There was one thing that, as a baker, Ofelia had yet to try making on her own and those were peppermint candies. In fact it was safe to say she hadn't tried to make many candies at all, instead sticking to things that were easy and most often had batters, but since she had nothing better to do and wanted to try her hand at making something that ran a risk of giving her a bad burn, she set her sights on the peppermints. Various websites gave her an idea of cream cheese mints, which sounded easy and entirely too full of sugar, and so trying to make hard candies was it.
Ofelia didn't even like hard candies but a baker could not afford to be super picky, not if she wanted to make things for everyone to enjoy, and so the teen set about getting items together. She needed to make a few trips here and there before actually heading into the kitchen and so a list was made to let her know what all she really should have in order to make things run smoothly. Her writing was crap, anyone who wasn't Ofelia likely couldn't tell what was on it, but thankfully she wrote her name in big bold letters across the top before starting out into the world.
She was even halfway into her errands before she dropped and lost the list.Prolixity super sorry for taking so long to set this up ;;;

Tia Rosa's handwriting had, at best, resembled the scrawls that doctors made on prescription pads. Jordan had learned to puzzle out grocery lists that looked like abstract art; he recognized an ingredient list when he saw one. However, the scrap of paper he picked off the ground was totally illegible except for the name written bold and clear across the top. Apparently, he mused, his ability to decipher his aunt's lists had been the product of familiarity rather than any kind of ability to decode the language of scrawl. He checked the kitchen first. No Ofie. Then the cafeteria and the training grounds. Still no sign of her. Well ... that was what phones were for. He dug his out and sent a quick text. Rown Text to Ofie: I think you may have lost a shopping list. It looks like a shopping list, anyway.

Ofelia was busy trying to argue down the price of something with the quartermaster, her method of argument being threaten angrily because he is being a cheap a*****e, when she felt her phone buzz in her back pocket. She ignored it at first, hellbent on getting her way, but when it stopped she figured it must have been a text and she pulled her phone out to see who it was. When the number that came up happened to be Jordan of all people she nearly dropped her phone to the ground.
It took quick thinking to catch it and actually read what it said, and she typed out a response quickly. She tried not to act like this was a shock (albeit a pleasant one).Quote: Text to Jordan what note i didnt drop my note She read it again, he said shopping list, and the redhead felt into her pockets to check and see if her list was there. It was indeed gone, Jordan had indeed found it, and now she'd need to confront him with all kinds of awesome to get it back. Hopefully he didn't read what was on there, it was somewhat embarrassing.
Another text was sent out, and Ofelia left behind the quartermaster who was fuming over how she suddenly stopped yelling and wandered off.Prolixity Text to Jordan okay yeah its mine where are you i will come get it

Rown Text to Ofie: Cafeteria - I'll wait for you. He was about halfway between the training field and the main complex, actually, but the cafeteria was a good meeting place, and he could grab a cup of coffee while he was waiting. His bloodstream felt like it had a little too much blood in it at the moment.

Quote: Text to Jordan on my way okay see you there okay Ofelia hadn't really seen Jordan since the Rue-incident, something she didn't look back on too fondly, and now she hustled into the cafeteria - a place she also wasn't overly fond of due to how much blood she had to clean up. Still it was a chance to meet Jordan, to get to talk with him again, and so she found herself almost skipping to get there.
In fact she was skipping, nearly knocking some people over in the process, and as the teen rounded the corner she remembered that they weren't really on the best of terms again (well, she adored Jordan but that was clearly one-sided) and so her pace stopped and she ended up skidding.
Right into the door panel.
With her face.
If it hadn't been for Rue and the faint shield she was giving off the teen would have hurt herself. Instead she just had to settle for being an idiot was walks into doors.

There was a thump from the doorway. Jordan looked up from the coffee urn with a slight sinking feeling. Yep. That had been Ofie. He put the cup down and moved over to offer her a hand up. "You okay?" Rown thank you for being patient with meeeeee

Ofelia looked to see who was there offering help, it was Jordan (as she thought) and unlike the last time she'd fallen she actually accepted his hand down. She took it with a strong grip and used him to help herself back up, a dorky grin spreading on her face. "Looks like mah depth perception's a bit off taday. Usually Ah pay 'nough attention not ta walk inta things an' can ferget Ah'm missin' an eye, but sometimes not so much."
Truth be told over a decade without an eye had given her some edge on depth perception, or at least whenever she used Rue it was never a problem, but maybe the fact she'd been super excited to come and see Jordan had something to do with her walking into the panel. When one didn't watch where one was going, one often turned into Ofelia and totally busted themselves up. It was no surprise people oft thought her clumsy.
After getting settled back standing up, Ofelia dusted her hands off on her pants. "So ya found mah list? Ah didn' even know Ah'd dropped it till ya messaged me, thanks so much."

"Those doors are sneaky," Jordan said solemnly. "They just jump right out at you. Major hazard." He smiled back, pleased to see her smiling and not tense and jumpy like the last time they'd talked. He took the list out of his pocket. "Here it is, safe and sound. Looks like a grocery list?" he inquired curiously. "I mean, I couldn't read it, but it looks like the grocery lists my aunt used to give me."

Ofelia took the list with a total look of gratitude, and she did sort of cackle-giggle over the joke about the door. "That'd be really scary if somehow all doors could gain sentience. Imagine the trouble that'd cause." The list was looked over once more, and she nodded somewhat.
"S'not really a grocery list per say, seein' as portals are down an' we can' get anywhere, but more like a task list? Ah'm tryin' ta learn ta write stuff down so Ah dun ferget but then Ah went an' lost it. Thanks 'gain so much fer findin' it fer me." A pen was pulled out of her pocket, uncapped with her teeth, and she help the top between her teeth as she glanced it over. A faint mumbling escaped as she read down the horrible writing, making things off as she went.
1. Try and buy a swimsuit
- This was left unchecked because, well, Jordan had caught her and called her before she could properly argue with the quartermaster enough to get him to show her the supplies.
2. Laundry
- Having few clothes had made that finished quickly
3. dsjkfhfyefsdfgsd ?????
- Yeah, it was bad when she couldn't read her own writing, so she left it unchecked.
4. Profit (on the peppermints)
"Ah was actually headin' ta the kitchen after grabbin' this from ya, are ya hungry at all?"

"Sure. Are you cooking? Let me just get my coffee," Jordan said, and went to retrieve the mug. It was cafeteria coffee, but he still wasn't going to waste it. He returned with his cup a moment later. "Anything I can help with? I've got a good hour free."

"Actually Ah was thinkin' of tryin' ta make some sweets. Ah've been cravin' sweet stuff lately since we got our weapons back - Ah really dun have much'a sweet tooth personally but Ah think Rue might. Ah wonder if it's normal ta crave sommin' yer weapon normally does - or is that even possible? Maybe Ah'm jus' imaginin' things." She rubbed the back of her head at the mention of Rue, wanting to stay as far away from that train as possible. So she didn't mention it at all again and instead was about to say something else when Jordan vanished to get coffee.
Ofelia didn't drink coffee which was probably the best for all of Deus that she didn't. Ofelia, caffeinated? The world would end.
"Um....ya can jus' help mix an' stuff? Maybe we can try an' make peppermints - the soft kind that ya can shape. It'd by funny ta make little peppermint statues'a everyone." Not that...she thought it was a cute idea and was planning on doing it anyway.

"Well, Ferros says he misses eating metal and coal, but I'm not about to try that," Jordan answered dryly. He fell into step with Ofelia. "I'd be happy to give you a hand with the stirring. Just give me instructions. I've never been too good at cooking, but I follow directions like a pro."

"Helpin' hands are the best hands. Com'on." The two were at the kitchen sooner than she thought, mostly because it was connected to the cafeteria by a certain degree, and the teen started to pull her hair up into a ponytail/bun. It was getting longer and longer, the amount already ridiculous, and inwardly Ofelia wondered if it was time to get a trim. As a few bangs fell into her face and she blew them upward the idea was somewhat cemented.
For now.
"Um...lesse....we're gonna need some cream cheese an' some powdered sugar for this first part. Can ya look 'round an' see where Ah hid 'em? Can't really remember on the sugar, but the cream cheese should be behind that nasty olive stuff no one likes eatin'." Ofelia had long since mastered the art of hiding her food supplies, seeing as she didn't think to buy her own fridge (she was saving for something else, after all), and with portals down learning how to keep things hidden was all the more dire. She was really, really good at it, and the teen finished that bit of instruction and went on to look for the cook wear. Two bowls, spoons, red food dye. . . maybe green too? What colors were good colors?
Ofelia liked brown =/

"Cream cheese and powdered sugar, check." Jordan opened the refrigerator and checked behind the jar of olive stuff. Sure enough. "Good hiding spot. Why do we even have that stuff? I've never seen anyone use any of it." He put the cream cheese on the counter and started opening cabinets, moving jars and boxes aside to look for the sugar. "Regular sugar won't work for this?"

"An' we need butter too - what? Ah no, regular sugar will jus' clump it up an' make it crunchy. Powdered sugar is generally absorbed better so ya dun have ta worry 'bout granular spots on yer mints." Ofelia was digging through the fridge for some butter, which she promptly found and pulled out, and she turned back to Jordan on his question. "Also powdered sugar is a little bit sweeter? Ah've used regular sugar once, the first time Ah made these, an' let's jus' say it was nastier than like...sommin' Julie sometimes made fer us ta eat." She paused. "Minus whatever she made turnin' inta a monster."
Talking about Julie might have been a mistake, though if Jordan happened to look close near a stack of cookbooks that said 'Ofelia' in front of them he'd happen to notice one that had a certain former moon division assistant's flair. And handwriting.Prolixity in case you're curious and want to make these sometime, here is the recipe! so good
