The juvenile was wandering through the pride. He had no real destination in mind, he was just wandering around. His sister, 'Dama, was off doing her own thing and his father Kivuli'mwezi was home with their younger half siblings. That was a good reason in and of itself to be anywhere but the den.

He knew that the grownups were muttering here and there, but that was normal. The tone was positive though, and that was always good. Not that Kizev had any idea what his elders were talking about, nor did he really care. If it was important for him to know, someone would take the time to tell him. And 'Dama. Because if he had to know something, so did his twin sister. Even if they didn't spend the vast majority of every day together anymore, they were still very close and people tended to think of them as a set.

For Mziwanda, being in a pride was a very new thing. For much of her (admittedly not very long) life she'd lived with only her parents...but things had changed. And she'd found being around few other lions was a different matter entirely from being alone. Being alone, truly alone with no home or family to turn to at the end of the day...that had been nothing short of terrifying. So while everything was new, and strange, and seemed unaccountably busy on account of so many lions about...it was also safe enough to be allow her to be fascinated by it. More lions meant more stories to learn, after all!

A juvenile's aimless wandering caught her attention, and she tilted her head for a puzzled moment before mentally shrugging and heading in his direction. "Hello!" she greeted, adding a bright smile.

Kizev looked up at the unexpected call, to see who it was and who they were looking at. There weren't many lions around. In fact, there was only him and a purple grownup looking right at him! Oh. She was the one who had called out, and she was talking to him. The juvenile supposed that meant he should talk back to her.

"Hi," he replied shortly, looking up at her. She didn't look like anyone he knew, but it wasn't like he knew everyone in the Mwezi'Johari. He just knew how to pick out cousins and other relatives - and boy were there a lot of those.

Mzi kept smiling. The juvenile seemed nice. Quiet, but nice! It had been an odd feeling to see lions younger than herself, but she liked to think she was getting the hang of communicating with them. "I hope I wasn't interrupting anything! I'm new here--my name's Mziwanda." She perked her ears hopefully at him.

"I'm Kizev," the boy replied shortly, looking Mziwanda up and down. Well, he'd already known she wasn't related to him. He supposed it wasn't much different to learn that she wasn't originally from the pride. He only had an imperfect understanding of what that meant, but he knew that he and 'Dama hadn't been born in the pride either, and wouldn't find out what class they were in until they were adolescents.

"It's kind of hard to interrupt someone if they're not doing anything to begin with," he pointed out. As a juvenile, the young lion had no responsibilities and only slightly more restrictions as to where he could be and what he could do.

"It's nice to meet you, Kizev!" Mzi bubbled happily. "I met some of the other high-class when I woke up, but I don't know many others--and there are so many to know! I don't think I've seen so many lions in all my life." She tilted her head and her smile grew a little wider, if such a thing was possible. "I hope you don't mind keeping me company, then--it's nice to have someone to talk to!"

Lavender eyes widened as the lioness started talking. A lot. Kizev thought she might be talking more than anyone else he'd ever met. True, he hadn't met that many people, but still! SHE TALKED A LOT.

Truthfully, he didn't know how to respond once she finally stopped talking. She wanted him to stick with her for a while? Well, it wasn't like he had anything else to do, and it seemed kind of mean to say "no". The boy sighed.

"Sure, I guess," he answered the not-quite-question.

Mzi merrily chattered on, oblivious to anything but the fact that Kizev was a very good listener. "Great! I've never been in a pride before, you know. Just me and my family, that was growing up for me!" A brief shadow flickered over her face as she mentioned family, but the smile she forced back onto her muzzle became genuine soon enough. "I guess you were probably born here--you must know a lot about the place! What do you think of it?"

Wow, she really did talk a lot. He hadn't ever met anyone who talked that much before, was it because she hadn't been born here? He couldn't say for certain, lacking in experience and information. But then she stopped rambling and asked him questions.

"I wasn't born here," he replied slowly (perhaps all the more slowly because of how much she'd talked), "but I've lived here for as long as I can remember. My dad's here, and all his family."

He wasn't sure that actually answered the question. But then again, he wasn't sure that she really knew what questions she wanted to ask.

Mzi perked up. "Oh really? I'd like to meet them sometime!" Everyone had their own story, after all, and she liked stories. That was definitely the best thing about living with lots of other lions. Well, one of the best things. "Do you like it here?"

Kizev's eyes widened as Mziwanda said she wanted to meet his family. She'd said that there were more lions in the pride than she'd ever seen before...the same would probably hold true for his family alone! Even Kizev hadn't met all his far-flung cousins! She probably didn't even realize what she was saying. So he focused on what she'd asked him.

Did he like it here? That was a strange question. He supposed that, as a grownup, she had chosen to come here. So that must me that she wanted to be here. But he...he was just here. Not that he'd really wondered about much outside the pride lands, he knew such a place existed, but it wasn't of any real interest to the juvenile. An academic problem.

"I don't remember anything else," he answered with a shrug. "Yeah, I like it."

Mzi thought about this for a few moments. He didn't know anything other than the pride, just like she didn't know anything other than rogue life. In that regard they were opposite, and yet similar. "If you want, I could tell you stories about the outside sometime," she offered. "My parents told me a lot of stories."

The boy blinked. She wanted to tell him stories about places outside the Mwezi'Johari? He supposed it would be different, but wasn't certain that he wanted to hear. Why would he ever need to know about places outside the pride lands?

"No thanks," he answered politely. He could always ask his dad for stuff like that.

Mzi's look of complete and utter bafflement was one for the record books. No stories? But...everyone loved stories, right? Surely he...just didn't have time for a story right now, or something. "I...okay," she replied, still at a loss. "What about, um...well, I'm still getting used to where everything is here. Would you like to show me around?"

The white lion cocked his head to the side as he looked up at Mziwanda. She looked so confused at his polite rejection. Well, maybe he just wasn't in the mood for stories, okay? He was allowed!

Now she wanted him to show her around? Well, he supposed he could do that. Kizev took a breath and gave the purple lioness a smile. "Sure. Follow me."

Who knew, maybe he could get into some places a juvenile wasn't usually allowed!
