Things had gone quiet as he lay in his basket. He didn't mind the quiet, nor did he mind the voices all that much. Even if they had some some things that others would find disturbing. The discussion had revolved around him mostly, he hadn't caught all of it but there was the familiar voice talking about something and a new voice which had eventually agreed. Soon the familiar voice disappeared completely and the new voice, along with another new one, became his new constants. That and the cramped confines of this basket. One thing he had somewhat figured out, was that there was a snack out there and that something called spiders were going to eat the snack. It never occurred to him that he was the snack, all thanks to his father, but the longer he laid here the more he wanted out and to have the snack for himself. First thing first, he had to get out of this small space, it was too dark, too cramped and he was fairly certain something had bite him earlier.

With a trash, a kick and plenty of wiggling the colt finally broke free from the confines of his basket. Laying there among the broken wicker basket he got his first good look at the area he would call home. It was dark, but not as dark as the inside of his basket was, there were rocks everywhere, pools of who knows what around on the ground, scraggly trees poked out here and there. One thing was for certain...he liked it! Getting to his hooves the colt gave his body a shake and that was when he noticed his tail. He spun around a few times trying to bite it while it in turn tried to bite him. After a few moments of that with no success on either end he gave up. Now where was that snack? Rock, rock, more rock. Then his eyes settled upon his broken basket. He didn't like that thing one bit and since there seemed to be no other food around the colt ran over to it, laying down he cradled it between his front legs and began chewing quite enthusiastically on the wicker letting out the occasional grunt and growl as he did so.

Pirata had not expected the basket to open so early, indeed by the words of the baskets father it should not have done so. Then again - as had been proven time and time over - it was often unwise to take the word of strangers. Perhaps she shouldn't be so very surprised to see the little beast out and about then..but she was.

Rounding the bend to the sound of chewing she was dismayed to find the little pest eating it's own basket. Lovely...she had intended to just heave the vermin out of its basket and feed it to her spiders in a couple of days but that seemed out now. She could of course still feed it to her spiders..it would just be a touch harder to take care of until her spiders had the urge to hunt again. Scowling slightly she stamped a hoof to get the little brats attention, eyes playing over its bright markings and colors. At least they seemed to take after the father and the creature would not be a complete eyesore while it was here. there was something pleasing about the skeleton like markings. "Stop that at once, that is not appropriate food." She demanded of the foal before turning to a guard. "Fetch a wet nurse from the slaves." She demanded, turning back to the foal as her spider skittered off of her and ventured closer to take a look of their own.

At first he let out a growl, not wanting to share his snack with the intruder. But the way she spoke got his attention and after a final few bites on the wicker he spit the piece out and turned to face her. His tail had other ideas as it grabbed the wicker up in it's own skulls mouth, maybe it just wanted a snack too. His purple eyes looked her over, head tipping to the side slightly. He probably should have been scared but he wasn't, mainly because he recognized her as the owner of the voice he had become accustomed to in the last few days. More importantly he heard the word food, and that what he had been eating wasn't right. He was about to try and say something to her when he saw something coming his way along the ground, something that had crawled off of her back.

He took a step back and then he moved forward to inspect them as well. He lowered his head to sniff at them. Were these the food? Looking at them, to the mare and back again he didn't think they were. But even so he let out a challenging albeit playful growl at the spiders. His eyes lifted up to look at the mare, he tipped his head to the side and looked at her with the expression as though he was waiting to be told what to do with a hint of I want to come over and bite you just because I can. Though with the approaching spiders his attention returned to them, though his ears remained perked forward waiting and listening for when the mare spoke again. Because as far as he was concerned she had a voice that was worth listening to.

The spider's lifted their front legs in a threat display to the colt as he drew close baring their fangs and hissing at the little creature before they scurried back to Pirata, drumming their agitation along her back with their many legs. "Hush, hush now my dears." Pirata soothed the spiders though her gaze remained fixed on the little colt. If she had thought his markings intriguing then his tail was simply divine!

All at once Pirata wasn't sure about feeding the little brat to her pets, there were plenty of prey to be had but very few Soquili with such attributes and while he was one of those midget types those could be useful in certain situations as well..and her own foal would certainly need something to train with. Snorting slightly at the foal - he seemed a bit on the dull side but that hardly mattered as long as he would listen. "I expect you will need a name if I'm going to keep you around." She finally stated, eyes narrowed at the beast in thought.

Cassava wasn't entirely sure what to think of the spiders. They had come up, waves their many legs at him, made interesting noises and then returned to the large mare. Ears perked forward as he listened to her to talk them. Definitely not food then. So if they weren't food and the basket wasn't food then what was food. He considered for a moment turning around and taking another turn at the basket but something about the mare had his attention. He wanted to listen to her, wanted to...well he kind of wanted to be like those spiders that were on her - minus the crawling up on her back of course. He took a few steps closed to her, so that he could simply be closer but also so that he could get another look at those spiders and her as well. His tail wagged back and forth letting out a soft sound that was a mix of a growl and a whine.

Head tipped to the side when she spoke again. "Name?" He finally said, finding his voice though it wasn't very strong or loud. Ears turned back listening to his tail. Slowly his attention turned to the skull head at the end. Reaching his head back he tried to grab the piece of wicker from it but the tail flicked away, apparently having a mind of it's own, causing the colt to run in a few tight circles. Seeing that his efforts were futile he came to a stop and returning his attention to the mare as his tail let out a triumphant growl of having won. What was this name that she would give him?

"Yes, a name." She responded "We must call you something." She told the colt, regarding him with a slightly quirked brow as he chased his tail. It was becoming apparent that the colt probably wasn't the brightest of creatures..but that wasn't necessarily a bad thing, stupid beasts were far easier to manipulate. In any case it wasn't like she would have been able to use him as a soldier anyways, perhaps she could use him to breed cute little pet companions for her minions...what other use was there for Usdia's and their ilk?
He was unique and that, for the moment, was enough to capture her interest.

While the foal stared at her Pirata was pondering names in her mind, running over things that might fit. At first she considered things related to his markings but Cranium,Skull, Bones and the like..while apt was not quite what she was looking for. It wasn't until she reverted to her typical preference - plants - that she found what she was looking for. "Cassava..Cassava Noctis." She stated with a firm nod of her head. Her spiders seemed to agreed wit the name as they hissed and drummed their legs in response to it.

He stood there staring and waiting, like his whole life depending on her picking his name. And really it did. Had he not popped out of his basket early then he would be spider lunch so his fate rested entirely on this mares shoulders. As long as he was of use to her, even if he didn't know it now, he would be safe. He had taken another step forward while she was thinking, those spiders had his attention while her thoughts were focused on naming him. Maybe...if he acted more like them...well he wasn't entirely sure where that thought was going, he just knew the mare liked those things on her back and he wanted to be in that same situation. His attention snapped back to the mare when she spoke once more. Cassava...that was to be his name...Cassava Noctis. Now he was no expert on names or the importance of them but he was certain that Cassava Noctis was a really good name.

His attention flicked to the spiders for a moment, their hissing and leg drumming seemed to be in response to this name of his. "Cassava Noctis." He said slowly not wanting to get it wrong then proceeded to attempt to hiss, just like the spiders did, and then stomped his front hooves several times on the ground. His tail let out a growl as well. When he stopped stamping his hooves he looked up at the mare once more. "What...um...what you name?" Now that he had a name he thought he would need to know her name as well. She had to have a name and he wanted to know it, wanted to know the name of the one who controlled his fate, the one whom he wanted to please beyond anything else in the world. Well...that and he wanted food, but if he knew her name he could ask for food afterwards! Yes. Name, then food. It was a simple yet brilliant idea.

Well at least he did not seem to be completely impaired, slow perhaps but he was quickly grasping onto the concept of conversation and that was important. It would be bothersome to communicate with the beast if he couldn't converse in a sane manner. At least if she wanted more from him then simple companionship - and she already had her spiders she did not need companionship, useful pets would be much preferred.

"Pirata." She answered him "Pirata Noctis" The way he mimicked her spiders was entertaining to say the least and it had certainly gained her pets attention as they crept down to wave their legs at the foal, one even daring to go so far as to try and tap him on the muzzle. Before she could consider anything else about the foal however the guard returned with the mare she had demanded, the mares own foal trailed along uncertainly, it would be difficult for her to nurse both but she would have to deal with it...if she wanted to keep her foal in any case. Pirata considered the mutant usdia of more importance then a mere slave foal. "There is food for you, follow the other foals lead...and you mare, see that this one gets what he needs to grow." She demanded of the slave mare, a heavy warning in her voice to make sure the other mare understood.

"Pirata Noctis." He responded stated her name, carefully and slowly so to not get it wrong. Then it struck him, there was a similarity in their names. Both of them as Noctis in their names. He wondered about the significance of it, but the spiders moving in to get another look at him were enough of a distraction for him to forget about it for the time being. Seeing the spiders approach Cassava moved into a playful bow, much like a dog would when excited about something. He liked these little creatures! He liked them a lot! Noticing one almost touching his nose with it's leg Cassava rising one of his own hooves and reached out towards the spider. Hearing Pirata's voice again he froze, hoof in mid air and slowly turned his head towards the new arrivals. Food! Quickly forgetting about the spiders Cassava moved towards the mare and foal. He wasn't sure which one was food but when Pirata said to follow the other foals lead he set his eyes on the smaller of the two.

He watched as waited as the other foal seemed quite hesitant to do anything at first. But with a bit of encouragement from the mare the foal began to nurse. Cassava moved closer and watched with his head tipped to the side for a few moments. Suddenly he figured it out, what the foal was doing and moved int to take his turn. Only instead of sharing the mare Cassava, though about half the size of the other foal, muscled the foal out of the way - or perhaps the other foal was smart enough to get out of his way - and then began to greedily feed. For such a small foal he did have a large appetite and even when he was full he didn't leave the mare right away. Instead of stood under her, staring at the other foal, his tail letting out the odd growl here and there. Finally he stomped his hoof and snorted at the foal. "Mine." Yes, this food was his, all his. The other foal would need to figure something else out. The downside to eating so much, is that he would need to sleep it off, but he wasn't willing to leave his food just yet. Casting a glance back at Pirata the colt gave her a satisfied look.

Pirata watched for a few moments as the small foal muscled his way ahead of the mares natural foal..well perhaps there was more to the little beast then she had originally thought. That or he just liked his food - either way he seemed to have some spirit to him and Pirata rather liked that. As long as he listened. Of course feeding him to her spiders was always an option if he grew up to be troublesome.

In any case..now that she had dealt with feeding him she supposed that she would need to find a place to keep him, when he got older perhaps he could have Agave's old ledge..the thought of putting a pet in her sons old place was an amusing one..Agave had always been more like a pet then a son anyways. But for now she would need to keep the little beast someplace closer..so that she could keep an eye on him. Perhaps the spider nursery? There were no eggs in there at the moment and it was plenty big enough for such a tiny foal..and close to her own as well. Yes she thought that would do fine. "Alright then..since we've taken care of that problem come along Cassava and I'll show you where you will live. You too." She snapped at the nursing mare, giving her an ugly look less she decide to slow them down as she headed towards the nearest path up higher into the mountain.

Cassava was not willing to give up his spot under the mare but a yawn did catch him by surprise. With a belly bursting from how much he had eaten sleep would consume him soon. At the moment he stayed where he was, staring down the other foal in a challenging manner. His concentration made him almost forget about Pirata standing a short distance away, that was until she spoke then his attention instantly returned to her. His ears perked forward when she said his name, it made him happy to know she would take care of him. He turned for a moment to regard to other foal, letting out a sound similar to a growl before turning and moving towards Pirata.

He eager trotted after Pirata but then he caught sight of his fairly destroyed basket out of the corner of his eyes. That thing he still didn't like, and while Pirata had told him it wasn't food he wasn't exactly looking to eat it, more so he wanted to rip it to shreds when he got to his spot. It took only a moment of hesitation for the colt raced over to the basket scopping it up in his mouth before hurrying after Pirata once more. He glanced over his shoulder to see that the mare was indeed following, good he liked that food and would be sad if it didn't come with him. Of course he didn't have to worry about that and so he trailed behind Pirata following her along the path. Behind him his tail growled softly at the mare, foal and guard that followed.

Pirata paused as the foal rushed off suddenly to fetch his basket - a touch strange but as he returned promptly and wasn't trying to eat it anymore she supposed it would be fine for him to keep it. If anything it might just keep him occupied and out of her hair once they got to his new home. The path up the mountain was steep and winding but Pirata did not slow...Cassava would keep up or he wouldn't and if he did not...well then he did not belong here on the mountain with her now did he?

Thankfully for the little foal - given Pirata's uncaring nature about his strenght - the trip wasn't all that long really and after only a few moments they arrived at the spider nursery. Old bones littered the ground but Pirata ignored them and off to one side lay a small cave where the spider had created thier last nest. It was empty now..with only the broken remnants of a web to remind one of what it had once been. "Here Cassava..a fitting lair for you I think, don't you agree my pets?" She stated to the colt and asked of her spider's, turning her head to let them drum theirs legs on her muzzle for a short time.

Ascending the mountain behind Pirata was no easy task. He was full of food, tired because of that and his legs weren't entirely one hundred percent stable yet. But he would not and could not fall behind. It took every ounce of his strength to not only make it up the mountain but to keep hold of his basket while he did so. He grunted and huffed, half running, half jumping up the trail to keep up with Pirata as best as he could. When they finally made it to where he would live Cassava was breathing hard, in fact he was practically panting and that almost made him lose hold of his basket. His eyes swept over the area, it didn't look much different from where they had been earlier so he didn't object to it one bit. Though exhaustion tugged at his body and mind Cassava wanted to see his new place.

He saw the spiders approval of this area and so he was instantly nodding his head. His eyes fell upon something dull near the cave and he tipped his head to the side. Dropping his basket the colt trotted over to the bone, lowering his head he sniffed it and then delightedly picked it up in his teeth. Then he saw another, and another! For a few moments he zigged and zagged across the area, dropping one bone only to pick up the next, he wanted them all! It was only when he found a large bone, a femur from a deer, that he finally met his match. The bone was far too heavy and large from him to pick it up. He growled at it before turning his attention back to Pirata. "Like this place." He told her with a nod and then drummed his front hooves on the ground the way the spiders drummed their legs upon her back. But there was something greater on his mind than anythign else at this moment. Slwoing making his way into the cave, stopping momentarily to sniff the spider web and much of the floor, Cassava circled three times before laying down on the floor. Letting out a yawn he curled up into a tight ball a closed his eyes. Sleep took the colt quickly as the long walk and full belly finally caught up with him.
