As we all know, new members in particular, our profile format is very complicated. We've kept it as simple as we can, but it still ends up being confusing for many. Thus, a guide is often needed to get through it. So, as I have done for our previous two formats, I have decided to write up such a guide. This guide will attempt to explain each detail of the format in proper depth, without being too confusing or boring. Please, let me know if any part has been too confusing and I will go back and edit it. If you're still having difficulties even after reading the full guide, you may pose any questions about the profile creation process in this thread. Someone should be available to answer you fairly quickly. If not, you may quote myself or Gregar828, and we'll see about your problem.
Without further ado, the profile.
Profiles are split into several sections, each covering a category of your character. First, is Character Info. This is quite simply a description of your RPC. (You may also add your own additional segments to this area, such as personality, since many like to include that, theme music, or anything else you care to include.
The first part of this to worry about, in character name and image. While these are basic, mistakes are occasionally made, so I will briefly cover them. For character name, you will see a large mass of code at the top of the profile. Replace the C with the first letter of your first (Or last, depending on whether you use eastern or western style.) name. “haracter” then is replaced with the rest of the name. N, in the next block of code becomes the first letter of your last (Or again, first.) name, and “ame” the rest. If you have chosen to have only one name, you can remove the last name section by deleting the entire block from size 24, to the /size before imgright.
For character image, simply delete “” and replace it with a direct url to your image of choice.
Now, the majority of the fields in this section are entirely self explanatory, so I'm skipping them entirely. If you are confused by any of them, feel free to ask in this thread.
Character background may be written in the given slot, or, if you fancy a larger background than will readily fit there, pop on over to the The Stories of Our Lives: Shinobi Backgrounds subforum, and you can make an entire thread there for yourself. If you choose that method, simply paste a link to your new thread in the given slot, within URL brackets.
Next we have Shinobi Info. This is where most of the truly important information about your character, as a shinobi, is found.
Appropriately, we begin at your home village. All shinobi begin as a member of a village, unless given express permission by a captain level member of crew. You may pick from any of the currently open villages. Closed villages are marked as such on their subforum link, and possibly on their profile thread as well. If a village is closed yet unmarked, the profile judge will alert you to it and ask you to choose a different village. (A list of open and closed villages can also be found here, though it is not always up to date. Check the most recent update date before trusting it.)
Next, we have organization. Again, unless given express permission, you will not start as an organization member. Organizations include such groups as Akatsuki (For the record, Akatsuki does not yet exist in this guild, and never has. Please keep that in mind when Rping.), Otogakure, and any village's ANBU.
For rank, again, unless you have been authorized as an autorank, you will start as a genin. For the most part, this guide assumes you are a genin as well. Rules governing autoranks however, can be found here.
Titles are generally obtained through RP. As your character advances, becoming more famous within your village, and even in the outer world, they may pick up nicknames that people recognize them by. These are titles. (Please don't give yourself a title at genin. While there is no express rule against it, it is seen as egotistical and makes some of us rage inwardly.) Most titles will be given by your kage. If you have a title you'd like to have, you can even ask your kage (Not in the RP, as that would be silly.), and they may allow it, if they feel your character has earned it.
Headband style, color, and location, are aesthetic choices for you to make. If you just want a default blue headband, just put down ordinary. If you want a golden crown that spits fire forming the symbol of your village in the air, well, that won't be allowed, but you're free to try. Alternate styles are what that section is for, such as turning it into dog tags, or a glove plate. Location is simple enough as well. Is your headband style one tied to your head, or your leg? Do you wear it as a belt? Or did you choose a glove, and put it on your right hand, or left?
Chakra color is also purely aesthetic. Some bloodlines are able to see the color of a person's chakra, and some jutsu and bloodlines even release chakra into the air, showing it in the user's color. What color it is, is entirely customizable for you.
~ ~ ~
And now, we're getting into the more important parts, that have real bearing on what sort of shinobi you become.
Chakra level comes first. It fairly well explains itself, but for simplicities sake, unless you have a bloodline or demon, you have low chakra. Currently those are the only way to surpass that level. Bloodline members, excluding the clan head, get medium chakra, and clan heads and bijuu hosts, get high.
The modifier is a bit more complicated however. Low chakra gets no modifier. For medium chakra, the modifier is always 3/10. This means you get three extra chakra points per ten total. (Default chakra levels can be found in the chakra system.) High chakra for clan heads is 5/10, or five per ten. Bijuu each have their own special modifier, which can be found in the chakra system (These values will also soon be moved to the bijuu thread instead.)
Chakra points is, quite simply, your total chakra points after all modifiers have been counted. Remember to come back to this later if you've added anything that says it changes these values.
Chakra elements are what element you are able to use naturally. As a genin, you will normally only have one, unless you have chosen a combination element bloodline, or a demon has given you a bonus element. Unless your bloodline dictates otherwise, you may choose any of the five basic elements (Or a village specific element.) as your element. You also attain a second element at chuunin rank, and a third at jounin, unless, again, other parts of your character specify otherwise. Always remember to read all of a bloodline, demon, or profession's info before taking it, to be sure you know exactly what you're getting into.
Extra chakra elements are very much like basic, but gained unnaturally. Elements stolen by sharingan, granted by a demon, or from a stolen heart using the tendril bloodline all count as extra elements. If it comes from anything but bloodline or profession bonuses, it is an extra.
Chakra control covers any bonuses or penalties to your chakra control you have. Many types, professions, and bloodlines will grant bonuses or inflict penalties upon this stat, and for convenience sake, they should all be recorded here. Simply copy the part of a given type or other bonus that affects your control and paste it here. Remember, bonuses of like kind do NOT tack, but penalties always will. So, don't bother taking two chakra control enhancing types, unless they have alternate bonuses that you like, because the control won't stack. Any penalties you get though, will build up.
Learning bonuses are exactly the same as chakra control, but attributed directly to your learning speed instead of chakra.
~ ~ ~
Now we have sections you have a bit more immediate control over. Shinobi types begin this final stretch of shinobi info. Shinobi types are very important, though you can only have two by default. They offer various bonuses to your character's abilities, but often include penalties as well. Good choices in these can create some very powerful combinations, especially when put together with later choices. Always try to coordinate all your choices for the best result, instead of choosing at random.
After your types comes bloodline. This is arguably one of the most important choices you will make in the creation of your character. Do you want a bloodline? Probably. Bloodlines grant many bonuses according to which you choose. Most have dedicated jutsu lists that only they can use. Some give bonuses to a variety of character stats. Bloodlines are also one of the very few ways to enhance your chakra level beyond low. The only real downside to a bloodline is that you will have to apply for it and wait for a judge to be able to check over your application.
Not taking a bloodline on the other hand, does not give any direct bonuses, but it does allow you a bit more free range in what your character can do. Bloodlines come with almost as many limitations as they do bonuses, and sometimes it's just better to skip it entirely and run a simple character. Characters without a bloodline are also the only ones eligible to become jinchuuriki for the Bijuu, which is the other thing in this section.
Bijuu offer as many bonuses as bloodlines, if not more. The application process, in turn, is going to be much harder than bloodlines, since this is a very powerful ability being given, and unique to one RPC.
The rest of that particular section explains itself, so let's move on to stages. As stated, most bloodlines start as dormant. This means that while you have access to most passive bonuses granted by the clan portion, the special bonuses are not available. These being things such as the Sharingan, Byakugan, or a combination element. Once the bloodline is activated, this is updated to Stage One. For most bloodlines, that's as far as it goes, but for some, such as Sharingan, you will have to update further as you move up in stages. Activation of a bloodline is usually only done through a life or death situation, where your character faces death head on. Crew will often make the decision as to whether your individual situation qualifies for an activation.
Demon stages are as mentioned in the format. When your demon is sealed, you have many choices. You can decide whether you are aware of the demon or not, and you may decide whether the demon is sleeping, or dormant. Sleeping means that the demon is completely silent, does not grant you any but the base powers granted, and so on. A dormant demon will speak to you, but still refuse to grant powers. Just as with bloodlines, they must be awoken from this state through a life or death situation, where you are forced to draw on their power. After this, they move to Awoken, or Stage Zero. Further stages will be developed with the perfect host system, determining your level of control over the demon stages. When each stage is mastered, your stage here advances to that stage.
Now for transplants. Transplants are very simple. Some bloodlines, such as doujutsu, can be transferred from one RPC to another through the power of transplants. The rules for this can be found in the normal rule book. Beyond that, this section is filled in exactly the same as your bloodline section.
Also, in all of these sections, please remove the false tags. If you have taken a bloodline, reduce “Bloodline, Clan, or Demon:”, to simply “Bloodline:”. This makes it easier for everyone, and especially the profile judge.
And at last that ends this section. Long one wasn't it?
Shinobi profession. This section, unlike some others, is mandatory. Your profession will determine what sort of character your RPC is, so think on it carefully. Are you a fighter? Take one of the many fighting classes. Do you prefer to fight up close, or at range? That choice can be found as well. Do you prefer to fight head on, or strike from the shadows? Cast illusions, or blast your troubles with overpowering ninjutsu? Overpower your enemy in taijutsu, or stay back and heal your allies? The choices are many.
And once you've made that choice, well, there's a few more to look at here. In fact, these should be considered even before choosing.
Base benefit. This is very simple, because it isn't a choice. You automatically gain everything listed as a base benefit in your chosen profession. No choice or work necessary.
Weakness is a bit harder. Each profession has two weaknesses, and you have to choose one. But, you need only choose one. Even after having added that directly to the format, I am surprised by how many I have seen denied for having both weaknesses. It is not necessary. Choose the one that you believe hinders your character less. I should say the one that is more applicable, but you and I both know that's not how it's going to work. (Weaknesses are currently under crew consideration, and the system behind them may soon be changed entirely. This section will likely be updated soon after that happens.)
After weaknesses comes the real meat of professions. The benefits. Each profession has benefits for three ranks. Genin, Chuunin, and Jounin. Each rank has at least two. These benefits are generally highly useful enhancements to a character, and should again be chosen carefully. They are in fact designed to present the player with a difficult choice, as to which they would prefer, as each will lead them on a different path of sorts within the profession.
While you can, and most likely will, choose your benefits upon character creation, you may only add the ones appropriate to your rank to the profile. Adding a jounin benefit to a genin RPC, even if you say it's not available yet, becomes confusing for anyone who reads the profile. Even striking it out doesn't help much. Please, add only the benefits you can use at your current rank.
On that note, once you have access to a benefit, you have it. There is no learning time on these, as they are usually abilities that supposedly had been developed over time and are just now showing their fruits.
Talents are completely optional, and must be applied for in the customs subforum, under talents. All associated rules can be found there.
A bit more in depth, a talent allows you to add pieces to your character that aren't available through the other guild systems. These can be anything from a unique ability no other possesses, to an extra profession benefit or even a completely unique set of abilities replacing your profession entirely. It can even be used, for those who like an extra challenge, to add unique rules to your RPC that you are then rule bound to follow.
Talents work by sacrificing one trait of your RPC to gain or enhance another. The sacrifice must always be appropriate, and balanced, to the gain. It may, if you like, be a larger sacrifice than gain, but it may never be less.
Talents may be applied for at any time in your character's life. From creation, to death. It is even recommended that a talent not be made until something has happened in the RP to necessitate it. After all, it'd be a pain to have already used your talent slot when you discover you need it because of an RP situation.
Ninjutsu. This is one of the most important sections of your profile. Yet, you shouldn't mess with it much just yet. You aren't allowed to add more ninjutsu to the lists until you have learned them in the RP. And it is highly recommended that any learned jutsu be added with links to your learning posts so that it can be easily confirmed that the posts were made.
What you can do in this section however, is to add your own element names to the sections. See where it says “First Element”? That should be renamed to your proper first element. If you have two elements at start, you should copy that entire section and paste it in below there, and replace the title again, but with your second element. The rest there is mostly self explanatory. Again, any questions may be asked in this thread.
One other thing you can change, is your starting jutsu. You can't add more, but you can replace the ones you have by default with any other Universal E ranked jutsu you'd like. It's not much, but this adds a bit more chance to be unique at game start, and can even be used to enhance some talents.
Now these two areas are very unique in the profile. Don't touch them. These are only to be added to after gaining the mentioned things in game. You will never start with a summon or a style. Some characters may even never acquire either, though you are far more likely to get a style than a summon. (You are actually recommended to pick up a style if your character doesn't exclude them due to other sections.)
Again, don't do anything in this section. This is where you record what accomplishments your character has achieved in game. At least the ones that are counted as missions. For now, the most you can do is add zeroes where numbers are asked for. Later on, once you've completed some missions, you add them to the proper ranked section with links to the threads they were completed in. Your mission points are used for two things (Though they also are never lost.). Determining when you can rank up, and converting to cash through the currency system. Each mission comes with a set pay rate, which is, as a bit of trivia, scaled to match the MP rate.
Teaching credits are much the same as missions, but gained for teaching other RPCs jutsu. All relevant information can be found in the mission system and ranking system thread.
The last section on our profile, is your personal belongings.
Backpack type is quite simply what kind of bag you carry when you go places. You might not have any bag, you might have several. Put that down as well. It can be any sort of bag, from a standard backpack, to a plastic grocery bag. I personally wouldn't care if you put down a cardboard box with ropes for straps, though Greg might deny that one.
Tool pouch and Kunai holster are what you see in the manga/anime. The little pouch they wear, and the slotted things that hold all their weapons. These can, again, go anywhere you'd like, so long as it makes sense. And again, you can specify having more than one as well, or none at all.
Gold is how much money you have. Gold is obtained in many ways, but must always be tracked both here, and in posts at your village bank thread. A new RPC starts with 500 gold, and autoranks start with amounts according to their rank, which are specified in the currency thread.
Equipment is the first subsection. This lists any sort of shinobi equipment you might have, usually designated for weapons and such. Kunai and Shuriken are added by default, but you may add slots for any other sort of equipment you may have. You may start with a small amount of equipment and add more in game by purchasing it at shops. Your starting amount shouldn't be too high. The profile judge will let you know if that is the case.
Supplies are pretty much the same as equipment, just more for less combat oriented things. The item list (Probably located in your village market.) will also have supplies separated from equipment, so you can use that to specify the split as well.
Custom equipment is for any personal customs you may have. These are added to your profile even if you don't have any on you. The equipment slot itself can be kept in the normal section, but the custom's description should be here for easy reference.
Housing and furniture are simple. When you buy a house within your village, simply add a link to that thread in your profile here. Items within that house are simply pieces of furniture you buy in the market to decorate your new home.
And that's everything! I hope this hasn't been too boring, and that you've learned at least a bit about how the profiles work. If you're still confused on anything, or you feel I missed something, please don't hesitate to post and ask about anything you need. The better your profile is the first time it goes through, the faster you get to RP, and the easier it is on our judges.
Without further ado, the profile.

Talent
