Name: Kodi
Age: 15
Gender: Female
Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual
Craft/Rank: Apprentice Woodcrafter {Paper}
Description: Warm brown eyes, average in height, with long milk chocolate hair usually worn in a braid, Kodi is small and willowy in build, showing clear signs of being from a family that did not feast quite like a Weyr did. She is not the strongest of people, but she has the beginnings of a toned body forming from all her hard work in her craft. Even at a young age, Kodi's hands have a few calluses and scars with a more prominent scar along her shoulder. She tends to hide this under her clothing, a healed injury from working with dangerous tools and being a little careless. Because of this scar, she typically wears long sleeved shirts in light colors (so she does not get too warm) and something like a cami under neath. Always in pants, rarely in skirts - skirts make it difficult to maneuver around work areas - and when not mixing batches for her paper, Kodi can be found in sandals.
Personality:
Kodi is exceptionally shy when she meets a new person, coming across as timid and not very confident in herself. But anyone that knows her well or has been for a prolonged period of time know this is not true. She is a very sweet and energetic individual. Who just has difficulty warming up to someone she just met. Or rather more like she takes a while to determine how she should treat that person. However once her mind is made up, Kodi is all smiles and playful laughter!
On the downside of how she seems when meeting someone new, Kodi can also have a bad habit of judging someone by her first impression of them. She's got a bit of stubbornness to her, and it's not easy to change her view of you once she's decided upon it. Part of this could be due to the fear she feels at letting someone get really close to her - family aside of course. If you do happen to make a bad impression, you're not completely out of luck. She will change her mind about you if given a good enough reason (aka: 'proof') that you really aren't how you first appeared. The exceptions to this are those who have bonded with a wher. They downright terrify her after the Uprising.
She is stubborn. If she makes up her mind on anything, she will stick to it until proven wrong. Which happens eight out of ten times anyways. Especially where her brother is involved. Her stubborn will also applies to her work, being ready to tackle a difficult night by telling herself she obviously can. Which makes her determined to do what she said she could. She's also very prideful of being able to get her work done in a timely manner. She works hard to make the best quality paper she is capable of at her age. Getting it to turn out nicely or something her family could sell only encouraged her to work that much harder the next time! In addition, should you wind up in an argument with her, better have valid points to back yourself up! Kodi won't back down otherwise. Unless it turns physical. Then it's a whole different story.
Kodi has a bad habit of believing most things she hears (unless she knows it's wrong). She's fairly gullible and tends to fall for some of the most ludicrous stories people tell. If she feels there may be something off about the story, she usually turns to someone she trusts to tell her things straight. Not make up pieces here and there just to make the story sound better. But this, unfortunately, doesn't happen as often as she would like. It also makes it hard for Kodi to put all her trust and faith in someone she doesn't know super well.
When all's said and done, there is one thing for sure that anyone could tell you about Kodi. And that's that she is a sweet girl with a generous amount of energy. She won't bounce off the walls, but Kodi is just a generally spunky girl that loves feeling light hearted and happy. Especially when she's done a good job at helping her family out, making them proud. She's not vain, though, and doesn't seek out this sort of attention. She just likes it when she does feel that way. It's very rare that you won't find Kodi without a smile on her face.
Likes: Reading in her free time. Hanging with her brother. Sweet fruits. Looking over other papermaker's work. Collecting rare sheafs of paper.
Dislikes: Whers (they terrify her). Dark places. Someone else finishing a job she started.
History:
Kodi and her brother, Vinar, were the only two offspring to be spawned from their parents. Kovina was a hard working weaver that helped manage a small shop in Atlini Hold, where she met her husband, Dorelle. He was only a buddy journeyman woodcrafter in need of having some of his clothing repaired. And then he continued to appear in the little shop, flirting with Kovina and taking her out on dates until Dorelle finally proposed. And a couple turns later, Vinar was born.
When Kodi came a few turns later, Kovina almost died during childbirth. She was warned not to have any more children, or she might not make it through another birth. Kovina was depressed, but watching Kodi and Vinar grow and, even at a young age, try to be hard workers made their mother proud. And Kodi found she very much enjoyed being able to accomplish this! She found her calling in the woodcraft, like her father, making paper. It was fascinating being able to take something like the wood of a tree, leaves of a flower, and petals that still held their pleasant scents, then ground them up to create sheaf's of paper. It was tedious work, and a good portion of the time she fudged up and had to toss the paper out. Her brother was right there with her, supporting and encouraging her to try again each time, making them grow closer.
Her brother was her best and closest friend. They did everything together from picking out ingredients for the next batch of paper to causing trouble like any typical couple of young kids. Which, unsurprisingly, was how they stumbled across a rider and his Black visiting the Hold. The two had been 'running errands' (aka: running around the Hold on some big adventure~) when Vinar, quite literally, smacked into the rider. It was the most exciting thing to happen to them for a few days! The rider himself - who introduced himself as C'lat - thought the pair was amusing as hell. He let them take him on a tour of the Hold, spending the afternoon with the siblings before introducing them to his dragon.
Exciting thing number two to happen: The Black informed His that Kodi could potentially be one of them. A rider. That she had something similar to what drew him to his C'lat. Which made C'lat laugh and tell the kids what his bonded had said. Kodi didn't know what to say, she was in such shock. Thankfully Vinar was there and managed to remind his sister that they should prooobably talk it over with their parents first. Which was exactly what they did. C'lat accompanying them of course.
A little wary, her father questioned C'lat hard. Especially in the wake of the Uprising that had occurred. Did he really want to allow his daughter to go to such a dangerous place? Kovina was a little more willing to allow Kodi to go, if her daughter chose. And she did want to go! Very much so. To make not only her parents proud, but Vinar too. Though she felt a bit uncertain, since Vinar would not be there with her. Still... as C'lat had assured her, if she didn't Impress, she could return home. So, after a little more talking and reassuring, Kodi packed her bags and when C'lat returned to the Weyr, he brought the young girl with him.
