Grant was sitting on a park bench, thinking about things. It was time for him to power up and get out on his patrol, but he was hesitating. For one of the first times ever, he was not sure if he wanted to power up and do what he had promised to do.

But it wasn't a matter of wanting to.

He got up and went into an alley, looking around to make sure no one was around so he could power up without anyone seeing him. He did so successfully and took a deep breath in. His chest felt tight and he looked around.

He had to do his normal patrol.

He put on a smile and told himself everything was going to be okay. And who knew, maybe he would make a new friend out here? That would really make his day.

He had picked up the power signature a few blocks away, faint and hardly detectable from the distance he was at. Yet it was still there, like a faded memory, and Celsus had decided to try and pinpoint it. Whether friend or foe, he wasn't sure, but either way he was cautious, and it was only after spending a great deal of time wandering aimlessly that he was at last able to determine from which direction it had come. After that, it was relatively easy to trace.

The power signature belonged to, not a White Moon senshi, as Celsus had rather hoped, but to one of the Dark Mirror, who was stopped in an alleyway in one of the lesser populated areas of town. Celsus pushed his hands into his pockets, lifted his chin with curiosity, and stepped into the alleyway.

"Good evening."

Virtus felt the energy signature approaching him but he did not panic, at least not immediately. It was unlikely he knew how to panic, in the conventional sense. He was a very calm and happy person.

Panic just did not suit him.

Anyway, he was trying to find that balance between making enemies straight off and talking to them first. He was supposed to spread the word about his faction and he did not think making enemies was the way to do it. He had tried to fight people immediately, to keep doing his patrols they always managed to interrupt, but it just left him feeling guilty and like an awful person. No where close to who he really was.

He had to find a new method. He was a healer, not a fighter. Doing damage did not make sense to him, because he was given the ability to heal it. And beyond that, he was just too nice to want to punch someone in the face without a real, life threatening reason.

Seeing the knight, he paused. Knights could not be brought to their side and they were supposed to be the ones to fight directly. Virtus couldn't do it, though, and instead offered a puppy dog smile.

"Hello," he said, "you're out late! But I guess we all are, so that makes sense. I'm not on patrol right now, though, so you don't have to worry if you were thinking I was going to go hurt anyone."

He leaned against one of the brick walls of the alley, a calm, almost pleasant expression on his freckled face, hands tucked loosely into the pockets of his tan trousers. His lips twitched at the corners as though he were half smiling; or rather, as though he were attempting not to smile.

Celsus tilted his head to the side.

"Perhaps not tonight," he said agreeably. "But do you normally hurt people? It seems from your statement that you only mean tonight I do not have to worry about, which insinuates that other nights I would have to worry."

Virtus had not thought his wording out very well. He did not like hurting people, but he knew that most senshi and knights considered gathering energy as a way of hurting people. Even though he didn't see it that way, he was just trying to assure the other that he wasn't out there doing his patrol.

Maybe he should have just said that?

"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to say that! I don't hurt people if I can avoid it, definitely. I really don't like doing it, and I try to take energy from people that... well, I mean. I know you don't understand how we do things... but I do have to go on patrol regularly, so I guess I do mean just tonight. And maybe tomorrow if I'm still feeling confused?"

He smiled hopefully, like his explanation not only cleared everything up, but made it all okay as well.

Celsus's brows rose, though they were partially hidden behind the curtains of dark red hair that fell across his forehead in thick strands. He idly twisted one between his fingers and gave the senshi a scrutinizing look.

"You're an interesting senshi," he said, after a moment. "Not quite like the others, are you? At least, not like those of your kind that I've met before." He chuckled. "Still, you're not on my side. Not really."

He gave a casual shrug, and a smile, as though this were a regular, everyday thing and pushed away from the wall, taking a few steps towards the senshi.

"I suppose we had better get on with it then, shall we?"

"Oh, I think all the senshi are nice! I have a lot of friends in my court, and they're all really good people, honestly! You'd be surprised, and maybe you should talk to them a bit more and you would see!"

That was not as true as he would have liked. Sure, his compatriots were really nice to him, but that was likely due to them all being on the same team. And some of it was actually obligation not to just punch him in the face to make him go away. There was no guarantee that attitude, friendly or even just putting up with it, would transfer to Order folks.

But in Virtus' mind he just couldn't see why not.

When Celsus moved from the wall, Virtus offered his hand in greeting. Because that was obviously the only reason why the other was moving, and it was definitely not because he wanted to fight. Though Virtus seemed to catch on after a moment.

"Oh, you want to fight now? Well, I said that I would try not to if I could avoid it, but if you really want to..." he couldn't say no. He always tried to do as other people wanted.

What an interesting fellow, Celsus thought as he gave Virtus a careful look, his eyes flickering across his earnest face and bright eyes. He was somewhat like a misplaced puzzle piece, a part that didn't fit into the mold set by the other Dark Mirror Senshi that Celsus had had the misfortune of meeting.

He gave a small laugh of surprise at the outstretched hand.

"Like I said - " He lifted a hand, wrapping it around the other's, eyes twinkling. "You're an unusual one, but you're still a DMS, which means that, well..."

Celsus gave a jerk of his hand, abruptly dragging Virtus forward so that they were practically nose to nose.

"Come," he said lightly, a smile curving his lips upwards. "Do your duty and give me a good fight. Shall we?"

Then he swept a leg out and knocked it into the other's legs.

No worries!

Virtus was surprised by the sudden closeness, but not entirely put off. He wasn't sure what was going on, after all, and he was not the type to jump to negative conclusions. So the idea that a threat or something violent was coming did not really enter into his head.

It should have, but it didn't.

So he stumbled when he felt Celsus kick his legs out from under him, falling but catching himself on his hands and knees. He sprang up and away, if only on instinct. He had been practicing getting out of battles, rather than staying stuck in them.

He didn't like to fight if he could avoid it.

"You really want to fight?" He asked, taking it in stride. Sometimes that was just how it worked out. Some people just wanted to fight, and he would do as he was told, and as he needed to. He held up his hands, rolled into loose fists. He took a breath and then lunged, swinging for the knight.

He was only a little bit surprised that the kick to the other's legs had actually worked. Most of the Dark Mirrors that Celsus had fought before had automatically been on their guard. Navi in particular had almost taken out an eye.

Celsus took a step back, hands on his hips before he lifted them in a casual gesture, as though to indicate subservience. "Why not?" he said lightly, and smiled, his eyes twinkling in the dark behind the frames of his glasses. "You're a Dark Mirror, I'm a Squire of Chronos...that is what we do, is it not?"

Virtus' swing caught the edge of his jaw, Celsus stumbling backwards as his head snapped back abruptly. Lifting a hand, he rubbed at his chin, already feeling a bruise beginning to form.

"There you go," he said cheerfully. "See, it's not that hard."

He swung his leg out again in a roundhouse kick to the other's side.

Virtus was not really sure if he agreed with the idea that they had to fight just because of what side they were on but he supposed that was fair for the knight to think.

He was not going to tell him what to believe!

And he knew he needed to fight to better himself and to protect his teammates. If someone felt this way then they might attack his fellows, and that was not going to be good for them. Though he was meant to heal and help, he couldn't just ignore a challenge when it came at him.

Of course, all his thought about duty and defense did very little for him. Celsus' foot connected hard to his side and he was sent sprawling, weighing about as much as a stick and as squishy as a pillow. It was really not that hard to throw him off his balance.

And that had hurt on top of it, which always sent his head spinning.

Celsus hadn't exactly expected to kick him that hard, but he may or may not have gotten a little carried away. His irritation from the days past had settled into his nature without realizing it, and carefully he reigned it back in, adopting the calm and collected expression he usually wore in these sorts of circumstances.

He crouched beside Virtus and offered him a hand. "You're going to have to learn to be a bit more self-aware, if you're going to be a Dark Mirror," he said casually. "Even if you're not the best at offense, defense is a crucial strategy for most."

Virtus wheezed a thank you, since Celsus was helping him by giving him some notes on his fighting style. And it was not laced with poisonous sarcasm, either: he was legitimately thanking the knight for his tips. After all, Virtus could only learn through experience.

Though he imagined he preferred sparring with other DMC members, if he had the choice, if only because they didn't kick him quite as hard. But then, it was his fault for not realizing that not everything would be softened for him just because he's polite.

This was the real world, after all, not his happy little bubble.

"I think I'm just... uh..." his voice was a little high, and he took a moment to gather himself. He lost his thought and shook his head, smiling as the pain faded. "I'll have to keep working on it... that wasn't a very good fight. I'm sorry!"
PostPosted: Tue Apr 09, 2013 9:09 pm

He pulled the other up and then stepped back, absently rubbing the back of his neck. The Dark Mirrors were certainly an interesting group, that was for certain, he thought, idly flicking his gaze back towards the other. First Navi, and then this guy...well, he amended, there were the few I met up in the Surrounding as well.

Celsus cracked a smile. "No fight is a good fight," he said breezily, and then winked, putting a finger to his lips and taking another step back, dancing on the tips of his toes.

"By the way, my name is Celsus, and I happen to be a Squire of Chronos. Just for future reference."

"My name is Virtus!" He wasn't sure if he had said that already, and felt rude for not offering it sooner if he hadn't. He really should have tried to lead with an introduction, but sometimes things go a little too fast for him to keep up with.

"Senshi of Kindness."

His sphere had always been apt for him, even before he had awakened to it. He never questioned being a Dark Mirror, either, or that Chaos had awakened the senshi of kindness to its side somehow. He felt it all had worked out the way it was supposed to, and he was more than happy to serve his court.

He nodded his head and grinned in proper greeting. Everything else was forgotten, and he felt that at the moment they had a chance to actually be friendly, which he leaped at whole heartedly.

He much preferred making friends to making enemies, any day. Even though he was told that knights were, without a doubt, the enemy.
