Name: Jolene Age: 17 Gender: Female Sexual Orientation: Homosexual Craft/Rank: Candidate
History: Jolene was born to a Drudge, Jevelina, and Harper, Noren, at Benden Hold. When he heard that she was pregnant her father wanted nothing to do with her mother or the child. So her mother gave birth to young Jolene without a companion by her side. As a very young child she was raised by the drudges and taught how to be one of the lowest ranking members of the Hold until she started Drudge work at age twelve.
For a while she lived as a simple Drudge and accepted that. It was not until the crafter, Noren ran in to her mother again that her life began to change. The two talked, and made plans to meet again. This continued for a few months and soon the couple was officially together. Not long after they had their second child, a girl named Varla. She became jealous of her sister, the child that got a complete family and had more chances to be something thanks to a harper father being in her life. This kid got attention, family, she got everything. In an attempt to get more attention from her parents she began to attempt to look better, to become beautiful. It was true that she could have gotten an education and form a relationship with her father but she refused to give him a chance, thinking he would reject her right away.
As she got older Jolene began to question her place, anger brought to surface by the jealousy for her sister. Why was she a drudge? Why couldn't she ride a gold dragon like the girls in all those songs? While this went on she began to change. As she got older she began to notice that she was attractive when she looked in the mirror. So she started to act like it. This progressed until she was actively acting like she was better than others. Her new attitude caused issues for her, such as being given extra work and losing most of her friends. It was a miserable time for her, a time that served to harden her.
However, it was not until she saw a hatching that it reached its climax. At thirteen Turns she was visiting Telgar Weyr with her father. A hatching was coming and, in an attempt to bond with her, her father decided to take her to see. He was supposed to play at the hatching feast so when the dragon came to pick him up he simply asked if he could bring his daughter. That day she saw a gold hatch and Impress to a girl, a candidate that had come from some hold. That was when jealousy entered her, jealousy for all the girl would surely get. She decided that one day she would be a Goldrider, the most important person in the Weyr. No more sleeping with the drudges, no more cleaning other peoples messes.
At fourteen Turns old she was searched and became a Candidate. Upon arriving at the weyr she had expected that there would be plenty of young men her age, and possibly one that she would end up in a relationship with. Yet she didn't find herself attracted to any of the men as Benden as time passed and, much to her horror, noticed herself staring at a girl. Deciding to ignore relationships for the time being she began to focus solely on her candidacy. For three turns they stood and failed to Impress. Jolene only stood when there was a gold egg. Between clutches she practiced weaving as an apprentice under one of the weyr's crafters. When the revolution occurred she was less than pleased, in fact she hated it. Things were the way they were for a reason, those little nobodies had no right to try and change things. She was one of the people evacuated from Bended and was sent to Trine as a candidates.
Description: Jolene has a tall and slender build, standing at five feet seven inches. Her limbs are of a decent length, not too long and not too short. In fact, her entire body is proportionate. She makes constant effort to keep her skin in top condition, and it shows. It is a nice pale white without many visible blemishes. What do appear tend to be on her forehead and and quickly covered up by whatever means she can find until they heal. A nice sprinkle of color appears on her face in the form of full, pink lips and lightly colored cheeks. Her eyes are large, round, and green. Long blonde hair goes down to her waist. It is very light in color, edging in on white-blonde. There is a slight curl to it, giving it a nice wavy appearance.
When it comes to clothes Jolene loves the glamorous. Whenever she has the chance she will wear dresses, the more extravagant the better. It is only partly because of how they feel, a big reason for her liking dresses is so she can rub her looks in other people's faces. As for colors she tends to favor gold, partly because she wants to look like someone powerful and partly because it goes good with her hair. Most of her fancier clothes are gifts from her father though. Hair that she likes to keep either long and wavy or in a braid.
Personality: Jolene is beautiful, something she always tells herself. After all, she has to be. The beautiful people get everything. They are the Ladyholders, the Queenriders. So she is vain, paying a large amount of attention to her appearance. She always has to look absolutely perfect, someone to be envied. This vanity is not all there in order to make herself more successful either. The truth is she is incredibly egotistical, in her mind she truly is perfect. When talking about herself she doesn't even bother to pretend to be humble, instead making it clear that she thinks she is better than most everyone. Because she is perfect she deserves everything she wants. Thanks to this mindset she does not hesitate to take whatever she decides she fancies, be it a person or a object. It doesn't matter what others might claim to need as long as she gets what she wants.
Jolene is opinionated, especially when it comes to the inner workings of the Weyr, her Weyr. While she has an opinion on everything about it what she concerns herself with most as a candidate is dragons, notably colors and girls riding male dragons. Of course the color that she will impress will be gold, she just can't picture any other thing. After all, she is perfect, and the perfect girls get gold. In her mind golds and bronze are the only two colors worth anything. browns, blues, and greens are below them in every aspect. Sure, they are dragons, but much lesser dragons. Like little ants milling about, serving their superiors. Along with this she believes the women should only ride gold, it worked for many turns and will continue to work in the future. According to her there is something wrong with women on male dragons, there has to be for them to Impress a male. In her eyes they are nothing but the scum on the bottom of her shoe, mutants, if you will. As for the Atypical colors? She simply pretends that they aren't there. In her mind they should have been left in those dud eggs to die. There is a reason that they weren't able to hatch on their own, they're weak, they are unnatural, they are wrong.
The idea that she might not Impress is currently only a whisper in the back of her mind, not something that she has actually considered. As such she does not currently have a plan for if she does not Impress. Getting a dragon is currently one of the things that matters most to her and is an obsession. Her refusal to come up with a backup plan is something that could very well hurt her in the end.
Jolene is mean. When given the chance to tear someone down she will, just to make herself feel better than them. She tells herself that they deserve it, they deserve all the mocking and cruel words. Still, every now and then a seed of doubt trickles in. That maybe what shes doing is wrong, maybe they really don't deserve it. Maybe people can't control what dragon they Impress to. Maybe she is just being a monster. Most of the time when she thinks of things like this she pushes it out of her mind and continues with what shes doing. When she does think about it it is only for a moment before she tells herself that shes being ridiculous. All her life Jolene has told herself not to have any remorse for her victims, she isn't about to let herself start now.
Although it might not seem like it Jolene does care sometimes. This mainly occurs in one situation, romance. She wants to be loved and cared for, valued for who she is and considered precious. When she finds someone that treats her like this she will cling to them, turning them in to her emotional anchor. They are the one person she considers equal to herself, the one person she allows herself to truly care about. Should this person leave her she could very well begin to unravel. This is the person she puts all her trust and caring in to, loosing them would leave her alone in the world, a pain that she does not think she would be able to bear.
Jolene tells herself that she likes men whenever she sees a decent looking one, trying to force herself to be attracted in him and try flirting. After all, she can't be attracted to women. Only women that like men get golds and she has to get her gold. It doesn't matter how beautiful and graceful they are, she simply can't be attracted to them. She tells herself that she doesn't care for women like it is a fact, yet sometimes she can't help but feel like she's trying to convince herself.
Other: Nope

Hey there! You've got a great start here but there's a few things to address before I can approve her.
- Her location. There's no reason somebody from Fort would end up at Trine. Candidates can't request transfers, they stay wherever they were Searched to. If you want her to have a northern background however she can be native to Benden Hold, and later to have been Searched to Benden Weyr. Due to events of the meta plot - i.e. Benden's fall - a lot of people of all ranks relocated to Trine.
- I don't understand why it was that Jolene was excluded from the family unit when her father returned. Why didn't he start to educate her too? If you could explain this point that would be great.
- I'd also like to hear about what she thought of the revolution and the events leading up to it. If she was at Benden Weyr these events will have been relevant to her: The last clutch contained twin golds who both Impressed safely. The Senior Weyrwoman was murdered, leading to a long investigation. A master ancient crafter ran a demonstration (not at the Weyr) of a device he had managed to restore, which was supposed to destroy thread. This was a diversion however, used to draw a lot of people out of the Weyrs so that the revolution could take place. Benden Weyr fell very quickly and a lot of people evacuated to Trine. Trine is now rather overcrowded and a lot of its buildings have been destroyed, but the rebuilding of the Weyr has just begun.
- Her appearance and personality look fine to me! If you can just address those history issues she should be good to go.

- Just noticed something else! As a drudge, or candidate, she wouldn't have the marks to buy herself fine clothes. Anything gold would be incredibly expensive especially, and a long way out of her reach.

Fixed. :3 The clothes are generally gifts from her mother, or her father in an attempt to form a relationship with her.

Okay! If you could just make a brief note that they're presents from her father (again as a drudge her mother wouldn't have the money) that should be fine. I would discourage gold though because it is -very- expensive. Some gold trim would be alright, but not fully gold.
I'll approve her now but please stick that amendment/note in somewhere!
