Because.

Shut up.

Jake pushed aside the book he was reading and messaged his temple.

Normally, he wouldn't be wasting his time reading when he could be doing more important stuff, like TRAINING, but he had heard rumours about strange artifacts, items that could empower an individual, give them an upper hand in a battle. There was no way he could turn down something like that... even if it meant he had to waste time READING.

"No."

He stared at the cover of the book before him.
History of the Parthenon

There were other books scattered on the table.
Greek Gods
Blessing of the Muses
Ancient Tale of Might Gods

He sighed and slumped down on the table, resting his forehead on the surface.

...

Another sigh, but he finally sat up and pulled out his phone.
If he had to be stuck asking someone for help, at least it'd be someone he knew... and could deal with.
In his mind, the girl still owed him for that horrid game of Jenga, even though he ended up winning. And besides, that was the only number he had.

Deus Archives. Now.

Sherry raised one eyebrow and stared at her phone. Jake? Requesting her presence? That seemed…like an improvement. “I wonder what he wants?”

Sherry rolled her eyes and shut her phone. Armagnac was right, after all. They had spent the morning on duty, and therefore, had not had much training today. And now it looked like she’d have to put her nap on hold.

“Of course,” she sighed. “I’m sure he’ll be willing to have a spar after we finish whatever in the archives.” Sherry knew he would. It was Jake, and he was always up for a fight. She knew she could count on that. There was a smile on her face as she tied her scarf. She was still grinning as she left her room, her coat draped over one arm.

---

When she actually got to the archives, it didn’t take her too long to find him. “Well. This is one place I never thought I’d find you.” Her eyes glanced over the books spread out before him. “Though I wouldn’t have figured you a fan of classics, either. Not that it’s a bad thing. Liking them or not.”

Right, Sherry was talking too much again. Right. “What do you need?”

He was attempting to re-read the book again when Sherry arrived, at which he shut the book loudly.

Ignoring her previous comment, he got up and shoved the book at her.

"I heard there's this place with these items that can help out in battles. I'm trying to look for the location, but no luck so far. You're life division, aren't you? You do this research crap on a regular basis. Help me look for it."

"Err, well," Sherry took half a step back, and took the book from him at the same time. "I am life division, yes." She stared at the book for half a second, letting his words sink in.

He was asking for her help? She was flattered, she really was. However. "What? You heard about some place, and just expect to be able to find it? Jake, that's not much to go on, and this looks like some pretty hefty research." She indicated the books.

Armagnac sounded slightly grumpy.

"But alright," she grabbed a chair and sat down. "Tell me what you do know. What exactly am I looking for?" She opened the book.

Yes.

He put his hands on her shoulders, and steered her towards the table.
"That's why YOU'RE here. This is your specialty. Not mine."

Sherry, unfortunately, would soon learn that once Jake put his mind to something, he had no intention of giving up until he saw it through.
Meaning, she was probably going to be stuck here for a long, long time.

"Dunno. It has something to do with Greek gods and what not. There should be a book here about some portal or something leading to a place."

That was pretty much all she was going to get.

"I gathered that. Though I don't know if it's my specialty," she may have stiffened a little at his touch, but she made no indications that it, or the thought of helping him was unwelcome. She liked the idea of helping him. Even if it meant scouring these books for lord knows what.

Ignoring Armagnac, Sherry tried her best to focus on the book. "A place? That's the best you got?" She sighed and gave Jake her best deadpan stare. It was almost like she was wondering why she was sitting here agreeing to this. Almost.

She looked at the books, then back at him. "Well, hopefully it's in one of these. If not," she glanced at the stacks in the library. They could be in here forever.

Hush. We're staying to help.

"Ok. I guess I'll go through this one, and you can take one of those," she gave Jake a small smile, then turned to the pages before her.

Maybe she would know what they were looking for when she found it?

Jake only let out an exasperated sigh.
"I've already CHECKED those. It's not in there."
<... And just how thoroughly did you go through it?>
...

He pinched the bridge of his nose, squeezed his eyes shut and lowered his head as he tried to remember what he heard.
Location, location...

"I remember... hearing about 3 locations. Some temple, water labyrinth and island. The one I'm trying to look for is the temple..."

Whether or not that would help... who knew.
PostPosted: Thu Nov 08, 2012 10:53 pm

Another long stare. "You sure it's not in any of these?" She gestured to the books on the table.

"Tell you what. I'll sit here and skim this one, and you see what other books you can find. Or," she stopped, looking around. "Or you could go get us something to drink. I have a feeling we'll be here a while."

She then turned her attention to the book. A temple, huh? A temple with items, and portals. 'kay. She could find this.

He only shrugged.
"I didn't find anything, though I might of missed it."

He ignored Chester and started looking through the stacks.

"I don't want to stay here any longer than you do. The sooner we find it, the sooner we can leave."

"Well, in that case, we can always come back to them," she set the book aside, fully intending to pick it back up later. It wasn't that she didn't trust Jake's ability to find things. In fact, she had every bit of faith that he could find something in a book. It was just that, well, that book seemed rather interesting. That, and she really didn't want to look through every book in the library if she didn't have to.

Still, she went to join Jake in the stacks. He was clearly the driven sort, not having been here very long and already wanting to pick up extra knowledge and things. He would probably go far at Deus.

Armagnac felt the need to chime in.

Why are you even bothering? You know my answer.

The lindwyrm was usually blunt.

True. But usually it's just my day you are interfering with. Don't worry, Armagnac. I'm sure we'll have time for something physical later. I even bet Jake will be willing to join us. However, expanding the mind is just as important as the body. And I know you agree, to a point.

The weapon huffed in reply.

It didn't take Sherry too long to find a few more books to look through, and thus, she sat herself down at the table to go through everything.

How long did they sit and there comb through books? Sherry wasn't sure. Surely it felt longer than it really was, what with Armagnac bothering her every few minutes. But it was certainly a good long while. They probably should have brought snacks or something.

"Jake, come here. Look at this. I think...maybe this is what you want," she said, staring at a passage in...she didn't even know what book she was holding; they all started to blend together after a while. "It says something about an abandoned place of worship, blessed items, and portals. It definitely says portals." And something about the place existing between worlds, but whatever. He wanted items and portals, and she was pretty sure she just found it.

When she called him, he abandoned his search and went over to her.
... he hadn't been looking all that hard anyways.

Leaning over her shoulder, he quickly skimmed over the passage she pointed at.
"Great, great," he muttered. "Now we just need a LOCATION."

There was no point in knowing about it if they didn't know where the hell to go.

If Jake's attention hadn't been fully immersed in the book, he would realize just how close his head was to Sherry's.

Sherry was fully aware of how close his head was to hers. It wasn't like she was trying to notice. It was just, well, he was right there. Right there. And honestly, Sherry didn't spend that much time that close to people. She might have said it made her uncomfortable, but it didn't. Not really. Except for that it did. Not that she was complaining--

"Right, of course." Book.

Armagnac was sounding especially peeved.

Sherry turned a page, and kept reading. They were clearly on the right track. Pockets between worlds, before Halloween was fully Halloween, and...There.

"Wait, I think this might be it," she said, tapping a paragraph. It mentioned portals being random, but also mentioned certain places where they were more common. One of places rang a bell with the life hunter.

His eyes immediately went to the paragraph she pointed at, and after some quick skimming, he finally found what he was looking for.

"Weeping Forest."

He pulled the book out of Sherry's hand and stood up straight, shutting it in his hand and tucking it under one arm.

"Congratulations. Now we can get the hell out of here and get this started already."

He turned and walked out of the library, not waiting to see if Sherry would follow or not.

The Weeping Forest. Sherry knew she'd heard of it. It was in Halloween. It was--

She looked up in surprise as Jake snatched the book away.

"Hey. Wait. Right now?" She jumped out of the chair and wasted no time following him.

gaia_crown [ Getting Started: ]

Getting into the Altar of the Old Gods:
- You need to camp out in the Weeping Forest after reading the information. Hunters can enter Halloween as well without a golem (recommended as the Altar itself is very golem unfriendly due to its climate and high altitude as well as natural enemies), for a max of 30 minutes. Each roll takes 5 IC minutes - students can pretty much park here as long as they need as well as horsemen while Hunters will need to exit and enter back again.
- Basically, all Hunter characters have 6 chances to find the portal. If they don't find it, they will need to leave and come back. Students and Horsemen do not need to ICly leave and come back.
- All players roll 1d100.
- Rolling 50 or less will let players find a portal that randomly leads to someone's house. Feel free to RP this as you please as awkwardly as you please
- Rolling 70 or less will let players find a portal that leads to the Land of Holidays. Right now is really not the time for Xmas cheer...and the creatures there seem extremely hostile
- Rolling 80 or less will lead you to the Haunted House.
- Rolling 81 or higher will let you find the portal! Success! You can now proceed inside.
