-COME OUT-

Kess Texts were always in capslock and always lacked punctuation, but it was 7:29 and the blonde was on her burnt orange Judge, the motor still growling while she waited beneath Quinn's apartment. A black helmet shielded her face, the leather jacket hiding a wool sweater, shirt and tie. A booted foot scuffed at the ground.

When the brunette appeared, she received a series of engine revs hello, before a gloved hand offered her a second helmet. Safety first, and while Kess, and Howlite, took risks, they weren't stupid ones. Why ruin a date by cracking a girl's head on the pavement when some a*****e driver didn't see you and sideswiped you with their SUV?

The moment Quinn swung a leg over and got seated, they were off, tearing through the already dark, wet streets of Destiny City to Downtown. When they stopped, it was at one of Kess' favorite upscale places to grab a drink and a bite to eat on her way to something better. 427 Kitchen & Cocktails was full of low-key lighting, with downstairs tables, upstairs lounge and full bar, and an outside deck on the second floor, filled with people at arms reach. The patrons were a mix of those on dates, friends, strangers mingling and colleagues. The pair found themselves quickly seated upstairs on a small couch with a nearby fireplace and table with a drink menu, Kess' jacket folded over the back of the sofa.

"Glad you could make it," the blonde offered Quinn a quick grin as their server filled water glasses. "I wish you'd kept on the work uniform, though." The once-over she gave the brunette with her eyes said otherwise.

Quinn had gotten used to the ridiculous all caps text messages, but it still made her laugh when she read it as if Kess was yelling at her to get her a** outside right now. She threw her jacket over the extra-long sweater she wore over tights with her knee-high boots. Without missing a beat, she went outside, snatched the helmet from Kess with a grin at the revved engine, and hopped on the back of the bike.

Well wasn't this place ******** fancy. "This place is nice."

Quinn looked around as she sat down, shrugging her jacket off and letting it flop onto the sofa. "And as if I'd say no to you," she laughed. An eyebrow raised and a grin flashed back at Kess. "Ugh, my bad. That uniform is super flattering and classy, I don't know what I was thinking." She let out an overly-exaggerated sigh.

She put her elbows on the table and leaned in only slightly, her eyes looking Kess up and down pretty obviously- Quinn was never one for subtlety.

"It's alright, yeah." it was the sort of fancy that was still, somehow, casual. Perhaps it was the varied crowd, or the cheeky cocktail descriptions on the menu. A menu that the blonde glanced over before slipping it across the table to Quinn.

Her laugh, when it came, was more breath than sound "I look good, right?" Leaning back into the cushions, Kess crossed her arms behind her head to await the return of their server. "Where've you been?" Off-duty, of course. Howlite and Leto saw each other fairly often. As often as two senior officers of differing organizations could, anyway. They made a point of it.

However, the two also enjoyed a rather casual friendship in their civilian lives, one that had been so casual as of late that it'd been relatively non-existant. It wasn't something the blonde worried over. Dark eyes flicked from Quinn to the waitress when she arrived, and Kess flashed a dimple.

"Just an Old Fashioned for me, thanks."

Quinn laughed and nodded at Kess, "I figured a 'damnnnnnn guuuuurl' may have been a little inappropriate... So yeah, let's stick with you look good."

Things with Kess came easily for Quinn- laughing, smiling. It was never awkward or uncomfortable and she was damn thankful for that considering how often the two had to see each other in their powered forms. When Kess asked where she'd been, it took Quinn a moment to process the question considering she could've sworn she just saw Howlite - she wasn't always the sharpest tool in the shed. She wrinkled her nose at the question.

Avoiding it at first, she turned her attention to the waitress and ordered a beer. Quinn was one for simplicity.

"I've been uh... Kinda seeing someone, I guess? It's a little weird. Axel." She shrugged. "And y'know, new job. Apparently paying rent is something I hafta do."

"Gross," The blonde's freckled nose wrinkled, though whether that was a commentary on paying rent, or seeing someone, was left unexplained.

Her brow furrowed though, as if she was remembering something - or struggling to - and she shifted, forearms resting on her thighs. "Axel, huh?" Weird name. Not too common.

"Oh," A grin tugged at the corners of her wide mouth, and Kess shook her head. "That's cool, I guess." Wasn't that the name of the dude Haley had barfed on the other night? Reaching into her pocket to remove her phone, she slid a thumb across the screen to eyeball a text from her buddy. Yup.

Their drinks arrived and she took a big swallow, hoping to drown her amusement with liquor. Not her place.

"And now you're seein' me," she ventured, brow raised. Reckon things weren't going quite the way Quinn had planned, with this fellow. But, that was sort of par for the course for her friend.

Quinn watched as Kess' facial features changed from disgust, to confusion, to sudden enlightenment. An eyebrow raised as she watched her quickly go through her phone, wondering what on earth was going through her mind.

Why couldn't her super power be reading minds? She'd have to ask Kess about that later.

Following suit, Quinn took a sip from her tall pint of delicious cold beer.

"And now I'm seeing you," she recited back to the girl across from her, a grin tugging at the corner of her lips as she took a second gulp.

Quinn didn't do dating. It was always awkward and uncomfortable- but this wasn't. Maybe 'this' meant women. Maybe it was just dating men that was uncomfortable. Huh. Something for her to think about... Some other time.

For now, she leaned forward slightly. "Y'know, I was pretty dumbstruck when you asked me out," she said with a nervous laugh. "We've known each other a pretty long time... You're just full of surprises."

"Am I?" Thick brows rose as the blonde moved again, instinctively mirroring Quinn's movements. "I reckon I got tired of dancing around it." They could die any day, really, so why wait for things? It wasn't as if Kess was worried that dating would 'ruin' their friendship, or any of the other excuses people made to themselves, and Howlite trusted Leto. Knew her. Maybe it was time Kess knew Quinn better, as well.

"Don't be nervous," Her dimples grew deeper as she reached out, freckled fingers touching Quinn's knee. "It's just us."

They'd spent hours together, alone. This was just something a little different, a new game, but the players remained the same. So did the rules.

The idea of dating ruining their friendship truly didn't even cross Quinn's mind. It was the newness of it all that made her nervous, even if she was pretty much open to anything ever. Wasn't that part of being a magical girl of badassery? Doing new and risky things or some s**t?

It's just us.

"You'r right," she laughed. "It's just us."

Challenge accepted.

Quinn had no problem getting to know Howlite better out of uniform. A grin split on Quinn's face when Kess's fingers brushed her knee, causing her stomach to tighten into a knot.

"So besides getting me all drunk and flustered, what else did you have in mind for this date?" Axel who?

"Anything you want," Kess raised her brows behind her drink, pausing just long enough for the statement to be vaguely sexual, before she continued. "We can get a bite to eat, then I'm game for anything. We can hit the town if you want, dancing, lasertag, punching things," They really liked punching things together, "Or even go to my place and play games."

Whatever was clever. The blonde was pretty damn flexible. A few drinks in, and Quinn would probably be flexible, too. Maybe it was the environment.

"Want to get out of here? Grab a burger?" Something quick, casual, that they could shove in their faces while they walked around and got used to the idea of physical contact.

Kess made eye contact with the server, and he hurried over.
