SHADOW RUN
The Shadow Run is both the simplest and most dangerous training course that can be run without a golem. A flurry of continuous attacks is what the Sun Division holds in highest respect, and the course reflects that. The course itself is a simple tunnel, reached via portal. Within the tunnel await hundreds of weak, hungry shadowlings. Nothing to worry about on their own, but capable of overwhelming a Hunter through sheer numbers at the first moment of weakness. At the other end of the tunnel is another portal, leading back to the course observation booth.
If you fail: your character is KO'd, but there's always a senior hunter in the observation booth with enhanced bandages at the ready. They should reach you in time. Really. Trained and trusty professionals on-hand 24/7.
If you win: peen points and bragging rights to those who take out the greatest number of shadowlings and go the most turns without needing to attempt a recovery maneuver.
Mechanics
You must get through 5 waves of attacks to make it through the tunnel.
Simply roll for attack as you would in battle.
If you miss, your character falters in their attacking and is overwhelmed by shadowlings.
After 3 successful hits, you may use your weapon's charge attack.
Bonus Mechanics
This bonus is consumable.
The bonus in this course is in the form of "recoveries" ~ these are would-be missed attacks that are quickly recovered and turned into a successful hit. Basically, they can miss once and roll again for an extra try. If you keep consecutively missing, though, and run out of recoveries, it's lights out. These do not equal an automatic pass for a round, you still have to land a successful hit to proceed.
Trainees: 0 recovery
Sun Trainees: 1 recovery
Hunters: 1 recovery
Sun Hunters: 2 recoveries

Melvin had been doing relatively well with training, and he had remembered how close he came to the Shadow Run course with Dakota before he was overwhelmed. It was a bad mark on his mental training report card and he wanted it fixed to a pristine A+. However, he hadn't been able to spot Dakota all day and decided that he'd send a message to another friend of his.

Rin was wandering aimlessly about the compound trying to find a warm sunnyish spot to nap in when suddenly her phone went off. She lazily fished it out and read the received text with idle curiosity.
Well, it wasn't what she was looking for but it was still certainly something to do. Something enjoyable. She quickly fired off a reply and leaned against a wall in contemplation of orders.

She was prompt with her reply, and he was glad she hadn't been in the middle of training, duty, or sleeping. While he could have gone on his own, he had been doing all of his training with a senior hunter as a safety precaution and to see how a older hunter handled the course and what they did that might be otherwise different to how he reacted.
He sent a response back and headed over to the portals.

When he texted 10, she read it as 5. In one swift motion she clipped her phone shut, tucked it away, and hauled a** in the direction of the portals, somehow managing to arrive with time to spare. It seemed that important somehow.

Melvin meant 10. He arrived with nearly 1 minute to spare when he saw Rin had beat him to the punch. However, he just guessed she had been nearby at the time he texted her. "Hey." He said when he saw her, yet noticed she looked a bit flushed in the cheeks. Maybe she had been working nearby. "Didn't know if you were busy or not, but wanted to get this training done.
He motioned to the portal. "Have you done Shadow Run before?"

Rin drew a deep soothing breath before approaching him, "Wasn't doing anything - and, ah, no.. what is it exactly?" She wasn't going to fault him for her own punctuality at least. She simply agreeably seemed to be following his guiding hand towards the portal.

"Oh." He had asked, but he honestly thought that everyone above him would have done all the training. The moment he found out there were courses, he had made it a point to do as many as he could. It was what was respected here, and he wanted to show to everyone else that he put in his time and wasn't slacking.
"Well, it's a run. You are hit by waves of little shadows and you have to make it to the other end. It's....very overwhelming." He said, scratching the back of his neck as he thought about the last time he went. "I was close last time." Which was probably impressive for a training, but it wasn't anything worth being proud of for Melvin.
"Basically, run and survive to the end."
Through the portal, a tech was waiting, observing and flipping through their phone. He glanced at then and pushed a button to unlock a set of doors. "This way." He summoned his weapon, and then looked to Rin. "When you're ready, we'll start."

"Sounds...," Rin offered a fleeting smirk before Byr too was summoned to join them, "...fun."
She had no clue about his inner conflict and issues; to her, what you see is mostly what you get and by this point she was radiating excitement at the prospect of a new test.
"Let's do this s**t, you seriously don't need to ask me twice."

Melvin took a deep breath before nodding. "Alright." He stepped through the portal doors to the shadow holding area. It was a very straight foward arrangement, with starting at one end and a door at the other end. It was the walls thick with shadowlings that was the worst, and he breathed deep, already feeling shaken.
They all perked when they saw and started to move in, and he started to fire at the few coming his way as he started to move forward. Status Wave: 1Attack Dmg: 5Total Shadowlings taken out:5 Recoveries left: 0

Rin was close on his heels so received an equally intimidating show of the shadows clattering hungrily in their directions.
She swung Byr out frantically in the initial panic at shadowlings that managed to slip past Melvin's firepower. Seeing them fly back dead though... it stirred something within the woman. A carnal sort of glee - she wanted more.
More things to murder.

Melvin watched as Rin jumped right in, coming close behind to as she swung her own weapon. Shooting, he continued to move slowly, letting Rin step beside him as they moved. "I actually manage to hit things when there are this many. Only upside." He told her, shooting a few little shadowlings that were moving in.
"Watch out. They get too close and suddenly they're all over you. That's how they got me last time." He spoke as if he was an expert, but he hoped he could finish the course if Rin helped with most of the killing.

Rin lashed out at a few that were getting too close to them for comfort, "We need to move faster though!"
She hacked through a few more by sweeping Byr back and forth repeatedly in efforts to push them back and clear a path for them to move more quickly.
In case he wasn't one for following suggestions she didn't give him the option and reached out to grab his gloved hand (the one not aiming and shooting Saliva) in hers and began hustling as she kept sweeping Byr side to side in front of them with her free hand to keep a clear path.

Melvin did not expect to have his hand taken, nor to be rushed ahead faster than he expected. Trying to catch up wasn't hard as tall as he was, but it was aiming that was the worst. He usually took a good deal of time to aim that running while he was aiming was almost impossible for him.
"Rin! I'm trying to aim!" He called to her, and if it wasn't for the fact he wore gloves, he would have yanked his hand away.

"You pause to aim and fire, but you really need to keep moving or I can't keep up!" She delayed in dragging him to swipe at another group of shadowlings that refused to move out of the way. "They're going to overcome me very quickly," her warning was soft but she started to drag him again soon after she was sure he got a shot in.
