The grey adolescent was sitting in the sun, staring out towards the border, cerulean eyes distant. He was still in uttter shock over what had happened. He remembered that his father had left sometime in the night, and had barely acknowledged hearing the white lion tell them to stay there and get some sleep.

The next thing he knew, it was bright morning and his father still hadn't returned. It was at that point that someone, he couldn't remember who, had come by and explained quietly, but firmly, that their father had been escorted to the border and banished from the pride for his overly vocal views.

Avahk didn't even know what to feel about any of it. All the adolescent knew was that he wanted to strike out at something - anything! - and find someone or something to blame.

It was safe to say that Hamaniya was a mess. She had adored her father like no other, so to find that he was gone...well, the yellow lioness was having a hard time balancing her emotions. Sure, part of it might be that she was an adolescent, but this was not the fitting display of a lady!

She was doing her best to hide from the rest of the pride, but Hamaniya wasn't the most independent girl. She was terrible at hiding, and ended up just staying near where her father used to always be. Where her siblings would be, because they would understand, right?

Weepy-eyed, but currently not a sobbing mess, Hamaniya's eyes lit up when she saw her brother. "Avahk!"

His name. Someone was calling his name. Someone female, and not yet fully mature. The most likely culprit was one of his sisters...

Seemingly disaparate pieces of information finally clicked together and Avahk was able to fit a name to the voice.

"Hamaniya," he responded in dull acknowledgement. His every syllable and movement was limp and uninspired as he continued to stare straight ahead without even bothering to turn towards his sister. His sister whom he could never, not even for a moment, fool himself into thinking was his father. The grey lion had never been as disappointed about having no brothers as he was at this moment.

Yes, Avahk was just as depressed as he was! Hamaniya felt a little heartened by that, but she wasn't sure on how she was going to get his attention. She wanted to cry to him, to be honest, but judging by how he said her name, she wasn't about to get him upset at her. It...wasn't her fault that he was gone, right?

"Are....are you ok?" she asked, her voice cracking just a bit. Impossible to ignore that she had been crying earlier, but she didn't expect Avahk to acknowledge that. He probably felt like he had to be tough for his sisters, since he was the male of the family, now.

"Sure," he answered as dully as before, voice low and flat. "I'm alive, I'm here." Unspoken were the words "what do you want from me?" Avahk didn't even know if he wanted a sibling here or not right now, he was just so...empty.

Had he driven their father to this? His idolizing of Lord Fuu? Or had this been something that was just a part of the white lion even before they were here? He didn't know. Would probably never know for certain.

But that couldn't keep the guilt from welling up inside of him.

Hamaniya just sort of...sat there next to her brother. He didn't seem happy, but it didn't cross her mind that he'd want to be alone. She wouldn't want to be alone at time like this, so why would he think differently than her? She sniffed a bit, letting the awkward silence sort of grow between the two of them.

Then...well, the female couldn't help but speak up a bit. "Do...you think its our fault?" she asked, sounding hurt and concerned. Since Mother wasn't here, it was almost like they were orphans. There was such an extended family here, but no one would replace the position of their father. Hamaniya felt like she couldn't really tell anyone exactly how she felt, and the little lady wasn't really sure what to do with herself.

"I don't know." The sentence was torn unwillingly from his throat, a response that Hamaniya merited by their shared blood and upbringing, that no one outside of the four of them could ever earn. The question was, in not so many words, one of the thoughts he'd been agonizing over for hours now.

Overnight, his life had been turned upside down. Avahk had always been confident before that even if he didn't have all the answers, he could find them with time, or effort, or both. Now...now he wasn't sure of anything anymore. Not even what he'd once thought he'd known.

Hamaniya winced. She felt like she was hurting her brother more, but part of her really wanted to know how he felt. Somehow, she felt like he would be a bit more honest than their other sisters. Maybe that was just a boy thing.

"I almost wish to try and go out there and find him but...." She let that but hang in the air for a moment, feeling herself shiver a bit with emotion. "I don't think I could find him, and I doubt I'd be welcome back here. I just...don't know what to feel."

Another short pause before she really looked at Avahk. "I'm sorry for bothering you," she whispered.

The boy didn't turn to look at his sister, not even when he felt the heat of her gaze upon him. He was so lost in his inner turmoil that even hearing and responding to her words was like reaching across a vast gulf.

But he heard her moving, as if she was about to leave.

"...wait," he called. Then paused, as if trying to put his thoughts in order.

"Do you...miss him?"

Hamaniya turned towards her silver brother.

"Yes," she answered, feeling the emotions swell up again. "A lot." She knew that she was going to burst into tears again, but she was pretty sure that her brother wouldn't know how to handle it. So instead of letting herself lose it in from of him, she ran off, her sobs clearly audible as she tried to go find a place to hide for a while.

At least he wasn't the only one Avahk mused, feeling his own eyes burn even as he listened to Hamaniya's sobbing grow further away. It didn't help him figure out what to do now. But it did make him feel a little better.

Though he was glad she wasn't around to see the tears overflowing and dripping down his face.
