Richard enjoys the great things in life, such as good food, fine wine, beautiful music, as well as the pretty ladies (and the occasional gentleman, when he felt like opening the doors). He’s not necessarily a player, as he’s not really in it for the sex or the love, but simply the companionship and interaction. Though, his form of interaction is more or less anything focused around drawing others attention to himself and being the life of the party, and he’ll go to ridiculous lengths to get that attention he craves. He’s not too picky about where he hangs out, either: football games, ballet recitals, even religious gatherings, so long as there are other people there and their company to enjoy, he’ll be there.
Virtues:
Discretion is the Better Part of Valor - Richard’s cleverness saved him in countless occasions, by simply know when to push forward and when to pull back. Richard has a keen eye for eyeing the flow of events from both the sidelines and even while neck deep in work or involved in an awkward social gathering (which happen way too often for his liking), and the one thing he prides himself in is knowing when to call it. If the situation looks favorable from his standpoint, he’ll leap on it faster than a mongoose to a snake. Others may drive themselves crazy trying to salvage a bad situation, but Richard? Richard knows that sometimes it cannot be saved, and sometimes, one must take a calculated retreat, whether it be a bad business deal, a second-base attempt that just isn't going to happen or a fight gone awry, and he does so with stride. Why should he stress over something when it’s obvious that it’s not worth the effort? For Richard, it’s best to simply know when to enter the tiger’s den and let sleeping tigers lie. Not only does this save him from stress, but it saves him time and effort, something that he does not wish to spend so freely, especially when there is little reward for him.
I Enjoy What I Do - Richard is delightfully energetic and filled to the brim with life, and he’s willing to share it! If you’re going to do something, you might as well enjoy it. Richard takes this very, very seriously. Everywhere he goes, everything he does, he strives to be the very life and essence of the party, and he’ll often find ways to make what could just be a boring activity into a fun-filled and memorable experience. It often saved his sanity throughout his younger years, and he likes to think that all aspects of life are meant to be enjoyed, otherwise, why bother? When life gives Richard lemons, he not only makes lemonade, but he’ll make lemon meringue pie, lemon sorbet, even perhaps find a way to make genuine Lemon Heads as well. He takes unimaginable glee and delight in even the most mundane of ordeals, perhaps pretending he’s doing something he really enjoys, which likely goes just how ‘wild’ his imagination can be to entertain himself so easily. To Richard, he’s the life of the party, and life is but a stage where he’s the main event.
It Takes Two to Tango - Richard thrives in the company of others, making him an extremely friendly and even affectionate kind of guy. Richard believes that the best things come in pairs: shoes, for example, are meant to be purchased in twos, otherwise it’s a waste. One does not simply buy a single doughnut and go about their merry way, do they? Richard feels that life is the same, and he makes it a conscious effort to befriend, or in the very least, acquaintance himself to everyone in the room. He is a social butterfly and when it comes to most things in life, he wants to have someone there to enjoy it with him. Whether that someone is a friend, a fellow student that he picked up one day, or even the romantic interest of the week, he wants someone to be there to enjoy the show with. Even if he’s the one doing all of the talking, or even doing, he feels that life is better with an audience (even as unwilling as they may be). He has no qualms in working with someone, whether in class or on the field, and he’s always willing to share the stage with someone, so long as they do their part, of course!
An Act Worthy of an Oscar! - Richard feels he’s great at many things, among them are his ability to mystify and charm. All the world’s a stage, and Richard doesn’t just dabble in it: he indulges in it. To him, everything is a careful act, meant to throw off the other ‘actors’, even his own friends and allies. It’s not that Richard is ashamed of being human and having such emotions, but he likes to feel as though he’s in control of the situation, and if he’s not, then he’s going to ham it up to make you think he does. Richard prides himself in being able to keep up his careful act no matter what the situation: parties, social gatherings, a thrilling game of poker. If morale is low and a friend is in need of a boost, he’ll often try to give them that boost they need, either with a well-rehearsed bravado or even express a little fear or faux insecurity (should it help in making his friends appear stronger or feel more confident.) He’s so good at it sometimes that he even fools himself! Richard will show fear when he feels he’s in control to throw off others and when they come in for the kill, he’ll drop the act and make his move. All the world’s a stage, and according to Richard, there are few that are better than him... who is he kidding? There are none that can outact him!
Flaws:
Time to Make a Run For It! - If you are looking for reliability, you probably shouldn't be looking for Richard. Richard’s careful eye on the flow of battle and his involvement in it has often brought others to accuse him of being, well... a coward. And they would not be incorrect. When the fight gets tough, Richard gets going, and he wastes no time in ‘shredding rubber’, so to speak, to escape a situation that’s not going his way. He is willing to do much to get the job done, but he is not willing to risk his neck or pretty face the moment things start to look scary, and instead of trying to fight through or salvage a situation, he will simply abandon it. This leaves him with a rather long list of unaccomplished tasks and often frustrates others when delegating a task to him. Not that he -cares- what they think- all that matters to him to saving himself from harm, whether it be physical or academic.
How Does That Scenery Taste? - Having confidence in oneself is always important, but Richard seems to revel in his own glory to the point that... well... to use any other word besides ‘overconfident’ would simply be overkill. Richard has often been compared to a preening peacock, flashing his feathers and making a big deal out of himself. He enjoys the moment, but perhaps he enjoys it a little TOO much. Instead of finishing the task at hand, or laying the final blow on those meddlesome Senshi, he’ll take the time to flash his feathers and enjoy the moment. This leaves him with a gaping blind spot in his defenses and allows for other matters to catch him off guard. There is a time and place for everything, even gloating, but it seems Richard has yet to discover such a time and place for it, though if he had his way, there’s always a chance to take the spotlight.
How Do I Live Without You? - Richard is an extreme extrovert, socially graceful but seemingly lost when it comes to working on his own. Part of Richard’s charm is also part of his curse. When he’s working with a reliable type, he feels he is at his best and none can take him down. But when his partner is taken out or simply abandons him, he finds himself at a loss of what to do and feels vulnerable. It may be hard to tell with his constant scenery chewing, but it’s all an elaborate act that starts to crumble around him the moment he realizes that there is no one there to take the blow or fall for him, or no one to talk at, or to applaud him. What is the point of carrying on when there is no audience to dazzle? He is reliant on such an audience or assistant, to the point that he’s borderline clingy, and very few people can tolerate him on a normal day, much less stand to constantly stroke that Jupiter-sized ego of his!
When Beauty Becomes the Beast - Beneath Richard’s glamour and glitz, one would find he’s quite vulnerable, and when he’s vulnerable, Richard will respond aggressively. When the curtains fall and Richard’s pinned in a corner with no fall man nor a way out, he’ll lash out and if one thought he was bad before, they’d likely hit the hills running now. He will spare no expense and offer little mercy to those that throw an insult too far, or have the audacity to scratch his beloved car, retaliating in ways that would make even a sailor blush, and sometimes, his verbal lashings are just as brutal, if not more, than his fists. It is stressful, maddening even, to keep up appearances, and when the time comes that he can finally unbutton his shirt and let his hair down (so to speak), he simply loses it. When backed into a corner, the preening peacock will not think twice about defending himself, verbally or physically, no matter the cost, and he has a terrible habit of going overboard in his own defense.
