Name: Darsha

Age: 15
Gender: Female
Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual
Craft/Rank: apprentice Vintner
History: Darsha's history is short, unremarkable and utterly disappointing to this dreaming, scheming girl. Her parents met when they were both apprentice Vintners, they became lovers and when their training was complete, they set up a small brewery in Trine Weyr that they titled the Dancing Hare. They are moderately successful, though they are far from wealthy. Darsha has been raised among casks and kegs and the dense, yeasty smell of brewing beer. She is learning the craft quickly, though most of her tasks and chores are menial and labor-intensive. While she loves her parents, she dreams of much greater things for herself.
Darsha's only real claim to fame is a maternal grandfather who was a brown dragonrider. She saw him rarely when she was a child, his life being an extremely busy one. But he made a very strong impression upon her, and ignited within her childish heart the desire to become a dragonrider herself someday. He died from what appeared to be heart troubles when she was eight, and his loss has been the only significant loss she has ever experienced in her life. Somewhere down deep, Darsha feels like dragonriding is in her blood and is confident that she can make this dream happen for herself someday.
When Darsha was Searched, she was firmly convinced that it was the BEST DAY OF HER LIFE. She believed that she was going to immediately go from doing chores for her parents to living a glorious and fancy life. Much to her dismay, Darsha merely traded one life of chores for another. But, being the hard worker that she is, the young girl doesn't complain. She is attentive in her classes and more thorough with her chores than she was in the brewery - after all, she is now actively working towards that life of fame that she craves. Darsha toes the line the best that she can, there is no force on Pern that will cause her to endanger her chances of Standing.
Description:
Darsha is a slender adolescent, coming in at about 5'6" in height. Her hair is a thick, silky black tumble that comes down to just below her shoulders. When she is working she often pulls it back or covers it with some sort of head-scarf. Her eyes are the most striking thing about her, an unusual shade of jade green that tend to sparkle with good humor. Not being a wealthy or spoiled girl, Darsha's clothes are generally well but frequently mended. Darsha is a hard worker, and this is reflected not only by her dark skin and freckles, but also by her work-worn hands and calloused feet.
Personality:
Optimistic and high-spirited, Darsha always seems to have a smile on her face - albeit her smiles are often the result of daydreams, schemes and mischief. Darsha's understanding of life is that one must make their own destiny. Luck and skill trump fate every day of the week, and if you just lay down and accept things as they are, they will never change. Darsha has a strong desire to elevate herself out of her parent's brewery. She's not entirely sure where or how she will accomplish this, but she is constantly coming up with new ideas that will catapult her into a better life.
Darsha is well aware that her parents would have preferred her to be a boy. She has always felt the need to prove that she is just as good as any boy would be, which has sometimes driven her to attempt tasks that she is simply not physically capable of doing. Being a small and nimble girl, Darsha is not cut out for things that require sheer muscle. Being a stubborn girl, she sometimes refuses to acknowledge this fact to her own detriment. Her need to prove herself constantly is a huge contributing factor to her ambition to become more than she is.
Darsha works hard for her parents, partly because she wants them to value her and partly because it's just in her nature to work hard to achieve her goals. But she also spends a great deal of time fantasizing and daydreaming about ways to change her life, and this can often distract her from finishing a task, or completing it as thoroughly as she ought to. Her intentions are always good, and she always plans on coming back and finishing a chore if something dragged her away from it, through whether or not she carries out these intentions largely depends on how big of a scheme she's currently cooking up.
Because she spends most of her time working at the Dancing Hare, Darsha has very little time to play with her friends or learn about romance. She gets along well with other teenagers, though she's most comfortable with those who have similar personalities and life situations as she does. Darsha isn't terribly fond of privileged youth, even though she longs to be one herself. When she does get together with friends, they spend their time terrorizing the Weyr and getting into trouble, usually because they're trying to pull off one of Darsha's get-rich-quick schemes.
Darsha's greatest dream in life has always been to be chosen as a Candidate for a Hatching and Impress a dragon. This dream is probably one that every child on Pern has had at some point, but Darsha makes it a point to always put herself in the way of dragonriders whenever she can. While she respects her parent's craft she feels that she is meant for greater things.
When she finally did get Searched and become a formal Candidate, Darsha felt so happy she thought that her heart would burst. She feels like her life is finally moving in the direction that she wants it to, and her determination has never been greater. All she needs to do now is find the dragon that she belongs to!
Other: Darsha has a deft hand at mending things. Not the most impressive skill, but one that is infinitely useful.
