Ava was still buzzing from the day prior. She had reunited with her favorite sister only for a short while, but when that time consisted of saving a baby elephant with the help of a Goddess, she had no complaints. Quality over quantity, and if that wasn't quality time, then she was a Firekin.
The elephants had engrossed her attention since then. The herd she found was not the same group that had been involved in the almost-tragedy, but they had been told about it -- about her sister, mostly, and how her quick thinking had saved an otherwise doomed calf from starving in the mud or having to be mercifully killed when he broke something. Ava, though helpful, had not earned the same reputation.
"Is it true you never forget?" she asked the cows.
"Yes," said Mtobi, exasperated. The troublesome lioness had been tagging along with she and the other females since the early morning, and by now, knew all their names. The children were amused by their unlikely company, but Mtobi was growing wary of her. "Isn't that one of your kind over there? Wouldn't you rather talk to him?"
Ava tilted her head and her eyes slowly moved to the side, seeking out this aforementioned lion or lioness. They were approaching a watering hole in the middle of the day. Naturally, there would be other predators around.
She'd much rather talk to the elephants.

Ugh, finally! He had scented the moisture from the watering hole miles back as he traveled, simply scavenging the rouge lands for something to eat and drink. He hadn't even seen any other predators in even the horizon, only spotting prey and herd animals. He couldn't even find another creature of his own kind! Not that he was entirely sure that he would interact with them, anyway....however, a "familiar" face would be nice to see every once in a while after traveling for so long, so tirelessly.
In reality, he just realized that he actually hadn't even seen the coat of another lion since the time he interacted with the Dawn-walkers, and that was at least five to seven days prior to the current day that it was. But even then, his interactions were wonky and awkward. The time that he spent with them was really the only proper time in his entire life that he had any proper or "true" interactions with other creatures in general, other than the casual and incredibly brief chats with other felines when asking for general directions across the savannah. Other than that, he had never truly interacted and socialized with other lions or felines, not even other canines. His father had abandoned his mother, and his mother abandoned him when he was just past weening age. That's the only thing he knew in his mind, anyway.
But as he approached the watering hole, a slight frown creased on his maw as he saw it was infested with elephants. He knew they would give him no trouble as he stopped to rest and drink, unless he approached them too close, of course, but he was just way too used to being alone and so their company dissatisfied him. And as he got even closer, the scent of other lions drifted into his nostrils, followed by his eyes picking their figures out as his nose pinpointed their source. Huh.
He approached ever-closer, noticing one of them watching his approach to the edge of the water nearby them. Although he was a good 20 feet or so away from them, he felt himself being overcome by a desire to look over them in return, share a word or two. Literally, or so. His time with the Dawn-walkers had been very brief, but their numbers had started to grow on him after his lonely life, and it had been days since he had even seen a hair of another lion (or lioness for that matter). But one of the females didn't even appear to care or notice his presence, so for now he simply lapped up the still water that he had dipped his toes on his forepaws in.
"Hello," he grumbled to the lionesses after several long moments of lapping up the cool water. That was the only thing that was necessary to say to them, and if they wished to respond then they would. If not, it wasn't his loss. These were strangers, and in his mind he had made the effort to communicate. For him, that was a major achievement which he prided himself in.Hopefolly I'm so sorry for the wait!!! School got in my way these past few days! >_<

[.Silvr-Moon.] No problem! Sorry for the wait on this one. I work weekends so I sometimes can't hit all my tags Friday-Sunday. The moments before the lion took it upon himself to greet her, albeit gruffly, Ava stood awkwardly and silently beside the thirsty elephants. Had this stranger been doing something worth getting up in arms about, she'd have potentially lost her voice with all the talking she'd be doing. He wasn't, and without that scenario to help counter her social anxiety, she waited and hoped he was just going to leave and not--
"Hello."
So much for that.
Ava looked askance at his addressing them. Life would have been easier for her if she could just find it in her to be intentionally rude, but alas, she could only manage the inadvertent version. And so she nodded, hurried a "Hello there," and quickly made herself scarce. When they weren't moving, the elephant's legs were easy to use as cover from an unwanted conversation, and she ducked under the one beside her and moved to the other side.
Though, unwanted wasn't the right word. More so. . . an unplanned conversation.
"What are you doing?" another elephant asked. This one was in her adolescence and had the gossipy nature to show for it. "He's really cute. I mean, if I was a lion, I would think so. You should talk to him."
Ava didn't disagree, which with her, was more or less the equivalent of agreeing. "And say what?"
"Tell him something about you," the youngster provided patiently.
Ava stared at her, sighed, and returned to her previous spot. The one much closer to the lion. She cleared her throat. "My name is Ava." All was going well so far. "It's my twin sister's name too." Okay, time to stop talking now -- "I really hate her."
Whoops.

Hopefolly Don't be sorry~! <3 I have to apologized for this unusually delayed post, myself! RL just spontaneously decided to completely take over and throw so much drama with work, school, and family in my way of writing! And I had to take care of such things first, obviously, since I have to say RL is more important than my Gaia schedule... D; Still, I really apologize for the wait! I hate making others wait so long! ;_; Well, the main lioness to have captured his attention didn't ignore him, in fact, she returned a simple hello back to him, however she did deliberately distance herself from him and moved out of his sight and closer to the nearby elephants. Oh well, at least he tried to be sociable? He can't beat himself up for trying, and he already knew he wasn't that interesting of a creature; he thought he was as bland of a creature as his coat. He was neither offended or surprised that the lioness decided to abort the conversation before it could even begin; if he wasn't confined to refueling himself at the waterhole with these other creatures, he would most likely part ways as early as she had, too. So without even wasting the energy to shrug, he turned his attention away from her general direction and onto the still water that was several feet away from his nose.
He hadn't even taken three laps of the water when the lioness spontaneously decided to come back to him, approaching him at a distance that was much closer to him than before. Confused, he pretended that he hadn't noticed her approach as he continued to lap at the water, hesitating mid-lick at one point with his tongue halfway out of his mouth when she decided to clear out her throat, announcing her name to him. Ava. Simple, pretty, direct. It couldn't be much better than that.
"Theluji," he briefly introduced himself, lifting his large head to examine her properly again, his eyes meeting hers like he learned to during his time with the Dawn-walkers. If she was going to take the time and effort to actually create a conversation with him, he might as long go along with it and practice being a "normal" social creature. Besides, the lioness, Ava, was actually quite attractive, which only helped him practice the way one was supposed to look at another when communicating.
But then she suddenly mentioned a sister. How was he supposed to converse again? Simply build off of what the other person said, right? It surely seemed to be that simple growing up, and even while living among a pride. "I have no family. But if I did, I'm not sure if I would hate them or not. I might hate my parents, but I haven't given it much thought yet," he awkwardly rumbled back to her, blinking a few times as he stared at her.

Ava had a hard time finding a level playing field for the game of conversation with most lions. She either wanted to be the champion of strangers, or in the background of them, with little wiggle room in between. She could never relate to them and their families. They had nothing to talk about that they could mutually connect with (or so was her opinion).
Theluji -- that's what he'd said his name was, right? -- had this chitchat stuff figured out. He didn't get offended by her disrespect. He wasn't taken aback by how her isolation had made her blunt to the feelings of others. Ava had a sister like him, and she did know how to talk to her.
"You have to have family," Ava pressed. "Technically. To be born. Unless you're a God, maybe. I hear some of them just appear from nowhere."
She eyed him suspiciously. "Are you?"

"Parents. Not a family," he mumbled gruffly, blinking down at her. During his time with the Dawnwalkers as well as brief passing of others while traveling, he had learned the emotional difference between the two defining words for "families". His parents abandoned him, he had no idea if he even had siblings, therefore they were just genetic donors and parents to him to have brought him into this world, but he had never really had a family for himself. He wasn't even sure if he wanted one for himself by now, because of how used he was to relying on himself for physical and emotional support and such.
"You?" he said rather blandly. "And you?" he corrected himself more grammatically, not wanting to sound too stupid. He knew he was far from being an idiot of any kind, but based on the reactions of others when he would talk to them, apparently he appeared to be dim. "Your sister. What is it like to have a sibling? Must you like them for being a sibling?"
He simply still ignored Ava's questioning of him being a God, but was also so genuinely curious to hear about the lives of those with actual families. Some felines had told him before that you absolutely had to love their parents and siblings and offspring because of the fact they all had a bond and shared genetics, but others said you didn't have to like them necessarily.

A few very dominating quirks in Ava's personality were all triggered at once. For starters, she didn't always mind being overlooked, but being ignored -- whether it was her or just her questions, as in this case -- was another matter. Plus, she was suspicious. The icing on the cake? If you weren't disagreeing, to Ava, you may as well have laid a confession on the table.
His odd behavior, his inquiries about families, and his bypassing any denial he was a God -- Of course! It all made sense now! Her eyes darted to the elephants, but they had no interest in her conversation.
Then and there, Ava was convinced she was speaking to a disguised God.
Now, what did she do about it?
"You... might," she said slowly. "Parents can be bothersome. My father and mother were both pretty weird. Although one had an excuse. A Goddess enslaved her mother, so she was born a slave... Can you imagine doing such a thing? The Gods sure are meddling, aren't they?"
Ava stared hard at him, waiting.

Hopefolly I am so, so sorry for my semi-hiatus keeping me from creating a response for you! This is way too delayed, I apologize! :C After this post I will be immediately starting our Arashi x Lessie RP! Theluji, absolutely oblivious to what he had done to the lioness with his vague choices of words, simply stared at her and carefully monitored her every movement, both in an attempt to stay on high alert in case of a sudden dangerous mood-change and to study "normal" lion interactions as best as he could. He did eventually want to get to know other lions some day, didn't he? And that meant he had to do his best and focus hard on all the little details of a conversations, with lions of all types. It didn't hurt that this one he found fairly beautiful!
Was his question a confusing one to other lions? The way she hesitated and just stared at him quite strongly certainly made him think so. But there was one abnormal thing that went along with her reactions with his words; there was a certain, odd glitter which now sparked vividly in her eyes. Was she now becoming overly suspicious of him by now? He was a stranger, and it would be expected. Yet still...
"That is understandable. I suppose?" Ugh, why did he say his response in such a broken, odd, and dim way? He was much above that! This would only skew his practice with his social skills!
But what struck him even more strangely was how she brought up Gods again. For what purpose? Until he had met the Dawnwakers, not a singular other feline had brought up the idea of Gods, so until he had met the pride he had never even heard the word or had the slightest suspicion that such an immortal being could possibly exist. Maybe this lioness was an exception? And looked up to such an odd creature?
"No, I cannot imagine such a thing. That would be much too cruel." He took a moment to stare neutrally back at her, contemplating the idea of slavery. It was simply horrible that anyone or thing could think of immorally enslaving such a wild creature like a lion or another feline! That could be the worst thing that anyone could be forced to endure!
"I have no knowledge on any Gods at all, so I would have no idea on that. A God has never shown any clues of existence in my life, so I do not know if they can interact with mortals. They must be very bothersome to many mortals in that case, though. If they did that to that lioness." Wow, that was probably the longest dialogue in one shot that he had ever made before with another feline. What a breakthrough!

If he was a God, he was good at this. If he wasn't, then Ava was going to have some explaining to do if she kept on with her interrogation. She considered the evidence and her options. Innocent until proven guilty or guilty until proven innocent?
"If that's the case, you better watch out for them," she warned him. The dire tone and intense scowl proved she meant business. Ava didn't joke on matters involving the deities. "They'll get you too if you let 'em."
The ground vibrated beneath her and Ava turned to see the elephants starting to migrate elsewhere. She nodded to him and hurried to catch up, calling over her shoulder, "Keep an eye out!"
