Crushing the leaves beneath her feet Ate peered up into the heaves and waited. She had been here for a little while now, her concentration souly used to keeping her thoughts and feelings in check. She was doing so well. She hadn’t become enraged or angry recently or attacked anyone out of spite or malice. She had even adopted the task of asking every DMC’er to surrender first before giving them the chance to escape or if they wished to fight her on equal terms. To this point she had not injured someone to such an extent as she did to Virtus and any news reaching Navi of her fights with the Mirror Court would be filled with the dark Senshi’s having the choice and opportunity to flee. She could do no more than that unless she hung up the fuku for good, and there were some sacrifices Ate was unwilling to make.

Time passed and watching the sun retreating and the moon appearing was surprisingly calming. The world never stopped turning. If there was any consolation to this life she knew that it would continue, with or without her and whatever path she took. The sound of leaves rustling brought her attention back to the present and with a hidden smile she waited for her secret ally to appear. Like she always did with Ate needed to talk to her most Navi could always find her in their park waiting for the girls sound advice and comforting ear.

It was a usual thing for Navi, popping into the park from the Mirror she'd installed in one of the women's bathrooms. She did so most nights, and while occasionally she stayed to patrol, for the most part she was looking for the presence of a certain Order aligned aura. An aura that had been absent for the last couple of weeks. In truth Navi had begun to wonder about the other woman. Curious if she was keeping to her promise, worried that she wasn't. Also worried that she might have been hurt, or worst.

Like every night before, Navi stepped through the mirror, senses spread wide to take in every corner of the park before zeroing in on the familiar power signiture of Ate.

Within moments she had left the bathroom and headed across the frosted lawns of the park, nearly sprinting until she had come across the woman. Relief washed over the teen as Ate came into sight, and she slowed her pace down to a jog, then a quick walk before finally coming to a stop in a pool of soft light cast by one of the street lamps the lit the paths of the park at night.

"Ate." She sounded happy to see the Order Senshi, and she smiled, beckoning the older girl closer. "You're here." That alone was taken as a good sign. surely if Ate hadn't kept to her word she wouldn't have returned to their meeting place. But all the same she couldn't help the nervous fluttering in her stomach.

Oh thank god, she was here.

The Order Senshi grinned happily taking this moment to view her friend, the anxious look only briefly caught before she stood and walked towards her. This of course was still a fragile friendship, but one that Ate adored. Navi was here, and that’s all that mattered. Of course it helped that the girl didn’t seem to be gearing up for an attack which meant that any news reaching the Dark Senshi’s ears had not caused her any ill effect. Ate, thank god, would at least be avoiding Navi’s wrath that had previously descended upon her.

“Navi…of course am here, you couldn’t keep me away. Not when I have news…” She stated slyly as it took all her will power not to gather the girl up into a bear hug. Instead she allowed a hand to briefly touch her arm as they stood face to face before letting it drop again. She didn’t want to push her luck.

“But first, how have you been? How is…how is Virtus? Better I hope.” She didn’t really want to bring him up but she would be dammed if she would cower away from what she had done and the punishment she would face. She said it with every emotion that a worried friend could give; hoping Navi wouldn’t mistake it for false sympathy. She really did regret what she had done.

In truth, Navi hadn't heard much about Ate since their last meeting, but she had taken that as a good sign. No rumors had come back to her about any of her comrades having fallen victim to the Senshi of Pollution's impressive temper. Surely if there had been an incident, she'd have heard about it.

"News?" Curiosity coursed through the petite senshi at the mention, and she followed the motion of Ate's hand as it rose to touch her arm before falling back to her side. She'd expected a hug, she was a little disappointed when it didn't come, but she understood the other girl's hesitation. When they'd last parted it had been on very shaky grounds, and Ate had no idea where she was likely to stand with the DMC.

Mention of Virtus had freckle kissed features tightening, but they smoothed seconds after and Navi offered Ate a soft smile. "He's doing fine. We heal fast, so he's made a full recovery, and a couple of the higher members of our ranks have been helping him train." Virtus, if nothing else, was amazingly resilient, and it still amazed Navi that the young man's outlook on life and those around him never wavered. He would always look on the bright side of things and find the good in people. It was both a strength, and a weakness.

"Now what is this news?" There was a certain thread of weariness to her tone, but mostly she was just curious.

A subtle sigh of relief filtered though her lips as Ate nodded along with Navi’s update. She had assumed as much with her own healing abilities, were a broken bone or bloodied lip could mend within days if not hours but it felt good to have the reassurance she craved. She had done so many bad things recently but for some reason Virtus incident had struck a nerve, or maybe it was because she had seen the after effects of her actions in Navi. She had seen the true pain she had inflicted and she was happy to say she would never do it again, not to her at least.

“Good, am glad and training too? Heh, maybe next time he will be the one beating me senseless.” She chanced a grin hoping old wounds were indeed healing fast and took the chance to sit back down, her hand patting the wall next to her. It was time to talk to one of her closest allies, her closest friends. Time to receive approval or dismissal for what she was preparing to do and know there was no chance to change it back. She took a moment to breath out the pit of nerves wrestled in her stomach and smiled, holding out her hand so Navi could take it if she wished when she sat.

“Whooooo, okay…o-k-a-y, where to start…wh-ere to start” She tilted her head from left to right as if stalling for the right thing to say and shaking her head stupidly when it didn’t come. Blowing out her cheeks in frustration she sighed and shrugged, more to herself than to Navi. It was like a bandage, you just had to rip it off.

“Ok…Right well, you know I think of you…fondly. You have forgiven me more times than I would like to think and ever since you handed my a** to me last time I have been pondering my place, my role as a terrible Senshi.” Another sly grin creped along her features as she tried her best to make light of the situation - the only way she knew how. Inappropriate timed comments.

“I know I am not making much sense but…you once spoke to me about this before, when we first met. About being on the wrong team. I declined you then because I thought you were full of s**t and I had been chosen to be apart of this court, I wasn’t about to abandon it. That seems like a long time ago, and ******** do I feel it. But I know now what I must do!” The edge of excitement has entered Ate’s voice as spoke, making little more sense of what she babbled about but her eagerness seemed compelling.

“I must abandon this court Navi! I must leave the only way I know how…” Her eyes dropped to look off to the side as if not wanting to meet her gaze. “It means I must abandon you too…”

A half amused little sniff followed Ate's prediction that Virtus be able to beat her senseless if they ever met again. He might have been training, and gettting stronger, but he was still the same sweet, pacifist guy that he'd always been, and likely always will be. It was an amusing thought, but entirely unlikely.

When Ate sank down and patted the spot beside her, Navi moved to sit beside her, taking the offered hand and interlacing her fingers with the other girls, squeezing, both in reassurance, and to offer strength. The way she was acting, the hesitation in her voice, it occurred to Navi that whatever News Ate had to share, it might not be something she was in a hurry to share, for whatever reason.

Though with each passing second, and the increasing nervousness exhibited by her friend, Navi couldn't deny her own raising apprehension for whatever the white moon senshi had to say. She could feel her heart, her pulse filling the short stretches of silence before Ate gathered her resolve and began to speak. The phrasing, like a soothing balm to placate the dark mirror, came as a double edged blade. Both complimentary, but carrying the promise of what she was quite certain now was not going to be news she wanted to hear, and she squeezed Ate's hand all the tighter.

There were chances to pip up, to interject or joke, but Navi remained quiet, waiting with carefully slow breaths for her friend to continue. And then she mentioned the offer the ginger haired girl had made to Ate once upon a time, and Navi's hopes gave a sudden forward surge. Maybe she'd read her friend poorly, maybe this was a request to join the Darkness of the court of mirrors. Sitting up straighter, Navi nodded, hazel eyes wide, and far too hopeful.

I must abandon this court, Navi! Yes, YES! This was what she'd been waiting for, what she knew to be inevitable, had only needed to wait patiently for. Carefully neutral features began to brighten, lips turning up and parting as if she would speak.. but then...

"What?" That single word was so full of utter confusion and hesitant pain. Ate had looked away, and while she'd admitted to seeking out chaos, Navi did not understand what path she meant to take. It made her reach out, cupping the other girl's cheek to pull her face around so she could meet dark green eyes. "What do you mean?" In her narrow desire to convert the white moon to the dark mirror court, Navi had forgotten the existance of the Corrupted Senshi.

She heard Navi’s voice echo her own fears, her own nagging doubts and tried to push them away. She knew this was the only solution to a much hated problem. She could no longer be a White Court Senshi as she could be a flying pink hippo, no matter how many mushrooms she took or justice’s preaches she sang. Chewing her lips she searched Navi’s face to see any hint of understanding, that this girl, her friend, knew this was coming and was happy. But all she could see was confusion. She had no idea Navi didn’t understand what she had meant.

“I know its sudden, you got to know I haven’t thought on this lightly, it not like choosing a pizza topping, jeez I wish it was! But you must understand it’s the only way I can carry on being the Ate that I love...and forgetting apart of myself that I hate. The Negaverse can offer me that escape.”

She leant towards Navi’s hand more, appreciating the comfort of her palm against her face. Such a small sign of affection and Ate could suddenly feel safe telling someone this insane news. The first and only person who would be told.

“They can set me free. Can’t you tell? I was never meant for this court - ” She put her own hand over Navi’s and held it firm. “- you can sense it too can’t you? I don’t belong with them.”

The deep wells of rich emerald offered no answers to the questions os very clear on Navi's face, and it was with slow understanding that she came to realize just what Ate was planning. Corruption, not into the eager embrace of the Dark Mirror Court, but the Negaverse. In the grand scheme of things, chaos was chaos, but to Navi, in this situation, Ate's confession came like a blow to the chest.

"But.." How many times had she imaged this conversation? Countless, but never had it ended like this. Never in all the scenarios she'd played out in her mind had she ever considered Ate would take this path.

Ate's cheek was warm under her palm, warm enough to feel flushed, but it was the cooling of her own hand that made it so. Suddenly she could feel the chill of the night around them, and the kiss of a crisp breeze made her shiver, teeth beginning to chatter as she fought off the raising ache of emotions that were swelling up inside her.

The confession wasn't unexpected. Navi had known from their first meeting that Ate was not meant for the White Moon, but to join the Negaverse? "You belong with us," she countered, leaning forward. A hint of desperation creeping into her voice as she reached out with her free hand to catch Ate's shoulder, shaking her gently. As if she could shake away those crazy thoughts and make her see reason. "You'll have a family with us." she shook harder, tears now burning at the corners of her eyes. "You'll have me!"

The weight of Ate's decision was beginning to take hold. "Why do you have to forget everything, aren't there things worth holding onto?" Like her?

Hearing the word family caused her heart to skip a beat and then flutter as she watched the red head gain emotions she hated causing in the girl. Hadn’t she thought of joining them? Hadn’t she lain awake questioning her choice until fatigue threatened her fragile mind? Why couldn’t she be a Mirror Court Senshi? Why not choose a path that would give her support and a goal. That would give her Navi? Wasn’t that the only way to cement this friendship forever? Ate could easily admit to wanting to see this girl as more than her friend but as her colleague, adviser and partner in crime. The proverbial cheese to her burger Ate never wanted to let Navi go.

But that’s just what had to happen. Because she was wrong for them.

The lump in her throat failed to disappear and Ate’s breath caught as she answered her friend, her own emotions threatening to spill over. “Navi…I can’t be apart of your family…believe me I have thought about it but I would only bring your court more harm than good.” This was the only time she had spoken aloud her fears, the growing concerns she had about herself and the power she wielded. Ever since she visited her home world it was like a fog had lifted and she could truly see herself for what she was, and it wasn’t good.

She smiled wistfully thinking back over everything she had seen and known as a senshi and covered Navi’s hand on her shoulder. “ Do you know what the name Ate really means? Apparently it means folly and destruction…I am the reincarnation of a senshi who commands pollution. I am tainted and unhinged and I seek out ruin where ever I go. I need it and I want it.” She didn’t quite know what to say having only just put her thoughts into words. These twisted feelings into expression. She hoped Navi could sense her minor despair at not being able to articulate what she truly meant.

“When I….when I fought Virtus, I knew it was wrong but I also….I also adored the feeling it bought me, the power…I mean I didn’t enjoy beating HIM but the beating off him I mean….I think” She should have brought a shovel to help with this hole she was digging herself but Ate winced as she quickly added more in the hope that Navi could forgive the stumble.

“It showed me I don’t care who I hit or who I hurt. The pain, the feeling of control. I feed of this mayhem and I want more. I’ve always wanted more. Heh…I thought I had conquered my rebellious destructive side as a teenager, but now its stronger than ever and its who I am meant to be. I feel…I feel the Negaverse…they can help me. By letting me forget myself, these flimsy barriers I have put up, ripping them down and letting me reach my full potential. Sure I have done them harm but something calls to me when I am near them. Almost like I belong…”

She fought the shake Navi back, maybe that would succeed where her words failed to portray what she really wanted. Why couldn’t she just sleep with her and cause a dam good distraction from all these questions and painful answers. Of course she knew she cared for Navi too much and would easily lose her heart if she hadn’t already.

“I need to forget what the white court has forced me to become. It is not me…”

Her hands were shaking. Likely the rest of her too, but she was too numb to feel it at the moment, not with what Ate was telling her.

And the worst of it? It made sense. Ate hated the white moon, and what she did in the name of it. Hated it enough that she wanted to make all of it disappear. It truly made sense, and Navi couldn't find a single, none selfish, reason to dissuade her.

So why not be selfish? God, she wanted to.. Ate was he friend, and though their relationship was rocky, the thought of loosing her was, as always, heartbreaking. It was how she'd felt after she'd confronted Ate after the incident with Virtus, and it was how she felt now. Stronger, if possible.

She shook her head as the other girl asked if she was aware of what Ate meant, and only then did she drop her eyes to stare at the ground near their feet.

So she would allow the Negaverse to corrupt her, and in doing so she would loose those painful memories... all at once the Senshi of tumbleweeds had made up her mind, and almost angrily she swiped at the tears at her eyes and running slowly down her cheeks. "I won't let you forget me, Ate." Whatever she had to say, what ever had to be done, she would do it. She wasn't going to loose the dark haired senshi.

It wasn't entirely rational, but she leaned forward, catching the other girls' face, and captured those full, red lips in a long, lingering kiss.

It was perfect. The soft touch of her lips sent tingling shockwaves through her core and Ate couldn’t help but lean into it as gently as she could. This wasn’t a seedy kiss or one filled with lust. It was a kiss of friendship, a single innocent act that convinced Ate that Navi was true to her word. She would find her. Pulling apart she let her hand linger on Navi’s freckled cheek where it had come to rest in this sweet moment. Her eyes reflected pools of tears threatening to spill over and all that Ate could think to do was stroke that perfect check with her thumb and just pray. Pray that she would find her quickly when it happened and not to leave her alone without her.

“Heh, I will never forgive you if you let me forget you Navi…I wish I could make this more easy, leave a sign or a letter but I have no idea how things will pan out. I wish now…more than anything…that I knew who you really where.”

She pulled her hand back and smiled sadly at the thought. It was something that she never thought could happen. Even though theirs was a good friendship did it stretch as far as ultimate trust? If Navi revealed herself to Ate then she would know her civilian identity, could have even have met her before, could even hate her! It was a high price to pay that Ate could never ask Navi to perform. There was just too much at risk for the dark mirror senshi to jeopardize. How was she to know that this wasn’t all some wicked plan Ate had set up to catch her out. Of course it wasn’t anything of the sort and Ate had already considered powering down during this conversation but still…it was a secret she had never shared with anyone. Would Navi accept it and keep it safe?

“I don’t know what to do…” she whispered as she stroked the soft fabric of Navi’s long fuku pieces that only just covered her torso from exposure. She always wondered how she wasn’t freezing all the time but the girl hardly seemed fazed by the weather where the cold was all Ate could feel right now.

Back covered fingertips lingered on Ate's chin as she drew away from the kiss, and she attempted a soft smile, though the tears still glittering in her eyes might have spoiled the effect. Still, she leaned into the warmth of the other girl's hand against the pale curve of her cheek.

"Nor will I forgive you if I can't tear some shred of recognition from you when all is said and done." It was said sweetly, but there was no hint of joke in her tone to suggest she wasn't being serious. If she had to lose Ate, then she would cut the other girl from her life completely. There would be no midnight meetings, no watchful hazel eye. Navi would let them be the strangers Ate would believe them to be.

She couldn't deny that the desire to share her real name wasn't there as her friend suggested it. It was there, at the tip of her tongue, ready to roll out so there would be no chance of them parting for good, but Navi knew, just as Ate did, that she couldn't simply share something like that on a whim. Chaonis didn't have her name, Ate wouldn't either..

"You follow your heart, and you cling to any shred of memory you can that might help me find you." What else was their to do? Gone were the excuses and pleas for the other girl to join the ranks of the Dark Mirror rather then the Negaverse. Gone were the tears. Now was for simply sharing each others company, and when they parted ways at last, remembering that Navi refused to let Ate go without a fight.

And she would do. Follow it into the Negaverse, follow it into sweet acceptance and finally into chaotic war. This was what she wanted and she knew Navi could sense that, knew that even herself had accepted it that little bit more with her friend now knowing. She could almost feel giddy if she wasn’t losing someone she cared for in all this. But it had to be done. Tears rolling down her face freely now she tried to laugh them off as she brushed the wet streaks away with the back of her hand. Her top teeth bit into her lip as she fought back more signs of this weakness. More signs of her heart breaking over this girl.

“Heh...you know I could never forget your voice….or those cute freckles-” She brushed a strand of red that had fallen out of its place gently back behind her ear and felt her voice begin to break – “or your b-beautiful h-air…or your smi-le, or y-ou-r, or yo-ur-” In a rush of fluid movement she covered her face with her palms and howled into her black silk gloves, her beaten heart crying out. “OR YOUR FABULOUS a** OHGODAMGOINGTOMISSIT!!! UHH-UH-HUHUH-UHUH!!”

It wasn’t difficult to see that Ate was faking this bit with her award winning acting as she looked up and grinned out from the material knowing Navi would see it as a complete jest. It wasn’t that she found any of this funny but this scene was becoming too distressing to bear and she had to break the emotional train wreck one way or another. She needed to get out of here before she fell any further.

She smiled as Ate brushed a curl from her cheek, and pretended to believe the other girl wouldn't forget things so simple as freckles or hair. It was her friend's turn to cry new, and she watched as those crystal tears decorated het cheeks. Then she broke down into sobs, and for a moment Navi thought they were genuine, but then..

"Oh shut up!" Half gloved hands pushed at the other girls arm and side, and she rise swiftly to her feet. "You're such a brat." The tension that had stubbornly clung in the air around then had broken, and the dark mirror senshi was laughing as she offered a hand down to Ate.

Like her friend. Navi was seeking an escape before the humor left then and plunged the pair of them back into tears. If anything, this meeting should end on a happy note, not a sad one.

“Hahaha! Oh com’on! That bum is beautiful! How can I not be sad about losing that memory! Uhh, your such a cow sometimes Navi! Hahaha!”

Grabbing the offered hand like someone being pulled up from a cliff edge Ate spring to her feet and pulled Navi into another embrace. Her arms snaked around Navi’s neck and waist and drew her in close. Pressing every inch of herself against this girl she held onto this movement and wished it would last forever, whished to God she wouldn’t forget her. “Please…don’t let me forget her.”

She broke the hold with tender reluctance and brought her hands back to herself. Scared by how powerful her feelings were for this woman, her friend.

“Just don’t remind me that I loved you ok? I can’t have my heart broken twice in one life time…am just not that strong Navi...” She leaned in and kissed her once more on the cheek knowing this would be the last time she would touch, smell or see her friend and she felt the last brick fall into place on the wall around her heart.

“Goodbye Navi…”
