When I think of witchcraft, I think of: divination, utilizing power that doesn't derive from YHWH, and idolatry (worshiping any type of creation: yourself, another person, nature, sun, wood, stone, etc... instead of creator); so you're rebelling against his authority, against his information, against his approved ways to empower yourself. When you rebel, you're esteeming something/someone else or their opinion over His (i.e. yours, or of the entities empowering/ communicating with you, which is not the Holy Spirit; the Holy Spirit will not encourage you to engage in something that according to His law would be punishable by death). Adam and Eve are prime examples: he said don't eat and they ate; Eve esteemed the serpent's contrary opinion; Adam esteemed his wife's contrary opinion to what YHWH said.
One of the problems with seeking power/wisdom outside of him, instead of directly asking him, is that, aside from us receiving deceptive information, he doesn't receive the glory (which was kind of the whole point of selecting impossible people to work with: i.e. infertile/sterile people to create a large nation with numerous descendants so the rest of the nations could say "wow, that was impossible; their god, YHWH, exists"); that's why he tells his people to live in holiness, completely distinct in their ways from the world so no one could lump him up with another god and give credit to the gods of their imaginations, the creations of their own hands, the creation of His hands (sun, moon, stars, etc..), or to demonic spirits. The glory has to go to him, not for pompous reasons, but because he's the only way to life. Everything else is a deception/twisted truth and He wants to save people.
Rebellion includes everything he considers sin/disobedience and it leads to death.
Quote:
Revelation 21:8 (NIV)
8 But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars—they will be consigned to the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death.”
Note: I think a lot of people read this and think "oh, so I have to work to get saved"; no, a person with the Holy Spirit doesn't even want to engage in any of that anymore.
