Mheetu was heading towards a wide rock formation near Pride Rock where he'd agreed to meet Mia. He’d thoroughly brushed his mane – something that had earned him a great deal of mocking from the two brothers that had caught him at it – and so he was just a tiny bit late. He couldn’t walk too quickly or he’d ruin all his efforts but this was only the second time he was meeting the chocolate lioness which left him a little anxious. As someone who had spent most of his youth feeling anxious, this was not a pleasant feeling… even it was a little nostalgic. It had been a while since anything inside the pride’s borders had made his heart rate race and this was an entirely new situation for the young Scout.

The last time he’d met the lioness, they had ended up eating together after a brief chat. Now they were purposefully meeting each other and Mheetu could not deny the excitement that filled him today even if he wasn’t completely aware of what was making him feel this way. As the Scout spotted the rock formation, he pushed forward at a quicker pace.

Mia stood near the rock formation they had decided to meet at. She paced nervously, spending her time and trying to distract her mind by counting the rocks. 1..2..3..4. There were four there, and 5 behind it, meaning 9 in total for this area, times by four.. 36, of various sizes. However if she went into organizing them by size she supposed her mind would be too far off into the clouds to focus properly later. Instead she directed her maroon eyes to the horizon, to look for Mheetu.

She was nervous, very nervous indeed, but it was coupled by excitement. This was not her first time on a "date", she had been seeing Kubwa, but they had decided to go their separate ways after a few meetings, and that was a long, long time ago, Mia had barely been an adult. She paced gently, wondering if that was him she could see in the distance?

As Mheetu spotted the lioness in the rock formation he was torn between pure glee and a chastising feeling. He was late! It was a terrible first (second?) impression to be late on one of their first meetings! He sprinted to the rock formation and then climbed up with a few quick steps.

“Sorry I’m late!” he said quickly, his embarrassment plainly visible in his expression. The Scout didn’t really understand why he was feeling so nervous this time when he had been completely relaxed during their first meeting. It was strange how things worked but the more he thought about how he was spending some time alone with Mia, the more jittery he seemed to become. She was looking down when he hopped next to her. "What are you doing?"

She looked up to Mheetu and chuckled nervously, also hoping to calm him. "Don't worry!" She smiled gently. His mane looked good! What had he done to it? "You look n-nice, by the way." Mia gently nudged his arm, in a kind of awkward nuzzle before looking back to the rocks.

"O-Oh I was just counting, I do that sometimes, I like to calculate stuff too." Some found it odd, but her father had always encouraged it, he was a rather wise and curious man himself, though. "How have you been, anyway?" She guessed that if she kept talking, they would both become less embarassed.

Well, if Mheetu had seemed nervous at first, he certainly perked up at her comment. After all the time he’d spent taming his mane, it definitely felt good to be praised.

“Counting…?” Mheetu couldn’t really find anything strange about it as he had a younger brother who had managed to invent his own little language. And with an impressive amount of family members around him, one could say Mheetu was used to quirky habits as well as small signs of genius. “So… pretty and clever. Your father must’ve had it bad when you became an adolescent.” He chuckled, giving her a playful wink.

“I wasn’t doing much, really. Patrolling can be pretty boring, actually.” He rolled his shoulders, starting to make his descent from their perch. “Let’s see if the other hunters brought some zebra back. I haven’t had zebra in ages!”

Mia blushed and returned his playful comment. "Thankyou, but I'm sure your mother must have worried about you womanizing with that mane!" She chuckled in turn, and nodded gently.

"Boring, how so? Does it get monotonous like hunting does?" She tilted her head. She could understand how the activity in the Pridelands had dwindled, but there was assuredly no concern from drama of Hyena-war caliber.

"I haven't had zebra in a while either, I think, there seems to be plenty of antelope around this season. If not I could always try and find us one?" Mia twitched her head in the direction the hunters usually brought back the food too. "Wanna go see?"

“She won’t know about it anytime soon. I’ve learned my lesson after being caught by my brothers. I’m going to be hearing from them for a very long time, I’m sure.” Well, as far as he was concerned, it was worth it. Mheetu stretched his body discreetly as he reached the ground before he spoke again.

“Yeah, it’s pretty boring sometimes. Even more than hunting, I think. There are days when nothing happens.” Mheetu continued with an expression that most almost serious. “And I mean, nothing.” He let out a sudden string of chuckles, looking fairly amused. “There are fun days too, I guess. I’ve met a lot of interesting rogues who were passing by. Sometimes, they even stay…!”

He liked to think he’d made such a good impression of the pride that some lions couldn’t help but want to stay and he felt somewhat proud of it. The pride’s numbers had grown exponentially after the war and Mheetu liked to think he’d played a small part in the phenomenon. The Scout nodded at her last question.

“I didn’t think hunting could be boring, too…” he considered aloud, walking in the direction Mia had pointed out.

"Aha, your brothers caught you grooming yourself did they? Not very manly of you." She taunted him gently. "I'm joking, of course, Mheetu, it shows you like to make an impression, at least." The chocolate lioness winked as he had earlier, and giggled.

"Sometimes it is, sometimes it isn't, usually its the same routine, just in a slightly different place, or maybe its the same prey?..." Mia mused aloud. "I suppose sometimes you just need something more, something different." She trotted along at a pleasant pace next to Mheetu,

"Im sure you make a great impression on them, personally, I think you're a great ambassador for the Pridelands, a big family, a good heart..." She cast her maroon eyes downwards awkwardly for a moment and trailed off, but then brought them up to meet her male companion. "It's a big place, and its great to have many new faces, though." Turning the conversation into something generic was a trick she learnt from her dad, it avoided embarrassing situations usually, but she wasn't too sure if she wanted to utilize it in this situation. She didn't feel herself shying away or wanting to hide anything.

The Scout chuckled at the light teasing. Mheetu thought he was used to being complimented by a female considering his mother had always been very supportive of her cubs so he was surprised to find that the same kind of compliments coming from someone outside his family, left a much greater impact than he’d expected. He looked down for a few moments, doing his best to hide his embarrassment and keep his tone even.

“Yeah, I guess the routine gets to you…” Apparently, compliments weren't the only thing that differed when it came who was giving them. The place where she'd nudged him before was still shivering lightly, almost as if that almost imperceptible numbness made the Scout painfully aware that the two of them had touched just a few moments before. “So… umh… family aside…. Do you have anyone that you’re particularly close to?” He regretted his question at once, already fearing the answer but he braced himself for all possible outcomes. He just felt like this was a very important question at the moment – and the reason as to why it was so terribly important to get this little tidbit of information out of the way was slowly becoming clear to the young Scout. Still, his words had been deceptively light and carefree as if he might be inquiring about simple friendships so he was leaving her with a way to easily avoid answering him if she so wanted (though there was a chance she might actually miss his true intentions).

Mia paused for thought. "Not really, not anymore." She wondered what context the question as asked in. She had alot of acquaintances but not many she was particular close to. Some friendships seemed to be painstakingly short lived. "There was someone once, but he wasn't my mate." She decided to take the question deeper, and thought about Kubwa. They had started to see each other and hoped to become more than friends, but it just didn't work out. Oddly, for some reason this encounter was making her think back to those days.. "What about you?" Mia doubted that Mheetu would be alone, he was such a lovely friendly guy that she expected him to have a big circle of friends, and maybe something more. She felt a little cautious even to ask.

Mia’s words caused a small revelation in the young Scout because he realized quite abruptly what he was feeling when he heard her talk about another lion. Jealousy. It wasn’t too difficult to understand its source now that he was paying a little more attention and, as a reserved lion in his youth, Mheetu wasn’t quite as dim to his own feelings as most of his brothers. When the question was sent right back at him, he didn’t have any difficulty answering.

“No, I never had anyone that close. You know, family aside.” … like he’d said before. He had noticed how lionesses seemed to act differently around him now but none had ever approached him or vice versa.

Before he started repeating himself any further or blurting out silly things, the Scout made a small effort to breathe out slowly and relax. He’d been feeling so confident lately, it was surprising to see his newfound confidence being so easily challenged by one lioness. One very sweet, pretty and special lioness. Alright, so maybe it did make some sense.

“So, it’s okay if we continue to see each other like this…?” he finally said, after a brief moment of gathering the courage to be a little bit more direct.

The chocolate lioness felt her heart do an excited backflip, and grinned. She would harbour a guess that Mheetu felt the same for her, too then. How sad that no-one had ever been close to him though! She found him to be such a handsome lion.

"Yes, of course." She moved forward to give him a quick gentle nuzzle, nothing too intrusive or long winded, but something with feeling all the same. "I'd like that."

"Now," Mia giggled. "I'm starving! Lets go eat," They were approaching the area of the usual feasting, and the lioness has been saving her appetite for this occasion. She walked on slowly, still giddy from his company.

Mheetu grinned, his head lifting up a bit as his confidence shot up. He felt comfortable enough to give Mia a little nudge in return and kept walking forward with a little bounce to his steps.

“I’m a little hungry myself.” He admitted, winking at her with a wide grin still in place as they reached their destination. The Scout felt his heart was about burst out of his chest as it beat so fast. Mheetu felt immensely happy in that moment and he looked forward to the future, hoping the Mia would remain by his side for many days more.
