The Negaverse General was on the hunt tonight. She was searching for starseeds, and nothing less. She cared little for what the others in her corps were doing, what th rules said. She needed to be prepared for her plans ahead.

Starseeds were a necessity.

She had herded three young people into a dark corner, the best kind of corner to do these things in. No one else was around, and the friends must have been walking home from the movies. One had a commemorative cup with them, from some movie they were likely looking forward to for months.

Hopefully it was all they had wanted it to be, because it was their last experience together. Or alone.

Taking them down was almost effortless. A little taunting, a lot of fear, and some screaming as they watched each other collapse to the ground until there was just one. She was cowering in a corner of an alley, blubbering and begging for her life. Painite watched her, seeing the way she clung to the body of a young man.

"You'll be with him soon enough," she cooed.

If there was any time to prove she totally wasn't a sociopath, now might've been a good time for Zia. She did not exactly seize the opportunity.

When on a walkabout, doing the usual knight stalking, youma dusting, Negaverse chattering shebang, she noticed the negaverse general and had a 'speak of the devil' moment. After a few months of not really thinking about her, half of her conversations turned to 'PainitePainitePainite' lately, though probably in part to her Lieutenant approaching her and Valhalla's little rant on how she's a killer and a b***h stay away~

But for one, Zia didn't like being told what to do and was likely to just do the opposite any way. And two, she had spoken with Painite before and it was a notably not-stabby experience, as was every other time they'd been in the same room during all out melees. She also conveniently forgot she was a cat for those experiences and right now, totally wasn't and was therefore unrecognizable.

"Heeeey," She approached, not exactly warily for the scene happening in the alleyway. "They dead?" She asked in a deadpan candor, resting the bat she stole earlier on her shoulder and raising her brow at the one that was still blubbering for mercy.

Then, it did occur to her that as form retarded as she was, this was no the proper body for interacting with Painite, and she should probably speak up before she ended up in dead body pile herself. "Oh! Um, you don't know, sorry. I mean, seen you around, big fan and all, and d'aaaaw, you got a proper spear tip. Nice." It might've been awhile since she saw her in person or at least, not from a distance. Side effect of spending half a year hiding on your couch. Either way, Zia ended the gesture with a click and thumbs up. "Very cool."

Advice against talking to Painite was probably the best to take, especially in the mood she had been in recently. Violent did not even begin to describe her. She was destructive, angry, and she had very little filter on who she took her bad mood out on.

Painite head the voice and turned to see Zia walking up to her, arching her eye at the woman who so casually approached her during a murder spree. This was new, though it was not wholly welcomed. And she had a bat with her. Was this some sort of attempt at being a vigilante? It was a bad night for it.

Definitely a bad night for it.

It took her a moment to recognize that the woman was actually someone she knew as a civilian, though obviously had never informed about her life in the negaverse. Painite blinked, then scowled in thought. This was a difficult place. She was angry enough to tear Zia to pieces, but needed as many friends as she could get in her civilian life and really just wanted to talk to her about her boy issues.

Which she did not want to think about, and thus just made her angrier.

"You're a fan, eh? I do like those. But if you've seen me before, then you know what I can do to someone like you, walking into a dark alley when I'm at work." She carried herself in a threatening manner, not wanting to play nice.

"God, you're disturbing," Zia said, but it was in the form of a laugh. Like she was watching a movie and had no concerns about that spear ending up in her chest.

Actually it wasn't like she hadn't considered how a spear might be preferable than being forced to bend to Ares, a frequent thought which was not good for instinctual fear purposes.

"Like, seriously, b***h, you make this s**t fun," She said, pulling up on sagging sleeve of her hoodie and taking a laid back pose. She wasn't going to pretend Painite wasn't bad[/], but she was just so stylishly bad.

"But you're obviously cranky," Zia was about to use this as an excuse to go but she couldn't help but ask. "Which is weird because you look like you got a good haul, yanno? Shouldn't you be, like, I dunno, doing shots and celebrating being closer to your quota? Isn't that what you guys do?" It was confusing as all hell, that was for sure. She just got starseeds, celebrate! Zia clearly had no idea the rules had shifted during her sabbatical into the depths of internet tv and cookies.

Painite watched Zia and tried not to look amused. It was only okay because Gently knew her, personally, and found her admiration funny. But if it were anyone else, Painite would not be so amused. Or, at least, her amusement would just lead to a civilian kebab to prove a point.

But she did not feel like skewering one of her only friends.

"And how do you know about things like quota, and what we do with these shiny little stones I like to collect?" Not much, that much was clear, but she was interested in seeing if Zia had a source that she did not know about, or if perhaps she was actually a member of the Negaverse and they had just never known it about one another.

That would rock.

For now, though, she was being cautious and she felt a little on edge. If civilians were learning this much, even if the information was out of date, it was still dangerous for them. There were too many loose tongues, it seemed.

Zia was leaning against the alleyway, maintaining her goofy and laid back demeanor, but when her eyes scanned the officer up and down she was clearly looking for something. Or studying for something very specific.

"I know enough. I know they're a decent power source and, oh, yeah, people's souls." Or for her, the phrases starseed and soul were interchangeable. Zia rarely admitted she was running on theory 40% of the time. But at least her theories had experiences to back them up, even if they weren't 100% solid evidence.

"I know you guys are collecting them... or were collecting them, but the last several negas I've hit on the streets weren't interested. Oh! Speaking of!" She stood up straight, breaking her lean and put one hand on her hip, frowning, almost childishly. "What the ******** is Natron's deal? That dumbass, actually tried to pull some heroic-saving-the-damsel crap on me and he is just super lucky his gray matter didn't end up on the pavement. I mean, and then he said he was yours and that is just... what? I am so disappointed, I can't even. And to top it all off he's all smitten with those mirror bitches and uggggggghblah."

Painite arched an eyebrow.

Souls? Now that was an interesting prospect. She had not considered it before, or if she had it had been a long while ago and only in fleeting. But she was a soul stealer. That was a lot more threatening than trying to explain she was taking a starseed.

She laughed.

Zia had some good ideas.

"Natron is a Lieutenant, and still learning what big mouthed girls to save, and which ones to leave for the youma to eat. He won't get it wrong next time, I assure you of that." Painite grinned, though she tried not to look too amused. This was a nice break, and it felt just like hanging out with her friend. Except only one of them was aware of it.

"Are you insulting my Lieutenant to me? That is hurtful." She grabbed her spear, deciding that she needed to scare Zia off, maybe dissuade her from chatting it up with Negas. It meant maybe hurting her, but unfortunately it was the best option.

"Tch, oh... baby, don't be that way," Zia's crooked smile remained and her eyes rolled up for a quick second at the implication she had a big mouth. Dear Painite, what an understatement. But something was off, and it wasn't the fact she had a spear aimed at her in a threatening manner. Actually she'd be disappointed if there wasn't, but besides the point.

The game had shifted, she sensed it, she wanted to know why, but there was something far more petty and less useful bubbling to the surface. "I guess I am. I guess I expected more than to see Painite under the heels of those mirror bitches and senshi whores. C'est la vie, you were great while you lasted," She was still smiling, but rather than light and bright it had minimized and there was a cool hatred in the microexpressions of her features. Bitter? Yes. But she wasn't fond of anyone but total morons being used as Ares' stepping stones, much less a villain she admired for making the game so interesting.

Even when that villain was threatening to stab her. In a circumstance where she'd be disappointed if she didn't. Zia failed at being on the gameboard versus advising others on the sidelines. So hard.

"So disappointed," She added in a theatrical half bow, making a mocking motion like she was clutching her heart. And then she stood up, half lidded eyes focusing on that spear tip before angling back up to look her in the eye. "I guess you could stab me and take my own piece for your collection. Won't do you much good since it's still broken from the last time it got jacked." She totally considered Nehelenia fusing Zirconia an equivalent to stealing her starseed, even if her decay was slow and steady rather than a clean rip.

"I guess it's time to hang it up anyway. First the new generation of idiotic senshi think this is a war over social thought and want to negotiate and talk about feelings and here we are fresh out of great villainy. Wow. If I don't get gutted here and now I'm going to go live on an island and pretend you all don't exist, because how boring. I mean really." Her body language was a half turn on her heel to leave, barely in the conceived thought of execution before being paused while her smile twitched up into that half manic grin again, and her voice had toned down like she was sharing gossip at a sleepover. "Am I? Getting gutted, I mean. I'd like to know now so I can plan accordingly."

Damn it, being nice to her friend was incredibly difficult. Just because they had a civilian relationship did not mean Painite particularly enjoyed listening to someone that was supposed to be a 'stranger' in this context bad mouthing her skills.

"I see, so you're suicidal? That's a shame. I'm like the cop you get to chase you, until you force me to fire, right? I don't like being used by little sad sacks who can't sort out their own lives, and have to blame someone else for the cowardly life they're trying to compensate for. Whatever it is you're trying to posture for, whatever reason you've given yourself for flashing you d**k size around, you're being a bloody moron. My killing you would be a blessing, and I imagine many people would thank me for it."

She tapped the bottom of her spear on the floor impatiently.

"But if you haven't guessed, I'm not in this battle to make people happy. I'm not in this battle to cater to the whims of a psycho with a big mouth that should have already been killed. You're the reason the negaverse has a bad reputation, and people like you are making what used to be a fun fight into a boring, overwrought performance of bravado and pointless lecturing. Why are you even talking to me?"

Her frown deepened.

"Why am I even talking to you?"

She moved them, grabbing Zia by the throat and hauling her backwards, teleporting them both a short distance up onto a roof top. She slammed the girl into the side of the enclosed stairwell, a box with a door on it that led back into the building. She stabbed the point of her staff into Zia's hip, twisting it to emphasize her point.

"If you're not scared of the Negaverse, you're making a mistake. You have no idea, just who you're playing with. And now, you're going to be an example."

The disgust from Painite didn't exactly dampen Zia's mood, but the grab at her throat made her squeal, like she was thrilled. And she was, in a way. s**t just got real, this movie just got interesting, and Zia's mind was elsewhere, watching this girl get slammed against the stairwell enclosure. She didn't have to be disappointed in the lacking of great adversaries and adrenaline the war had suffered from lately,

Then the pain hit, and she didn't know where she was watching from. She didn't have to be disappointed, but she had to suffer different consequences.

Well, as soon as her mental faculties could do something besides groan and lose control of her knees she was going to make a serious note to herself to be conscious of what form she was in from now on when she greeted people.

Painite's words were heard, but currently unregistered, especially when the twisting of the spearhead made her vision spot out into blackness. Zia had retreated. Just like when she was branded and burned, she had left the building, leaving Zirconia to suffer and grit her teeth before she succumbed to the blackout with a moan.

Painite felt her go limp and held on to her for a just a bit longer before she pulled back and let Zia drop to the roof top. She growled, lashing out and kicking her friend in the side.

"Don't be an idiot! You're going to get yourself killed and I don't want to be the one that bloody has to do it!"

She was furious and her energy was coursing through her. She needed to get away from there, go take this anger out on soomeone else, before she exploded and she did end up pulling Zia's starseed from her chest. She backed up to the edge of the roof, imagining someone would find her before she bled too much...

Painite scowled and decided that it was up to fate, not her, to decide what to do now. She owed no favors, doing what she could as a friend while still being the villain Zia had so badly wanted. She backed up another step, falling off the roof and teleporting away.

Someone was going to have to suffer for all of this.
