After the twitter discussion he'd had that morning, Rep had finally slunk off to the quartermaster. Explaining to the long suffering hunter that his friend needed reading glasses hadn't cut the mustard and he'd eventually had to fold and admit grudgingly that he meant himself. This much garnered from him, he'd told Rep that the glasses they had, new and second hand, along with backups for various people were kept in the same store cupboard and that if he wanted, he could go try them out and see if they made any difference to him. It wasn't like they had an on-island opticians to help him figure out the exact requirements.
He'd retrieved the key and headed off, however along the way there was a slow and nagging doubt in his mind. How would he know if the ones he chose looked absolutely ******** terrible? What did women's glasses even look like? It would be bad enough to have to wear the ******** things to read, it would be a million times worse if when he did people frankly fell about laughing.
He detoured back to the room to see if Jordan was still around, all the while being completely covert as if people could somehow tell what key he had in his hand.

Jordan was indeed still around. He was sitting on the couch with a book, attempting to look as though he was reading and not actually doing much reading. He firmly resisted the temptation to check Twitter again; it wasn't doing his peace of mind any good.

Rep closed the door but didn't lock it, clearing his throat as if to announce he was there. Clearly the rustle of his jacket and the sounds of the door just wouldn't suffice on their own.
"So." he said awkwardly, looking absolutely interested in the floor. He realised now he was there that he had no idea how to even bring to broach this subject. Every single instinct demanded that he claim they were for a friend. In which case trying the ******** things on himself made no sense at all.
oh so difficult thing William and tell the truth.>
"I like.. Well. It turns out that like. Those really little bits at the bottom of books." he mimed a footnote's position with his hands. "Those aren't for decoration!" He wilted self consciously. "Tracey wants to be able to read them. And..like. The quartermaster says they have lots of different like.."
"Listen I just, need your help telling if they look ******** retarded. I won't be wearing them much but I don't want to look like a ******** woman when I do."

Rep's defensive tone and posture told Jordan immediately that the other man was embarrassed about what he had to say. That could only mean one thing in this context. ... Yep.
"Nothing wrong with wearing glasses," he said as casually as he could, and held up his book. "You may have noticed that I approve of reading. I'm not about to criticize you for that." He put the book aside and stood up. "I'd be happy to give you a hand."

Rep cringed a little, there was a lot he felt was wrong with glasses, it was essentially a weakness you wore on the bridge of your nose. At least he only needed reading ones, and provided he caught it, if what Candace said had any weight, that was all he'd need. "I'm still not a good reader. I just need to be able to see all the wee writing on like, mission reports and s**t. Otherwise I might end up saying aye to something that'll get me murdered."
At the agreement to tag along however, he perked up immediately.
"Awesome! They are in one of the storerooms, he like, gave me the key." An honest to goodness junk storeroom, he could hardly contain his excitement.

There wasn't much complicated on mission reports. Jordan didn't say anything about it. "Being able to read the small print is a good thing," he agreed instead. "It'll help if you've got to do anything in the labs, too. I don't trust their small print."
"In a locked storeroom, huh? I wonder if they get many glasses bandits," he joked. "Lead the way."

"Aye. I just don't like things going by me that I can't read." He didn't mention that it was actually a relief to have the offer to double check life documentation, he didn't doubt for a second they'd be slippery as it was possible to be with their wording.
"He said it was a precaution cause a lot of s**t's been going missing." He smiled innocently. "I think maybe it's in case one of Jerry's exes breaks in and ruins them all."
He headed along the corridor ahead, still somewhat flighty and paranoid, self conciousness pretty deeply ingrained after already denying that he needed glasses at all on twitter. As such the pace was quite a bit swifter than usual, and as they arrived, he unlocked the door and slunk inside.
Only then, once he was out of sight of passer's by, did he seem to relax, switching on the light and looking around the shelves piled high with mostly worthless junk. It felt homey.

Jordan laughed. "An eminently reasonable supposition," he said dryly.
He followed Rep into the storeroom, glancing around the room with raised eyebrows. Clutter everywhere; well, they had to keep spare stuff somewhere, after all. He was glad he didn't work with the quartermaster, though. This kind of disorder would drive him crazy. "Did he say where they were?"

Rep wanted to rummage in every dusty old box, check every pile of faded old sheets and generally just find anything of any worth that he could hoard. But things in here had to be part of some inventory somewhere, so he didn't dare. Glasses and then out again, that was all.
"He saaaid they should be near the spare cushion covers." he hovered along the rows in the dusty dark, looking for linens.
"I think they need more cyan s**t." he mused playfully, noting that many of the old worn out towels and other fabrics were all in the typical runic colours used on much of the facility's branded items.
Finally he came upon a shelf that was almost all glasses, split into prescription and reading, some familiar, some decidedly not so. "Found them!" He beamed proudly.

"Is there any kind of organization to this at all?" Jordan muttered, checking cupboards. He took it back. Maybe he should be working with the quartermaster's office, if only to impose some kind of order on this chaos.
"I'm just glad the standard sheets aren't cyan," he answered. "Glow-in-the-dark linens wouldn't help much with a good night's rest."
Rep had found the glasses; Jordan moved over to take a look. Some of the frames looked like ones he'd seen on certain hunters; others were more generic or just unfamiliar. "You got any idea what kind you like?" He shot a sideways look at Rep.

"Sure, plenty organisation, the organisation of mess. Everything where you left it."
Rep critically eyed the rows of glasses as he tried to figure out what sort of ones he liked. Some of them were nice, but none of them had that special oomph he went for. Finally he picked up a pair of reflective sunglasses that had to have gotten mixed in there somehow.
"These ones are nice." he offered.

"That doesn't help if you weren't the one who left it there," Jordan pointed out.
He raised an eyebrow at the sunglasses. "Those aren't reading glasses," he said. "Those are sunglasses. They'll make it harder to read." He scanned over the available selection, picked up a pair of small glasses with their lenses half-framed with light metal. "Try these. I should've brought my book," he mused.

Rep resisted the urge to say that he could move all the stuff elsewhere and then it would totally adhere to his filing system, they had fashion to do.
He couldn't hide his disappointment as the glasses he'd picked out turned out to be sunglasses. Of course the coolest pair in the whole room would be sun specific, the sun was just amazing wherever it showed up. "They should make reading ones like that, I'd wear them."
Still he didn't complain at all as he was handed another pair, turning them over in his hands as he examined them before placing them on the scarred bridge of his nose. "They are really blurry." he said with a slight frown, before moving his hand a little nearer to himself. It came into focus surprisingly sharply.
"Woooah. I like. That's ******** cool. It's like. Realer than real."

"I don't think the coating would work very well for reading glasses," Jordan said, setting the sunglasses aside.
There was a noticeable pause as Rep put the glasses on. After a moment, Jordan commented, "They're, uh, made to help you focus at short range. Everything else will be blurry because of the way the lenses focus." Another pause. "Do you always see things blurry up close?"

"Shame cause it would totally work for like, badass purposes. You could like read the most boring femmy s**t and people'd be like, see that guy? He's a ******** badass, look at him reading ******** little women."
He looked over the glasses at Jordan, finding it impossible to look through them without the blur getting in the way. "Eh.." there was another twinge of self conciousness. "Well yeah man. I guess. I just...didn't realise they were like, blurry before, because it like didn't matter." He eyed his hands again, frankly amazed by how detailed they were. If real life was a game, he'd found out how to turn on high quality textures.
