Dragon didn't like the cold very much. When it got cold at his home on the ranch, his owner would move the cage into the shed. It was dark and the spiders weren't the nicest of company but it was nice and warm. He was on lookout on the top of the down, looking over its slopes. At the edge, there was a small run where the kittens of the warren liked to play most.
He paused and lifted his head. For a long time, he remained like that, eyes peering a long way out into the grasses near the run. He knew he saw color, black and white, but he wasn't sure if it was a rabbit, a skunk, a lendri or something else horrible. Because it was so close to the kittens, he didn't doubt it was elil.
He remained calm, knowing not to frighten marli or their babes. As he approached, the grasses beside the thing moved a bit and Dragon picked up the pace. If it was elil, he would rather it strike him first. Finally, he broke into a run, giving a long, low growl and leaping through the grasses. Thankfully he was pretty good at stopping because he came nose to nose with a tiny kitten, about an inch away from flattening him. He unbared his teeth and his light grey eyes just stared into those big blue ones.
