Welcome!

This marks the start of Sunday's Farm Raid.

This thread serves as an entry point to the rp and as a role-call. It will open at about 1:30 pm CST and finish around 2:30 pm CST. This gives people time to adjust to several people in one rp as well as a chance for people to finish up whatever else they've got going on and settle in.

I am aware of a few people that will be late to the party, if you are one of those please quote me in the main thread of the shop to get my attention and I'll get you settled into a team. You can act like your rabbit's been there all along.

-------------------------------------------

Suggestions
Just some tips to help survive posting in a chaotic free-for-all

- 'claim' your post first before typing up your response. You can always go back and edit your post and fill in the rp, but that lets your teammates and me know to wait and expect something.

- Keep your rabbit's post-style copied in a notepad and easily grabbed for whenever you need.

- I suggest putting a thumbnail image of your bun in the corner of each post so that people that aren't familiar with you or your rabbit will quickly know and understand who they're talking to and interacting with.

If you don't know how to make an image a thumbnail:
- grab the image's url
- and add "th_" right before the image's name. Example below.

Original url:
http://i1156.photobucket.com/albums/p561/WDpets/Tags/HeronCert.png

Thumbnail image:
http://i1156.photobucket.com/albums/p561/WDpets/Tags/th_HeronCert.png

- Keep your teammates in the loop. I highly suggest creating a large chatroom on Skype, MSN, AIM or even something as silly as creating a game on Gaia like in Puzzles and give the password to your teammates. That way you can talk to each other quickly on a private channel and hopefully grab their attention when needed. If all of these things aren't available, quote people in the main thread, PM them, or even make small OOC notes in the bottom of your rp posts to let them know when you're going afk for water or need to run somewhere.

- Try the Buddy System. If you know and trust someone on your team with your phone number, offer to swap numbers and text each other when something happens or they're needed.

PostPosted: Sun Nov 25, 2012 7:45 am

Rules

- Common sense here, people.
- Yes, you may edit your posts. Please don't delete them though.
- Please don't argue with the staff. We're doing our best here.

Questions?

Now's the time to ask. Quote me in the main thread for my attention.

The large doe twitched an ear before giving in to the urge to clean it, running her paws over its length as she waited.
And waited.

Sighing, she hunkered down into the dead grass, conserving body heat while the rabbits gathered on the top of the Down. First the silly races, and now this.

Not that the warren didn't need food, it certainly did. Especially with the handful of silly marli that decided to kitten so late. Althea just didn't... want to be responsible for more deaths. Falcon's loss was still very fresh, as was Charcoal's near brush with Inle`. There was sense in it though, they really did need more food and more Owslas. All the runners new and old had barely any luck searching out flay afield; if they were going to survive this winter they were going to need to more force.

At least that's what she kept telling herself to soothe the aggregation of thoughts. Raven, her very own kitten... Not that she wasn't proud, but it felt like only a few turns of Frith ago that she had just barely escaped the last raid with her life. Though they'd torn up that pffefa but good in repayment.

Smirking at the memory as she stretched out her hind leg to examine the old scars there, Althea had nearly forgotten what it felt like as the cat's claws had raked over her. Almost.

Ah, well. Raven wouldn't be going into the barn this time, the Owsla doe had her orders.

And now that Frith was just starting to drop from his midpoint in the sky, it was high-time she started to act on them. May Frith and El-ahrairah watch over the whole lot of them today.

Standing tall and using her added height to draw attention her way, she gave them another moment before stamping her foot once, trying to call attention without causing panic.

"Alright, alright. I do believe that's everyone."

Speeches, she hated speeches. Hraka. But it had to be done. Sucking in a breath, she reviewed silently before attempting to bolster the crowd.

"Thank you for volunteering for this raid, I don't think I need to explain the importance of it, you all live here and know."

She glanced around the gathering, nodding to those she recognized and glad to see at least Crocus and Dogsbane here.

"This will be a night raid, we will make our way to the farm together and then split up into groups once there. Be careful, be safe, be full of tricks. And-"

Here she made a point to search out Raven and glare for a moment, remembering how Raven's sister had gotten caught in the raid before.

"Check for snares. Frith knows, there's enough danger as is. That's it, follow me you lot. If we want to get to the farm tonight best we move out now."

Not bothering to say anything else and quite done with the whole affair before it even truly began, she turned and started her decent of the Down. It crossed her mind to bralrah, to pray, but Frith was either with them today, or he wasn't.

User ImageMud had heard about the raid and at first she had simply let it slide past her. She had no want to travel to the farm with a large group of possibly untrained rabbits to maybe get themselves killed. She especially had no love for the captain of the owsla, and she just assumed he would be leading it. Thus she had let it slip past her and continued on her way. Though she did feel a twinge of guilt, she had probably seen more than half the rabbits that were going. Knew the way of the outside world better than they did, still she could not bring herself to follow orders from that insufferable homba’s rear end.

It would be a couple of days later that she would eventually answer the call, after finding out that a particular female Owsla was lead. She liked Althea well enough, knew about her from some talk around the down. She personally had never met the doe but that was beside the point. With the thought of the dreaded captain out of the way she slowly began to bend. Eventually feeling it was her duty, she had to feed her sister and herself through the long winter months.

The day of the raid left her fidgety or at least fidgety for her. She was constantly cleaning her ears and checking Frith’s position in the great blue. She had paced slightly at first, being unable to focus on any one task for most of the morning. It was not excitement that had her moving about like this, but anticipation. She knew very well that some of them would not come back alive, she hoped for the best, but expected the worst. Today was going to be one of those days where she wouldn’t be able to rest.

She had been one of the first, if not the first, excluding Althea herself, to arrive at the meeting point atop the down. She had been careful in her approach, her ears moving every which way checking, listening, always aware. She moved into the clearing easily and settled off to the side. Not in the middle where all the hubbub would be. She had hunkered down into the grass, hiding herself well among it’s browning colors.

She had watched as the other rabbits appeared, as they had gathered together to set off on their journey. She hadn’t said much of anything to anyone, and thus was one of the first to snap to attention when Althea started to speak. She had listened, ears erect and eyes focused. Taking in everything the Owsla doe had to say before standing and stretching slightly.

While part of her wanted to slink to the back or outside edges of the group she knew she would probably be better near the front. She had been avoiding snares for some time and knew a bit of what to look for. That and another part of her would rather not be the last to know of some danger. She fell in behind Althea, as silent as a shadow, slightly off to her left, near the outward edge but still close to the front. There was no laughter, or giggle in here, no playfulness in her eyes, it was strictly business.

Ansithary had been one of the first to answer the call for recruits. She had raced to sign up for the raid, wanting to be a part of something bigger than herself. Something that would help the warren and perhaps show Snakeroot that she was capable of taking care of herself; she aspired to be a runner and this was a good chance she felt. It was no game, she knew that but it was still so exciting that she couldn’t quite help the bounce in her step the remaining days leading up to the raid.

She found it even more inspiring that the lead was another female. There was a place for females in the ranks, and Althea proved that if nothing else. Althea had been a bit of an inspiration for the young doe, as well as Hlal’Loir, who had been one of the first female runners. It was all so exciting that she could barely contain herself.

She hadn’t told Snakeroot that she was signing up, planning on sneaking away from their down to join the raid and be gone and back before Snakeroot ever noticed. What she had not expected was for Snakeroot to have somehow already found out and signed up herself. She didn’t figure the female would care that much to go on a raid; after all she was much too careful.

Anisthary had gone racing at full speed towards the meeting spot, shocked when she ended up there later than some others that had already arrived. Still she didn’t let that get her down, settling herself dead center of the meeting area, directly in front of where Althea was. She was jovial and light hearted speaking to those around her in an excited whisper.

She was gonna make her mark, she just knew it. There was nothing that was going to stop her now. She would teach that Snakeroot that though she might be small she could still do big things. Ani had never imagined that Snakeroot would walk up and plop down beside her like nothing was wrong. Like this was just a normal day and the two had planned to meet up here earlier.

Ani could do little more than splutter at the female for a moment before, “Snake, what are you doing here?” She hissed out in a whisper. However before she could get an answer they were already moving out. Anisthray started out but she stuck close to Snakeroot still waiting on an explanation as to why the other doe was here.

Snakeroot had known for quite some time that the impending Raid would frazzle her nerves, had known that it would send her into worrying fits that she would have to keep to herself in order to hold the secret that she knew what that little doe was up to, but even knowing had not prepared her for the day of the meeting.

She awoke that morning with an ache to the side of her head, making her wonder if she had bumped it at all the past leao, as she had been doing quite a bit of moving around in her sleep. It threatened to get worse as the day went on, and though she willed it away with every chance she got, it did not stop it from persisting.

It was quite possibly the perfect start to a day that would undoubtedly only go downhill.

It was, fortunately, not long after she had finally gathered her wits about her, calming herself to a point that was presentable, that the rabbits were called on. Snakeroot hopped her way across the Down to the gathering with a hesitant foot, and upon spotting Anis in the growing crowd, took a seat beside her with a quiet little grin. She looked on to Althea without paying much attention to Anis and her floundering, her ears perked toward the Owsla while she spoke in that manner that caught and held attention without her ever needing to raise her voice. She listened carefully, and took her leave with amusement as they began to move out.

Anis was hanging back, her eyes settled on Snakeroot waiting for an answer, who conceded after a passing moment. “Why do you think I’m here Anis?” she asked, glancing over to meet her gaze. Of course she had gone around and asked about Anisthary joining the Raid, which only proved to confirm what she had suspected in the first place. She knew Anis far too well to let some large scale Raid slip right past her. She had been standing beside Anisthary for years like an ever present shadow, so she really wasn’t sure what had the little doe thinking things would be any different now.

A small pain erupted behind her eyes, the same pain that had been threatening to cripple her all day, and she let out a small, almost inaudible yowl. She had hoped it had subsided by now, but it seemed hoping had been all it was. She had never had such a persisting pain from something like a mere bump to the head, but the pain was likely only worsening from how anxious she was. She wouldn’t allow it to compromise her, and would play it off if Anis asked anything, or if anyone asked for that matter.

Pepper sighed softly to himself as the younger does and bucks gathered at the meeting place around him. While he wasn't ancient, Pepper certainly was feeling his age. Not that he couldn't keep up with the younger group. Pepper felt obligated to join in on this raid. They needed someone who knew the dangers and let's face it, Pepper certainly did.

Nodding to Althea, Pepper surveyed the group. He would be accompanying one of Althea's own kits on this mission. Shaking his head slightly at the risk these younger bucks and does were taking, Pepper moved to follow Althea into the night.

Coal scratched out of the hole Althea had built him in the wilds. He'd widened and deepened it to make it safer but he still hasn't left it. You're sentimental. He chided himself.

None the less he headed towards the farm. The faithful day Althea had told him about had come. It had taken him several days to decide to help but he'd finally decided some revenge was in order...and he wanted to help Althea. There was definitely some hero worship going on with that doe.

Quietly he padded towards the meeting place until he spotted Althea hunkered down and waiting. He walked up next to her and rubbed on her side affectionately. "Didn't figure I could let you do this alone."

Talltale rolled himself from his burrow and stretched his long legs. Giving an ear a quick groom, the young buck headed outside. Looking around, he noticed other members of the warren gathering around the owsla. there were a mix of bucks and does, owsla and runners. Shaking out his dun colored fur, Talltale headed over. He had recruited himself for the raid for food. With so many does becoming mothers, with all the new kittens, they would eat through everything before the snow officially came to the Down.

"Let the fun begin." Talltale grinned to himself as he merged with the rest of the rabbits. His ears pitched forwards some to listen to the leaders of the teams.

It wasn't too long before everyone was headed off. Picking his own speed, Talltale followed everyone else towards the farm and where everything was going to happen.

Sandbur stretched her legs out at the top of the down. She was not one for listening to speechs, but at the mention of snares she grit her teeth and covered her ears, pretending to groom them. Words from when she was much younger, much happier, flooded her brain. He was helping the other rabbit get out of the snare. He was shot on the way back. He died a noble death.'

Sandbur uncovered her head. For too long she had let the death of her mate, Taxus, haunt her dreams. Every night the same nightmare and every morning, the same thought. Why had no-one helped her mate? Was he truly the only one who thought of another? It did not swell her bosom with pride. It made her very very angry and her heart clenched.

And that was why she was going on this raid today. She had to come to terms with it. See what it was really like to be in the face of danger. See if she could do what her mate did and let him pass on in peace.

She grumbled, shoving past Braeburn who had tried to see her off and hopping after Crocus.

Dogsbane was eager for today. He'd show Ginkgo, the buck who made his heart flutter, that he was a good runner. He pranced from foot to foot, raising up on his hind legs to try and see the other buck, but he didn't stick out as such. Dogsbane was nervous, but excited. He'd been assigned as the runner for his team and he was eager to play his part. If it were up to him, none would die today. He'd come back a hero...bucks would be hanging off of him to get his attention! But he'd only have eyes for Ginkgo, who might finally respect him and stop calling him kitten.

Having warmed up, he bounded over to Althea and fell in beside her, careful not to get too far ahead of her. "Terribly sorry more owlsa aren't joining us." He looked towards the tip of the down where Dragon sat, eyes narrowed. Dogs knew not all the owsla could come, but he still wished more had, for Althea's sake. "But I'm here and i'm ready." He glanced at her. "We're going to be fine. I'll do my best, if you do your's." He liked Althea, quite a bit. For a female, she wasn't half bad. His own confidence was a mask for how terrified he really was.

Brown ears twitched as Aythi listened to the words of Althea. It was her first raid and her heart pounded inside her chest but she was filled to the brim with determination to do her best for her group as well as her warren. She was paired with Althea's daughter Raven, among others, whom had had a tussle in the last raid and wore the scares to prove it. She prayed hard to Frith that wouldn't happen again. It seemed she also had Pepper on her group and that lifted her spirits a little, though as tired as he looked she felt he was a wise and experienced rabbit to look up too. Giving him a brief nod of respect, she picked up her paws and followed suit after the others, silently hoping to slide in next to one of her team mates for a bit of pre-raid chatter to calm nerves... or at the very least, calm her own nerves. "Frith guide us, let us all be full of tricks today!" she said aloud for any and all to hear. User Image

+Swan-Song+

Swan-song sat huddled and watched as Rabbits appeared all around. So many had showed up, but then this was important. The warren needed this food. His pale bright eyes glanced nervously and he nearly struck the ground in fright at the sight of a hlessi. What was a wild rabbit doing here? Unnerved he skittered closer to more of the warren rabbits. This might have been a bad idea, already he wanted to dart to safety in his burrow. As Althea spoke and told them of what to do; he could only feel his ears go cold. With the final warning of snares he jumped forward and started following along. He kept skirting his eyes over the ground, and soon his frightened panicked mind gave up being scared and he started making a game of following in the large rabbits footsteps. Certainly if they walked there, he could.

He heard a doe ask Frith for help; and he had to agree, they would need it. He was uncertain which group of this raid he was in. He had not been listening very well; he had been too scared that he had actually stepped forward to volunteer. Had he not been so scared, he likely would have gone Tharn and that be the end of it. Yet, he had found some bravery, or maybe some foolishness; and stepped forward. Now he wished he knew more sayings to ask Frith for guidance.

Linnet’s paws met the ground calmly as she made her way from the warren to where the raid party would leave from. The way she held herself showed someone who was at peace, but inside she could feel her heart pounding. When she had heard about the raid she knew immediately why they needed to do it - stores were low and even the grass outside was dead and crunchy under her feet, nothing much a rabbit could eat - and the doe volunteered in an instant. Raiding the farm would be dangerous and she would be risking her life, but if she had sat in the warren this night and anyone died in the coming months because of a food shortage then she would have blamed herself.

The doe approached the circle of rabbits that were now forming around the large Owsla member, Althea. Linnet sat back on her haunches in the middle of the crowd; eyes focused on the doe that would be leading them to the farm. She heard the others chatter around her before Althea began talking, she was so locked into her own mind that she couldn't even really make out what they were saying.

Then Althea thumped the ground with her foot and began speaking, Linnet shook her head a bit as the sounds around her fell into silence. She listened carefully to what the strong doe was saying and took it to heart, she needed to remember everything, and she needed to stay calm.

When Althea was done the group started moving forward towards what could be the saving grace of the warren or a resting place for a doomed individual.

Darkbrier had silflayed only lightly in the twilight hours that morning, knowing it would be best not to bog herself down before resting for what time she could before it was time to gather. Nor to waste the food. Ebony had woken her when she saw Althea settle atop the Down to wait for the volunteers, and then Darkbrier had gone to join them.

She settled in the shadows at the roots of the tree to watch and listen, if not the sky from here then the edges of the Down. Predators did not always come from the air, after all, and she needed to be on high alert for the rest of the evening. It was a blessing to the dark doe that night had been the chosen time for this raid; she and the dim hours had long been friends because of her fur.

Althea rose to leave, and Darkbrier was silently saddened that no one she knew was joining them. Ebony and Grackle had offered, of course; but she didn't want to have to worry after them. Ebony was the more likely of the two to have success with her in this, and had been harder to convince. In the end it was Darkbrier's request that she look after those staying during this strenuous time that convinced her. All it had taken to make Grackle stay was mentioning that little doe he has such a crush on... he'd instantly flipped his decision to stay and help her mind the kittens and marlis as best he could. They would need comfort, knowing what dangers the warren was sending it's own off to... partly because of them.

A large and silent shadow, Darkbrier rose to follow the others, drifting close to the Owsla she believed to be called "Crocus". Perhaps a doe of Darkbrier's size would be useful to the Owsla? Even if she had nothing in size on Althea or Raven, she was still far more formidable than most of the others who had joined them here this eve.

Kalei burrowed within the soft grass, laying contemplatively. The moon was rising: the raid would begin soon.

With a sigh, she eyed the warren. It appeared bleak, grassless as it was, but she knew of the life beneath, of her friends and kin resting warm but hungry within the burrows. Many of their lives would rest on the success -- and failure -- of the coming raid, and some more immediate than most. And, quietly, under the soft and lonely presence of Inle, she admitted she was afraid to die. Many a danger lurked within the farm, and she knew not everyone would come out unharmed.

She had a duty, however, to do her best for the warren she loved, and she knew she would not shirk from it. When she thought it time, and she saw others emerging to start off towards the meeting place, she did the same.
