~ A Re-Arranged Arrangement ~
NOTE: This is a RFR (Roleplay for Rent) COPYRIGHT: ICE GOD ERIK 11/21/12 I will NOT be playing in this RP, but I will monitor it for plot sake. PM me your characters so I may post them here and you may play amongst yourselves.
In the small village of Kerijawa were two middle class families who had just agreed to betroth their two children: a boy from one family, and a girl from the other. The arrangement was agreed upon with certain benefits on each end. First, the family whose son is in the bargain, gains much needed extra farmland and cattle as compensation. The other family gets the sole gratification that they will not be disgraced by having an unwed daughter. The wedding took place immediately that night. The two young adults, who had never met prior, were married before the sun set.
Therein lay a ton of complications. The groom was secretly seeing another woman prior to the wedding, and didn't stop after the marriage, though still secretly. His wife knew about it, but for the sake of her family, couldn't interfere. Divorce was unheard of, and she just became pregnant. If she stepped out of line, well, she'd rather not think about the punishing, humiliating details. So she remained subdued. The wife had to keep her face hidden, as per the culture, when outdoors away from the home and her husband. She would be able to venture to the market and to the seamstresses, and return home immediately, no questions asked.
One of the marketers, a young male farmhand, always had a liking for the man's wife. He had wished upon wish that he had been the one to marry her, for he had fallen so madly in love with her…if only from afar. Every time the woman came into town, he always made her a bargain that was unfair on his end. She never spoke, and all he saw of her was her eyes, but they were beautiful eyes. The most beautiful he had ever seen. It was all he could do not to reach out and hold her chin, staring into them forever.

It seemed logical to Charles, he was a bargaining chip as was this unknown girl, such was the path in their lives; but, then, something unexpected occurred. For the first time in his life, he felt a stirring of erratic emotion. A young lady had caught his eye and before the arrangement had even been completed, he slipped away with this enigmatic girl who had somehow penetrated all of his cold hard logic with her allure. His drive to succeed and his beloved family depend on his marriage to this girl he had no interest in force him to agree to this arrangement while his own desires surface in the need to chase this wild thing that has captivated him so.

Beyond that, she's flirtatious and always seems to have a knowing smirk upon her face. She has a smart head on her shoulders and tends to act wiser then her years allow.
Biography: Luna is a young woman who moved into the village only months ago claiming to be in need of work. Having lost her parents nearly two years ago, she's now out trying to fend for herself and discover what she wants to do with her life. Getting much more of her history then that out of her is a hard task and requires a bottle or two of some of the strongest liquor in town. Despite being smart and observant for her age, she has gotten into some trouble in the past and claims to want to put all that stuff behind her and turn over a new leaf. If that is true or not is yet to be seen. It isn't so easy to break out of old habits after all.

Marcus rose early while the temperature was still cool. He gathered his vegetable and herb cart, drawn by one of the two horses he owned. He left his little brother at home to tend to the weeding of the gardens. Marcus had received a large order and it had to be to the appointed place that morning.
Marcus smiled and waved to his neighbors that were up as well as he started down the road to the main part of town. He and his brother lived a little ways from town so they could have a little more land to farm on. Marcus clicked his tongue to get his horse, Bluebell, to pick up the pace a little.
Marcus arrived to the cooks home about fifteen minutes later. "Cook, I have your order here." Marcus called thru the open side door. He didn't want to walk in uninvited. He received an answer to start bringing the items into the kitchen. Marcus was more than happy to bring the items inside. It took him a few moments to get it all in the kitchen.
A jolly plump old woman came in with a smile. She thanked Marcus for bringing the stuff so promptly. When asked what the large order was for, the reply was that there was a wedding that day. She looked over the crops and smiled at their quality. She paid Marcus and then shooed him out of the kitchen so she could get started. "Good day." Marcus said getting out of her hair. He chuckled. The food she was cooking smelt very good and she was known as the best cook in town.
Marcus got the reigns of Bluebell and headed back home. He hadn't had room for the large order for the wedding and the items he wanted to sell at the market. So he headed back home to refill the cart. He wiped the sweat from his forehead. He was just riding in his cart and he was sweating. It was surely going to be a very hot day indeed.
By early afternoon, Marcus had sold half of his crops at the market. He had been standing on his feet all day and was ready to sit and rest from the heat that was raining down on them all. His shirt was soaked with sweat, only his vest hiding some of the sweat stains. However, Marcus kept his smile that he was known for. But his crops were wilted with the suns heat so he started packing up to head home. "Here girl. You did good today." Marcus said to Bluebell as he held out some carrots for her. She gobbled them up, afterwhich Marcus hitched her up and headed home.

"Hold still! I need to make sure everything is perfect." my mother chastised. "How can everything be perfect? Especially when I don't love the man I'm marrying?" "Hold your tongue! If you wait any longer, what will the neighbors say? You'd be a spinster! Charles is an excellent man with an excellent family. You're lucky a man even wants you, so count your blessings!" there was no love in her voice; not even guilt that she was sending her only child to a stranger. Tears threatened to fall, but I swallowed them with a "Yes, ma'am," and stilled. When she was done fixing up my dress, she stripped it off and carefully hung it up. "You love that dress more than me..." I muttered, re-dressed myself in more comfortable clothes, and made to leave. "Where are you going? The wedding is in a couple of hours and I still need to do your hair!" "Relax, mother. I just need some fresh air." With a sigh, I tied the scarf around my head, leaving my eyes visible. My mother had told me that the day of marriage was when I should begin this. I didn't believe her; nonetheless I proceeded just to appease. Slowly I walked out of the room, turned the corner, and ran. I ran away from the threatening tears, from my dress, from reality. If only just for a moment more, I'd like to see my life through whatever freedoms I still had. I ran to my favorite meadow, a little ways from where the wedding was being held. My mother wouldn't come to get me, but scold me severely when I returned late. It was worth it, the wind seemed to caress my flushed skin as I panted tiredly. I settled on a rock and gazed at the farm in the distance, wishing I could fly away. That's when I allowed the tears to fall. For the last time. I wouldn't cry after this, so I had to let it all out. Head on my knees I sobbed, hoping no one chanced upon me to see such a shameful scene.

Charles stared aimlessly out the window, fully garbed in a modest but elegant suit. He watched people in the distance going about their day: farmers, market-folk, children. In a way, he envied them, such a simple existence. He had been born and bred to be a successful businessman by his proud parents. They had given everything to grant him the best chance at prosperity. Most of their funding had gone into his private schooling and their own assets had been steadily drained by a failing trading business due to poor production. He was grateful to them for the life he had been granted and he reflected upon his own past with warm thoughts. He had always been "the good and obedient son".
Even so, his expression as he gazed at the common folk remained rather dour. He did envy them, now more than ever. For the first time, he had felt a desire that came from another source, unique from his desire to please his family. He felt a calling towards this intriguing young lady he had met on the town only a short time ago. It was a calling that struck him so profoundly that it made him pursue her immediately. She fascinated him and it was far more than alcohol or other interference that had generated these thoughts. Luna was the name she gave and it clung to his consciousness like a never-ending storm. He had told her that he wanted to see her more and expressed uncharacteristically his feelings to this woman that fateful night. There was a powerful connection there, at least, as far as Charles believed.
"Smile, son! It's your wedding day!"
His father clasped him on the shoulder firmly, shaking him from his thoughts. Charles looked up at him with his standard indifferent smile that seemed to be plastered on his face at any other given public gathering. The "Gentleman's Grin", as his father had so charmingly coined it many years before, was his go-to expression when addressed with any situation nowadays.
"Dad, is there any way that we could get by without going through this... ordeal," he asked tentatively.
His father put his hand to his bushy beard and scratched it absent-mindedly as he considered how best to respond to the inquiry.
"Well, to be blunt: No. Your mother and I gave everything we had to spare to make certain you made it through business school, and the economy is just not enough for us to get by and ensure you can still stand on your own two feet. No, my boy, this is a necessity if you have any dreams of not living on the streets. Annabelle's dowry is quite sizable and it will give you both the opportunity to start a good life together."
Immediately Charles' thoughts shifted back to Luna and his longing to see where the path not traveled might lead. He tried his best to disperse the dangerous contemplations as quickly as possible and returned his gaze to his father.
"Don't worry, son. I know having an arranged marriage wasn't in the plans to begin with, but sometimes the best things in life are unexpected! I'm sure you and Annabelle will be happy together! Why, with her beauty and your knowledge, you two will be the envy of every town within a hundred miles! Now hurry up and get ready, we're headed to the staging grounds now. Your mother's already in the coach waiting."
Charles appreciated the confidence from his caring father, flashing him the "Gentleman's Grin" once more, hiding everything behind his stoic and indifferent expression. He glanced once more out the window before heading out the door, seeing the commoners and thinking of that ever-enticing Luna.
Oh, how he envied them.

Marcus moved his horse and cart aside for a coach that was approaching. The coach looked rich in its color, carvings, decor and by the clothes the driver was wearing. Marcus was in good standing with mostly everyone and he didn't need to get in a scuffled because of this, so he graciously moved Bluebell off to the side as he waited for the other to pass.
Marcus smiled up at the driver and even waved, but received no reply back. Marucs shrugged and headed onward. As he came out of town, he had to pass the meadow. Off in the distance he saw someone sitting there. By the clothes it was a woman, but there seemed to bo no one else with her. Marcus wondered if she was lost.
He pulled Bluebell off to the side and locked the wheels of the cart. He then got down and headed over to her. It was a little ways from the road and he though she might see him, but her head was down. When Marcus got closer, he called to her. "Ma'am? Are you alright? Are you hurt?" He didn't want to get too close and startle her, so he stood about four yards away. He smiled at her when she looked up. Marcus was too poor to have a hankerchief to hand to her, so he kept his hands on his thighs as he bent over to see if she was alright. He met her gaze and was stunned at how lovely her eyes were. Since her face was covered, that was all he could see of her......her lovely eyes. Marcus spoke softer. "Miss, are you alright?"
Obviously she wasn't since she was crying, but he just wanted to make sure she didn't require a docotor.

Oh how the early morning sun stung the eyes... Especially after a long night shift and the local tavern, and now this early morning temporary gig at the market. It really wasn't her thing to be out and about in the wee morning hours, however money was money, and the girl had to pay the bills and stay out of trouble somehow. With a large smile upon her full, red lips, she greeted the customers, and like any seasoned merchant, did her best to draw the attention of those passing by by way of showing off the wears she was working hard to sell. This morning she was selling what looked to be weaved baskets, locally made by an adorable elderly woman. Normally the old lady would be selling these herself however she had come down with a cold, and luckily by word of mouth Luna's name had reached the husband of this woman. Thus from a friend's friend's friend, Luna had managed to grab up a temporary job, all the while getting her name out there a little more as an eager young woman looking for part time jobs. Having been in this town for about two months now, she's still considered 'the outsider', however she hopes with a bit more time the people of this little town will grow to accept her. A subconscious grin curled upon her face at that thought. Knowing at least one has accepted her, or at the very least has expressed interest; Charles. In all honesty, he wasn't the usual type she went for. She having always been drawn towards the 'bad guy' or 'tough guy' type. Then again perhaps this vow to change her ways has allowed herself to widen her horizon and shed light upon newer--and hopefully better-- prospects. That fateful meeting that night not too long ago had shaken her dull life here. And with a mutual interest in one another, Luna could only imagine the future encounters with this young man. With a sudden increase in customers, her dreaming thoughts subsided as she attended to those inquiring of purchase. The morning drew on into afternoon and after a quick stop to the elderly couple's house and dropping off what money had been made that morning, she made her way back into the heart of town looking for another quick part time job before her evening shift at the tavern started later this evening. While her time in market this morning she had over heard whispers of a wedding being held today, though she had missed of whom was to be wed. She hoped this wedding might fuel her another quick job this afternoon.

So absorbed in my sobbing, I hadn't heard the man's voice until he was peering to see my face. I looked up, fire fitting my cheeks in embarrassment. Oh, if this were to reach mother... "I-I'm sorry t-to trouble you." Quickly I tried to stem the flow of tears, but my embarrassment only fueled them. "Oh, how shameful! Please don't mind me, I'll just be on my way." However long I'd been sitting on that rock was too long, for my legs had fallen asleep. As soon as I placed my feet on the ground, the world began to tip in blurred slowness.

Charles and his family stood near the entrance to the wedding stage, greeting the guests one by one. The Harringtons, despite their recent economic troubles, were still a high-class family and needed to keep up appearances.
Story of my life...
Charles thought to himself as he absent mindedly glanced at his golden pocket watch. The watch, an heirloom given to him by his father on his graduation day, ticked steadily in his palm. It was not late in the afternoon but the ceremony's commencement was drawing close and the Fletcher family appeared quite nervous: a fact that had not escaped the young businessman. He wondered what the problem might be.
His mind told him it was nothing to concern himself over but his heart gave him a brief pause, wondering if this was some miracle that had given him a chance at escape from these obligations. He dismissed such thoughts immediately however and reminded himself of his duty and his need to succeed.
He would hold to his convictions, even if it was not what he truly desired.

"I just wanted to make sure you weren't hurt miss. Do you need assisstance getting home? I do have a horse and cart. There is not a house for a little ways." Marcus said kindly. When the young lady got up to leave, she looked as if she would faint. Marcus rushed towards her to catch her. "Miss, are you alright? With the heat of the day and all the covering the lady was wearing, especially over her face, he knew she had to be hot. He caught her by the arms and sat her back down. "Miss, it is just too hot for you out here. Wait here and I'll get my horse. She 's a gentle creature."Marcus quickly returned back to the cart to fetch Bluebell. He unhitched her from the cart and lead her over to the lady. "This is Bluebell, Miss. You can ride her and I'll walk you home." Marcus said with a smile. He gently helped the woman onto his clidesdale and took the reigns. By her clothes, she lived in the rich part of town, so he started heading that direction. "This way, Miss? Which house is yours?" He asked. Every so often he looked over his shoulder at her to make sure she didn't fall off his horse. Her eyes looked very tired. "Please hang on Miss. Not too much further." Marcus assured her.

This man was the kindest I'd ever met. When he caught me, his hands were gentle. He was even accompanying me home, allowing me on his horse. These action were only given to me when a man was interested in my hand, even they mostly were after my dowry. I leaned over and pat Bluebell- I'd always loved animals- and answered the kind man's question. "Thank you sir, but, " I pointed to where the wedding would be held. "I'm actually quite late in attendance. I hadn't realized I had... dallied too long." I sighed, wiped a final tear, and straightened my shoulders.
((I don't know how weddings proceed... Will she just show up at a back door or something? Then her mother would get her ready?))

Marcus wiped the sweat from his forehead and turned to look over his shoulder. He smiled at her. "Don't worry Miss. We are almost there." Marcus said softly. "There? Is that your home?" Marcus pointed to the house that she had described to him. "You should only be a little late for your previous engagement.
Marcus stopped Bluebell and gently lifted the lady off his horse and onto the ground. "Please, before you go and do anything, please drink some water. It has been a hot day and you don't want to be dehydrated." He said mounting his horse. "Good day Miss." Marcus said turning to leave. He didn't want to linger in the rich neighborhood and he hoped that she headed his warning and got some water before she passed out.
**Um, let's see......I've been an at least 7 weddings.....Usually the seating is placed so there is an isle. The mother of the bride and groom light a candle each after the guests are seated and music is playing. The priest/pastor is standing at the front facing the crowd. The groom comes out and stands to the side in front of the priest/pastor with his best man and any grooms men. The flower girl and boy carrying the rings come down the isle and then the bridesmaids and maid of honor. Lastly everyone stands as the bride is escorted down the isle by her father. Once at the front the priest/pastor asks "who gives this woman to wife?" and her father says "I and her mother" and then he places his daughter's hand in her husband-to-be hands. The priets/pastor talks about unity, the meaning of marriage and blah blah. Then they say their vow by either repeating after the priest/pastor or saying what was rehersed for them to say. They are told to kiss and they are then announced as Mr. & Mrs. Blah blah. They walked down the isle first while the rest of the bridal party follows. Then the priest/pastor announces there's a reception afterward for the guests to eat (if there is a reception).......at least that's how most of the ones I've been in went.....i hoped that helped.**

Luna spent her early afternoon wandering about town, chatting up the local grocers and merchants some. One thing Luna did well was talking and getting others to open up. She was excellent in networking and if she had been reborn into a wealthier life she could have been quite the business-woman. Alas the world did not grant her such luck, though it didn't stop her from making a pretty penny now and then. Luna was about ready to give up looking for another simple errand or part time job when one just happened to fall into her lap. Luckily her boss at the tavern had received notice that the big wedding that's got the town abuzz is looking for a few more hands to help wait tables during the reception. Her boss being the big kind-hearted guy he was, had recommended her a a few others from the tavern's night staff to help out. Since the wedding involved two high-class families, the wage would be a lovely increase from what they would normally get at the tavern. Without even thinking twice about it she made her way into the rich side of town after having taken a quick stop at home to clean up and change into fresh clothing. She had even managed to put on some makeup and tie up her dark chocolate brown hair into a bun, held in place by a simple hair ornament. With some help from the locals int eh area she came to find the cooks house, where she would help move all the food to where the reception party would commence. After having also been handed an apron, she went to work immediately. First helping the cook with a few other people make the final preparations before going through the labored task of moving everything, for the wedding would take place soon, and the reception would take place right after. **I'm just assuming there will be a reception party afterwards. most weddings do. It's also where the cake cutting and what not happen. so yea. If there isn't going to be one, just let me know and i'll edit my post. ^^ **
