An opportunist, Remarque was always seeking out whatever energy signatures he could find. He found them all appealing, in their own special way. A low energy signature—a first rank senshi or something—was typically new to the war, and therefore easily influenced. They, theoretically, had yet to develop bonds that would prevent them from swapping sides—if only he could make a good enough argument. A mid level energy signature meant that the senshi was a veteran of at least some sorts. Perhaps they had seen friends, lost friends. Been hurt. They could be swayed by picking apart their weaknesses—attacking their goals and actions. A high level energy signature was different from both. They were most often than not strongly loyal to their cause, and refuted both his words and the Dark Mirror Court. At least they made for a good battle, though.

All in all, for as much as Remarque detested order, he loved when he wandered across one of them. Especially a pretty one.

He had been Mirrorwalking into a fairly discrete part of the park, intent on gathering some energy, when he spotted here. As glamorous as mirrorwalking was, he didn't want to take the chance of her finding his mirror and deciding to smash it, so he brushed himself off and walked a bit away from it before he stepped out of the clearing. Glancing over this senshi, he figured he wasn't going to get any points by being a creeper, so he said, as he approached, "It's a good evening for a walk, but you seem to have gone a little out of your way, senshi. What are you doing out here, so late?"

"I was listening," she said. So Cybele was trying to be a good senshi, hunt down the evil to protect the innocent and all that. Or something. Maybe she'd find more senshi to answer her questions, or at least talk to. She'd expected something exiting to happen to her, basically. Something dramatic. There wasn't any epic battle waiting for her, no huge youma or benevolent, shimmering warriors of light. So she decided to take matters into her own hands. After, as Senshi of the Hunt, it couldn't be too hard to do a little tracking. Right? But she had stood still for so long she had considered leaving empty handed. Then, all at once, she heard something. Footsteps. She felt, with them, the sense that something evil was nearby.

"You know, for youma and stuff." When she saw the person, she felt a bit nervous. She'd heard of the negaverse, but she wasn't expecting to actually fight a human being. At least not right away. After a quick examination, though, Cybele decided he was a senshi. Otherwise, why would a guy be wearing a tiara? So she smiled at him instead of... being really confused. Though, she was a bit. A black outfit, and wings? Maybe... black was for boys. And he was the senshi of... vultures or something.

She shrugged at his questions. "Well, you know... I'm kind of busy during the day..." Satisfied with the guy, she looked up towards the trees. Something was near, she could tell, and she didn't really want to be ambushed. "And I was just looking all over..." She turned away, looking the other direction. "I'm Sailor Cybele, by the way. And I think there's something bad near here. Can't you feel it?" She couldn't see anything. Something suddenly occurred to her. "Oh, is this your area? I can leave if you want. But... could you help me fight whatever it is, if you don't mind?" Whatever it was, it felt strong. She really didn't want to have to fight something alone. And the worst he could do was say no... Right?

Remarque was never not impressed with the White Moon. New members trickled in all the time, and he found himself fascinated at how little the White Moon did to embrace them. Had she been a Dark Mirror Senshi, he'd have made sure to give her the ins-and-outs of everything he knew—basically—and answer what questions he could.

Like, for instance, now. Now would have been a good idea to teach her about auras, so she knew who was right, who was wrong.

"Pleasure to meet you, Cybele," he said, flashing a warm smile in her direction. "I am Remarque, though—no, this isn't my spot, exactly. I just so happened to be in the area and noticed you. What sort of thing is it you're looking for?" he prompted, figuring there was no harm in stringing her on for a bit. He didn't sense much of anything—sans her—and considering the difference in alignment between the two, he could only figure that no one had briefed her on the Dark Mirror Court.

Cybele was, in fact, really confused. With all the senshi stuff going on all at once, The Land of Confusion was her home for now. It usually went hand in hand with some answers, or at least ideas on what to do. But, at the moment, there didn't seem to be anything suspicious around, so she didn't know where the aura was coming from. Except the senshi, Remarque, but he was being weird, not evil... Like, what big bad person wouldn't attack a hopelessly confused senshi? So, that left Cybele with only one option.

She curtsied, giving the polite greeting of her own. "The pleasure, I assure you, is all mine." Well, that had been easy, She turned again still scouring for... "Youma? People from the negaverse? I don't really know..." She shrugged and turned back, not with all the grace or smile of before. Because she really didn't see anything evil nearby, unless..."Don't you? I mean, I know I'm new and stuff, but you could at least try to help me out like a reasonable person instead of treating me like I'm incompetent!"

Angry. That's how she wanted to sound. She didn't bother hiding the suspicion in her gaze. It was an experiment, but it also ment that Cybele was back in Confusion Land. Lovely. And going from being a sweet princess to a touchy newbie- ignoring, of course, that her response was mostly because her lack of experience was a sore topic- was probably really obvious. Oops...

Remarque quirked a brow at her little outrage. "I don't feel anything but you," he mused, though paused, as if he were having a revelation. "…Oh. I see what the issue is. No, Cybele, I don't think what you're feeling is anything from the Negaverse. I do, in fact, believe you are picking up the aura of a Dark Mirror Senshi."

He wasn't sure if she had gotten an introduction or discussion about the Court, or if she knew what to expect—but if she hadn't known them before, she was going to know them now.

Remarque had, giving his previous words an extra few seconds to sink in before he glanced at her out of the corner of his eyes. "Which would be me."

Cybele’s jaw dropped. “You’re… evil?” The thought had crossed her mind, sure, but hearing it was still a shock, especially since Remarque had been being polite to her, if not kind. “But… you’re a senshi,” she pointed out, gesturing at his clothes as if it wasn’t super obvious. The pieces fell into place pretty quickly then. She shut her gaping mouth, her eyes beginning to fill with anger and wariness. She backed up a few steps, hoping that would help if she had to make a dash for it.

The anger was because one, she was starting to see the messed-up nature of her court firsthand. For example, “I don’t think you should have been the first one to tell me about how senshi can be evil. But you are…” She wasn’t really confused anymore, just mad. The other reason, two, was that if she had been trying to trick him into admitting he was evil, which had worked, sort of, he was actively toying with her. Cybele decided to keep it straightforward this time. “Are you going to attack me or something?” she demanded.

Remarque was sorely tempted to gasp in mock horror, though settled for feigning a fairly convincing look of concern. "Evil is a very strong, very cruel word, Cybele. And I hope you understand the implications of flinging it around. You might very well hurt my feelings, and as I have approached you baring no malice or ill will, I'd appreciate if you could do the same. Mudslinging will get either of us anywhere. My aura is different from yours," he continued, voice suave as ever. "But that doesn't make it bad. You will find those who will disagree, I won't lie to you, however it is impractical to take the word of one side alone. The Dark Mirror Senshi, myself included, are not evil. In fact, we are so very far from it. We have only the best interest of every white moon senshi in mind, and we aspire for freedom and justice for all. Such a goal, I think, would be disrespectful to call evil. No, I'm just here to talk. The night is young and I am restless. If you'd like to fight, I can oblige you," he offered, "Though I really don't recommend it. I have a suspicion you wouldn't last long if you decided to tousle with me. So let's just keep it at words for tonight, shall we?"

He was toying with her. That’s what Cybele told herself, anyway, but she couldn’t help feeling drawn to his words. The hint of threat in his words, though… That she was taking at face value. Her voice was just a squeak at first. “No, no please. We can just talk.” He was right, though. She doubted she could take him if it came to a fight. Still, she watched him warily. “I’m sorry about calling you evil. I just haven’t met anyone… not from the white moon court before, and I’m already confused enough. Putting people in boxes is easier, you know?”

She didn’t trust him one bit. In fact, she was scared. Keeping her voice light and normal was hard, but she was trying. “It was wrong of me to assume. I uh… hope you’ll forgive me?” Seriously- if he didn’t forgive her, she’d have to run. Fast. She didn’t think it would come to that, but those words didn’t usually have so much weight. “So, yeah, I shouldn’t make snap judgments. But… would you mind explaining to me exactly why I shouldn’t hate you?” She was baiting him, sure. Maybe some of the other senshi wouldn't approve, but she was curious. And she didn't think she'd fall into the trap of his words.

"Of course I wouldn’t mind It's not like the White Moon really gives you an introduction course, so far as I know. Calling me evil is probably just a naturally reaction. Though, it's the actions, not the aura that counts, I should imagine. As for why you shouldn't hate me, that's easy. I've done nothing to wrong you." He shrugged, as though the conversation was second nature to him. "The Dark Mirror Senshi have no goals that result in the harm of senshi. In fact, we've quite the opposite. We wish for liberation—freedom. The ability to do great things, both for this world and all the others. The senshi, as you will come to know through experience, I'm sure, are a poorly mislead group with no leadership and no direction. The princess you are expected to revere—the Moon Princess—has long since disappeared, and yet war rages on in her name. And be it misplaced loyalty or naivety, the White Moon—your kind—persists. In staying with them, you condemn yourself to an unfulfilling, empty future full of disappointment and loss. It's depressing. Though, one of the saving graces of this war is the Dark Mirror Court. We have a leader—a righteous leader—who seeks salvation for all of you still imprisoned by the White Moon. Ares, our Queen, seeks to free you from your bonds and reveal to you your true potential, which she then expects you to utilize in order to keep ourselves and our loved ones safe. I hope that answers your question…?" Because, oh, how he could go on.

“You think my loyalty is… misplaced?” Cybele’s voice held the slightest hint of any edge. She was scared, but she wasn’t going to cower. She wasn’t going to threaten him either, since she thought Remarque still might attack her. “I’ve never heard of the princess, but she doesn’t really matter. You’re right about the White Moon Court though- it’s a mess.” The truth in his words about her court made her angry, but when he went on and on about his, he seemed to be talking around something that he wouldn't say. Honestly, he sounded like an insane, evil person from a book. But there was no way she was going to tell him that.“But the senshi do their job anyway. Destiny City’s a dangerous place, but at least people can live here. If the senshi weren’t here it would be flattened.”

She was trying her best to be reasonable, but it was hard when you thought the person you were talking to was crazy. Or maybe he wasn’t. Maybe Cybele was just misguided- she knew she was confused. But she still didn’t appreciate him insulting her court. “They protected me for a long time when I was defenseless. Now I’ve joined them. I’ll fight for them, or help them however I can. I have a purpose, and I don’t think it’s trapping me.” Of course, she just had to give a riveting speech about the White Moon. She wasn’t really insulting him or his court, but if he took it that way…

“Anyway, if you want to help me so much, why would you even think about fighting me? I haven’t done anything to you either…” She didn’t have to keep asking questions. Why couldn’t she just make herself walk away? Maybe it was the truth in Remarque’s words, or maybe it was the fact that she didn’t know where else to go.

Remarque nodded as she spoke, as if he were earnestly considering and assessing her words. "Ah, but I don't want to fight you. So I haven't attacked. I am of the mind that violence is unfortunate in this war, however I have had to defend myself against some of the more…aggressive members of the White Moon. There are a faire few who needlessly resent the Dark Mirror Court. Obviously, finding some way to help you is at the top of my list, but if you choose to attack me, I can't very well just sit back and take it. We'd be dead if we did that, unfortunately. The White Moon is not so keen to have us intruding on their territory. Not that that's our intention, mind you. Preferably we'd like to help save as many of the White Moon as possible and then extend our attention to the universe. Towards repairing the damage the White Moon made. Have you been to space yet?" he asked conversationally. "It's beautiful. So empty and barren, though. Once, I've heard, it was thriving—full of life. And if it weren't for the White Moon, your world might still be alive. Not that I've got anything against Earth, mind you. I'm rather fond of it." It was, after all, the only world he'd ever known. "But, unfortunately, this world would be safer without the senshi polluting it. If the White Moon weren't here—they really don't belong, mind you—the Negaverse wouldn't be forced to defend it. And then there wouldn't be all these nasty youma running around. No fighting."

He still seemed fairly conversational, though sighed, as if such disappointed him. "The White Moon has an alternative theory, however, so I can only hope they haven't had time to drill their propaganda into your head already."

Cybele’s eyes flicked up. Some stars peeked through the trees. They were familiar- from this distance. “Space? I don’t know what you’re talking about.” Every time somebody opened their mouth, they told her something that made everything more confusing. At least this time it was just that. No violence was implied, really and she didn’t want to hit Remarque either. “This is my home. Earth.” She made wide sweeping motions with her arms, trying to point at the world. “I’m trying to protect it, to help out the people that saved me. Is that propaganda?”

This was hardly one of those World War II posters, but maybe the ideas were the same. Evil killing innocent people, check. A strong army needed to stop the evil, check. Had she been told that at all? “I was told not to trust anyone… not from the White Moon. I was told that I needed to fight.” She shrugged, turning back to the Dark Mirror Senshi. “I don’t trust you. I don’t really appreciate you accusing my court of causing the world’s problems and brainwashing me. I don’t like it, but I have no reason to believe you’re wrong. Of course, I don’t have any reason to believe you’re right either.”

A soft laugh fell from Remarque's lips. "And you are entitled to believe what you want, of course. I have my opinions, as you have yours. I've been around for a while, now. I've seen more, but that's only to be expected. The things I have heard of the White Moon—the things I have seen…"

His voice trailed off and he sighed. "Did you know, once, that it was by fault of the White Moon that nearly sixty civilians were abducted into space? For almost a month and a half, they were trapped. Up on one of the strongholds, held by one of their princesses. I don't know how many of them died, though the numbers were great. Well over half, I'd think. It was only after the Negaverse, and the then small numbers of the Dark Mirror Court came to liberate the field that the civilians managed to make it home—even those that had died. Fluke that it was. But then again, I suppose strange things are always happening in space. If you find one, they'll tell you what it's like. To die." He took a short few seconds to consider the topic and then shrugged, as if he were interested in brushing it aside. "That was my first experience with the senshi. The White Moon. Knowing it was there fault so many people were uprooted from their homes, their lives—and then died up there. I've spoken with some of them—the ones who had a brief stint with death? …It's odd, you know. Their eyes look a little bit different. But, I suppose everyone changes in some way when confronted with their own mortality."

Cybele had been trying to just brush Remarque’s harsh comments aside. In the end, though, he was being confusing and his words had too much truth in them for her to just disregard them. It was easier to think he was wrong and she was right. At his last comment, though, her eyes slowly widened and her expression became one of disgust. “That’s awful!” she finally said. “Why would they kidnap and kill innocent people? I would never-“ She caught herself then. She dropped the shocked expression and went back to defending her court. “I mean, we would never do something like that. You’re lying.” But her voice lacked the strength of before.

“Or… would we?” The images of her only fight floated across her mind. She remembered Tsui afterward, calling it fun. But that wasn’t all cruel, like abducting people. The youma they had fought was mindlessly destroying things, after all. “Maybe they would, but I don’t know.” Cybele shrugged. “At least you know who you’re fighting. This war is still making my head hurt. I promised the White Moon I’d help them hunt the darkness, and protect the helpless. Then you tell me they’re doing the opposite…” She stopped talking long enough to take a deep breath, then resumed. “I don’t know who to believe, but I can’t just sit at home like I’m helpless.” At least, not anymore than she already had. But he didn’t need to know that.

Remarque watched Cybele thoughtfully and then nodded. "It's a lot to be thrown into, right off the bat. So far as I know, the White Moon isn't exactly very helpful towards the new members. They sort of just give you some power and leave you to your own affairs. It's unfair to you. I was overwhelmed when I first came into this war, however I had the advantage of a very friendly, supportive group. The Dark Mirror Court has always embraced those who join their ranks. If every you find yourself lost, we're more than willing to help. You shouldn't be stuck in a position—on a side—where you can't be certain they're telling you the truth. Even now, if you ask the White Moon about the Surrounding, they try to blame it on the Negaverse. Who didn't show up until it was to rescue the civilians. Whatever the senshi say, though, there is no denying that if it weren't for the Negaverse, the civilians never would have made it home. The civilians there—for weeks they were there. And the senshi would bring in some food, some necessities. The senshi would come and go, always with the message that they 'couldn't' get the civilians back to Earth. However," he sighed, "Regardless of past conflicts, I can't blame them. Not when you all are fed lies. I can't judge you based on what the Senshi have done in the past. You seem to have good intentions. I don't think you'd be the sort to willingly kidnap anyone, much less the civilians you're supposed to protect. If senshi were more like you, I might not be so worried for their fate, but unfortunately on top of all that, the senshi are tearing themselves apart—rapidly. Would you promise me something, Cybele? If ever you find the White Moon too confusing, too corrupt for your tastes…Come speak with us. The Dark Mirror Court would be more than willing to take care of you."
