Kyndall was not the type to celebrate every milestone or make a big deal of every anniversary. She'd never been that girl to make bigger something that should be small but she found in marriage, her first one, she celebrated every single morning she woke by his side or every night she fell asleep next to him. She reveled in every look and each minute shift that knit their lives just a little more together like the teeth on a zipper. Each moment she was his, waking or sleeping, was a moment to be treasured and cherished.
It was in that spirit that she'd planned the perfect date for them both. She laid out an appropriate suit on the bed but didn't give him a hint of where they were going or what they were doing. His only clue was that she deemed the night fancy enough for a very nice suit and had dressed meticulously before making sure Harmony at least had somewhere to be.
"Tony, we'll be late!"
She called it up the stairs to their bedroom while waiting by the front door. She slid a fitted black coat over her dress and belted the sash as November could be very chilly. The limo would be there soon. She hadn't told him she was using some of her savings for this night out but then again if she had it wouldn't have been a surprise.
He had to know, just had to know, how much she loved him. She'd spend every day, every minute proving it to him if he let her, including these grand sweeping gestures of romance.
She really hoped he liked it.

Anthony Darrow was still getting used to being surprised. Usually, he liked to be the one throwing the surprises, being the sweepingly romantic one. He had not anticipated a rival in these games, but as it turned out she was quite good at them herself.
He got dressed and smoothed the suit as it hung on him, well fitted and making him feel on the fancy side of things. He was used to playing dress up: he wore a suit of armor to work at night.
Still, he liked the feel of it. He wandered in her direction when he heard her calling.
"I would hate for us to be late. Or would I?"
He had no idea what they were doing and was hoping she might drop a hint or two if he was subtle about it. Or not so subtle.
"Where are we going? "

Every time she saw him she had to stop and catch her breath. Could anyone rival him for looks? She didn't think so. Kyndall broke into a grin thinking he was just as handsome in a suit as in armor but really anything he did or wore was fine with her.
She kissed him lightly and let her eyes sparkle with mischief for her instead of answering directly. There was no way she was giving the surprise away now when she worked so hard to keep it a secret but it was cute of him to try.
"You don't want to be late."
She handed him a coat just in case and waited for him to put it on. She was practically bursting, shifting from foot to foot in impatience to get the evening started. Tonight she'd bring up buying a house together and owning something with both their names on it.
Kyndall Darrow.
"Nevermind that. Just put on your coat." she answered, shooing off his question. Glancing out the hole she saw the limo arrived and opened the door smoothly. "And get in the car."

Tony laughed and tugged on his coat. He assumed he could rule out late night rock climbing due to their clithes, but he also knew better than to take anything at face value. Maybe she was just trying to throw him off.
It was a mystery.
"Oh, it seems that someone left their limo in our driveway," he said, looking at her in wonder. "Are we going to the prom? I already told a senior I'd go with her."
He grinned and moved to tug her to him, kissing her lovingly. He was enjoying the playful attitude in the air, which was likely due to her keeping her secrets. He let her go so they could lock up, then moved to the limo. The driver was holding the door for them, which was usually Tony's job.
He didn't seem to know what to do with that, so he just let Kyndall get into the limo first and followed after her.
"Am i not going to know what we're doing until we're there?" It seemed so, at least, but then again he rather liked it. It was fun just enjoying the ride, so to speak.

Kyn returned his kiss and felt better than she had in weeks. No thoughts of youma, or the Negaverse, or innocent civilians trespassed into her mind. She was simply a wife enjoying time with the man she loved. There really wasn't another reason needed. She climbed into the limo and grinned, relaxing immediately into the plush leather seat. Maybe it was going a bit too far but she didn't mind that.
Hearing his assumption made her grin. Now he was catching on...
"You got it, so just relax."
It wasn't a long drive and the tinted windows blocked out a lot of the lights from outside. Some people watched them drive past wondering who they were but she only waited and watched his expression for hints of her success. This night was solely for him.
They were headed to the fancy part of town and the houses grew more grand as they drove. Once the limousine pulled up to their destination she looked expectantly out the window. A park awaited.
"Follow me."
She took him up a path, first one candle was placed innocuously beside the cement and then another further down. Eventually the candles increased in frequency until they were lining their path. Only then did it open up into a clearing in the middle of the densely wooded park. Inside that clearing a nicely sized pavilion was set up with candles all around and a sign out front with their name on it.

Tony followed her lead, enjoying the drive and feeling a bit silly for it. He was not a famous person, but limos had that way of making one feel far more important than they really were. He saw the curious glances and knew the tinted windows kept them from view.
It was childish of him to enjoy it as much as he was, but he couldn't help it. If this was the entire date he probably would have been happy with it.
When they stopped, he walked with her through the park, not familiar with the area but noting the candles. He thought the first one was just a fire danger, but the more they walked, the more he saw. He caught on that it was a trail, and he followed the path while holding her hand.
Seeing the clearing and the setting, he shook his head.
"You are far better at this than I am," he said with a grin and he moved to kiss her lightly on the lips. "This is amazing. How long did this take to set up?" He moved to the pavilion, looking things over, smiling in wonder. He was as much impressed as he was charmed.

"I've been planning this for weeks."
Ever since she had her little breakdown at the house, throwing books and scaring him into thinking he'd done something wrong. This was sort of an apology for that, being a somewhat unpredictable wife. She felt she owed him something to show she was amazed and grateful he loved her anyway and looking around this felt fitting.
They really had done a great job! Kyndall couldn't believe how much it looked like a fairyland but the preparations were worth it to hear him say he liked it. Even better when he moved to kiss her. How had she survived so long without that? This was turning out better than expected as she stared in wonder for a moment.
"That's not all."
Inside there was a beautifully set table with champagne chilling and dinner lying nearby, a violin player in the corner waiting to serenade them and enough room to dance in. And it was heated machines on either side of the large tent. She shrugged off her coat and revealed her dress, hanging the bulky winter garment on her chair.
It was a bit too late to say so but she gave him a soft smile. "Surprise." Little did she know she was about to get one back as a random youma came upon their little fairytale outing hungry for energy. It lingered back for a little while, trying to figure out if there was anything worth grabbing inside but hearing commotion it decided to make its way in to find out.

Tony could see that, at least. It looked like something that would need a lot of time to plan. He could not imagine how she had gotten it all done, though he supposed he spent a lot of time away at work. And then on patrol at night, though not every night.
He had his day off, which he spent with her and with their kids. If they were allowed to, anyway. And of course Dogby.
"Not all?"
He looked at the violin player skeptically, though he had to admit it added to the romantic ambiance. He shook his head and in the back of his mind he wondered how much this must have cost, but he would make up for it all somehow. His eyes were drawn from the scene and they settled on Kyndall, his mouth falling open.
"You look beautiful," he said, moving to take her hands and maybe guide her to the table. He came to a stop, though, as he spotted the youma. "You have to be kidding me! I don't imagine that part is planned, right?" He looked at her helplessly, feeling immediately bad that this was happening. She had worked so hard on the surprise: he needed to get rid of the youma without anything getting destroyed.

For few stunning moments Kyndall got to enjoy this night as it was supposed to be, carefree and romantic. The way he looked at her made her beam knowing she'd been able to make him happy. In that span of time life was simply perfect.
And then he spoke and she followed his gaze to see the youma that came in. Her heart dropped into her shoes and her eyes filled with tears. Tonight of all nights she just wanted normal. She just wanted peace and quiet. The pit bull sized youma had other ideas discovering the trio of them alone in the enclosed pavilion. It seemed to want its dinner, too.
"Not tonight." she whispered. "Not now. Why is this happening to me?"
At least she had the presence of mind to nudge her husband and gesture subtly to the shocked violin player in the corner of the tent. It wasn't like they could just power up and swoop in to save the day.
She turned to the guy in the corner, motioning for the other exit. "Run."

He saw her tears and panicked. The violin player had high tailed it out of there at her command, and Tony watched him go. Once he was sure they were alone, he looked at Kyndall and caught her face in his hands. He held her lightly, looking her in the eyes.
"I love you, darling, and tonight will be perfect. I'll take care of this, alright?"
He turned to look at the youma, angry that it had come in here to ruin his night. Her night. She had worked so hard and it was ruining everything, making her cry. He could not stomach that, not for a moment longer. He powered up, his cape swooshing behind him as he brought his shield up in front of him.
"Alright, I won't let you ruin this lovely evening!" He charged at it and it looked at him in wonder, slight confusion, and without any sense of intimidation. Maybe it was just caught off guard, but it quickly learned the stakes when Camelot smashing his shield into its side and sent it flying, away from the set up. So far, he felt he had things under control.
Because nothing made his wife cry, damn it.

Kyndall nodded dumbly but didn't really believe everything would be alright. It was already ruined the moment the youma showed up and scared off their violinist. All she needed now was for the tables to be overturned and the champagne spilled. Part of her wanted to power up and the other part didn't.
The youma charged at Camelot, unhappy to be forced out of the warm tent and chastised by the other knight. It snapped at him in response and swiped a large paw at him while it growled. Seeing her husband in danger she made her decision and powered up, making her way out of the pavilion to stand beside him. Her eyes were still blurry with tears.
"The sooner this is over with the better."
Kyn was trying very hard to master herself but she was also very close to losing her mind. This was simply the last straw that broke her back. Perfect was gone. The only thing they could hope for now was a good recovery.

Camelot felt her power signal when she powered up, though he was busy blocking the swipe he was getting from the youma with his shield.
"I agree," he said, as she came to join him at his side. He smiled at her lovingly, and realized he liked fighting beside her almost as much as a date. Maybe he was an old fashioned knight in some way.
He knew though that the last thing she wanted was to be powered up. He watched her, looking for signs of strain, and tried to make sure the youma didn't get close to her. He stood in front of her with his shield.
"Catch it and I'll dust it," he said to her, knowing her whip could keep a youma still. All he had to do was bash it with his shield and they would be able to return to their perfect night together. He would salvage this, he would not let it die in a fire.

Unfortunately Shalott did not feel the same way. She was tired of fighting and having an otherwise good life broken by incidents like this. It was tragedy that made her want to start helping people but no one was better off and to top it all off she was worse than when she started, cynical and restless. She looked at her dear well meaning husband and frowned.
This was it, the final straw. She promised herself that this was the last youma for her. No more fighting. But she did as he asked and held either end of her garland to let the vines grow around the beast who was not happy in the least to be entangled by growing vegetation. They did their job, holding it in place.
"Just kill it." She sounded tired and defeated.
Her entire body was strained, her face was. Everything about her was just less than before.

Camelot nodded and moved to defeat the youma, smashing it easily with his shield. With it bound it could not dart off and wreck the dinner further, which was good for them. It burst into dust and he waited for it to clear before he sighed and looked at her. He smiled, powering down.
"Darling, everything is fine. My love..."
He moved to her and put his arms around her, tugging her to him and holding her. He knew she was upset, he could feel it in the tension of her body. He hated the very idea of it, and wished there was something more he could do than just fighting each bad guy as it popped up. He had promised to handle these things for her, yet here she was, still having to fight.
He kissed her cheek, her temple.
"I love you. Everything will work out. The night is ours now, and let's just focus on that, alright? and each other."

"I can't do this anymore, Tony. I'm done."
Kyndall powered down and went back into the pavilion, looking at all of her hard work ruined by the unwanted interruption. Even though it was quickly solved the attack left her depressed and broken. When he held her she leaned against him and closed her eyes, breathing in deeply. This was all wrong.
"No matter what I do I can't have normal. This other side of me ruins everything. I'm just going through the motions."
This was just the last thing in a long line of bad events she'd endured in the last few months. It was a slow decline so it wasn't surprising things had come to this. His kisses did a little to soothe her but not enough to change her mind.
"I can't do this anymore, Tony. I don't want to be a knight anymore."
And now her stomach was tied in knots on top of it.
"I think I need to be alone."
