Restless nights seemed to come and go with more frequency than Valhalla had experienced in the past. There seemed to be some kind of impending danger on the horizon. After the ambush at the senshi and knight meeting, Valhalla had been keeping an eye out for things that seemed out of place. Were the Negaverse and DMC just biding their time now? They'd gone in and killed whomever they could, and now they were just taking a step back to... build their forces?

It was late, and at least a couple hours after Paris had gone to sleep. While his boyfriend could easily go to sleep early and get up just as early, Valhalla felt restless to the point where he sometimes had to leave the apartment they shared.

He'd done just that this night. There was a crispness in the air, the warmth of the day had already been sapped from the earth and an almost icy feel to the air lingered. They still had a while to go before the temperature dropped more, but with the clouds and rain Hurricane Sandy had brought to the Virginia area, they were all experiencing a bit colder weather than usual for that time of the year.

His brother had even made mention of being able to see the snow on the mountains from the campus of Azure Valley High.

There were no sign of youma, but an emerging dark power caught the knight's attention, his compass hanging by his side as he looked up to see if he had company approaching. Oh, how he both hoped it wasn't Painite, and that it was... because he'd like to prove himself as more than a wimpy Page...

The air was getting colder, which mean good and bad things for the General. There were less witnesses about, however it was harder to harvest orbs. However, with more spaced out people wandering the streets, it was easy to pull one person walking alone and sap them of energy, but it also meant that if you went too far that they passed out, you had to leave them someplace warm. Leaving a sleeping person in colder weather was more or less a death sentence. It wasn't something Wolframite cared about, considering he had started as a nega where starseed harvesting was the only way, but he understood the new rules and respected them. He also liked the in-between time of summer and winter, the cool weather of fall, that made his uniform perfect. Warm and in layers, which was hell in summer where he felt too hot, yet didn't feel enough at times during the bitterest of winter days.

For now, he was comfortable and walked with the lazy ease of scenery watching and getting fresh air, however hoping he didn't get sick, and wondered what places were open to pick up dinner that night for him and Billy before they retired for bed. His boyfriend was still at work late and he wanted to surprise him with dinner.

As he patrolled, he felt a energy signature not of true order but not of chaos. It was one he was still adjusting to, and he paused before heading to it, stopping when he spotted someone in the distance, moving slowly closer, before he noticed something.

"I didn't expect to see you again."

”General,” the knight greeted in surprise. Wolframite still looked young and weary, but there was something different about him now than the last time he’d seen him. It was almost as if something had changed... for the better, perhaps? Maybe in his personal life? Or maybe he just decided to take better care of himself.

There was a certain glow about the teenager, but what it was, he couldn’t pinpoint.

He also couldn’t help the fact that he was genuinely happy to see him, to see he was still alive and uninjured... or at least he didn’t look that way.

“How are you?” he asked, probably a bit too familiarly and friendly than he really should. But there were differences about himself, too. He no longer felt immediately threatened by Wolframite’s energy, and that made Valhalla feel all the more comfortable in talking to him.

It was surprising sometimes, realizing how much he’d grown as a knight over the past year... but he was pretty sure he would be able to hold his own in a fight against a General should he not be able to talk himself out of it...

If Painite attacked him again, he would be able to do more than just cower and try to get away...

The signature was different, and he noticed the change by looking at the knight. Looking about, he took note there was no other chaos signature about, and was glad for it. Looking back, he smiled. "Well enough for doing the same thing I did last we met." He felt he was making very little progress, but since things weren't getting worse, it at least meant they were keeping the field even.

He regarded the man before him, his outfit and demeanor, and gestured at his attire. "You've changed."

Valhalla smiled lightly, glad to hear the General was fairing as well as he could. He hated that there were such young people in this war... as if he wasn't still young, himself.

Of course, once it was pointed out that he had indeed 'changed', Valhalla's smile turned awkward and a bit sheepish, and he reached up to take off his helmet and pat nervously at his hair, trying to get it looking okay. "Ah, yeah..." he mumbled lamely, not really knowing what Wolframite thought about his change. Did he take it as a threat? Did he think he was someone to be dealt with now?

"Only in appearance... I still just want peace..." he clarified, just in case.

It was a note of conversation, but it was also that he was aware of threats. Anything gaining power, getting closer to his own bar, was a concern. A friend today could easily be a friend tomorrow. "I hope that lasts. I would hate to chop you up into ragged pieces." The soft smile that came with it was not one that said he was joking on this matter.

He still had to smile at the idea of peace. It was one he had hoped for, but the reality was that he knew this was war and peace would come when all the senshi were either corrupted or destroyed.

"How goes your mission of peace? Any progress?"

"Not as much progress as I'd hoped for, with that mentality," Valhalla told him, his smile falling at the threat. "Why the hell would you say something like that? You know I want peace, and yet you..." He stopped, unable to finish. The way he smiled as he said spoken... that was not what he wanted.

"You know what...? I thought you were different from the rest of them," he said softly, obviously hurt. Maybe he was wrong in speaking to him. He was just as brainwashed with bloodlust as all the others. Hands followed the lines of his helmet, knowing that after a threat like that, he would be better off putting it back on. But right now, he felt the best thing to do was just... walk away.

While Valhalla would admit to being happy to see Wolframite well just a few moments prior, he was deeply disappointed in him, now.

"If you were in danger, I would have defended you," he admitted, a sickening feeling in his gut now. "But heaven forbid you take my gesture of goodwill as a threat to your well being... That little comment you felt the need to add? That's why we can't have peace, because there's always fear and hate being forced into this world. Knock it off."

He was rather alarmed by the knight's sudden change of attitude, and he looked down a moment, considering what he said, before he looked back up, insulted that he had been made to feel bad. "I was only stating the obvious. It wasn't like I was going to kill you." He huffed, stepped closer to him.

Then he spoke of peace, and he only felt more enraged that he was acting as if he knew nothing. "Don't play like I know nothing. I've been in this for years of my life." He reached up, tearing the eyepatch to show the black, empty orb that was his eye. "This is why it's personal. I never said YOU were a treat to me. I'm glad you're not. I don't need more people trying to light be on fire." He snarled back.

"The Blood Moon Court was a small, insignificant fraction of the senshi as a whole. They've been disbanded and are now working with you under the direction of Ares, unless I'm mistaken," he said, having flinched back slightly upon seeing Wolframite's face. He was overcome with sympathy for him, as he always had been. He knew there had to be something worth saving under all the hate and chaos if the General had been willing to speak with him and not try to kill him as Painite had.

He wanted to be able to work with him... if only they could get on the same terms without throwing around threats, empty or not. Promises written in blood, revenge on the forefront of one's mind... that wasn't going to solve anything.

"You're working with them! We've seen them on your side when our meeting was ambushed a few months ago!" he spoke with a plea in his voice, as if trying to get Wolframite to see reason in his own distress as a knight and friend to others. "Is that what you want? You're okay with being on the same side as murders and torturers? Because where are they now? Those who hurt you? Have you seen them? Have you spoken to them? Believe me, those who are left who think this kind of senseless violence is okay have been outcast from our own ranks. And if you see them," he continued, his anger towards those who had done these horrendous acts heightening, "Then point them out to me, because I would damn well like a word with them."

Not all the DMC were bad... he knew that and he would willingly defend Remarque if it ever came down to it, but those who had followed Ares, who had been corrupted even further than they had been... that was were the problem lied.

"Of course I know! The moment I saw them on our side, don't you think it tore us apart. To have them there, the few of us that managed to survive. Tanzanite even. I would have done anything to see them destroyed, but not at the price of becoming a traitor to all that rely on my and depend on me to stay loyal. I have my own people and loved ones to look after. Doing that for my own selfish needs would have destroyed all I worked hard for and everything, all those years, that I've sacrificed. I can't have that happen." He was furious with himself and the entire situation, not realizing how easily he confessed himself to an outside of the Negaverse, but he wanted to make it clear to everyone. Wolframite was no friend to the Dark Moon Court.

"There is nothing I can do about them aside from making sure they don't hurt my own people. They're being watched if they ever do screw up again. That's all I can do." It was all that he was allowed to do. Anything else and he'd be stripped of his powers. The only thing that made his life now aside from Billy, and how long could he be around his boyfriend if he was just reduced to a nobody again? The jealousy for that power Billy had would kill him.

His hand clutched his eyepatch tightly before he looked at it and slowly moved to put it back in place. "Not everyone is happy with those they work with. I'm sure even your side has it's dramatics."

”Tanzanite...?” he mumbled softly in confusion, not knowing who Wolframite was talking about for a few moments, but then remembered a few things of what Lily and Zia had told him. A woman who was half human and half monster. Surely there had to be more to it than just that, and Valhalla didn’t want to start delving into things of which he knew very little.

But what he couldn’t understand was why the Negaverse would try and work with a group who had tried to literally tear them apart...?

“Why...?” he couldn’t help but ask, this time louder than the mumbled name, clearly wanting a response from the General. “Why does the Negaverse do such things?? Why torment your own people by forcing them to work with those who have hurt and killed them in the past??”

Unless it was some kind of alliance... but who was scared of who...?

“Are the Dark Mirror Court really that powerful? Powerful enough that the Negaverse has to ally itself with them instead of destroying them? It seems like that’s the common theme, anyway. Kill everything and don’t ask questions.”

It seemed... terrible... Heartbreakingly terrible to exist for the sole purpose of following orders.

“I prefer not to call it ‘sides’, but yes, there has been plenty of... dramatics. But with our dramatics, it’s because we’re allowed an opinion and have the ability to voice and act upon those opinions,” he frowned, knowing he may be crossing into dangerous territory, but he knew he could handle himself. “We don’t follow superior officers like sheep to slaughter by Ares.”

He looked to the side, feeling tired from the emotional conversation. "Only 3 of us lived, and only a handful of us were taken. It's a sacrifice. Numbers matter in war, and to complete a goal we all believe in, those sacrifices have to be made. The enemy of my enemy is my friend even if said new friend once set you on fire." He said, spitting out the last part.

"The rest of us are happy for allies. The senshi grow larger every day and take away our friends. I'm here to protect my planet. I have to not let my own experiences and personal feelings get in the way of winning the bigger picture." The words were recited from someone else, and Wolframite breathed out. "I'm a good soldier." He would remain a good soldier.

He looked back at Valhalla. "If it came to getting what you wanted for everyone and just what you wanted for yourself and putting the goals of everyone behind your own desires, would you do it?" It was a rhetorical question.

Needing to move, Wolframite moved slowly, looking for a place to sit. "The Dark Moon is organized and they add numbers. Numbers matter. We don't kill those who don't interfere or get in our way. Senshi are our enemy. If they do not join, then they are the problem." Again, he was reciting. "I will not have them destroy Earth and the people I love most. We are given a choice to become soldiers so don't call us sheep. I was given that choice." He turned back to look at him. "I choose this."

”You’re a good soldier because you’re not allowed to think for yourself!” Valhalla shot back, trying not to get too sympathetic over what Wolframite was telling him. He felt absolutely awful that people were being killed, regardless of what side they were on, but he still couldn’t understand the need to ally with the DMC after all the BMC did.

He didn’t respond to Wolframite’s question of goals and desires, feeling as though his initial response was too selfish to share. Wolframite wouldn’t understand... the General wanted to end the war, but to do so he was willing to kill... Valhalla wanted peace and an end to the fighting. He wasn’t willing to kill, and he felt that’s what made a huge difference between them.

Possibly even one difference that could never be compromised on.

“Why are senshi the problem?” he asked, his eyes following Wolframite’s movements even though he didn’t immediately follow a well. “What makes you think the senshi are going to destroy the Earth? Don’t you realize they live here?? This is their home! This is where they grew up, this is where their families are, this is where the people they love are! The people they love most are on Earth too, so why the hell would they want to destroy it??” he tried to reason, wondering if the Negaverse were just so brainwashed that they completely ignore the fact that they were all human, they were all just... wanting to survive. <******** whatever happened in the past! There is no Moon Queen, but senshi aren’t given a choice like you were, if that’s what you want to call it. Us knights aren’t given a choice! Don’t you realize that without Chaos corrupting you, you and I would be the same??” He’d been told many things about Lina Knight, including that she had once been an officer of the Negaverse...

“I’ve had memories of Valhalla’s past! The Negaverse was never mentioned in any!”

There mild peace from before was on thin ice as Wolframite felt himself flare up at the shouts back. "I can't forget the past and everyone who died. Who the ******** are you to say I should forget those people and their sacrifices!" All the people of the past earth who were now lost in the ruins of the old Earth Kingdom. The people who had died before his very eyes, from strange forces like Wiseman, to those in battles with senshi, to those of the BMC. He couldn't forget them. He'd been to their unmarked graves.

"Sure they live here NOW, but that doesn't mean they will forever. I've SEEN the ruins of the old Earth, Vallhalla. The Moon Queen turned it all to rubble and made the place a nightmare. She killed everyone that opposed her. I'm corrupted only because that's the word they used to call us what they all felt we were because we didn't follow her reign. I'm proud I don't." And if that was the difference, then Vallhalla was siding with them.

"Moon Queen or not, someone is going to rise up to power and they all have their own planets. I've been off Earth before. The senshi have other places they live. Once they have enough power, they can do whatever they want and take whoever they want with them just like how the Moon used to be. They were born here, but they belong to their own planets and you can't lie to me that they don't. The senshi we have on our side proved that to us."

His hands were clenched in fists, but he didn't hit Valhalla. "We might both be knights, but you're not under my flag yet." His fists were going loose as he looked at the knight. "If we're brothers, why don't you fight for us? If you know about the past, you should feel just as much pain to see the ruins the Earth Kingdom is now in because of what the senshi did."

”I don’t want you to forget!” Valhalla tried once more, realizing that he might have been a little more insensitive than he’d intended. He would never want those who had died to be forgotten. “But I do think there needs to be more than just vengeance and more sacrifices! No one should have to sacrifice themselves if we could just put the past aside and work on what we have now! It’s not too late to change things.”

He felt like he was talking to a rock wall at times. There were things that he felt went right over Wolframite’s head, and he couldn’t figure out a way to get him to see that they were not all that different.

“How do you know it was the Moon Queen that destroyed it?? Have you seen the ruins on the senshi planets? They’re all destroyed! They’re all ruins!” He wanted to show him. He wanted to bring him to what was once the gardens around Ganymede, or show him the pitiful city he could see just outside Valhalla, or even some of the halls in Valhalla, despite the fortress itself being in relatively good shape.

Valhalla could see that Wolframite was getting worked up though... and that wasn’t what he wanted... He wanted peace between them...

“I fight for protecting life, innocent or not... and I fight for protecting this planet. I will not kill... that’s a promise. But you can’t lump all senshi together... Some are bad, but most are good, and they fight for the same thing I fight for... I’ve told you before that we’d fight against a Moon Queen rising up, and we still would fight against anyone threatening this planet.”

He kept his voice lowered now, not wanting to incite any more anger than he already had in the General.
