Adi was a little bummed, which was more than a little out of the ordinary for her. She'd finally managed to convince Mazamath to participate in a Flight, and he hadn't won. Which would have been fine (although it was too bad, because it was a crimson and there might be babies, and they could have been their dragonbabies!), except he'd decided that he hadn't liked it very much and would rather not waste more energy on further such endeavors. The ratio of effort to reward was simply not worth it, to his mind.

And then this morning, Benden's little Queen had Risen, and between the lost crimson Flight and the inevitable effects of a gold flight, well, suffice to say that Adi was frustrated. To put it politely. Of course, she was in a Weyr full of people, so in theory, this should not a difficult problem to solve. In practice, though, she kind of wanted to find someone she already knew, a friend or wingmate or someone. Or at the very least, someone nice! Someone fun! Or maybe just any company at all, not necessarily that kind of company. Anyone but her lazy, spoil-sport dragon who didn't want to Fly pretty girl dragons! (Not that she was really mad at him, that was impossible, but she could pout at him.)

The young bluerider turned away from the dragon napping in his wallow to set off in search of a friend, whether it was one she had met before or not.

If Adi had intended to find a young man with a basket of pastries, she had certainly succeeded. He had slipped away quickly after the queen flight, gone for a swim in the cool morning (that'd been a mistake, it'd taken over a candlemark to dry his hair). He hadn't been expecting to see anyone else there, on the shores. He'd figured everyone would be busy with their--reactions to the gold flight?

Still, tearing his eyes reluctantly from his half eaten pastry, he waved. "Hello," he called, flashing a smile in Adi's direction. Still wet from his swim, and sand sticking to his half dried tunic, he may not have been a sight for sore eyes.

"You can come sit with me, if you like," he invited. He'd share his spot, but not his pastries!

The possibility of encountering a wet young man with food had, in fact, not crossed Adi's mind at all, but maybe it should have. What could be better, after all? He may not have been the very handsomest young man she'd ever seen, and he might be a turn or so younger than her, but he had food. And there had been a goldflight. And he had food.

The food was a very important part of this picture.

She perked up immediately, and all but skipped over at his invitation to sit with him. As she bounced into place, she responded brightly, "Hi! I'm Adi!"

"Are those pastries?" She'd been pretty distracted so far today, and hadn't had a chance to eat anything yet, so now that she saw food, she was really pretty hungry!

"Hi Adi, I'm T'rel," T'rel beamed at the thought of company. He paused, and seemed to hesitate at her next question. "Yes," he said finally. "They're pastries, and they're mine." Another pause, and the man seemed to regret his selfishness. He took a pastry out of his basket and offered it to her. "Here," he said. "Have one."

"Did you see the goldflight?" he asked. "Did you see who won?" Maybe she had paid more attention than he had. He fell silent, attention veering back to his half eaten pastry. He finished it off quickly, pulling out another. He didn't offer Adi a second one. It didn't seem like he was going to, either.

"It's nice to meet you." When he beamed, so did she. Smiles were contagious! For Adi, anyway, and she was happy that he seemed happy and friendly. And had food, although it sounded for a moment like maybe he was going to be selfish and not share, which would have been sad. She quickly proved to be wrong about that, however, and her smile grew even wider, dimpling her cheeks and crinkling the corners of her eyes.

"Thank you~!" She accepted the pastry with enthusiasm and wasted no time in setting into it, making small sounds of happiness and only pausing to answer. "I did! It was Calanoth. He's my wingleader's dragon."

And that made her very proud! She'd have to congratulate the pair later, when they weren't...busy. She had caught a glimpse of Z'fer - a very nice one, as a matter of fact - but he had obviously been on his way somewhere.

"Oh, Calanoth." The name didn't sound familar. Which Weyr had they come from? Trine? "You'll have to congratulate them for me," he said, awkwardly. It was terribly confusing, trying to keep up with who came from where. There was a silence, in which he took a bite of his pastry, eyes veering from Adi, and then back.

"Do you have a craft?" he asked, attempting to stir up conversation. "I'm from the harperhall myself. Was Searched when I was seventeen turns old." Why was this so difficult? He'd never had difficulty carrying a conversation before. He swept a hand through his hair, studying Adi.

"You're not getting another one. Just so you're aware."

"Nope! 'm a weyrbrat," she provided, swallowing the last bit of pastry and licking her fingers. "I thought about Farmcraft in case I ever aged out, 'cause I like plants so much, but I got Maz, so that didn't happen."

Adi studied the Harper in turn, sucking on the tip of her index finger to get a tiny piece of pastry out from under her nail. Searched when he was seventeen, huh? She'd've pegged him as being a little younger than that, if she'd had to guess, but she'd never been terribly good at such guesses. "What's your specialty?"

The apparent non sequitur of No More Pastries took her by surprise, and she blinked at him. "Oh." Disappointment was clear, but so was the effort to fight it off. "That's okay. I can go get some later."
PostPosted: Sat Nov 10, 2012 6:39 pm

"Farmcraft, hm?" T'rel smiled at her. "It's a good skill to have, knowing your plants. Me..." He paused, shaking his head. "It's enough that I know the difference between numb weed and redfruit." There was another pause, in which he seemed to consider her question. "Strings," he said at last. "I was decent at playing pipes, but guitar was always on my mind." He flashed her a smile. "I couldn't go a sevenday without playing it. Once I played so long trying to learn a new song, by the time I gave up, my fingers were swollen."

He felt guilty when he noticed the look of disapointment on Adi's face. Maybe he would share, after all. Sharing was a step closer to friendship, afterall--and T'rel was fond of making friends. "Maybe I'll give you another one later," he said. "Maybe."

"Those are good things to know the difference between," Adi noted with a little giggle. No one wanted a numb mouth, after all, unless maybe they had a toothache, and even then, it would probably taste pretty bad. While she was curious about many things, the effects of eating numbweed were not among the things she wished to experience.

"Wow." She looked at her own fingers, wiggling them. "Didn't that hurt?"

At his change of heart in the matter of pastry-sharing, she brightened once more, and leaned over to give him a quick, light hug. Hooray, food! And touchy-feely blueriders after a goldflight. "I'd like that."

"Indeed. It would be rather difficult to sing with a numb mouth." T'rel smirked, and then attempted to demonstrate by sticking out his tongue. "Like thith?" he offered. He shook his head before adding, "It'd probably end up being painful, eventually. Biting one's tongue is an often happening on its own. But with a numb mouth!" He chuckled.

"Oh, yes!" T'rel agreed quickly, flexing his fingers at the memory. "I wasn't able to play for a sevenday, but soon the swellings became caluses, and I didn't feel them as much." He paused, hesitating for a moment before returning his hug. He grasped onto her hand. "And I like your company. So maybe we'll both end up with what we want. "

When he stuck out his tongue, Adi was very tempted to pinch it - that was just what you did with stuck-out tongues! - but sadly, the opportunity was gone before she could act on it. Which may have been just as well, because most people would probably not approve of relative strangers grabbing their tongues. Adi being Adi, however, had already classified this excellent, pastry-sharing Harper as a friend, so she wasn't worried. If he did it again, she would be ready!

"It would be hard to do a lot of things with a numb mouth," she agreed, giggling at her own innuendo.

And then he hugged her back, and that was nice...and held her hand, which was very nice! Since he was clearly receptive to such things, she responded by snuggling right up to him. "You don't have to give me pastries. But I never say no to pastries."

"Indeed," T'rel agreed, having missed the innuendo. Many things like that tended to go over his head. He, like Adi, already considered her a friend. T'rel rarely met anyone he did not consider a friend within a candlemark. He smirked at her. "Maybe I want to," he said, handing her another pastry as he slinked the hand that had previously been holding her had around her waist.

He normally wasn't so forward. This was certainly out of character for the former harper. "There!" he said. "That's your last one. No more. The rest are mine." Even if she was nice, and she liked pastries--maybe... Maybe she was acting like he didn't have to give her his pastries so he would end up giving her more pastries and then--well...He wasn't sure what would happen then.

Now she was torn. She had another pastry, but there was also a hand around her waist. There was potential there that she didn't want to ruin by scarfing down a pastry, even if they were very delicious pastries and she was still hungry. She was also other things. The question was, which was more important right this moment?

"I think I'll save it for later," she decided, kissing his cheek and tucking the pastry back into the safety of the basket. No one wanted ground-pastry, after all. "If that's okay? I don't want to use up all my pastries at once."
PostPosted: Mon Nov 12, 2012 9:06 pm

"Save it for later?" T'rel echoed, blinking. "Alright," he agreed with a nod, perplexed at her behavior. She had said she never said no to pastries, and then she had partially refused! Were all females so confusing? "Right," he agreed, awkwardly as she kissed his cheek. She was pretty--and she was...this was awkward.

"Uh. So. Do you have any hobbies?" Maybe he could distract her from whatever she was planning. He didn't release her waist, or make any move that he was going too, but he did flash her an uncomfortable expression.

What was he supposed to do?

If Adi had been privy to such thoughts, she would have clarified that she hadn't refused, merely put off the inevitable stuff-face-with-pastry for later. Of course, she would also have pointed out that it was boys who were confusing. He had given her pastries, held her hand, put his arm around her waist and not objected to her snuggling. Cheek-kissing was the next step in this natural progression of events!

"Ummm." She was flummoxed. Flummoxed! Not by the question, though, that was easy, but by how to proceed. She thought hard on this while she answered. "Well, I like flowers. And exploring, and games, and, um. Lots of things." Maybe she just wasn't being obvious enough and he was trying to give her the benefit of the doubt.

So she kissed him again, but on the lips instead this time.
