Jerry was still smoldering as he walked out of the life labs, wobbling a bit as he debated shower or coffee. Coffee first. It would give him the energy he needed to get the showering done. It was all going... well. He was enjoying it. And more importantly, his new duties left him too exhausted to feel sorry for himself.

He was humming as he made his way to the cafeteria, an action that had become rare the past few months.

Candace could really go for a quality cappuccino right now. Bad coffee with a lot of creamer would have to do until then. She was on her way out of the cafeteria as Jerry headed in, coffee in one hand and hovering near her mouth and a book in the other hand.

All of Candace's attention was on the old looking book. She only stopped when she heard humming, blinking and looking up to spot...a very dirty Jerry. A very dirty but very..okay Jerry? She lowered her book and her coffee and stepped out of the way of another passing Hunter.

The last time she'd seen him had ended..unexpectedly. Since then she'd heard some pretty terrible things. Candace hoped they were simply rumor. He looked okay other than...was he set on fire or something? "Jerry? Are you okay?"

"Hmmm? Oh, yeah, just exhausted-" He babbled casually to the voice calling out to him. He had made a b-line toward the coffee station, but paused as the voice registered in his databank of "recognizable". He blinked and turned again, "Oh ah.... h-hi Candace. Um. I was er... coffee. Um."
PostPosted: Tue Nov 13, 2012 10:45 pm

"I can tell just looking at you--" And then he just kept walking. Candace frowned and closed her book, tucking it under one arm and following after Jerry like a worried shadow. "I'll make it for you, you just...go sit, okay? Go find a table or something." Candace nudged him to turn around away from the coffee station, handing him her book. "And take this with you."

Once that was settled because she wasn't taking no for an answer, Candace set her coffee down to prepare Jerry's. She at least liked that he took his coffee like she did with the addition of sugar.

She may have added some extra sugar and brought along a few extra sugar packets just in case. Candace turned again to find where Jerry had stumbled off to.

"Hmm?" He mumbled as he was herded, but eventually did sit down, staring at the book in his hands without reading it. His weary mind had wandered.

Candace. He hadn't really spoken to her since... that night. They had all been so busy. Duties and missions and silly quests... His lips pursed as he opened the book, thumbing through for pictures. As Candace returned he spoke up softly, "Melvin and I found a strange island. I think I met a Muse... I mean... A real and proper Muse. Like... how many musicians can actually say- "

Good, he'd sat down. The book he was looking for was an old book on Arthurian legends, the only pictures mostly being diagrams here and there. Candace sat down beside Jerry and set his coffee down beside him, sipping at her own drink and listening quietly to what he had to say. "Ohh? Fun! Bring anything back?" She didn't like this. He was exhausted and dirty. "You should really shower, you smell like a chimney."

Was she being too critical? She was just being honest. "Other than exhausted, how are you doing?" There was genuine concern in her voice now. Why was he letting himself go like this? The Jerry of a year ago at this time was nothing like this. He'd been cheerful, happy, a good boyfriend...not..this.

"I'm fine. Just came back from um. Some testing. Was on my way to shower. Had to fuel up." He straightened, dusting off his abused jacket and frowning as he stuck a finger through a charred hole. He'd need to talk to the supplies people about a replacement soon. "She gave me a flute," His eyes lit up as the topic was brought up, rising to beam at her proudly, "Well a flute of SORTS- it's ah..." He searched his memory for what he had researched, "An Aulos. The labs said it would change though, I told them to TRY to keep it a flute." He liked it as a flute. "I passed her test and she gave it to me."

Testing. Right. Candace arched a brow but didn't ask. "Good...you still need a haircut, too." She commented as she reached out to run her fingers through his hair, pouting a little. Maybe a trim...just something that didn't make him look like such a hippie hobo. Dropping her hand away, Candace quietly listened to Jerry's story with interest. An Aulos? She wasn't quite sure what one of those was but she'd just go along with it.

She grinned. "That's great! I'm proud of you. Was she pretty~?"

His distant smile wobbled and vanished as he busied himself with his coffee, scratching at his hair as she played with it, "I didn't actually... *see* her... but there were statues... she sang beautifully."

Roar mentally rolled his eyes. If it helped him get over the queenbitch, he'd let Jerry delude himself with whatever he wanted.
PostPosted: Tue Nov 13, 2012 11:56 pm

And there went away his smile. Damnit. "Well, as a muse it's probably her thing. Perfection of the arts and all that." Candace nursed at her coffee while trying to think of what to say to bring his smile back.

Had he really thrown a fit in the life labs? She frowned and glanced Jerry's way a moment before she looked away to just stare down at her book. This wasn't Jerry. She hated this...thing Jerry was becoming.

She felt responsible.

I hardly doubt any of this is your fault. Atropos reminded her gently. He was over you pretty quickly, it was you who had trouble taking the rejection. But still...

"I heard you humming earlier! I haven't heard you sing in so long. I miss it." Candace forced her smile back. She wanted to ask him about the rumors, she really did..but not here.

"Haven't really felt much like singing lately," He said quietly, punctuating this with a deep sip of coffee. "Um. About..." He poked at the cup, watching the milky warm liquid ripple, "About the other day..."

"That's a shame. You're so good." Candace pouted. She was finishing off her coffee when Jerry spoke up again. The other day? What did he--oh.

...Oh. That. She blinked. "What about it?"

"W-well... more like... I guess a week or so ago I don't even know everythings a bit..." He swallowed, smiling weakly, "We're um. We're cool, right?"
PostPosted: Wed Nov 14, 2012 12:03 am

Candace blinked. She looked surprised by Jerry's question. "Of course. Why wouldn't we be?"

He slouched a bit in his chair, doing his best to hide his crimson face behind his ratty hair. "I was um. P-pretty emotional and um. I just... wanted to be sure. We were still um. I don't know." He drummed his fingers on the edge of the table in a nervous little beat.
