Welcome to the second Race! Althea will be hosting, so listen up! The Owsla-marli doesn't care to repeat herself. Best of luck, and Frith-speed!
The second day started much the same as the first. Another day, another group of rabbits, and Crow waiting at the scrapes themselves. She couldn't see him from this distance but had checked with him earlier and knew he was ready.
No sense dawdling then.
"Alright. Whether you were here or not yesterday, pay attention. Today you'll be racing to the scrapes on the far side of the Down. As many of you know there's two ways to get there. You can either cut straight from here to there and deal with the bramble and scruff in some places. Or-"
And with this she looked in the direction of the scrapes, but indicated a little further east.
"You can move a bit out of your way in that direction along the edge of the Down where there's less in your way. A clearer path might offer you better top-speed, but the shorter distance the straight path might be worth the obstacles."
For a moment she pondered on giving some speech about how runners will encounter such choices in their actual work and there's not always a right answer but the marli shook her head and he silly thought cleared away. Frith, she was getting old and soft. If they made it into the runner ranks they'd be told all that anyway if they didn't already know. And who wanted a runner that couldn't think? -----------------------------------------------------------------
How to Play
- There are two different paths available to you, the short and hard way, or the long and easy way. - You will post a total of ten times, at your own speed is fine. - FOR THE SHORT WAY in each post roll 2 d4's - FOR THE LONG WAY in each post roll a d10 just as last time - Please write at least one line of RP in each post - You may edit your post to include the rp, but if you delete your post you will be disqualified
More Info
- There will be 5 races held - Your rabbit must place in the top three for three races (don't have to be consecutive) to be re-colored on the runner lines - There will be hazards in some of the races, and there is a chance your rabbit could die
Rules
- DO NOT DELETE YOUR POSTS (and yes, I can see if you do that) - You must use the rabbit you want to become a runner as the rabbit in these races - In the event of a tie in scores, the person that finished rolling first will be ranked higher. - If you mess up, forget to roll, etc etc. QUOTE THE MESSED UP POST and post again with your roll
WHAT YOU CAN WIN! (everyone's favorite part)
- Place in the top 3 in three races and your rabbit will become a Runner! - - Every time you place in the top 3, you'll earn a piece of Flay-rah! (unless you win three times, and wish to turn your rabbit into a Runner. If that rabbit continues to enter races and wins you'll earn flay-rah for additional races) - - Participate in all five races and you earn a piece of Flay-rah! -
WARNING! - Although this race is a safe one and there will be no fatalities, it IS POSSIBLE IN FUTURE RACES THAT A RABBIT CAN BE KILLED

TO BE COMPLETELY CLEAR
No, your rabbit cannot die in this race
There are TWO different paths you can take.
The SHORT WAY is difficult terrain, roll two d4's in each post for 10 posts (your final score can be anywhere from 20-80) You will be hindered by bramble, bushes, and loose earth
The LONG WAY is easy terrain, roll a d10 per each post for 10 posts (your final can be anywhere from 10-100) The path is clear but more winding, going around the obstacles rather than through

Underwing hadn't participated in the last race... But she wasn't about to sit this second one out. The young, white doe, in all her black-spotted glory, sat on her haunches and surveyed the courses with her dark, chocolate eyes. This would be fun! Sure, running would be dangerous, but these races were meant to be a show of skill and somewhat of a game. The doe, one of Cowslip's litter, stretched every muscle. Which path to take? Well, a straight line is the shortest way.
Mind made up, the youngster sped across the course.

Well, it was an average start! The doe smirked to herself, her paws speeding across the more tame part of the course. She'd yet to meet the brambles that would most likely hinder her.

She picked up speed. She was heavy set, much like her father, though not quite as big. Hutch life had done that to him, whereas she was wild born and raised. She was leaner and, in her mind, probably faster as well. Better suited.

Oxlip had warmed up beforehand, running a few laps around the warren, and when Althea explained the challenge he decided on the shorter way. It would be a good way to test his skill and he silently hoped that the slowpokes would pick the easier route. The crowd had been an issue last time around, and he'd much rather dodge terrain.

Oh, well that was embarrassing! During her speeding, a bramble caught her side, giving her a small scratch. She should have been prepared for the pain, but it still caught her off guard and she faltered slightly.

It wasn't a fantastic start, and Oxlip was a bit annoyed to be left in the dust by his own sister. Oh, well.

She wasn't going to let a tiny thing like a scratch ruin the race for her, though. Underwing sped up, weaving through the brambles, ignoring the thin scratch on her side.

Her paws were starting to ache a little, but she wasn't going to let that stop her. She did her best to pick up speed, hoping for one last burst of energy before the end.
