The Legend of the Moon is an old story told anywhere Night Fairies reside. According to legend, this is how the moon came to be and why the Night Fairies clear the skies of clouds at night. No one is sure if it is true, but many believe that the events in the story truly took place.
Once, long ago, there was no such thing as the moon. Only the sun in the day and stars at night. At that time, there were no such things at Nights Fairies. They were simply fairies who slept during the day and were awake when the stars were out. At that time, there was a fairy named Lucia. She was quiet and talked to very few, but she knew that she was destined to preform a great deed. She knew not what it was, nor when she would preform this deed, but she was patient and waited for years.
As the years passed, the fairies who slept during the sun's reign began to feel themselves yearning for a source of energy that wasn't there. The longer they waited, the stronger the yearning grew. Lucia felt that the time for her deed had come, but she still did not know what it was. She left her home for one week and spent the time in solitude. During that time, she looked deep within herself and discovered a hidden power. A strange light burned within her soul, and Lucia knew this way the energy her people now required. She returned home to say goodbye to her loved ones. Then, before the eyes of all, she flew into the sky, higher than any had ever flown before. She looked down at her village and waved goodbye before closing her eyes. Lucia found the energy within her again and poured every fiber of her being into making that light stronger. Suddenly, she vanished and was replaced by a new orb of light. The fairies shielded their eyes, fearful of this new light, but they soon realized that it brought no harm. Instead, they felt refreshed and new. They became the Night Fairies, and nothing way the same.
The next morning, before they slept, they saw that the moon was gone and they could no longer feel sunlight without dying. The briefly mourned the lose of sunlight, but they soon recovered when they learned that they now had the ability to move clouds, if only at night. Since that first night of moving clouds, the Night Fairies have taken it upon themselves to move the clouds every night to give way to a clear sky. This way, Lucia, can watch over her people. The Night Fairies believe that they join Lucia in the sky. Each time a Night Fairy dies, a new star is said to appear.
"Hail Lucia, Princess of the Night,
Giver of Life and Keeper of the Dead.
She shall rule the Night until the end of Time
And keep the Counsel with the Heavens.
Hail Lucia, Princess of the Night."
