Mwokoti had lived three lives she could remember. This one, the third, promised to be everlasting if she were cautious. Her greatest enemy had been felled, the other calmed, and since no others had reason to wish her harm, there was nothing that threatened her well-being.

Nothing but nature, that is.

In all of her three lives, Mwokoti had taken off her lantern only twice. Once, to help her beloved first born; and then now, to help the group of Nchi in hot pursuit of their queen and her kin. She had forgotten how dependent on the unrelenting light of her only trinket she had become.

Many Gods and Goddesses were adorned with ornaments that were lavish and awe-worthy. Not her. She had only been given her lantern, which was more for intent of purposefulness than visual appeal. Without it, not only was she prone to having trouble seeing in this, the darkest night she could recall, but she felt. . . distressed in the wake of its absence. As if a child had been taken from her, and she knew that feeling well.

Mwokoti preferred flying to walking, and walking to teleporting when the option was hers. She had just delivered a cub safely back home and now had free range to pick whichever mode of transportation best suited her. Flying it was.

But the storm had other ideas, and without the light to help navigate her, she was forced back to the ground by the onslaught of rain and the streaks of lightning across the sky. Mwokoti had never much liked this kind of weather.

She landed in the Rogue Lands, that she knew. The rain pelting her face felt cold and sharp, so she raised her massive wings to better shield her face.

Goddess of the Lost losing her way. . . Who couldn't enjoy that kind of almighty irony?

His was not the only un-natural light out this night. That was the first thing that the frost-glowing eyes picked up from the tattered wraps of massive and bony bat-like wings that his their owner from both the onslaught of the storm, but prying eyes as well. Arthas has been flying through the weather well enough until a narrow call with lighting. As thrilling as it was, common-sense won out and he took shelter in a small hollow under a ridge. The glow of his runes and seeping mist allowed him to find it easy enough in the night and storm but he had hardly wanted to share, so he used his wings to both keep warm and to keep out unwanted guests but....

That was no mortal light...

Slowly he unfurled one of his wings and then the other, stretching them carefully before tucking them along his back to make room for whatever gust he was about to invite to take shelter with himself and Lana'thel, who was none too pleased by his movement. She gave an annoyed squeak before tucking further under his body only her tail puffed out to show anything else was with him. A dark chuckled escaped his lips, and he let his head raise up to peer better through the dark and rain, that light... It was lovely. And it illuminated pale fur.. A goddess? It was hard to tell..

Raising his skeletal tail out into the rain he let the blue glowing magic seep out for her to see, it was just as bright a beacon. If she wished, she could share his shelter. If not, then it was no loss to him. At least it was not a mortal....

Still... He knew it was a lie even as he thought it. He had very little contact with other gods. It was interesting to see one and he almost.. hoped.. that they would come and speak to him. Even if for a moment. Eternal rebirth got lonely after a while when you never knew anyone consistently... Even more so when no one actually wanted to know you at all for having one of the.. less respected domains. He hardly had followers knocking down his den to worship and praise him now did he?

Still, betrayal was as much a part a life as death. It wasn't liked but things could not be a perfect utopia.

And from the darkness shone a bright, holy light...

Stories of Mwokoti had been told since time had realized its own existence. Grateful parents who were overjoyed to have their children returned spoke of her to their pride, almost always starting with the ceaseless fire that neither blew in the wind, nor succumbed to the rain. She had never been on the receiving end of this experience before. It was surreal to be the one led by a glow in the distance.

Well before she reached him, she anticipated a God. Mwokoti had very few she considered friends. There was Teaching, Plants, and Strength, with the last being her oldest and dearest friend. But friendship was never a necessity in lieu of cooperation. It came easy to communicate efficiently and peacefully with other deities.

Mwokoti folded back her wings and trudged toward the shelter.

She had enough experience to keep from making mistakes such as accidentally shaking water off on him or staring too long. Many Gods did not appreciate being gawked at by their own kind.

Mwokoti spared him a quick glance and found out all she needed to from that: male, dark, winged, and in possession of very interesting eyes indeed. She wiped her paws against the ground to at least get some of the moisture off the pads on them.

"Thank you," she said in a way both detached and sincere. How plain she must have looked with only her wings and size to identify her as a Goddess. "The rain is a brutal visitor tonight."

" You are welcome, my dear. I am happy to share... " He murmured back as he raised up one of his massive wings to bock out the entrance to their little hollow. Even with the tattered quality to them, they were long and wide enough to close it off keeping them from the worst of the wind and rain. When he spoke, his voice was.. odd. Strangely soothing but with a echoing quality, like two voices speaking at once, one whispering, and one speaking seductively.

The next time he spoke he pulled it back so he was speaking more normally to her, sounding more like the whispery voice. " It is not nearly as brutal a visitor as the lightning accompanying it.. I'm afraid I made the mistake of trying to fly through. It came a bit close. That would have made for an unpleasant evening. " He offered her a charming smile as he allowed himself a glance at her in that light created by their combined glow. It might as well have been daytime with the both of them sitting in there together.

What he saw now that he could see her... well.. she was stunning... She had a rather simple beauty about her, pale and very lovely. Unlike a few of the more eccentric and gaudy looking gods and goddess he had met. No practicality at all. He wore only his armor and the source of his mist. She wore only her beautiful lantern.. Which no doubt had some power in it as well.

Shifting, he gave a bow of his head to her, pale locks falling across his eyes slightly. " My name is Arthas... Might I ask yours? "

To Mwokoti, distorted voices were one of the more interesting things a God was capable. She had seen many like her wink in and out from one place to another, fly, and shapeshift. Though wondrous to mortals, from one God to another they were nothing special; all of them could accomplish these things with minimal effort. Not many were gifted with a voice that set them apart. Shame he should stop using it.

She wondered the reason for it, but was rarely one to pry. The likely culprit was past experience. Mortals would be unnerved by feeling as though they were surrounded by multiple speakers, she imagined, and statistically a God interacted with more of them than other Gods. They simply had a higher population.

She was not innocent of forfeiting some of her quirks to appease the majority. It became habit after a while.

"We have that in common," Mwokoti mumbled, and it had a double-meaning only a mind reader could infer. To Arthas, she only spoke of their mutual attempts to brave the storm and the lightning that had nearly punished them for it. "The Goddess of Lightning must be angry with us."

She had never been very good at telling jokes, and that was her lackluster attempt at it. Personally, she couldn't recall meeting the Goddess of Lightning. They certainly weren't enemies.

Mwokoti nodded. "Mwokoti is my name. Thank you again for your assistance, Arthas. Where were you planning to go?"
