Name: Mercy Haynes

Nickname: Her father often calls her “Oh Mercy Me,” as a joke on her name

Age: 11

Birthday: April 2nd

Sign: Aries

Gemstone: Diamond

Blood Type: O+

Fav. Food: Pop-rocks and soda (she likes the tingly feeling)

Hated Food: Boiled Spinach

School:  Knightside Elementary

Hobbies:

Tea-Parties: While some might consider 11 a bit old to be throwing tea-parties with any sort of consistency, Mercy has never given them up. She sees no reason why Sir Fuzzington and Lady Floppymuffin can't sit at the table and share a cup of tea with her. Granted, now she's upgraded to actual tea, and is absolutely thrilled when she can rope legitimate people into her soirees (like her brothers or her father).

Collecting Unicorns: Mercy -LOVES- unicorns. If it has a unicorn on it, she will buy it – or make her father buy it. She will barter, beg and bargain to attempt to get a new unicorn for her collection. It doesn't matter if it's a stuffed animal or a ceramic show-piece. If it's a horse with a horn on its head – she wants it NOW.

Reading: Mercy is well-read, and spends a lot of time in her room reading stories. Her favorite are fairy-tails and fantasy stories about brave knights and princesses. In fact, often times her tea-parties become impromptu book-discussions, granted Sir Fuzzington only reads the latest military novel and Lady Floppymuffin isn't fond of anything but romance, so they really aren't the best conversationalists when it comes to books that Mercy likes.

Virtues:

Optimistic: Mercy often looks on the bright side of life. She would rather look at the up-side of things than dwell on how things may not be going according to plan. She tends to view mistakes and failures as learning experiences, and tends to file them away for later. That's not to say she doesn't have her low points. A really big failure, or a very long string of bad things happening – can easily deflate her optimism for a bit. A big factor for her "always-look-on the-bright-side-of-life" attitude comes in no small part from her father and mother spoiling her rotten. Her view is colored to expect good things to happen, and to think otherwise is silly.

Compassionate: Much like her name states – Mercy has a lot of... well... Mercy when it comes to people – and it tends to show in the form of compassion. She will very often go out of her way to make people feel better, even if it means giving up her own time or things to do so. There are limits to this – she won't be pawning her EXTENSIVE collection of unicorns any time soon. But she is inclined to take care of others, and feels bad when a situation doesn't allow her to do so.

Polite: Mercy tries to be polite and well mannered as much as she can. That's not to say she doesn't slip up – especially at home around her brothers. But otherwise, she tries her best to say please and thank you and the other social niceties. She may not always succeed – and its usually a good sign that's she's really comfortable around you if she forgets to be super-polite, but she still tries anyway.

Flaws:

Saccharine: Mercy is sweet – perhaps, too, sweet. She tends to think that the best way to make friends is to be super-sweet and kind and energetic with everyone, often not taking into account that this can come off as really, really annoying or super grating on the nerves. She also tends to abuse this with her father and other authority figures to try and get her way.

Spoiled: Mercy rarely doesn't get what she wants, especially from her father and mother – most of the Haynes children are spoiled, but of them Mercy is the worst. Not that she tends to go overboard with her requests – like asking for a pony for her birthday or something equally ridiculous – but a good portion of her more expensive unicorn pieces are the results of badgering daddy and mommy into buying them for her, since she'd never afford them on her allowance. She is used to getting her way, and can throw a fit sometimes if she can't get her way.

Impressionable: When Mercy latches onto a role-model she wants to be JUST LIKE THEM. She's easily impressionable, and will follow their actions and advice almost to the letter most times. That's not to say that she doesn't think for herself when she's “adopted” a mentor – just that her thinking is clouded by what she thinks they would do.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION

Eyes: Grey, round.

Hair: Rust-red, usually kept in a ponytail.

Face: Heart-shaped face, no freckles, small ears.

Skin: Mocha-brown, with a hint of lighter tones.

Hey! <333 I've taken a look at Mercy and, overall, I can say that you've got a really fantastic, cute character here! She sounds absolutely adorable - can't wait to see her in RP. c:

That said, there are a few things I've noticed; the most major, I would say, is that Mercy reads slightly younger than she actually is. Mostly I'm thinking of the Tea Parties and Collecting Unicorns hobbies - however, I also think that this is somewhat negated by some of her personality traits. All in all, this isn't really a crit; I can definitely see how she could be played to sound her age in RP, and sometimes things just don't translate as well over the form as they do in actual RP! c: But I wanted you to be aware of this, and ask if this is the route you're going to take.

I think her personality reads well and fits together, but I would like to see a bit more interplay between the virtue Optimistic and the flaw Spoiled. In Optimistic you describe how Mercy usually doesn't dwell on the small things that go wrong, but in Spoiled you say that she sometimes throws fits if things don't go her way - I think this can easily be fixed by a small annotation in either trait, that while she doesn't usually dwell on things, requests for material things that are denied are an exception to the rule, or something along those lines. You can definitely make the two traits work together, I have no doubt! <3 It just needs a bit more text to clarify things.

X3 I'm glad you like her!

The sounding somewhat younger than she is is intentional. She is, in a word, sheltered, by her father and isn't as mature as she could be at her age. She also plays it up with her father because she can - because she's "daddy's little girl" but it does carry over a little into her day-to-day life. In a way it could probably be considered a flaw - possibly - but it will definitely come more to light in RP.

I have tweaked Optimistic a bit, so hopefully that fixes the discrepancy.

Thank you for pointing that out!

I totally do! I know I've said it before, but I really do think she sounds absolutely adorable. AND I LOVE ADORABLE CHARACTERS OK /thumbs up

Alright, I'm totally fine with that! <3333

Unfortunately I don't really think what you've added to Optimistic clarifies anything, since it's basically the same thing as you've got written in Spoiled. This is my mistake, I didn't word well enough what I wanted you to do in my last post; basically, I'd like you to explain why she can generally not dwell on the little things, but still throw a fit over things that don't go her way. Are her denied requests a different matter from other things, as far as optimism goes - and if so, why? Or is she actually optimistic because she's spoiled, always expecting that good things will happen to her in life?

Easy enough fix! At least I hope so. I went ahead and expanded on her optimism and the biggest factor of it.

Hopefully that works! If not <.< I am all for tweaking the heck out of this.

Awesome, I love the new edit! <333 The only thing is a small tweak - I think the sentence 'She usually gets what she wants at home, and when she doesn't - it is an extinction level event to her.' isn't needed at all! It fits more in Spoiled, and keeping it in Optimism gives a bit too much negativity for a virtue. But, the new additions work splendidly even without it and something similar is already in Spoiled, so it's an easy fix. <33333

This is a very cute character heart

Unfortunately though, the last sentence in spoiled seems to weaken the flaw into being almost nothing. Being spoiled and throwing temper tantrums when she doesn't get what she wants is a great flaw. But by stating that she can easily tone it down and accept that 'oh well, she isn't getting it this time' makes the flaw into something that I don't think others would necessarily see or dislike her for. Which is something you should always think about when working on a flaw "Is this something that someone ICly could dislike this character for?"

X3 That is a very good point - I certainly wouldn't mind someone who is willing to accept defeat even if they kicked and screamed before then <.<;

I went ahead and cut the last sentence out to make the flaw much more - well flawish.
