In between classes, were always a great time to just hang out and waste time with friends right?
Not for the case of Melinda, as she was once again just hanging out in the lounge of her floor, working on homework. The never ending process of homework, while waiting for her next class to start in two hours. Looking over her American Literature assignment, she found herself wishing the next class would start up soon. Not that she wasn't bias, but she did love her History of Music class. So she really couldn't complain too much.
Pushing her now curly sandy brown hair from her face, she found herself more distracted by everyone around her. Lifting her hands above her head, she chews on her bottom lip before finally closing up her text books. She wasn't going to get it done, and beside it wasn't due until her next class, so really she had time.
Flipping her messenger bag open, she pulls out her cell to look over her text messages. She was actually surprised she hadn't heard from Devlin in the pass two days. With a shrug, she pulls out a couple of music sheet looking them over. As she does this, she was slowly tapping out a beat in hopes of trying to figure out if she could get this one part right when she plays it with her flute.

"That's bullshit and you know it-- oh don't give me that crap." Male laughter mixed with a slew of curses from inside one of the dorm rooms as the door opened, the noise spilling out into the hall as one of the temporary occupants stepped out. Devlin himself still resided with his family in the city, but that didn't keep him from visiting a few of his friends who'd taken up residence in DCU's halls.
A wad of paper was chucked at his head he easily sidestepped. "Screw you. Go do that film crit paper. Lemme do mine already." Pale eyes rolled to that, before drifting after a few girls who passed him in the hall to head towards their own room. So many bonuses to living on a co-ed floor... "Dude, hey." Sam was snapping his fingers, drawing Devlin's attention back only vaguely in the form of a brief flicker of his eyes back towards the other guy. "I can tell ya flat they've both got boyfriends. Go be a creep elsewhere."
"This from the guy who actually keeps his ear to the wall enough to find out they've got boyfriends." The two girls had clearly heard their exchange--or at least his part, he wasn't exactly being quite--and gave him less than approving looks before vanishing into their room down the hall. Sam was voicing his complaints about his lack of volume control. Smacking his palms against the door frame, Devlin leaned in slightly to give his friend a wicked grin. "Ah chill. You're too deep in your homework to get laid anyways. See ya." That had him followed by a whole new ring of swears and complaints, ones that were swiftly silenced by him shutting the door on his way out.
Jacket was already on, wallet in his pocket, phone soon in his hand... he glanced at the paper on the floor but made no move to pick it up as he walked on by. Probably should do that assignment soon... relatively soon...
His boot clad feet carried him somewhat noisily through the lounge of the floor, eyes moving casually over the various pieces of furniture, the people that moved in and out of rooms and stairwells. Too expensive for him to come here himself, was debating if that was a shame or not--
"That beat actually supposed to be a song or do you just suck with drums?" He had no idea who the dirty-blonde girl was. All he knew was that her tapping was sort of annoying. His pace slowed slightly, actually giving him the quick second to look her over. Because why not? Only for her facial features to click in his head, brow rising as his eyes widened for a split second.

Melinda frowns as she glance up, ready to snap at the person talking rude to her, until she realized she was staring at Devlin. With a smile, she stops her fingers as she push her curls from her hair "Hey Devlin." standing she slips the music sheet back into her her bag before she moves towards him "And I do suck at the drums, but you should stick around to here me play the flute. That piece I was tapping meant to be played as such." glancing down the hall as she heard a couple more hoots and screams, she chuckles before looking back at him.
"Guess I should have warn you about my the new change in hair style." leaning against the back of the couch, she plays with the hem of her long sleeve dark green top for a moment "So I didn't know you went to this campus. You should have told me, we could have hung out more." with a smirk, she pushed herself away from the couch for a moment as she walks up to him "Which hall do you live in?"
To her, it meant another person she could hang out with beside her roommate. It also meant she could come bug him when she wasn't sure what to do in a video game.

Why was she a brunette? Not that this was a big bad thing, but... why was she a brunette? Devlin was having a hard time adjusting to this, clearly evident by how his brow wrinkled and eyes narrowed uncomfortably as he stared at her. The face and eyes were Melinda, sure, but gone was the blonde and straight locks he was generally used to. Maybe he should have tried asking her out for coffee or something sooner. Admitingly, he'd been spending more time talking to her over text than face-to-face than he likely... should have been.
But until now that hadn't struck him as a bad thing.
Shoving his cell into his pocket, his eyes lingered on her longer than they had for Sam. Even if he did still continue to glance around the room. At her stuff. At the people around them. Her hair. No seriously why brunette. Back to her eyes. The corner of his mouth pulled upward a bit. "Well at least you admit that you suck at it. Never mentioned you played the flute." There were many jokes and comments he could make to that. He held back for the time being at least. "When are you going to be performing?" Were recordings allowed wherever she'll be playing? He'd like to get a few shots of that. Might actually keep the audio if she was good enough.
The commotion down the hall dragged his attention away for a moment, but when it came back he only glared a little to her. "So which are you really? Blonde or brunette?" He wasn't sure which he preferred. But his unease about the change was slipping away quickly enough. Just a bit jarring in how different it all was.
Devlin winced a little, shaking his head. "The hall of parental units." Shoulders bobbed up and down. "Was just visiting a buddy of mine who's just down the hall. Don't actually stay here myself." He didn't bother mentioning how it was too expensive. "But I do take classes here, if that counts for anything. Usually around Monday through Thursday. You?"
Quote: EDIT: 04.05.2019 -- given the passage of time, I've edited in a small wrap up to this Rp below here to be able to mark this as finished. Though another post was made after this one, I've chosen to not post again due to not feeling remotely comfortable pulling this Rp up to the front of the guild again. It was weird to encounter her here, right? Devlin was sure, if Sam were over here, he'd be cracking jokes on fated meetings and the like. All that sappy s**t. But it wasn't bad that she was here. If they could catch up after classes, hang out and s**t... hey, all was good, right?
It at least gave him something to look forward to outside the dull courses.
Before he left, he double-checked her info on his phone was accurate, and promised to send her a text next time he was on campus. Something to look forward to. Something to smile about. He needed more s**t like that.

Melinda tugs on a couple of her curls before she looks up at Devlin "I'm actually a sandy brown, I just dye my hair blond once in awhile. With college, I decided to try a darker color, just to see how much I will like it. I might go back to blond later, not really sure yet." she honestly felt bad that she hadn't told him, but it did slip her mind that all they did was chat through text messages.
It was as if she could read his mind, her eyes narrow on him as she smirks "No this one time at band camp jokes, I've probably heard them all." she paused as he asked about performing, only to turn a darker shade then normal "I have a piece I have to do in front of my class for finals. My own personal piece I am composing, but that's not until two days before break." she couldn't help but wonder if he was asking so he could pick on her afterwards.
Turning her head, she points to the door that was actually two doors down on the other side of the hall from where he came from "That my room, I share with someone I met back at the academy. She a sweet girl, and I love her dog to death." now that she actually got to know him.
"I have classes from Tuesday to Friday, mostly morning except my musician class. Its about mid afternoon." she wasn't sure what she wanted him to know that last bit of info, maybe so he would come around more often?
With a shrug, she goes back to leaning on the back of the couch "So was that you and one of my neighbors making all that noise before you said I suck at drumming?" yes, she was teasing him.
