 Mags strolled slowly along through the forest, sticking close to the river where food and water was more in abundance, though with autumn half over there was still plenty of food to be found the few times he’d had to leave the rivers he’d been following.
Food had been abundantly easier to find in the city, even if it wasn’t considered good food. Mags had been living on scraps for so long that even the moldiest tidbits had looked good, and he’d been a tough little weed of a kit, hardly ever getting sick. And that was usually all he got, for the male who had found him and taken him in after his parents had died was abusive and took all the best finds for himself. It had taken Mags a long time to work up the courage to run away, but he finally had. He liked to keep on the move after that, a little afraid that the male would come after him and kill him for leaving.
Movement caught Mags eye and he wandered over to the water’s edge. River bugs were in abundance here, small, shelled creatures with tiny pinchers that were easy to avoid. Their tails contained lots of tasty meat for their size, and Mags managed to catch himself a snack.

 Sookie sighed as she stopped for a moment to catch a breath. She had been walking for hours and still hadn't seen anyone. That was strange for a forest. Not even a bird in sight. It was starting to really freak her out. She was hoping to find someone to ask directions... considering she was pretty sure she was lost. Glancing to her right she spotted the river flowing through the area. Now that she thought about, she was kinda thirsty. Smiling she trotted over and leaned down to get something to drink.

There was a rustling sound in the underbrush further up the riverbank. Mags, midway in pursuit of another one of the river bugs, froze in place for a moment the crouched low to the ground. His own colors and patterns would help to disguise him, and since the riverbank was made up of a variety of browns it actually wasn’t as bad a place to hide as some would think. It just felt horrible exposed.
He held his breath and waited, watching. There was a vague glimmer among the plants, then suddenly a female emerge from the forest. Mags felt his muscles relax and he let out the breath he’d been holding in. For a moment there he’d thought…
He didn’t let his guard down entirely though. Just because this was a female it didn’t necessarily follow she was helpless. He knew a few female foxes from the city who could have tanned his hide without a second thought. Moving would ruin his camouflage illusion, so Mags just remained where he was with his mind racing furiously. Did he take the risk that this female was harmless, and move? Or did he stay here and risk her seeing through his illusion? It wouldn’t be hard to do, if she was trained to be constantly observant of her surroundings. The fact that she hadn’t seemed to have spotted him yet argued for the fact that she hadn’t, but she could also be a deliberate act on her part.
Heart hammering, Mags finally made up his mind. He slowly stood upright, trying to inch towards the forest and it’s superior cover.

After taking a few drinks she flet content and a lot better. Rather then continue on her way she took a seat and just admired the view of the area. It was beautiful out today and wanted to take her time. Wile she was looking around her ear twitched as she heard something along her left side. Turning he looked around to see who or what could have made the noise and thought she had spotted something moving around in the brush. She looked around nervously before calling out.
"Hello? Is someone there?"

Mags instantly froze as soon as he saw the female’s ears twitch, so that by the time she looked around he was completely still with no movement to give him away. He was grateful there was a sparse screen of sticks and brown, dead or dormant plants between him and her. It wasn’t enough to hide him if he’d been, say, brilliant reds and oranges, but as long as he stayed still his browns would blend into the background and help foster the illusion the foliage was making. He was hoping that the female wouldn’t spot him, and if she didn’t that she’d think all she heard was some kind of creature in the woods.
That probably was what she head, since Mags knew that he hadn’t made any noise himself. He could move more silently than a ghost when he put his mind to it.
His mind was racing as he tried to think several steps ahead. If the female spotted him or came looking over here, he might have to make a break for it. Even if she was a good person she could still someday mention having meeting him to someone else and word would travel back to his old master who would then have a direction to search in. No, better to hide and hope she never spotted him.
((Sorry for his horrible cautiousness, I'm hoping he'll get past it quick enough.))
