It was mid-lateish afternoon, the sun still giving plenty of light but the heat of the day passing and just a hint of orange as the great fiery orb sank toward the horizon. Barefoot and wearing a shirt with the sleeve torn off Carltis padded quietly along the strand, enjoying the feel of warm sand between his toes. Trine was pretty nice really, once you got away from all the damn people. It was exotic, the place practically sang with life and... yeah, it was alright. It didn't have the majesty of Malvren's marble halls but he wasn't sure that, in time, he might not come to like it better here. Wild and lawless....

Hello.

Carltis squinted, raised a hand to shade his eyes and shifted the leather satchel over his shoulder with the other hand. That was definitely a big chunky green that had just waded out of the water up ahead; Berath. Well, the dragon was decent enough so he saw no reason to change course. Maybe if he asked nicely she'd even take him somewhere a bit secluded so that he could practice his harp (within the satchel, within its box) in peace. At that point he didn't notice the human figure waiting for her on the sand.

-------------------

Berath plodded out of the lake, water streaming off her scarred and faded hide. she crooned to Aleck. She could do with a good oiling on top of the scrubbing, but she didn't want to push HerHatchling too hard; he had enough difficulty to deal with at the moment without her adding to his troubles.

Some things had to be done whether you were able or not.

Thank goodness for family.

Aleck stood up to meet the dragon as she rose dripping from the self-created surf, unfolding his lanky form. Shirt off and pants rolled up to his knees he was a less-than-impressive figure of masculinity compared to the real riders wandering all over the place. Aleck would be the first to admit he was an introvert (actually, he'd be about the seventy-seventh to admit it) and while people weren't bad per se, they were.. underfoot, his father would call it, and the pressing crowds pressed on his mind. After little more than food-runs Trine's overpopulated main areas were a bit overwhelming; it was easier to come back into the world here, where it was quiet.

"I'm okay," he said, fingering the pink, puffy scars as he came forward to meet her with the scrub brush he'd managed to borrow. "And it needs exercising, right?" As he put a hand on the scarred moss-green hide and picked a place to start, the big dark shape making its way up the beach caught his eye. The weyrbrat squinted back, trying to identify the interloper. Someone unknown, or at least somewhat familiar?

Tinnunculus

Berath agreed with a deep croon, She'd said all of this before, and Bereck had, and Aleck knew it... but she had to say it again, because he was her little hatchling and she couldn't help being concerned about him.

As Aleck turned and peered down the beach Berath rumbled and turned her head to follow his gaze. she said cheerfully, keen eyes easily identifying the figure.

----------

As he drew closer Carltis spotted a lanky figure beside Berath. He couldn't exactly identify them for sure at this distance, but their being by the big green along with the general shape mode him think it was Aleck. Well... that was alright, right? Yes, it was; it would be good to get a chance to talk to him actually.... Maybe he could figure out if the other weyrbrat actually liked him or not. He thought that he did after the whole eggs thing, but he wasn' yet convinced.

Feeling a shade nervous, a shade annoyed with himself for that, and a shade hopeful Carltis raised a hand in greeting and picked up his pace to a swift walk rather than a stroll. It would be fine... probably.
