[ORP] This is War! [Prideland Cubs/Pups]

There was a whole world out there and Pepo was going to explore it, chart it, conquer it.

She had found herself a rock. It was the best rock on this side of the Pridelands. It was tall (but not too tall) and she had perched herself on it with puffed chest and bright purple eyes.

On that grand station of command, she spied an unwary and unfortunate civilian in her midst. Taking in a heroic breath, Pepo made a sprinting run from her rock to her fellow youth.

"Get down!" she shouted as she attempted a saving tackle to the individual's side.

The unwary civilian just so happened to be Lani, who had been taking a stroll within the boundaries allowed to her. She had always assumed if she kept to where her parents had taught her to, nothing bad would happen, and as such she had never considered the possibility of attacking puppies!

She went down without a fuss, aside from a little gasp, and soon found herself on her side. "What's wrong?" She yelped, surprised. Get down? Why? Was there danger? Maybe an eagle. Maybe an eagle that ate cubs. Oh, woe!

Mkaa was bored. She had spent plenty of the day being bored, and had only accomplished things like pinning one of her brothers, and biting mommy's tail, and killing a beetle. She had been hoping for something more exciting to do, and boy, had she found it! First she saw Pepo on a rock, and then she saw Pepo going for a lion cub.

With an excited little yip, the black and white pup hurried over. "Pepo! Pepo! What can I do?" Certainly her sister was on an exciting mission! Mkaa would be glad to help.

Hidaya was still getting used to her new home. She knew very few of the cubs of the pride and had no clue of the wild dog pups living in the pride too. She had just been walking when she spotted the two wild dog pups and the one little cub together. The cub was pinned by one of the pups and she suspected bullying. The pups were ganging up on the cub. That made her particularly mad because she could relate. At times her adopted brothers ganged up on her because she was the only girl.

Hidaya rushed over to the aid of the cub. "Hey! Let her up! That's not nice!" She called out to the pup holding down the cub. She was all by herself and there were two of them. She didn't know if she could defend herself if they came for her but she would try.

"Hyenas," Pepo whispered in a low, conspiratory voice. There were, of course, no hairy, smelly carrion eating dog-cats anywhere near the Pridelands, but that couldn't stop them from pretending.

"Mkaa!" Pepo excitedly called out as her sister arrived. "Keep scout! They could be catching us from every angle. This young lion needs protection." Pepo's eyes went wildly scanning and then she caught on a larger assortment of rocks a great distance away. Hundreds of yards!

"We have to escort the princess back to the King. She has important information." Just then, Pepo lept to her feet, ears back, and she let out the most agressive tiny puppy growl she could possibly manage.

"There's a hyena now, come to stop us!" It was little Hidaya, with her black and white feet. She was coming to ruin the fun, of course, and that made her a hyena through and through!

Wh-wh-hyenas? She had certainly heard plenty about them, so Pepo's affirmation was enough to make Lani very worried. "Oh no!" She gasped, and squirmed to get back onto her paws, but remained low to the ground as if it would make her invisible.

The brown pup was joined by a black and white one, and Lani was getting pretty concerned. And then, finally, it dawned on her that this was a game, just as Hidaya showed up.

At first, she felt a little silly and embarrassed that she had been scared. She couldn't bring herself to be really upset or angry, so with a nervous laugh, decided it was best to play along. Lani was still at a loss for words, however, and failed to give Hidaya any indication that she was fine.

She nodded seriously. "Right! I'll get it done!" And with her best on-guard air, the little maned wolf trotted around Lani and Pepo once, before her attention was called to Hidaya.

"Halt!" She declared, immediately rushing in between Hidaya and the 'princess'. "You don't come any closer, hyena!" She demanded, boldly. She tilted her head briefly back. "I'll hold it off, Pepo! You should take the princess and go!" She wagged her tail and got into 'attack' mode, which didn't look too different from normal play mode, aside from furrowed eyebrows.

Dakarai could hear voices, childish voices drifting toward him on the warm afternoon air, and that could only mean one thing: something awesome was happening. As with all things awesome, this particular occurrence of awesomeness couldn't possibly be complete with Dakarai, so it only made sense for him to swing by and join in the festivities.

As it was, the little pup dropped low to the ground and scurried through the tall grasses, hearing both familiar and unfamiliar voices as he approached. Well, that was good. One of his many philosophies of life was that one could never have too many friends, large or small.

He wormed his way through the grass, keeping his steps as light and quiet as possible until he could see the shapes of other youngsters through the waving grass, and then, with a mighty pounce, he leaped out of the grass and toward the fray, bellowing, "DANGERRRRRRRRRR!" He landed beside Hidaya, legs splayed and fur bristling. It certainly looked like he might have already found himself a cohort.

Hidaya slowed her run and finally stopped when the black and white pup walked up to her and called her a hyena. She quirked her brow at the pup and just looked down right confused. She wasn't a hyena. She was clearly a lion. She didn't like hyena's.

She had play wrestled with her brothers before but never pretended like the pups were. "I'm not a hyena!" She exclaimed and then looked behind the pup at the little female cub. "You two need to stop ganging up on that cub!" She said as she crouched down into an attack mode meant to defend the cub that is until another pup came leaping out of the brush. She jumped in surprise and gaze at the pup that was now sprawled out on the ground. "You ok?" She asked the little pup.

"Liar!" Pepo shouted with an equal force towards Hidaya. She hunkered down as well, her rump wiggling with the excitement that her tail was unable to keep up with.

"Ahah!" Pepo gave a little bounce. "If you're not a hyena, explain why you're here to keep the princess from reaching the King!"

"Come on princess, we'd better be quick before--"

DAAANGEERRRR

"They've brought reinforcements. We've got to make a run for it!" Pepo butted Lani lightly in the rump to encourage an expedient exit. "Go for the ears!" Pepo shouted behind her, encouraging her sister's valiant efforts at tackling two hyena opponents. The brown splotched maned wolf was already beginning her run.

Even though Lani seemed to have figured out this was a game, Hidaya hadn't! She opened her mouth to try to explain to the other cub that everything was fine, but simply couldn't find space to speak with all that was going on! She managed to blurt out an "It's o...", but very quietly, and quickly gave up when another of the pups showed up. Where were they coming from?! She had never seen so many puppies!

"Okay! What –eek– way do we go?" The 'eek' was the sound made when she was butted, but obediently Lani began to head in the direction she had been pushed. Lani was having a bit of trouble getting in character, or else she might express concern for their companion that would be left behind. For now, she thought it was best she get to the King!

Mkaa gasped. Her own brother! She might have called him a traitor, but then realized that he was not her brother at all. He was an enemy hyena! She growled her little puppy growl, scampering to block the enemy's path so they couldn't follow Pepo and the princess.

"I'll make quick work of you!" Probably not, she was just one puppy. And lions were made of tougher stuff than maned wolves, even as cubs and pups. Still, Mkaa didn't seem worried as she charged forward. She jumped at Hidaya, but meant only to bump into her at the most, then go for Dakarai's ears. Because his were bigger.

"Just fine!" Dakarai declared, dropping low to the ground in anticipation of an attack. They were in enemy territory now, and anything could happen. Not only did they no longer have the element of surprise on their side, but they had also been made by the lions! Their mission was getting tougher by the second.

"Grab the Princess! If she makes it back to the King, she'll tell him the location of our secret hideout, and then the entire brotherhood will be doomed!" That, of course, would be bad. They had to go to all lengths possible to keep the brotherhood safe and intact.

"WE MUST PROTECT THE BROTHERHOOD," he howled, gasping at the apparently horrifying prospect of failing to do so. Dakarai leaped forward dramatically, trying to dodge Mkaa's attack (not the ears!) and sprint after the Princess. "OR DIE TRYING."

Hidaya was confused. They were all acting weird. They were all talking about princesses and kings and calling her a hyena. It took Mkaa's bump to her body for her to get it. They were playing a game and they were trying to take the other lion cub back to the 'king' and not let her and the other 'hyena' get her. Oh she could play along with this kind of game.

Once Mkaa had gone for Dakarai she took off after Lani and Pepo. She ran as fast as she could to catch up with them before Mkaa turned and tried to stop her. "You'll never get back to the king!"

"See that rock?" Pepo jerked her head towards it as they ran. As a puppy, she was lighter and generally faster than Lani. However, she kept pace with the game's 'princess', if not a bit behind. "Your father is meeting us there."

It seemed that her sister was doing a fine job of getting rid of the hyenas, when all of a sudden, she heard footfalls from behind her.

Pepo tried to increase their pace, but Dakarai was just too much. "Run! Run as fast as you can!!!"

Then, she veered off their course and leapt straight at Dakarai. Unlike her nice sister, Pepo played viciously. Her brother could take it! She was merciless in her assault on his ears. If Mkaa could hold off the spotted lion cub long enough for the princess to reach the rock, they would win. If not, well, Pepo wasn't losing to her brother!

Not really able to say yes right now, Lani settled for an "Uh-huh." Rock, right. That was were she had to go. With a clear objective in mind, and finally really beginning to feel the game now that she was running, the cub picked up the pace as well as she could once prompted. The rock! She had to get there and tell the King! About, well, about something!

She gasped when she realized she was running alone, looking briefly bakwards to see Pepo had fallen behind to confront the third pup. And Hidaya the Hyena was coming after her! Uh oh! She turned back to her objective and hurried along. Nononono, could not get caught!

Darn! Her brother, so slippery. Especially when he was being a hyena! She gave chase immediately, and became irritated once she found that she had failed to slow down Hidaya at all. Now Mkaa was facing the dilemma of, did she insist on attacking her brother, or go catch up with Hidaya?

Oh, Pepo to the rescue! Her sister made the choice for her in going after Dakarai, and so with a little yip, she picked up the pace. It was clear she was gaining on Hidaya quickly, and she'd be ready to pounce or bump or generally try to slow her down... ideally before she reached the princess!

Hidaya didn't even look back. She had her target, Lani, in sight and was not going to let her get away. She could hear the battle behind her and was sure someone was following her but she had to be vigilent and just keep running. She had to keep her eyes on Lani. She couldn't let the princess reach the rock and tell the king anything!

She was running as fast as her little paws would let her. She even used her claws to get as much traction to the ground that she could muster. She had her plan and she couldn't let her enemies deter her.
