I guess I should start with an explanation regarding this thread. Operation Protinus is an upcoming event, and the first in what hopes to be many events in the same nature. In December, Operation Protinus will be the first one day event that focuses on the use of the Kill Team rules as seen in the Battle Missions expansion book.
After some discussion between myself and the Captain of the guild, we decided to start a thread regarding not only the event of Operation Protinus (I'll be posting frequent updates about the specific rules about the day as the days are counted down to the weekend) but also the Battle Missions book itself, including the Kill Team rules featured in the book that out-date the older rules released in the previous rulebook.
Anyway, without further ado, let us open the thread to discussion. I don't really know what else to put, so I'll just open up the Q&A session.

When did the Battle Missions expansion come out? I've been out of the loop for about 8 months or so, I hadn't heard of it before. The last iteration of Kill teams that I knew about was a WD ruleset.

March of 2010.. sweatdrop Heh. sweatdrop So maybe I've been out of it for more than 8 months. sweatdrop I've been away from home for 570 days since March of 2010, give or take a week. How are the new rules for Kill Team applied for the event? Is it team-on-team action, or still kill-team versus the mob?

The rules for the event are a little different. It's team on team action, with every man for himself working as a separate unit so to speak, but still brought from the codex as part of the unit. You get to choose three models to have a universal special rule.

I love being able to give my Terminators some nasty special rules to use in the fights. Terminator with Psyker level 1 and Smite? Yes please.

You get to choose three models to have a universal special rule. Do they all have to be selected from the same unit entry, or can they be pulled from different units? Such as mix-and-matching Eldar aspects?

Dark Elf: They can be selected from different units, so if you wanted a squad of Eldar Dire Avengers alongside Howling Banshees, then you can go ahead and do that as long as you have the points and that you have the minimum requirements for that unit. My Kill Team consists of three Terminators and fifteen Cultists.
Brookman: I'm not sure about regular Kill Team missions like those seen in Battle Missions (I'm getting a copy next week when I get paid) but for the missions on the day, they do allow you to take any universal special rules from the rules. They released an FAQ stating that any model can be given the Psyker special rule making them a level one Psyker with access to the relevant powers listed either in the codex, or from the relevant disciplines listed. Those who do not usually have Psychic powers can take spells from the Pyromancy or Biomancy disciplines. I'm curious to see if anyone with a Tau kill team will use the Psychic discipline. Before I switched to a Night Lords kill team, I was playing with the idea of a Dark Eldar kill team in which my leader is a Psyker.

Well that's the hotel booked, and the paints ready. Now that I'm out of the hospital I can get started. 3 weeks until deadline.
