Sparring. It was sad that he was starting to get why people did this. It made you feel productive and getting outside, despite how dismal the weather always was, felt like going somewhere despite not being able to. The fact he couldn't leave was really starting to eat at him. He was used to going out with friends to bars, restaurants, or even Walmart every few nights but here he had nothing to change things up at all.
Saliva was starting to nag at him to practice and he was just getting to the point where he just took her suggestions without much fuss.
He made his way to the training fields, checking his phone and reading the latest tweets. Same ol Same ol.

Ami had her nose buried deep in a book when it happened. She didn't even see it coming because she'd gotten to the part where Colonel Brandon proposed, and you couldn't look up from that part!
So it was inevitable that they would bump into each other. Her books went clattering to the floor, and Ami's feathers were ruffled. You didn't just interrupt Sense and Sensibility during the best part. It was unheard of. Unthinkable.
"Excuse me!" she said angrily. "Watch where you're going!"

Melvin could accept blame when it was clearly his, but he rarely just took it to be polite. No 'I'm Sorry' was given when the girl collided with him just when he was taking off his jacket, and he took one misstep before balancing himself out.
Looking at the books falling about, he looked back at her. It wasn't hard to figure out what had happened. Either her books were too high or she was reading, either meant she was to blame. "Maybe you shouldn't read on the training fields or at least watch where YOU were going instead of the plot."

Ami so wasn't in the mood for this today. It had already been a stressful morning with new trainees running around her heels. She didn't need another one.

Right now, he just wasn't in the mood to have someone sass him when THEY ran into HIM.

Ami didn't have time for Melvin's bullshit. She wanted this trainee out of her face, and there was one surefire way to do that.
Shoot a bullet at his chest.
Of course, it would ricochet off his chest and simple fall to the ground- they were only runic bullets after all, and Melvin had a full FEAR shield, unlike her- but the point was made. She was done talking and slinging mud, she wanted to intimidate and leave. Ami wasn't the type to let others think she had a soft attitude. When it came to dealing with nuisances, she was all metal and nails.
Not to mention anyone that thought they could get away with insinuating she was raised by wolves deserved a bullet or two anyways. It was rude.

He felt the blast to his chest and staggered back, rubbing his chest from the sharp sting that nearly made him fall back. Hand to his chest, he just looked at her in surprise for a good moment before that shock switched to anger. "What is wrong with you? Are you crazy?"
Was that how she introduced a spare or did she just expect that he would be fine being shot at.
Summoning his own weapon, he pointed it at her as well. "If you wanted to spar, you should have just said so." He then fired, a egg pod shooting out and splattering on her shield.

If Ami could describe Melvin in one word, it would be infuriating. Not only had he insulted he bumped into her, insulted her behavior, and been rude in general, now he had completely ruined a perfectly good dress. One that she rather liked, actually.
"YOU'RE SO ******** DEAD, NEWBIE," Ami screeched, not even bothering to wipe the slime off. She was too busy shooting Melvin, aiming directly for his face. Ohhh how she wanted to just break his neat and tidy little face. Snap those glasses in half. He deserved it after all. If there was one thing Ami cared about more than manners, it was her clothes.

He jerked back, feeling the sharp pain as the bullets shot right at his face. He stepped back, covering it as if expecting to have a broken nose, but his shield had taken the damage and left him and his goggles were perfectly in tact. Not even a scratch.
The bad thing was that her weapon was a gun and had a range, but he hoped if he got further back, they would both have their advantage. He just had to hope she had worse aim.
"Newbie? I've been here for months!" Sure, it was new to some people, but he wasn't as new as some people. "And if monsters haven't got me, I doubt you will." He wasn't exactly impressed by her, but she did pack a punch.
He fired again, but he was still a bit dazed to the attack to his head.

Ami took the moment to reload her guns, as they were out of runic bullets already. The guy, on the other hand, took the moment to brag about how he'd been here for months, like that was some great accomplishment.
"A trainee is a newbie just the ******** same, and you my friend, are the greenest trainee I've ever seen," she mocked, "If you think you can simply wave around your ego, you've learned absolutely nothing about the island."
That much was entirely true. People didn't survive well here if they weren't willing to suck up their pride and grovel, follow orders, and eat the dirt. It was a dog-eat-dog military system here, and pride would get people nowhere.

"I have the ego? You're the one who bumped into me and started all of this? I didn't fire first!" He shouted back, preparing his gun again. This woman was crazy, starting a fight over something this silly. Maybe it was just another person dealing with cabin fever or, more likely, she was off her damn rocker!
The frustration wasn't doing anything for his aim, which only upset him more because it really did make him look like a newbie.

In the long run, Melvin was a better intuitive fighter. Sure he might not have been making strong shots, but at least his shots were hitting. When Ami was a trainee, she'd been a mess, missing all over the place. So at least Melvin was hitting.
The only advantage Ami held here on the training field was more time on the island. Ami was smaller than Melvin, and was quickly learning to use it to her advantage.
So by the time she reloaded, she had three more bullets aimed at his body.
