Holden was outside, rummaging through his pile of collected, well...To put it nicely...Junk. It was odds and ends of this and that. Some of it things he wasn't even sure the origins of. Like this flat and shiny piece of...Something with little holes in it. The only reason he kept it was to study later. It brought out the scientist in him. That curious side that wanted to learn how everything worked. Wanted to take everything apart. Be it constructed by animals or an animal itself. There was no one around to teach him about how the body worked. His mother had only been interested in showing him how to make potions and cheat people. While studying with her, he had had little contact with others. Most others by now had learned to keep clear of Chena, he supposed. It was rare to get a full potion from the green mare. Not unless it would greatly benefit her.

Or she could butt into the life of someone else. There were times she would give a full potion-usually a love potion-when not asked for. Holden often heard her saying this was what the customer had really needed. Not the potion to heighten the vision to find a lost object. Of course not. They needed the love potion to win the heart of the maiden or prince they had been dreaming about for so long. She said she could sense it about them. See the longing in their eyes. Holden was never sure if she really could see this about them. He did know the customers never returned to grumble.

Then again, his family never stayed in one place long enough for a customer to complain about anything. If there was one thing his mother knew, it was how to conduct her type of business.

Holden shoved aside a large skull, sending it crashing to the ground. He uttered a curse at his carelessness, flipping the skull over to see the damage he had given it. The side it had fallen on was now cracked. That was irreparable. He supposed he could do something else with the skull. He had a few others like it.

It appeared to be the skull of a large feline predator. Picking it up with his mouth, cradling it against his chest, he took it back to his cave to lay in a corner. All over the floor were assortments of junk he was in the process of studying or putting together.

She racing through the trees the mare had to find what she'd lost sight of, where was it? she had lost sight of the stag as she ran through the woods, though she could still hear it's hoof beats before her, as she continued racing up the mountain. Only had she just freed the stag from the nightmare to peruse it once more, by the dream may it lead her where it will, but she had to follow it.. she'd followed the stag far from the grove to this place she knew little of.

She found the hoof beats ahead of her fading, curses she came through the foliage onto rocky ground she spun around with some effort doing her best not to loose her footing. "Where am I now I wonder" she spoke her voice filled with the innocence of a newborn child. examining the area she was unable to find the stags trail, however she found a trail of another. "Perhaps the one who lives around here will have seen other signs of the stag." she smiled confidently and trotted along the path leading to a rather peculiar cave with piles of strange things she'd never seen before she approached cautiously examining some of the objects in Holden's junk collection with curiosity.

She was about to call into the cave until a loud crash followed by cursing caused the mare to jump back from the entrance. Flustered she shook herself and then straightened out "Hello who's there she called, have you seen a white stag in these parts?" she smiled.

The stallion placed the skull in the corner, pushing away a few things to make room. Sometimes he wished to move his belongings to another cave, but how would he do that? He had collected too many things. It would take him days, weeks to move, depending on how far away the new cave was. He was finding how quickly the space disappeared as he found more things he wanted to study. The problem was, there were so many of those things. The world was full of such mystery. There was so much his mother couldn't or didn't care to teach him. Chena's only focus seemed to be on potions and how best to scam others. Holden couldn't agree with that. As for his father, Holden never felt any desire to seek him out. Not even if the older stallion had some things to teach him.

Growing up, no one was allowed to visit with him while he was studying under his mother. She was the only contact he had with the outside world, aside the customers she drummed in from time to time. Even if he had managed to get closer to someone, he was always pulled away so she could keep her patrons fresh. Gullible. Chena never risked staying somewhere for too long in case of being found out. It was a good strategy for what she did. For her son's benefit, it was horrible. Though he would admit silently he was curious if his father had anything to tell him, being pulled all around the place made him withdrawn and unable to communicate with anyone normally. He had become content in his loneliness, only making friends with his treasures.

Occasionally he would see Stars not his sister or mother. Usually just those passing by who were drawn in by the variety of things sitting outside. They were all given the cold shoulder until they left. Holden just didn't know how to socialize with strangers.

So it would be his misfortune that he would meet one. He was still in his cave when he voice broke through to him. His head shot up and he turned, listening closely to the words of the being he couldn't see.

"Why would I see a white stag? There's no such animal in these woods." He would know. He had studied enough of them and their bodies. An albino deer? Who was this lunatic? Nothing like the usual he saw. Best to get rid of them quickly before the situation got any worse. Likely they weren't right in the head and were chasing after things that only they could see. Good for a head doctor, but not him. The mind didn't interest him.

Who was this strange stallion was he another sylvari? he didn't sound like one more like a grumpy starborn. He mustn't have seen it then, as it passed his cave a shame really "There is," she assured him certainly "I followed it from the Grove." she said stepping into the cave further the darkness of the cave her own body illuminating the cave like a flower she was after all sylvari.

She caught herself looking around "Why is your cave so full?" she asked him with an innocent curiosity she had never seen its like before, she knew some starborn liked clutter but nothing like this it had even expanded outside the cave, sylvari didn't need anything but the essentials this was very unusual behavior to her.

"What's all this for?" she started prodding through some things she found interesting. Her glowing leafy mane and eyes helped light the darkness as she continued curious like a child through the various nick nacks, she flattened her ears "Oh I'm sorry there's just so much here." she smiled.

Holden was still safely in his cave of wonders as the stranger answered him. One eye cocked upwards in confusion, but he wasn't surprised. If she had come from somewhere far away, he wasn't likely to know about it. The hermit stallion focused on what was around him, not what might be hiding in another world. Though it did interest him what was out there, there was too much work to be done here to travel. He was only cutting into a small fraction of this forest's secrets. There was more to discover, he was sure of it. Many more secrets and even undiscovered things. If only he was able to write down his findings instead of storing it all away in his memory. A reliable source, to be sure. But writing it down would give him more peace of mind. If he suffered a head injury and lost some of his stored information, he would have to start over, again.

Not that suffering head injuries was anything he thought he would suffer soon or often.

A light suddenly penetrated the darkness of his cave. He stepped back, confused by it. There was nothing outside to create such a light if the sun shone upon it. When he seen it was the mare, he was even more perplexed. He forgot to answer her. Was her mane giving off light, too? Were that...Leaves?

Until she started poking around in his piles like an unsupervised child. He should know. He had been exactly that way as a foal.

She was touching his things...Why was she touching his things?!

Panic gripped his chest as he watched her, his mouth opening to shout. What if something in there was breakable? Those all needed to be handled with care.

Then she spoke once more and his mouth closed, but it didn't crack from the serious expression that always covered it.

"I study it," he answered, moving towards her to prod certain objects back into place. "Are you chasing another creature from your own homeland? I suppose a strange stag won't affect the ecosystem of this forest. Unless it carries with it some disease or parasites the creatures of this one had never seen before."

"Is there something wrong?" she asked innocently as he nudged some of the thing back into place. as she stopped prodding his stuff, he seemed to be a curious stallion, in more ways than one. "The forest is full of fantastic things, but why do you bring them all back to your cave?" she wondered aloud "wouldn't it be better to study it outside were one can feel the suns warmth?" She glanced outside before smiling.

"Have you learned many things?" she shot him the question rather abruptly.

she paused a moment before noticing his surprise before explaining "All sylvari glow, only the mother tree knows why though." her red eyes cast a contrasting glow to the rest of her markings which glowed white.

Though with his concern she began thinking about her chase into these lands "There are many stags in this wood one more will not cause the forest any damage," she assured Holden, how she managed to notice the other creatures of the wood while blindly chasing her stag you'd have to wonder. she finally answered "I did follow it, my white stag from my homeland and it has led me to you."

User ImageMairin trotted through the woods, with a particular destination in mind, her brother's hermit cave, with the hopes of dragging the stallion from his cave, hopefully to meet their father and get some help with her fire flowers she wanted them to go higher and be more beautiful. She wanted to bring smiles to so many stars with her science. A rather different objective than her mother.

Neither Mairin or him had any particular interest in their monther's scams however Mairin was grateful for her teachings, at least in science. She still loved her mother very much as much as she loved her father, she just didn't approve of scamming people with fake love potions.

A white stag came dashing cross her view on the way up to her brother's cave Mairin did a double take, but as soon as she'd seen it it was gone. Ohh wouldn't brother be interested to know of this new creature in his wood? she pranced the first few steps as she picked up the pace toward her brother quite excited needless to say.

"Brother!"

Holden looked at her and merely sighed. The tired sigh of someone who was used to others not understanding him. He liked his things to stay in their exact spots until he needed them. There were too many things that needed cataloging to shift them around. He might end up counting something twice.

For a moment, the stallion stood quietly, just watching her. The scientist part of him was studying her and her glowing body. But mostly he was thinking of an answer. Though he was a hermit and preferred to use the cold shoulder to grant himself privacy, he was aware he came off very rude most of the time. A lot of the time. And when someone was being innocent in his presence, it wasn't always so easy to do. He couldn't help being reminded of his sister.

Speaking of.

Holden almost winced at the familiar voice. Always glad to see Mairin, he tired of her always trying to get him out of his research. Thought it "bad for him," Like studying the mind was a bad thing. Ridiculous.

"Nothing. Nothing. Just...Please don't shift things around." Forgetting her other question entirely, he moved past her, eyes fixed on the opening to his home. "What is it now, Mairin?"

Mairin ran happily into her brother's cave "Holden! I saw a ...!" Mairin blinked there was another mare here.. a mare in his cave? In her brother the hermit's cave? AND she was pretty and glowing, and pretty. Mairin was so happy her brother had found someone to invite into his cave she grinned at her brother "Holden when did you find a mare?" she whispered giving him a playful nudge she'd have to tell father and mother!

"Hello, I'm his Sister Mairin." the mare almost running over her brother to see the pretty plant mare, still careful enough to avoid touching all her brother's things "Do you know you glow?" she blurted it was curious the way she glowed. "Brother did you know?"

Neva watched Holden greet his sister, though had to resist poking some more knickknacks around his cave before Mairin came running over to her. She wasn't sure what she sort exchange was about so she ended up just looking on unknowing. But then her expression became awe as Mairin managed to avoid everything. There was so much here how did she manage to avoid it all. The mare wondered it must be a talent.

"Greeting's I am Neva, a Valiant of the wyldhunt" she smiled introducing herself.

Holden was preparing to tell her to spit it out when she had to go and do the unthinkable: Interpret her surroundings how she wished to see them. That he would let a mare in here with his precious equipment was ludicrous. Only another collector, cataloger, was allowed in here. He never thought this leaf mare looked or behaved anything like the sort. She seemed dimwitted, in his opinion. Hunting a white stag. Ha! He would have seen such a creature.

Though he had heard of a herd of white Stars far to the north, with antlers decorated with moss and flowers. They were like a herd of spirit deer, precious to behold. Or so he heard from those who traveled past his cave.

The stallion sighed as he fixed his sister with a tired look. "O do not find mares, Mairin," he answered, not sparing the one behind him another glance. "Most, like you, have a habit of sneaking up on me. Now what is it?"

Mairin paused trying to remember what she had just seen she seemed to have a faulty memory when something else came into view. It made her own research super hard without someone to write it down for her. What she wouldn't give for a little dragon scribe. "I uh forgot," she admitted whistling innocently. "I was just so surprised you have a mare in your cave!" she smiled at the pretty leafy mare.

"You're so pretty Neva, Where did you come from?" she asked ignoring her brother for the moment looking around for a place to lay. "Brother! you should clear some space and we can talk together!" she said eagerly with a smile, gently moving some of his collection delicately to other places. Though she was still careful with other star's things.Eventually she'd managed to clear a space the mare bade Neva sit down.

Mairin however had to get her brother to come join them. "Come Join us Brother!" she started tugging playfully on his mane. Come sit with us you could learn all sorts of neat things about this pretty mare!" She Wiggled excited as she said it.

Neva was about to answer Mairin until the mare seemed to start buzzing around moving things she dare not move these treasures seemed so important to the stallion, she wondered if mairin knew how much it would upset him. "Are you sure that's wise?" she asked Mairin as she zipped back and forth.

Before she could say anything more it was done, and there was a large spot on the floor. Neva blinked then gazed over to holden expecting some sort of reaction from him. Being bade to sit she did so still careful not to touch anything as the stallion had requested in the beginning. For siblings these two were very opposite in nature.

She watched carefully the two sibling's interact it was very different from where she came from. All of the Sylvari were all brothers and sister but their interactions were nothing like this, at least what she'd come to understand. She was actually eager to continue watching the two.

The stallion sighed, not in the least bit surprised. And his sister was supposed to be a scientist in her own right! She always came off so ditzy to him, he wasn't sure how she managed not to poison or blow herself up. He loved her and enjoyed her company when she visited during more appropriate times, but she was difficult to get close to. Not that that would come to anyone's surprise, even Holden himself. He didn't get along with many animals. Being in the company of others made him feel so tired. Like he had been working endlessly for a week when forced to socialize for a hour. He found himself wondering when she was going to leave. The both of them.

Dark eyes widened as Mairin began to shift things around. Despite his reaction, Holden did trust her with his belongings. She knew they were important and wouldn't intentionally try to harm them. He still couldn't help panicking whenever anyone touched them, even the littlest. There was so much here, if one was moved even a few inches one way, he might forget if he had counted it or not. His memory only worked if everything stayed the same.

"Talk about what?" the stallion grumbled, not moving to join them in his own home. "Don't you have your own experiments to do?" Or something girlie the two of them could do together was also on his mind.

The red haired mare bopped her brother on the head with her hat. "Silly Whatever we want." She looked over to Neva "If you wouldn't mind telling us!" Mairin was so happy he decided to join them. Not that she was going to let him refuse she was quite stubborn when it came to it. She loved her brother lots always hoping for his wellbeing. But Maybe that's why he needed a mare around to help him get out. It couldn't always be her. Mairin was so happy he'd met someone even if she was a plant mare. But she looked neat and glowed!

"Soooo" Mairin Nudged her brother "You first" she smiled happily trying to improve his mood. Holden always seemed so down or sour. Holden was always lost in his work. She got that way too often but she always paused for a bit to socialize. She loved to put on shows for children. The mare smiled thinking about their faces when she shot off her fireworks.

"I do!" She chimed as he asked about her experiments "I came to ask you about some of the chemicals for colors," she explained "Buuut.." the mare grinned and nudged her brother again "They can wait."

Neva Nodded "I will tell you what I can." Neva answered She only knew what she'd been born with. While listening to their conversation Neva began to wonder if they were engineers of a sort. There were many who knew lots about things like that in her world. Neva however was not one for science as it was. She was more intune with the natural aspects of the world and the elements. Not that there weren't Sylvari that were quite knowledgeable about science.

Each Sylvari was brother and sister but they were also their own. She had Ties with them but her wyld hunt gave her a greater calling. True Siblings like twins were a rare occurrence but it did happen and they were thought of in the highest regard. Neva simply smiled waiting for one of the two to ask her a question.
