Wash stretched in the mid-morning sun, working out the kinks in his muscles. With Sally back, it was time to put his nose to the grind stone. Too long he'd spent wallowing around in the past and his own regrets- he was eager to turn over a new leaf. After a brief discussion with Sasha they had taken to the practice fields for a little warm up.

Sally was summoned an at the ready. He squared off with her familiar weight on her arm, and waited.

The days felt like they were slowly slipping together. It was a fantastic feeling, but she didn't want to grow lax in her training.

"When's the last time you were out here?" Sasha rumbled with an almost playful tone in her voice. She was feeling relaxed and limber, eager to see what he was made of.

Her nose wrinkled as she gave him a lopsided half-smile. It was a testament to how she felt around him - relaxed, comfortable.

On edge. Electrified.

Nona was summoned, the cool grips of the hooked swords settling comfortably in her hands.

"Your move. If you miss, lose the shirt."

"Too long," he replied. God help me. The sight of her weapons in her hands made him very ruefully realize that he was likely going to be brought to his knees by this woman in more ways than one. Brief flashes of memory came to him - of the last time they faced off like this - but he let it go. He was getting very good at letting things go, lately. Instead, he focused on her easy grin, her catlike grace - the intensity in her gaze.

It made him smile, a white flash against his dark skin. He darted foward, clanging his shield against her weapons to push them aside -

And used the momentary opening to tweak her nose.

Sasha blinked her eyes a few times, looking utterly confused as to react to the gesture. Nobody - nobody - had ever tweaked her nose before. She just kind of stood before him, loose-limbed and lax, before shifting both blades into one hand so that she could drive a fist into his stomach.

Gently.

"Smartass. For real this time."

"Oof!" Okay, okay, he should probably have expected that. He shuffled backward, clutching his stomach and wincing theatrically. If Sally had had eyes, she'd probably be rolling them.

You are both so ridiculous.

"You know, I expected you to be hittin' on me," he began, rubbing his sore abdomen, "but ain't this a little literal?" Wash shook his head, laughing at his own really awful joke, but obediently resumed his serious stance.

"Okay, okay." This time, he circled her a bit - then darted to the left, repeating his deflecting technique. But this time, he twisted his arm, sending his shield sideways to connect with her gut. They had FEAR shields, so he couldn't really hurt her, he reasoned. Besides, he didn't really want her to have to correct him again.

She hit kinda hard.

Nona's laughter was a low rumbling purr. She very much approved of Sasha's time spent with the moon hunter - and it seemed the pair had finally found something to agree on.

Wash's horrible joke didn't get a laugh from Sasha - a squashed smile at best - but there was a spark in her eyes that told of her good mood.

A spark that lingered even after Wash drove his shield into her torso.

She lashed back, swinging wide, a sudden scowl toying with her brow.

"You're distracting me."

"Maybe." Okay, now he was grinning. The longer they were out in the field - the longer he faced off against this lithe little woman, in the bright and warm sun - the surer he felt. It was like he'd woken up from a deep sleep. Even his connection with his weapon was better; like a part of him, a natural extension of his arm.

Since it had worked the first time, he continued to circle. As he did so, he ran his eyes up and down her figure from head to toe, finally meeting her gaze - and winking. Wash's movements were easy - relaxed. It was just practice, after all. They could have a little fun.

He tilted his shield, using it's reflective surface to reflect a beam of light across his opponent's face. Not wasting any time, he darted forward, catching the edge of her hooks with the lip of his shield. He dragged her arms up and out of the way to lean in close and let his lips hover teasingly over hers for the barest of moments -

Before kicking out with his leg and sweeping her off her feet.

Oh, he was good. This was dangerous ground, a dangerous game. It was a realization that came to her when she landed flat on her a**, wheezing softly as the breath rushed out of her chest thanks to the jarring contact with the hard-packed earth beneath her.

This was good for her - she could not allow him to distract her like he was, with that boyish smile and delicious physique.

Separate it. Focus on the heft of Nona's blade in her hands, the shift and give of his body. Anticipate. Be resourceful.

Ignoring the ache in her back and the burn in her abdomen from his previous hit, Sasha rose to her feet and gave him a dark, private little smile. She slowly circled him with predatory feline grace - and then she struck, connecting the flat edge of one blade against his a**. The other she swung around, catching the tips of her hooks into the neck of Wash's shirt before giving a sharp tug.

Pulling up close, she nipped at the lobe of his ear before retreating completely, eyes heavy-lidded and a small, catlike smile curving her lips.

The almost-kiss had been a double edged sword - the air between them, so close together, warm from her breath... It was intoxicating. He pulled back, but his lips were slightly parted, and his gaze was less focused. The way she circled him made every nerve stand on end, and when she lashed out finally, he wasn't quick enough to react.

He winced as the blade connected with his a**, thigh muscles already twitching with the sting. That would probably leave a bruise, however briefly. The n** on the ear further wounded his resolve, and he glanced at her face involuntarily, forgetting himself for a moment.

Jesus, Joseph and Mary, that look in her eyes -

And now it was Wash fumbling around like a fool. Beaten at his own game. He gave her a curt nod, eyes now wary. He tried to rush her and retaliate, but - she was too quick.

Focus, Sally warned beseechingly. She's not just a piece of a**, she'll cut you to ribbons. The fact that she was doing better however, seemed to please her.

There was an odd, bold tinkle of laughter as she danced away from him, a dark fire flashing in her eyes. Sasha peered over her shoulder at him, a ravenous smile on her lips.

"Le perdre. Lose it, the shirt."

She didn't even try to attack him, finding too much pleasure in the fact that he hadn't been able to touch her.

He obediently slipped his shirt off and over his head, watching her all the while.

"To be méchant, cher ti bete." It wasn't quite French, but Creole - the accent was harsher, the pronunciation different; but some of the words were similar. It was the closest thing to French he knew, anyway. Something his gran always said to his younger siblings. You be wicked, dear little thing. A lighthearted admonition.

"Is this all you wanted?" He added teasingly, letting his shirt dangle on the tip of his finger. With a flick, he tossed it at her, and used it as a distraction to close the gap between them, capturing her in his shadow.

Sasha's eyes hungrily watched the reveal of that delicious chest, eyes heavily lidded as she continued to circle him. Those blue eyes flared at the rough almost-french he spoke, a very calculating smile drawing the corners of her lips upward.

"For now," she crooned huskily, the sound that rumbled deep in her chest ending in a surprised shriek as he flung the shirt at her.

Suddenly he was there, and she delivered a hearty elbow-jab to his side.

His reaction was quicker this time. As she pulled back from the jab, Wash grabbed her arm, and spun around to put her back against the front of his body, gripping tight. He used his shield to push the blades at bay for a moment.

He pressed his chest against her, cradling her against his bare skin, and buried his face in the hair behind her ear. "Is that so," he rumbled. He released her suddenly, backing away and holding his shield so that only peeks of his dark skin showed through.

"You gonna rough me up a little, ma'am?" Wash smiled, running his free hand along his collarbone and pectorals. "Ain't gonna do that with them elbows and fists." He felt eager; adrenaline coursed through his veins. It wasn't that he liked the bite of the blade so much as he craved that wild look in her eyes. It was...a rush. A side of himself he didn't know he had - something about the danger of it was - enticing.

The old Sasha might've blushed at the sight of him running his hand across his chest. She might've wibbled, or woobled, or stuttered her way out of any sort of altercation. She would have closed her eyes and covered her face as the hot rush of embarrassment swept over her. The truth of the matter was simple. The old Sasha would not have found herself in this position at all.

Things had changed. She had changed. The horsemen had altered her, and the box she'd found had completed the metamorphosis.

The woman that stood before him now would not back down from a challenge.

Nona's blades connected together, pale violet sparking from her runes. She didn't want to hurt him, not badly, but she wanted to make sure that he recognized the power that ran through her veins.

"I'll be gentle," she purred softly.

She flew.

Her blades connected with his sturdy body, the flat sides of the weapon connecting with his arms, chest, back.

Once her attack had finished, she spun away from him, panting softly as she watched him with fire in her eyes.

That flash of fear, just before she connected - the predatory look expressed in the movement of her body. It was exquisite. His tactics hadn't worked, and instead of distracted she was - more focused. Wash was no fool; he tried to block the blows but his shield was knocked aside easily in the onslaught, and it wasn't long before the shocks to his FEAR shield drove him to one knee, head bowed.

With acute slowness, his gaze went up, up, up- and found those eyes, fire for fire, his for hers. Give and take.

Now, Sally intoned calmly.

He pushed off with his back leg, throwing all his body and momentum into the strength of his arm and the shield in his hand - letting it fly toward her like a discus. Midair, something erupted from the runes on its surface, and it crackled with electricity. It would connect with a burst of light, before clattering off to the side.

"That ain't what you want," he purred, a deep bass rumble. He came to his feet and made his way to her unarmed. Wash looked down to her - and offered a hand.

Like he had once before, not so long ago.
