Bly trotted happily down a deer path he had discovered going through the forest. He was bigger than any deer though, so he had to duck under tree branches and squint through spider webs but he was having a glorious time. He wondered where the path lead, and if it would take him somewhere beautiful. He smiled at the ground, making sure not to trip over any tree stumps or rocks as he went about his way. If only I had a friend to enjoy this with me. He thought to himself, swatting mosquitoes away from his body with his long, dark brown tail.
He stopped suddenly. There was a fork in the path. Right or left? Which way? It didn't matter because he wasn't lost, but he wanted to know where both paths lead. This made him think of his family. If they were here, they'd know which way to go. Moms and Dads always knew everything. He missed them, but he knew they were alright. If they weren't, he'd have felt it. He sat down on his bottom, like his father used to, and thought hard about which way to go.

Vasu was in a frolic type mood. He ducked through the trees, down a path he had taken many times. Last spring he had happened upon this path, and the treasure that it led to! Now he was returning for a little pick-me-up to his spirits. He rounded the path, and kept a steady pace. Ahead there was a small opening where he would go to the left. The path would get a little higher there, where he had taken down a few branches to heighten the path last time.
Ahead of him, he thought he saw a brown rump planted at the end of the path. An eyebrow cocked up. I will see who or what it is! he thought with a skip and a hop, as he sped out the path and into the narrow Y in the path. Silly of him to be so bold in the forest. He was lucky he never ran into a sleeping skinwalker!
A soquili! I will greet him with a hello! "Hello!" he called after sitting there and thinking out his simple greeting only a moment before. He had came out the path that was to the strangers left from where he sat. One might think it odd to see a grown stallion sitting, but Vasu didn't give it a thought.
