Though he had only just arrived, Maraba Edi had come here to be a part of the pride. and that included participating in their games! Now, he was not the youngest lion ever, but neither was he so old that he couldn't easily partake in sport. He didn't want to make any enemies immediately upon arriving, but he figured everyone here was even-tempered enough to be nice and mature about all this, and so one of the newest Earth Clan males didn't expect any trouble.
It seemed like his match would be with Qaletaqa Subiani. As anyone would, Maraba hoped to win and continue, but he was far from an arrogant lion and didn't truly expect to. Hardly wanting to be rude, he made sure to arrive at the arena whenever it was proper, so as to not keep his opponent waiting.

Taqa was not a confrontational lion. At best, he was philosophical, and then, only because he liked to think aloud and ask questions that didn't always have answers. No, Taqa was quite the opposite of confrontational. He was a secret-keeper, a guardian of tales that could be told to nobody else, sometimes a peacekeeper of sorts, and that was the way he liked it. To think that he, of all creatures, might be good at competition of any sort was laughable.
But sometimes, there were victories that could be attributed to pure, dumb luck. Sometimes, his talent (or lack thereof) wasn't the main factor. Taqa hoped that perhaps today, he would get lucky. His life had been quite a charmed one from the beginning, so it didn't seem a terrible stretch to think his good fortune might carry over into this too.
As he approached Maraba Edi, a smile crinkled his tattooed face, and he inclined his head in greeting. "Welcome, my friend," he said, voice soft as ever as he regarded his opponent. "And good luck."

Maraba's HP: 24
Maraba Edi always ended up admiring the Ela'wadiyi's tattoos when he saw them. It made him want to ask them all about their lives, and what they had done to earn each one. Not to mention, they were quite beautiful! However, this was not the time to really ponder much over them, seeing as they were supposed to be fighting. He returned the smile easily. "Thank you," The Ela'wadiyi he had met so far had been so welcoming!
"And the same goes for you." He said, and after one more polite little nod, he decided to start the fight. Maraba first only circled a little bit before hurrying in for a swipe at the other male's neck and shoulders, claws sheathed. He'd let his opponent chose if he wanted to use cutting edges in this fight or not, as Maraba had no preference himself.

Taqa: 22
And so, the dance began. Taqa nodded his head again in tacit acknowledgement, and then he, too, slid into a circle, slinking along and following Maraba Edi's movements with a quiet, watchful eye. There didn't seem to be any real need of aggression here. A nice, friendly sparring match between two fellow pridemembers. The brown lion couldn't say he felt the need to complain. Anything that could be started and finished civilly was a cause for celebration, and this seemed to be the case here.
He paused when he saw his opponent coming in for the first blow, bracing himself against the ground to take the attack - but not quietly, no. Even as Maraba's hit landed against his shoulder, Taqa pushed forward and struck back with his own two paws, hoping to catch the chestnut lion before he had the time to retreat.
Silent as a shadow... but quick as the snakes that adorned his pelt. That was the plan, anyway.

Maraba Edi: 20
It worked, and Maraba Edi definitely felt it. Taqa's paws hit him squarely on the chest, and with enough force behind them to really hurt, and make him cough quickly. If this had been his first fight ever, Maraba might be feeling quite troubled right now! But he'd had a fair deal of scuffles in the rogue lands, and while he had never been a skilled fighter, he could manage.
So he didn't skip a beat and didn't back away, bringing a paw up to bring it down, ideally on top of the other male's head.

Taqa: 18
He was lucky that his initial blow had landed better than his opponent's had, but if Taqa had been hoping for a similar outcome a second time, he was sorely disappointed. Maraba's hit landed squarely across his forehead, rocking him back momentarily onto his haunches. There was a brief moment in which dizziness threatened to cloud his vision, and he was forced to sit and wait for it to clear.
But the backward momentum had shifted all his weight to his hind legs, and the brown lion took the advantage and launched himself at his opponent, keeping his head low to attempt a headbutt of sorts into the other lion's chest.

Maraba Edi: 18
Oof! Again, in the chest. Maraba Edi would certainly be feeling this later, but as it was, he had no time for complaining about that now. He raised his paws as a reflex and tried to grab onto his opponent's shoulders briefly, only to give him time to bite him, quickly, on the back of the neck before he got away. The only reason he tried to bite was because he knew it was unlikely to break skin thanks to the other lion's mane, the idea was just to give him a strong pinch, since he just so happened to be right there. Besides, hopefully it would discourage more chest blows! Maraba would be more careful about these form now on, lest he should have a coughing fit in the middle of the fight.

Taqa: 16
And there it was! Taqa nodded mentally as he felt his hit land squarely in Maraba's chest. That ought to do a little damage. But he had little time to celebrate his minor victory as his opponent's teeth clamped down around his neck. Not hard, but enough to jolt the brown lion back into action - if he wanted to shake himself loose, anyway.
He considered pushing forward into another headbutt, but the teeth buried in his mane seemed to deter him - it wouldn't do to accidentally rip his own mane - and he resorted instead to swiping at Marab's legs, hoping to upset the other's balance.

Maraba Edi: 17
Taqa did succeed in shaking Maraba off, as he found one of his paws suddenly lost it's sure footing. He let go quickly enough after that, but managed not to loose too much ground. Not wanting the fight to slow down and put distance between them, he quickly rocked on his paws and threw his weight against the tattooed male, hoping to barrel into him before he got too far away. Otherwise Maraba would look pretty silly, throwing himself like that. Well, it was a fight, hardly the moment to play it too safe!

Taqa: 12
Success, but it was short-lived. Taqa felt his breath whistle out of his chest as Maraba's attack landed, and he took several steps back to compensate for the sudden weight. He took his time getting back into the action this time, using the backwards motion to compensate for his upset balance. Rushing into an attack might only have thrown him off even further and caused him to fall - and that would have been a mistake.
The brown lion steadied himself, shifting his weight back to slow the movement of his hind legs. His eyes watched Maraba's every move, calculating quickly before moving in for another attack and swiping with both forelegs at his opponent's shoulders.

Maraba: 16 He was pleased by the success of his attack, but decided against following up right then an there, since it would probably just lead to tripping up. Besides, this wasn't a real, serious fight, and so Maraba didn't mind letting Taqa have a few moments to regain himself.
When the other male came at him, Maraba went in to meet him. He felt paws hit his shoulders, but the pain was dull compared to other blows he had received. He fell back briefly on his hind paws to push forwards, meaning to headbutt Taqa, either in the face, or in the chest – frankly, whatever he could manage.

wooga Paes Well, Chicago now XD So it could just be that I've been pretty busy the last couple days. I used to live in Hong Kong, though, so it's definitely easier for me to catch people online now than it was a year ago XDD Taqa: 10
It was the face. Taqa winced as Maraba's forehead smacked into his cheek. That one hurt, too. He issued a low huff, biting back an instinctive grunt and fighting the urge to reel back. Disengaging now didn't seem too advantageous, and even if one eye refused to open in face of the headbutt, he was close enough to land a hit, even with an eye closed.
How effective it might be was another matter. Still, Taqa went for the attack, using his teeth this time and aiming at some part of Maraba's neck for a bite.

MoonRazor Oooh dude, Chicago! that is cool : D I was there... veyr briefly once. And I can imagine the improvement, woah. My dad is in Macau right now, was in Beijing a few months ago, and visited Hong Kong a couple weeks ago. Getting skype time can be pretty tough! Maraba: 14 Butting heads had some drawbacks, but fortunately for Maraba he seemed to be better off than Taqa in that aspect. His little victory was short lived as the other male cleverly used his own move against him! He felt a sharp, painful pressure on the side of his neck.
He managed to resist the urge to just pull away, and instead twisted slightly pushed against Taqa, outwards and downwards, slamming a paw against his opponent's shoulder to help out. Maraba hoped this would either push Taqa down and over, or at least force him to let go to avoid that outcome.

wooga Paes I like it 8D It's nothing like Hong Kong, but it's great XD It's definitely hard to get Skype time across the ocean like that. My parents and I usually only catch each other once every three or four weeks. Taqa: 6
If there was one thing Taqa didn't want, it was losing his footing and going down. That would all but assure Maraba victory, and Taqa wasn't about to let that happen so easily. There wasn't much point in hanging on, in any case, and he opened his jaws to release the other lion before taking a quick step to the side to reset his balance. It might even have counted as a stumble, but the brown lion controlled it as best he could.
There was still a ways to go in this fight, though, so he didn't hesitate. Where he stood seemed a decent enough vantage point, and he didn't bother circling back to Maraba's front, going instead for hit on the other lion's side.

MoonRazor Yeah :c we can never talk long because one of us either has to go to bed, or school! So it can be a bit of a bummer. Were you born and raised in Hong Kong? OO: Maraba: 13 Maraba was pleased about successfully getting free of the pain in his neck, but couldn't celebrate long. Contact on his side made him quickly whip around, not eager to let his opponent just pummel away at his flanks like that. He automatically shot out with a paw to thwack Taqa away as he turned, not really in position for a much stronger attack at this moment.
