Yansa attacks Maya.

Yansa gripped her spear tightly in her hands, her face stern and concentrating. Maya had asked for a sparring partner, and Yansa was happy to oblige. Her voice was calm, "Are you ready sister?" She took one final breath before beginning.
She lunged at Maya, intending to strike hard. She had no intention of showing mercy with this match. Maya would only benefit from an intense battle. She would be sure to push Maya to becoming better and stronger.

Having gotten tired of trying to battle with her older sister Niebet who was much to hard on her for speed but failed to keep up a lasting battle the younger Alkidike Maya had sought out more opponents in hopes of increasing her ability to train. Her eyes were bright on the opponent in front of her.
Maya could feel the breath rush in and out of her lungs in a controlled pace. Once again she was facing Yansa, a revered Elder of her tribe, the sister who had allowed her the ability to ascend to a blade. The Alkidike squeezed the wood of her bow in her hands, eager for her opposite hand to spring towards her arrow and be the first to attack. It would put her in an advantage if she could strike first. Nodding her head as her eyes stared forward to meet Yansa's Maya swallowed hard her hands calm and relaxed at her side.
It was as if a mutual release had happened between the two Alkidikes, as both seemed to spring into action. Maya was slower than Yansa but smart enough to dodge to the side as the spear as it hurtled towards her. Pulling the arrow loose of the quiver at her belt Maya shifted and moved to strike the arrow heading back towards her opponent.

Yansa attacks Maya.
Yansa needs a 12 to hit.
Rolled: 4 (+6) = 10, miss
Yansa wasn't prepared for such a quick response to her attack as Maya had shown. Within moments Yansa was taken off guard from missing her mark and Maya had taken a shot at Yansa, landing near her shoulder. The pain was a sharp ache and it cost her some time.
Yansa had attempted to land a blow wih her spear yet again just as Maya's arrow hit her. The result was a changed trajectory of Yansa's spear and a missed attack. Yansa wasn't the type to get irritated with a small series of poor moments in the battle. This temporary set back, as she liked to think of it, would only allow for a more focused mindset during the rest of the skirmish. Now that Yansa knew not to underestimate Maya, things could proceed.

Maya Attacks Yansa
Maya needs 14 to hit
Rolled: 19 + 6 = 25 hit
Damage: (9 + 6)/2 = 7.5 to Yansa
Maya shivered as the next attack nearly struck, it has been so close to grazing her skin. Cheeks flushing with adrenalin Maya shifted course and pulled another arrow loose from the quiver. She knew better than to let her guard down around the great Elder, even if the lack of strikes seemed to pull her into a false security. She had to attack, and she had to hit hard if she wanted to prove she was worthy of her new status. Maya shrugged as she tried to resist the temptation to ask if she was alright, she would wait until after the fight to check on her. Until then she would have to act as if this were the real thing, as if her very life was in danger.
Flaring her nostrils as the arrow clicked against the wood of her bow Maya pulled it up, aiming once again for her opponent before the soft feathered end left the clutch of her fingers.

Yansa powers up!
Yansa was already coming in for her next attack when Maya let another arrow fly. She swung her body away from the arrow but it wasn't enough. The arrow grazed her side painfully. The wound wasn't deep, but Yansa couldn't afford to take many more hits.
She pushed herself back from Maya's position and focused her energy on her next attack.

(1 + 6) / 2 = 3.5 Damage
Maya blinked as the arrow narrowly claimed her opponent. Clenching her teeth together as she prepared for a counter strike that didn't come she swallowed hard against the building tension. A pause in the battle was always a bad thing. Pulling her arrow as quickly from her quiver as she could and aiming again at Yansa Maya felt herself stumble in the flustered emotions the pause.
"Not ready to give up are you?" Maya teased hoping to goad her opponent into another attach feeling the pit of her stomach sink in preparations her muscles tensing.

Yansa gripped her spear as she feigned an attack. She lunged her spear forward, but quickly reversed, goading Maya into countering. "A warrior does not give up, but measures their opponents strength patiently. Awating the perfect moment to strike." Yansa was calm and collected, preparing for the right time.
She would give Maya time to attack Yansa, time enough to feel out her weapon and her opponent. She could only say that she felt a touch of pride that Maya had done so well so far.

Limbs trembled as she prepared for the inevitable strike, ready to jump back at the final moments notice just in case she was able to trip up Yansa. The strike never came. Slightly confused Maya shifted her angle and pulled out another arrow from it's container. "Isn't it possible that to much patience could do the opposite effect and lead to ones demise?"
The arrow fit against her bow perfectly, raising it to take aim it she listened as the twang of the bowstring signaled yet another release of the arrow towards her opponent again. She couldn't help feeling the quicker she ended the battle the better it would be for everyone.

It seemed at that point that Yansa was playing a game with Maya. The attacks from Maya kept coming but Yansa was patienly waiting her turn. The attacks she did make were weak and testing Maya more than trying to end the battle. Shortly this would change. Eventually a decisive blow would be struck, though it was still yet to be seen from whom that ending strike would come from.
Yansa patiently answered Maya's question. "A skilled warrior knows where that point lies and strikes when the opportunity is right." Yansa gracefully avoided Maya's attack and baited Maya with another weak strike. Their battle was turning into a dance. The sides of Yansa's mouth curled up in a smile. Yansa had been right that Maya was ready to be a blade, though there was much for her sister to learn.

Maya watched as the arrow soared clean passed Yansa cutting a branch clean from the tree. Sucking in a breath of air as she snapped her gaze back towards Yansa to late to fully dodge the attack that followed as the tip of her weapon grazed over her shoulder.
"I guess so." It was clear now that Yansa was trying to bait her and Maya didn't like to be taunted much. She was a bit hot headed when it came to teasing and easily fell into the entrapment. Dyakida had done it all her life and Maya had always fallen for them. Biting the inside of her lip as she fit another arrow into her bow and released the arrow missed her target again as the pain stung her shoulder

Yansa could see Maya weakening; her breath was sharp from the ache in her shoulder and Yansa could see the anger in Maya's eyes. Yansa took the opportunity and lunged forward, bringing her spear quickly in to make contact with Maya's side.
The attack would be fairly weak, but Yansa knew that she could draw the battle further and push Maya harder.

Maya clenched her teeth as another sting raced across her skin from the strike her eyes seemed to blaze as she moved to strike back. Her temper was currently getting the better of her and try as she might she was unable to swallow her rage and think rationally. The young blade did not like to be toyed with by anyone for long including her closest friends. Even worse she hated to loose in a way that would make her seem inferior to anyone else.
A free hand momentarily darted to her scrapped side checking how quickly the blood seemed to flow before moving on to pull out her arrow in a form of counter attacking and possibly pushing Yansa back.
