Look! Fireworks!
He could honestly say that he liked her better then any girl he had hung out with before... but he could no longer say that being her boyfriend gave him lots of joy. He was tired of being jealous... Tired of not being able to do anything to make her care about him. He understood she had other friends... but wasn't boyfriend supposed to rank right up there.... and yet he had only seen her in classes for the most part this last week and he could only remember kissing her once in the last 7 days.... Somehow... he thought that was wrong.
Saying the password and pushing open the door he started into the common room. He froze however when he noticed the only other person in the common room was Attor. He seriously contemplated retreat. However he sighed and walked in.With careful grace he moved more into the room and offered a nod to the other boy. "Hello At- i mean Martin..."

Attor had taken a break from everyone today choosing to spend some time to think and work on a few things. Things felt so rushed or strained recently. He was really looking forwards to the Christmas break with his friends in Paris. It was a chance to catch up with what's going on in the business world as well as to experience Christmas with others since it wasn't like he could go to his family anyways.
He chose to sit in the common room beside the fire as he flipped through a catalog. Attor had never done Christmas shopping on his own before and he was a little lost. He wanted to make sure to get the right thing with the right meaning. Specially when it came to Vonali, he didn't want to give her something not heartfelt but he had to be careful that it wasn't to much or she might get annoyed along with Kenny. Ah yes Kenny, Attor had promised to behave from now on that wasn't going to be the most fun thing, but he would do it to stay friends with Von.
Attor blinked hearing his name, he looked up from the book in his hand. Great speak of the devil. What did he want? Or was he just being polite by greeting Attor. "Kenny....." Attor said with a nod of his head. ".....I suppose you can call me Attor if it's easier." He closed his catalog as to not be rude even though he rather keep looking at it.

Kennedy nodded in acknowledgement. "Thanks... Ill try to respect you by calling you martin... but i hear von talk about you all the time... its hard to think of you as anyone but attor... " He glanced at the catalog for a moment and then gave a small smile. "Christmas shopping? I have everything except Vonali's gift... I can't decide what is best. More music stuff... or new equipment for her to practice her fighting... I know its become super important to her." He dug his fingers into his hair.
"So um... Can i ask you a question?" He glanced into the fire and then looked directly at the other boy. He never got a chance to talk with just attor. When Von was around he couldn't seem to put to thoughts in a row let alone try to talk civilly with the other boy. He glanced at the chair across from attor and decided to wait to see if Attor said no before he sat... He wouldn't hang around with him if he wanted to remain the distant acquaintances they had been forced to become.

"No it's alright....friend...boyfriend of a friend and all that....you can call me Attor." Attor seemed a lot more civil now then the first time they had spoken to each other. "I've....well I've never Christmas shopped before so...it's rather a new concept to me. I've not gotten anything for anyone yet...I'm starting to wonder if I'm putting to much thought into it." Attor said lifting a stack of ten other books that was sitting in the chair beside him. He eyed Kenny for a minute, if he trusted the other boy perhaps he could help Attor pick out something for Von. "I hate asking for help on anything...,but if you can help me pick something out for Von it would be much appreciated."
Attor blinked at the next statement looking more strait at Kenny now. Oh bloody hell what did he want to ask him? His brows furrowed worrying this wasn't going to be good some how. "I suppose....What's on your mind?"

Kenny raised an eyebrow but nodded. "Thanks." He took the boy's willingness to talk at face value. Moving to sit in the chair across from Attor kenny smiled. "I used to go shopping with my family all the time." Shrugging he glanced at the catalogs. "Ive found catalogs don't help unless you already have something of an idea." His eyes widened briefly. "Most definitely... if you can help me pick out something too. I want to let her know i approve of her spending her time with the kickboxing... Im sure she thinks i don't."
His grey-brown eyes sought out Attor's "Which leads me to my question." He folded his hands together on his lap. "Do you...not like me?" His tone was serious. "You wont hurt my feelings... im just curious is all. Because i can't figure out why i get so on edge when im around you..." He frowned for a moment. "But oddly i don't seem to be on edge at the moment."

Attor didn't really trust Kenny or anything so he wasn't about to go into why he had never Christmas shopped before and why he is doing it now. "I'm clueless for everyone really...save Lucian...he needs a new deck of Tarot cards....but that's neither here nor there." Attor said not sure why he mentioned it anyways. "Sure...perhaps I can pick out something for Kick boxing for you to buy her and you can pick something music related for me to buy for her. Just let me know your limit or what not." Attor said shoving the music catalogs aside to place an equipment one on top for him to look through later. "You sure Von even cares if you approve?" Attor didn't laugh he was serious, she didn't seem to care about anyone's approval.
"I don't not like you, but I don't like you either." Attor replied calmly and without having to think about his answer. "I don't really know you." Attor sat up a bit while still starting at Kenny's eyes now that they were locked on his own. "I'm protective of Von she means a lot to me and I don't want you threatening our friendship just cause your jealous of any time spent with me. You can tell I'm trying to push your buttons. That's why you are on edge....I've been testing your waters so to speak. You aren't right now cause Von isn't here. It's really that simple." Kenny didn't have to know Attor wanted to be more then just friends with Von. Attor had to do his best to get along with this guy for Von's sake despite him wanting to chase Kenny off some how.

Kenny laughed slightly. "I know she doesn't care if i approve... but she does care that i am jealous of her spending all her time learning with you." He relaxed into the chair slightly. Knowing that Attor was going to be completely honest made him respect the guy a little more. "Same goes both ways... I know she needs new strings for her guitar.... Or maybe just a new guitar in general... The one she has now is from marc. And they aren't on good terms..." He shrugged. "As for price...my family does ok... and so pretty much find what she needs... And ill pick it up for her..." On an after thought he added. "Thanks..."
He moved back to the more serious topic. He caught a tone he really didn't like... he sounded like he was talking down to kenny. Kennedy brushed it off. "Well, I like you..." He smirked sure that would catch Attor off guard. "I like that you are protective of Vonali." He ran a hand through his hair. "I don't want you to stop being her friend... She needs friends, not just business partners."He rolled his eyes and looked back to attor. "But im her boyfriend, and i want to like her friends too... Because then we can all hang out and enjoy the experience..."
He tried to let the simple comment go. In a sense Attor had successfully called him stupid. "So can we come to a pass... Have you tested the waters enough... Im getting sick of being on edge when your around... It leads to an irritable time for me and i can only guess its stressful for you as well. " He raised an eyebrow in question. "I know it would make Von happy if we got along... "

Attor laughed a bit as well and he nodded knowing Vonali was stressed from the tension between Kenny and Attor. Though Kenny had no idea how much tension there really could be. At first Attor has wanted to provoke Kenny till he attacked Attor, make him look like the bad guy. But he knew this wasn't the right course of action to keep his friendship the same.
"A new guitar sounds like a perfect gift. I know nothing about them though, so you'll have to help me choose." Attor smiled a little that was perfect perhaps a special made one that only Von could own. "Alright I'll look through some stuff and see what I can find that she would like."
Ok so that did catch Attor off guard but he seemed to let it roll off of him quickly. He laughs a bit at the business partner thing. "Unfortunately I find myself friend and business partner but to be honest I'm guilty of seeing her ambitions as money signs just as much as she sees mine as such." Attor seemed to lean back and press his finger tips together as though he was considering a contract or deal. "Aren't we already?" Attor said with a smile.
"It doesn't stress me out at all I like putting people on their edge. I can't promise you to much on the button pushing, but I promised Von I would do my best to get a long with you and I keep my promises. You are right about it making Von happy and as her friend that's important to me. So in other words no need to be on edge anymore. " Attor frowned though, he didn't feel happy about this at all and he couldn't hide it. It felt like he was backing away from a fight for something he wanted.

Kenny smirked. "I guess we are aren't we." He sighed. "I guess im not as good as you are with stress filled situations."Kenny shrugged slightly. "I own up to the fact that if you push me into a fist fight ill lose." He met the other boy's eyes. "Thats why i've made sure to let some things roll off my shoulders." He gave a short hard laugh. "I've learned i am actually a very passive person... Jealous yes... Passive... apparently."
"I don't mind button pushing... just don't push my von button... Thats the only one i give a crap about..." And with that he had just handed attor a very dangerous hold over him. He nodded. "I do appreciate that. I respect men of their words... For a man is only as good as his word right." He raised his chin slightly.
"So can i ask you one more question." Hes brown-grey eyes glittered. "You like von... more than a friend, don't you?" He had seen how the boy was around von... and then he had seen the boy away from her... Plus he wasn't blind. Even not having a direct answer from the boy Kenny felt bad for him... While von may have her priorities a little mixed up... at least in kenny's opinion... Kenny was still the one who got to kiss her and tell her he loved her.

"Hmm.." Attor replied as if to slightly mock that Kenny was slow to catch up on things. "I can help you with that you know. There are was to make stressful situations fun." He tilted his head a bit. "Come now have a little faith in yourself." Attor said with a laugh he wasn't really one to go around saying he could beat the crap out of others. So having Kenny admit he would loose felt a little odd to him. "Passive? Maybe? Not a word I would use,but I guess I'm still getting to know you."
"But those get really fun reactions out of you ." Attor seemed to fake pout a bit before smiling. "A man of his word is a rare commodity I'm afraid." To often he knew he couldn't trust people to do the same, but it didn't change things for him in that respect.
"Man of many questions tonight, I should have remembered to set a limit of one or something, but proceed." Attor laughed to show he was joking and trying to reach out as a friend some how. Attor frowned at the question though he had not really been prepared for it though he should have known it was coming. How should he answer this, would admitting the truth cause more trouble? No it was obvious that Kenny wasn't stupid lying to him would only make Kenny feel like Attor was a circling shark waiting for him to mess up.
"Yes......and she knows. A night or two before you guys got back together, we had a really nice night, I thought....I thought she wanted to move on to someone else. Don't get upset or anything we just talked and danced a bit...that night I realized just how deeply I cared for her...We've always been close though...She is one of the people who really helped me when I was ...or am in a dark place." Attor seemed to loose a little of his well schooled poker face. It was no doubt that he may have figured sometimes Attor had problems with something. Kenny would only have to think back to the meeting in a hall when Attor looked weak and was acting scared to be around people. "But you have nothing to fear from me. Von wants you and I will respect that as well as I don't go after other people's significant others."

Kenny shrugged carefully. He wasn't always on top of what was going on. Well that wasn't true. If he was playing poker he could usually figure out if the person had a hand to worry about. He hadn't lost a game, that wasn't on purpose, for about three years. His sister could sometimes get lucky... however she never played cards anymore. Kenny eyed the boy for a moment and smirked. "I think some of your anti-stress will rub off on me... So no need for personal lessons."
"I bet they are... but i tend not to wear green well..." He thought about that statement and shook his head. "Never mind... that was a stupid statement coming from a slytherin." He laughed shortly.
"I swear that was my last thought out question." He watched the boy. His face was in the mask that he wore to play poker. An unreadable blank expression. "I thought so..." He was a little at war with himself over the words he was about to say. He closed his eyes a moment to make sure they came out just right. "Its not hard for me to believe that some one else likes her. She is after all pretty amazing. And in some way its good to know that someone will be there for her... if something does happen..." He opened his eyes into a glare. "That doesn't mean i think something is going to happen mind you..." He nodded and then let a small friendly look cross his face. "As long as you respect that right now we are together... then i have no reason to dislike you."

"If you think so. If you change your mind though I have some tips." Attor said laughing a bit at the thought of personal lessons. He did really see himself as a teacher and yet he was teaching kickboxing wasn't he?
Ok that did make Attor laugh a bit despite it being rather punny in a way. Maybe he and Kenny really could be friends after all.
"That statement eludes to the fact that you may decide to come up with more." Attor said with a snort while watching the other boy as his face became a well schooled one void of any emotion. He stared at him wondering what he was actually thinking.
"And it's not like its the first time its happened either. I heard about Marc." Attor said with a laugh. " And yes I'm always there for her rather I can have her or not." Attor said with a smile. "I do. I thought you were broken up when I wanted to go for her. I promise you I'm not going to go after her or anything as long as you two are together."

Kenny Let his emotion slowly back into his face. "Oh merlin... we can't have another marc... That crushed von... Though she wouldn't let anyone aside from her friends know... And now marc is with the messenger... So poor Von gets that too... she in a way simply gave him away... or im sure thats what she is feeling." He shrugged. "But he is a hufflepuff... " While kenny didn't usually stereotype based on house... in this case it spoke volumes.
He rolled his eyes though. "How are you supposed to keep up a conversation without questions?" He grinned knowing full well he just proved his point by asking a question.
With a half smile he glanced at Attor. "I also never really got to tell you I appreciate you extending your invitation, for von to see your championship, to me...And if you have any ideas on how i can get out of it without coming off as ungrateful i would very much appreciate the advice. " He ran a hand through his hair. "If i had skipped gifts this year i might have been able to afford to go but my parents wont fund it, as its too far away, and the rest of my money is going toward von's gift.... " He flushed slightly. "Plus... if your not gonna try anything... i think she may have more fun if i wasn't hanging around in the way." He averted his eyes for a moment and then seemed to steal himself to look back.

"You don't have to tell me. I had to face her wrath when she thought I was ignoring her. She yelled at me and scared off my date. I had over booked myself on dates to try to forget me interest in Von." Attor shook his head rarely had he ever been scared but Von had managed it that day.
"Easy I don't think I have asked one as of yet. One has to be careful wish questions because they can always open a door you aren't ready for. " Attor said with a laugh.
"Well....perhaps before I give you advice on such a thing....I'll go a head and give you this." Attor said withdrawing something from his pocket he had been working on putting it together along with his other Christmas presents. He tossed the envelope at Kenny inside was all the information and prepaid expenses for the trip to America for the tournament along with a note that said Merry Christmas. "I figured if we were gonna be friends we needed a fun trip for all of us to bond on so to speak...."

Kenny smirked. "Scary isn't she... But she really is amazing... when not on the other end of her lovely wrath." He contemplated the boy's end statement about trying many dates to cover his von emotion... Thats what he would do if the roles were switched.
With a laugh he nodded. "It helps that im asking questions.... " He sobered slightly but sighed. "Some times those doors you aren't ready for are te ones you need to go through..." He smirked and then frowned when attor reached for something. Half a thought that he was reaching for a wand flickered in his mind but kenny pushed it away.
Kennedy stared at the envelope. And caught it carefully. "What-" He glanced up and smiled. "Thanks... Well Then i can get your gift... Hold on a second ok." He held the envelope and ducked upstairs quickly and grabbed the shiny blue wrapped gift.
He trudged down the stairs. "Here!" The box was large and filled with probably three dozen chocolate frogs he had won from poker games.
