It was her first time one duty down at the lighthouse. She’d been told to be ready for maybe a passing storm or just you know, people coming through dead or dying. She asked why they had death doing that duty then, and had been told ‘shut up do you think anyone cares everyone gets portal duty deal with it’. Deal with it was like the motto of death. Well, the motto of Deus ex really. Very cold and pretty final when it came to Solia badgering for answers. The other motto was ‘wait until you are a real hunter’. That one bothered her more than it should. She felt a bit like Pinocchio. Wanting to say how she was a real hunter. But no, she was just a little trainee. The wooden puppet still. Kicking up her feet a bit the petite girl made her way to the portal at the lighthouse, slightly dejected, but, hopeful as ever. When she made it to said portal, the one hunter she was set to replace simply picked her up, set her where they had been standing, and left. She was very prepared.

Jude had no real idea why he had to go keep an eye on the lighthouse at the moment along with a newer trainee, but he didn't complain. He didn't question it either. He simply put on his uniform and soon wandered his way over toward the lighthouse a bit of a yawn. Lighthouse duty was usually a pretty low key event without anything to worry about.
As he arrived he blinked a little over at Solia and gave her a brief quiet nod. Okay. Social interaction.
....He could do this.
"Uhh..Hi?" Jude announced tenatively.

So it was mostly stand around and... What? Just wait? Solia was not one to be idle. She liked activity, she liked focus. She liked sound. And while the sound of waves not too far off were nice, it wasn't a human sound. A sound she could interact with. Thankfully, she wasn't alone on duty. There was another human with her. One that was even so kind as to initiate the talking for her. Wonderful. "Hello!" She nodded her head at him, accented with a smile. Looking at his coat he was a fellow death, earning Jude a look of mild excitement. Solia probably was one of the few people who got excited about death. Only thing was hers probably didn't involve the actual dead. "I'm Solia! One of the new death trainees!" She might have been staring, as if expecting something. Sadly Solia wasn't even sure what she was expecting.

"U..Um. Nice to meet you. I'm Jude, intermediate rank Death Trainee," he muttered back at her. His brow was furrowing a bit at the expectant way she was staring at him. At guess he simply offered her a hand to shake. "I'm uhh..."
He's what?
"Welcome to the fold, I guess?" It wasn't one of his warmer welcomes, but the good intention was there at least.

At the offered hand, Solia happily reached out and shook it. Maybe held on a bit too long and shook a bit too vigorously, but she was just excited. Jude. Like the song. Jude Jude Jude. She would have to remember it. Israfel just sighed and committed it to his memory instead. Still he made his rank sound far more official than her own. Color Solia impressed. Then again, not the most difficult if things to do. "It's nice to meet you too Jude! And thank you! It's rather exciting here, even if my first real mission was ah... The various booths followd by that fog... Stuff." She wasn't sure how to tactfully address that whole event. "All in all it's been rather enlightening! This is my first time on portal duty however." She looked at said portal. "I told a friend, they need invent the long fall boots next."

If he felt that she held on too long he didn't say anything and he didn't say anything about the vigor of her handshake. It was just something he just accepted as part of Solia's ... interesting personality quirks and moved on.
"Mmm, I am glad you made it through to see another day," he said quietly, Jude meant it sincerely though it might have sounded insincere thanks to his quiet flat tone. There was a long awkward pause at the mention of long fall boots.
...And a stare that showed that he didn't quite understand what she meant.
"I..I see," he muttered softly.

She laughed a bit, putting on her best game face. Game face being for her, a grin. Big surprise there. “Well that’s what we’re supposed to do in death right? Live longer and outwit everyone? At least that is a bit of the impression I’ve gotten from it.” His tone didn’t bother her, not did his stare about long fall boots. “It would be cool if we could make stuff from science fiction, erm,” she looked back to the glowing portal she tilted her head, “But it does make you wonder if like, they secret have the cure to cancer or something but aren’t sharing. Granted I don’t think many of us will have to worry about it, but if we could destroy the fear of something so widely afflicting humans… what would it mean for Halloween? Or us?” A pause. “…do halloweeners come from cancer? Is there a cancer monster?” She was utterly serious.
