Life Hunter
BATTLE ARENA

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.

General Information
The portal opens up into an observation room, and down the stairs, an odd chamber for something like hunter training. At the center of a piranha-filled pool stands a solid stone table and several chairs. The Life Arena was built underneath the demolitions and ballistics testing areas, and the chamber rumbles with the occasional explosions above. Pinpoint red lasers sweep across the room regularly, as if hidden snipers are searching for a nice target. In the center of the table sits a wooden tower, made up of smaller wooden blocks. Yes. That's right. The Life Hunters prefer to train via Jenga.

Note: Distraction techniques and Yo Momma jokes are considered viable weapons when playing competitively.

If you fail: you have knocked down the tower! A small dart hits the back of your neck. You come to several hours later, and hope Dr. H didn't do anything to your body while you were unconscious. When you look into the mirror...

If you win: you have reached 50 points! You get a sharpie marker to do with as you please. peen points go to those with the highest scores.

    Mechanics
    - by carefully removing pieces of the tower, you earn points and advance to the next round. As the rounds continue, the odds grow steadily against you. Rolling a 1 at any point means you have knocked down the tower. Please do enjoy your mystery dart. Anything after reaching 50 points is purely for peen.

    - you may roll pieces individually (suggested for group play) or in batches of 5 (basically, a full round.)

  • Round 1

    Pieces: 5
    Points per piece: 1
    Trainee Roll: 1d10
    Life Trainee Roll: 1d12
    Hunter Roll: 1d12
    Life Hunter Roll: 1d20

  • Round 2

    Pieces: 5
    Points per piece: 3
    Trainee Roll: 1d8
    Life Trainee Roll: 1d10
    Hunter Roll: 1d10
    Life Hunter Roll: 1d12

  • Round 3

    Pieces: 5
    Points per piece: 4
    Trainee Roll: 1d6
    Life Trainee Roll: 1d8
    Hunter Roll: 1d8
    Life Hunter Roll: 1d10

  • Round 4

    Pieces: 5
    Points per piece: 10
    Trainee Roll: 1d4
    Life Trainee Roll: 1d6
    Hunter Roll: 1d6
    Life Hunter Roll: 1d8

    Bonus Mechanics
  • Life Hunters train for precise hand eye coordination and exceptional judgement, thus they have a slightly lower chance of knocking down the tower.

Jake had been taking an afternoon nap when he heard something vibrate
(He got smart and learned to take it out of his pocket).

<...Jake?>

"Hmfp"

...

He groaned.
"WHAT?!"

"... So?"

Jake muttered something unintelligible and rolled over.

Jake swatted the air, as if trying to shoo something away.
"Can't be. Leader's dead. Only one who has my number is..."
He trailed off, and let out a loud groan.

He buried his face in the pillow.
That damn girl. What does she want this time?

Another groan, but he reached out and smacked his hand on the table, feeling around for the phone.
Finding it, he pulled it towards himself, and flipped it open.

Meet me at the portal to the Battle Arena.

He scratched his head. Battle Arena?
He grinned. Oh, did she want to fight?
Ever since Chester came back, he had been itching for some spars. Guess Sherry would be the first one.

Chester chucked.

Shut up.

He got out of bed and put on his vest.
He debated grabbing his coat too, but decided he didn't want to be chided by any hunters for not wearing it, so he slipped it on too, and left the room.

Sherry waited. She honestly didn't even know if the kid would show up, but it was worth a shot.

There will be plenty of time for that. There is always time for that. Sherry gave her head a small shake. It was great to have Armagnac back, but the wyrm seemed certain Sherry hadn't been training enough.

Sherry checked her phone. She'd give him a few more minutes, then send another text. If he didn't reply to that...well, then she'd just assume that he was ignoring her. Brat.

Shut up.

Shut up.

"SHUT UP, I know what I'm doing."

"What is this WE business? Just butt out. Let me figure this out myself."

...
Several hours later

I hate you.

He was already in a bitter mood for having to stoop so low as to ASK FOR DIRECTIONS (because Battle Arena clearly meant training grounds to him), and was grumbling by the time he finally found Sherry.

"I thought you had that mission to go to."

GrnGriff
Umm... expect long posts from now on, because Jake/Chester banter is too much fun. /sob

"Finally," Sherry said when she saw him. "What took you so long? I about figured you weren't going to show up." She was quite for a moment, while she thought of the best way to answer his question.

"It's over." She knew the rumor mill was buzzing about the council room, but she wasn't sure if she should talk about it, or if she wanted to. Maybe later. It certainly wasn't appropriate greeting talk.

"Anyway, shall we get on with it?" One hand pointed to the portal that led to the arena. "I figured I'd invite you to train with me since, you know, you're still new. Thanks for coming." She gave him a small smile before she stepped through the portal and into the arena itself..

Yay for long banter!
My posts will be longer, when I'm not rushing to get ready for work. xD Priorities~

He scoffed.
"Well. Sorry for making you wait, your majesty."

On her comment about the mission, he remembered the text he received a couple days ago.
(Thankfully, he had figured out how to use his phone by then)

Some new job opening? Specialization?
Responsibility. Leadership. Self-monitoring tasks.

It didn't really interest him, so he thought nothing of it, never knowing about the mysterious Council that supposedly governed everything.
It seemed his "timely awakening" shielded him from knowing too much about these things, so he wasn't too affected with everything that was happening. Lucky him.

The idea of training took his mind off it, and he followed Sherry.
"This better be worth my time."

They had weapons now. He didn't want to do some stupid obstacle course or build walls. He wanted to fight.

No worries!

<"Your majesty"? Have I missed something else important?>

He's being snarky. You of all people should be able to pick up the sarcasm.

No, he's saying that I'm deman-- Wait. Whose side are you on?

Armagnac chuckled.

At least you're in a good mood. Sherry gave a small laugh of her own as she looked back to make sure Jack had followed. She had to admit, she was glad he'd decided to show up.

"More than worth your time! Promise. Welcome to the Life Battle Arena!" she said, walking across the observation deck. "Piranhas, tranquilizer darts, and Jenga." The piranhas weren't really involved, but Sherry thought they were kind of neat.

She turned with a smile to face the death trainee. "You'll need this." She held out one lone marker. It had been a long debate. To give him a marker, or not? In the end, she had decided it was only fair. She doubted she'd have the heart to use hers, but in the long run it would be best if he knew markers were considered standard in this game. She knew some of the life techs were the type to keep such things secret.

"You do know how to play Jenga, right?"

[A.V.]
xD Looks good to me~

Piranhas. Ok...?
Tranquilizer Darts. What?
... Jenga. JENGA. JENGA?!

Was this a ******* joke?

He stopped and only stared as Sherry handed him a marker.
WHAT THE HELL WAS THIS FOR?

Dropping the marker, he crossed his arms and stared at her.
"You're ******* kidding me, right? Jenga? JENGA? You dragged me all the way just to play some ******* JENGA?!"

GrnGriff
Phew! And uh... yah. :V
PostPosted: Sat Nov 03, 2012 2:20 pm

Her eyes followed the marker to the floor.

"Yes, Jenga," she said, ignoring Armagnac and looking Jake in the eye again. "It's worth it, you have to play for certain runic clearances." That's why she'd decided to play it at all. Going into a mission with bandages seemed like a super good idea. "And those bandages are worth it."

She took one step towards Jake, then another, coming in rather close to him again. "Though I suppose we could make it more interesting if you wanted. We could make a wager, or play it Truth or Dare style. You know, unless you are worried I'll win." It was a challenge. She had spent all day planning the darn thing.

She smiled. "Besides, Armagnac would like a proper fight later, if that's what you are hoping for."

Oh. It was one of those stupid training courses you needed to get stuff. Figures.
If Chester hadn't been here, he would of been all for it. Runic weapons were better than nothing.
But he had his weapon. And it was for... bandages. You can't freaking hurt people with bandages.

Jake scoffed.

Of course you would. You suck as a shield.

When she came rather close... again, he took a step back.
WHAT WAS IT WITH THIS GIRL AND PERSONAL SPACE?
It was like she knew nothing of the word.

He was going to turn down her offer, but when she spoke, he only stiffened.
Lose? At some stupid kid's game? To HER?

"You're ON."
... wait. Did he just... agree to... play? And according to his previous luck with the training courses...
... s**t.

"You owe me BIG time." he growled. "I'm gonna kick your a** after this."

... Provided he actually made it though.

A grin split her face in happy mix of delight and relief at his agreement to play. "Happy to hear it!"

She'd had a feeling he wouldn't want to play a something as simple and innocent seeming as Jenga, but she'd also had a feeling that he wouldn't turn down a challenge. She'd have to remember that she was right.

"You play with me, I'll fight with you. I like it," she nodded. A good compromise.

Really? Sherry hadn't though Armagnac was the taunting type.

She rolled her eyes slightly and looked at Jake. "Though Armagnac says we're kicking your a**." Sherry shrugged, turned around and made her way to the Jenga table.

"Sooo....." she said as she sat down. "Are there any," she rather deftly (to her surprise) removed one of the lower blocks, "special rules you'd like to play by?" She held her newly acquired piece up for a moment of triumph before placing it lightly on top of the tower. "Or are we keeping this simple and boring?"

He hadn't expressly agreed to a wager or anything, and the lifer wasn't the type to force such things on people. Even if she wanted to.

Jake dragged a palm down his face.
Just what did he get himself into?

He arched an eyebrow when Sherry mentioned Armagnac.
Who the heck was that?

He scoffed.

"We'll see who kicks who's a** after this."
The sooner they got this over with, the sooner they could SPAR.
This was absolutely stupid.

He picked at a block with a bored expression, pulling it out and placing it on top.
"Don't care. Do what you like."

"Alright then. Truth or Dare it is. For each piece we pull, we get to ask/dare the other one thing." She stopped for a moment to pull out a second piece.

"I'll start," she said, narrowing her eyes at Jake. "What," she place her piece on top of the pile, "is your favorite kind of cookie?"

Sherry was super good at this game.

... Truth or Dare.
This was utterly stupid.

His cheek rested in an open palm as he used his other hand to poke at another piece, making it stick out from the other side, before picking it up and dropping it on top, making the tower wobble a bit.

"I don't eat cookies."

He let out a sigh.

"I dare you to pick the next piece without looking."
He was dying inside.
