Melvin had been spending time outside training, gym, and sparring to read in the library. Ever since he had been told to go there to find information, he had been reading up. Minipets, monsters, Fear, and Halloween. This was the place and the ONLY place he was sure that gave him the answers to all the things he had wanted to know and had yet to find out he even wanted to find out about the world that had haunted him since he was a child. It also served as a good way during his time without a weapon to spend his time he would otherwise use sparring.
He did admit he read a few things that probably would not come up in a battle, but it was nice to be prepared. As of recently, he had brought down one of the more worn tombs from a upper shelf about Halloween history and geography, tying into a rich world of mythology that he now knew was somehow real in that Fear-created world, and was deeply involved in reading about a certain island.
It caused him to smile about gods resting in lush pastures, but most of all about music. Being a fan of heavy metal, he snickered at the idea of a Satanic monster playing a harp as a massive god went to sleep. However, as he kept reading, more and more research was presented about these guarded and prized items which lead to a long list of essays about hunter theories.
It wasn't long till he was in the back in a plush chair reading and then arrived the next day after some minipet walkies to continue.

Jerry ghosted into the library, looking vaguely like a man on a mission. He used to spend a lot of time there, but then... had little need, as a Sun. With his shoulder still tender, he hadn't been practicing his guitar much and his Ukulele.... well. He'd get it back. Eventually. He headed toward the section on Weaponry, his internal gears turning when he hesitated at the sight of Melvin.
The polite thing to do would be to strike up a conversation. The guy wasn't so bad, and holding a grudge would just alienate more people...
You make a pretty shitty Lone Wolf, guy. Roar nudged. With a sigh, he fished for what book he was looking for, mulling over how to start a conversation.

Melvin had gotten up, setting the book open on a nearby table, and then moved past the aisles to a reference section and past case studies and some of the older files before he found maps and grabbed that, then he moved over to portal usage and went over and grabbed that. These two books could not be taken out, and he was delicate with them as he set them down and looked through them, moving to a section for the Weeping Forest and frowning at the wide and sometimes odd expanse. It was a place that changed and thus all maps were all subjective. That also meant that portal studies and sightings that were listed here, which were few due to others probably kept on file elsewhere and probably not for him, were on some computer he didn't have access to. He only read about what he could find about portals that appeared, and then sighed when he went back to the book on the Isle of Enchantment.
There were plenty of creatures theorized, others on giants, and even more on instruments. What the hell was a lyre anyways?
Rising from his seat later, he went over to the music section, a place he never even visited, and looked at titles. He didn't know if it was a woodwind or a percussion, and instead took a book on flutes and looked through the index.
"L....L.......lyyy..." He muttered.

Jerry spotted the man moving towards the music section.
Well that makes things easier, huh?
The Sun groaned. Melvin was really leaving him no excuse not to be social. Deep breaths. He gathered himself up, took a quick calming shot, adjusted his glasses and slipped over.
"What are you looking up?" He sounded friendly enough, he hoped. "I know this section top to bottom. Read most of it as a trainee. No TV, ahahahaha." See? He was behaving.

Melvin nearly dropped the book when Jerry came round the corner, and looked at him as he closed the book when he found no 'lyre' in it. He was a tad bit on edge considering the last time he saw him, he was being blown away by a cannon, but this was a quiet library with no weapons. It also seemed that Jerry was a great lover of music, someone he felt he heard mentioned once but didn't remember.
"I'm trying to find out about some ancient instruments. What is lyre?" He felt a bit dumb asking when he could find it on his own, but this saved time.

"A woman! AHAHAHAhahaha get it cause- um." He cleared his throat, his face going red. "It's an instrument. Like a harp." He picked up the book Melvin had stuffed away curiously. "Wow, yeah, you were off key there-"
He thumbed through the interesting reference of flutes all the same, slowing as he reached a page with a traditional, silver piece. For a moment, he touched the page before snapping the book shut and shoving it away.

For a man who was drinking, Jerry sure laughed a lot and out of the blue. Such a loud noise in the silence of the library made his eyes widen, and he gave a brief laugh nervously before cutting it short. "Yeah. Liar. Um, you wouldn't now about a few other instruments, would you? You see I'm looking up about some goddess and a island about gods and music." He gestured towards a table where a few books were piled in a half circle making Melvin's work area. Even with his time off, he researched deeply into whatever he was looking into.
Areas of power, like how he heard about where the Horsemen lived, had him very curious. It just so happened this one was about music and Jerry was around to know about instruments. Melvin gestured, moving over to his table and turned the book on the island that listed instruments that the ancient goddess and some nymphets played and their entrancing music.
"A few hunters have been looking at portals in the area to get more research and was thinking if they were anything like the horsemen islands I've heard about." Of course he heard how dangerous those islands were and decided just to research for now. He was a trainee after all, but he was invested at the moment in reading deeply about this topic.

An island... of musical gods? Well... if there was a land of Halloween and Christmas* and horseman of the Apocalypse... it wasn't so far fetched. His breath hitched in his throat at the thought of it.
"You're talking to the right man, friend!" Jerry beamed. Alright. This was a good idea. "You think... a place like that really exists? I mean, I guess it makes sense, even if those old religions are dead, there were nations full of that belief at the time." A thought occurred to him, making him look wary, "And old gods were very vengeful gods. Plenty to be afraid of... They could be heavy in Fear. Very dangerous." Although even Joy had it's dangers...
But a land of... of Muses? Any musician worth his salt knew about that sort of thing. Hell, anyone who had taken fourth grade history and payed attention when music and merriment had been mentioned knew about them. The pretty ladies in Disney's Hercules.
With the loss of Sasha he had lost his final muse. He just... needed to find it again.
The man was positively sparkling again with bottled enthusiasm.
* footnote: He tried not to think too hard about what a land of Channukah would be like, he had been trying to fight depression.

"I was awoken just before the horsemen attacks, and thought that, with my weapon gone, to check on Halloween geography and other powerful creatures that might just pop in on us to say hello. Learned a bit about horsemen, then moved on to other things. It's a legit field of study, a few maps here show a few honest attempts at mapping Halloween but..." He gestured to the book of maps to where he had the Weeping woods opened. "...nothing can ever be confirmed as it just moves about on it's own. Nothing stays, and getting places all involves portals like the horsemen islands. They're like...security gates from one place to another - well, I'm assuming." He was a trainee after all, and just a new, little, Lifer making his first baby steps of research.
"This is one of the areas they were looking into. Portals pop up here a lot." He pointed to the maps again but sat slowly down. "Well, I not going there! I'm a trainee. You..." He checked the book as an excuse not to look at him. "...you know how I fight." His aim wasn't great and he barely did damage. If he ran into anything like a Horsemen, he'd die.
"All I can do is research these places. I can't go scouting it out like these guys." He turned a page where more pictures of Latin women danced nude in pictures, playing flutes and harps around dozing monsters. "For now, I just have to wait before doing field work like this."

Jerry leaned over Melvin's shoulder to see what he was reading.
He bit his lip at what he saw, "What if... you had a full hunter with you? You know... for protection?"

Melvin hunched up, not liking anyone so close to his bubble, and even worse having someone read over his shoulder. He bristled like a cat, but only pressed his lips tight before he turned his head just slightly.
Jerry was interested?
"Well..." He looked to the book. "...if we just attempted to check out the area, ...I suppose so. If it got too hairy, we could just go back." Actually, he wanted to take on bigger roles and maybe add in a few files of his own to the database. He didn't feel much like a tech when all he did was fix copiers all day. He needed more credibility and only a contribution, especially one of such important areas, could help the other techs respect him above the rank of just a office lackey who might die any day.
"Do you...want to go scout portals? I mean, there is no guarantee. It could just be a lot of waiting for nothing." But Jerry did have a big gun, a lot of fire power, and he also had experience in the field. If Melvin tagged along and just did the mental work and used the Sun for the job he was intended, muscle, then he could really help his own cause.

"This sounds more productive than more drills all day!" He beamed, "Goodness... could you imagine?" He reached to snatch the book from Melvin's hands in his excitement, eyes locked on those low-flowing togas and milky skinned Muses strumming away at their lyres... "I'm ready when you are!"

Bilious Check. We get 6 rolls each. "N-now?!" He asked the overly-excited Sun. He hadn't been expecting to do field work like this so soon, let alone today and right this moment that he had to take a moment to just state. He wondered if it was a Sun trait to be this impulsive or if Jerry just was so swept up in the idea. While Melvin did want to check it out, he was the type to over-research and mentally prepare, but the Sun was ready and willing now and might not be later.
"Okay. Um, just a moment. He took the map of the weeping woods he felt was generally most preferred and went to copy it, them took the books to return to their spots. Papers in hand, he adjusted his glasses, took a breathe, and gestures Jerry to follow.
When he got to the portals, he checked with a tech who asked what he would be up to in Halloween and was surprised that he would not be taking a golem. Portal opened, he felt his anxiety spike. He'd be entering Halloween as is.
"Ahh, okay. Here we go?" He then stepped though. They were deposited on the other side beside the border of the Weeping Woods. Melvin set his timer, touched the pendant the techs gave him, and started to walk to the woods when Jerry showed up. "We should stand watch somewhere over.... That way."

"I'v never been in Halloween without a gollem before," Jerry whispered as they crept along. He kept Roar desummoned- for now. "We can't be too long or... b-bad things happen." He was just straightening his glasses, surveying the gloomy scenery when something flashed off to his right. Roar was summoned in an instant, pointing frantically at- a portal? "Well... that... that went quick! Ahaha-" Still keeping Roar at the ready, Jerry stepped forward into it's glowing mists.... ... only to come running back out again shortly after while sharpened candycane like spears came flying around him. "NOT THE PORTAL OH GOD THE ELVES-!"

Jerry dusted himself off, taking in a few deep breaths. "Well... we just... have to be careful," He cleared his throat, grimmacing down at the candy canes that stuck out of the grass around them like arrows.
It didn't take long before the swirling light was back again. "Alright... alright just- hang tight here I'll see if it's clear-" He hoped it was.
Warily, he stepped through, poking his head around. He could hear running water. "Er... hello?" He ventured.
The horrible, tentacled thing turned sharply, it's one eye thick with eyelashes and it's suckered tentacles snatched the shower curtain to pull it around itself with a wild scream.
It would take Jerry a long time to get the image of that many breasts out of his head as he scrambled back to land on his but on the grass once more. "That... that wasn't it..." He squeaked.
