User ImageUrsula ran her hand through her hair and took a long breath of the fresh air. It was nice being able to be out of the castle and not freezing her a** to bits. One thing I like about Hogwarts more than Durmstrang, that place was located in a tundra all year round. At least Hogwarts was only covered in snow part of the year.

It was one of the warmer days since the term started but Ursula knew that Black Lake was probably freezing, as always. It was abnormally cold. As I found out the hard way... The other day, a Slytherin boy decided it would be fun to pull her into the water and thanks for being in wet, freezing clothes, Ursula caught a cold the next day (she was a little bit bitter about that).

Oh, and to make it better... a bunch of these Gryffindor boys had been following her around since that day acting like guard dogs. She just barely managed to slip away... which made sitting by the lake even more of an accomplishment. Fresh air, peace and quiet... Perhaps she would skip class out here.

Rolling his shoulders back, Ezra made his way casually to the lake. Ah, the fun he had here... With a yawn he lifted his arms above his head, preparing his muscles for his morning swim. Even though he had been following the routine of awakening, sneaking out and swimming every second morning for six months, the icy cold water still froze his blood every time. How can someone prepare themselves for an onslaught like that? Even though his early dip was delayed - damn those giggling girls in the common room distracting him from his training - he would get his routine done.

Grasping the bottom of his singlet, he pulled it over his head as he continued his journey to the lake. As he lifted the fabric over his head, he noticed a rather peculiar sight sitting by his destination. A blond girl sitting by the lake, her beautiful hair swaying ever so gently in the light breeze. With a smirk ezra threw the singlet over his shoulder, his walk turning into a stride as he advanced on the figure. As he grew closer he finally let out a small yell.

"Well, isn't this a nice surprise," he cooed with a grin, doing a little half-wave for her.

Ursula heard a voice before she heard anyone approaching and she craned her neck back to look at a boy approaching her. She was thankful more than anything that it wasn't either Dorian or any of those annoying Gryffindors who kept following her around. Instead, it was a dark skinned boy that Ursula had never met before.

A nice surprise, hm? She thought amused, looking the boy up and down. For being as young as he was, he was nicely built. Oh, and the fact that that tight singlet on helped. Not bad, she commented to herself, a smile on her face. "Nice indeed," Ursula smiled slyly at him, "Are you going to give me a show to watch?" She teased, batting her eyelashes at the boy.

He had some galls to be swimming in Black Lake this early in the morning--actually, it didn't even matter what time of day he was swimming at... Black Lake was frigid.

She turned her face away from the boy for a second and removed her shoes and hiked up her tousers, placing her feet in the cold water but then she turned back to the boy. Guessing from his introduction, this kid was a bit of a player--which was fine by her. Ursula liked to flirt. She looked up at him expectantly, waiting for some clever response or some display of manliness.

Seeing her turn around, Ezra finally recognised her. Well, vaguely. She was that Gryffindor girl that the goody-goodies in his house had been stalking; 'protecting', as they liked to call it. Wait, wasn't she third year? Coming to a stop by her side, he placed his hands on his hips and looked down at her with a grin. It was about time he had a challenge, the second grade girls had gotten boring. Well, that and he had gotten slapped a few too many times for being 'caught' with their best friends. Why they had gotten so upset was beyond him - there was enough for them all! Wait, was that third-grader flirting with him? Of course she was!

"No grand performance today, I'm afraid" he said smoothly, taking a few steps forward, "but you're certainly free to stay and watch." He continued his stride forward, the icy water lapping at his ankles. 'Come on Ez, this is not the time to freeze up. Heh, 'freeze' up. I'm hilarious.' Once he had waded in far enough, he kicked himself forward, submerging his body into the almost dangerously cold lake. After a moment or two he surfaced briefly, his arms flying in front of him as he broke into a freestyle. He kept swimming for a few minutes until he reached the farthest he would ever swim. He didn't trust the lake, and by rule he refused to go more than a few dozen meters in. It wasn't that he was a coward, he was just smart enough not to brave the untested waters.

As soon as he reached his imaginary finish line he flipped himself backwards, rotating his body 180 degrees so he could continue his drill back to the shore. When he finally reached a depth where he could walk he straightened himself, bobbing lightly in the neck-deep water. He grinned and waved at the girl, secretly hoping she was at least a little impressed. He had been swimming for months now, after all, and had gotten rather fast at his little routine. Usually he would even do a few more laps, but it would be rude to desert company.

"The name's Ezra, by the way," he shouted casually.

Ursula gave a laugh when the boy spoke that there wasn't a grand performance today. "I will," she responded--not that she was planning on moving regardless or not he stayed. However, having someone to amuse herself with was always something to be cherished.

She watched as the boy trekked into the water. Impressive... She thought, seeing that the boy was unflinching in his walk into deeper waters. He was steadily moving deeper until Ursula saw his head start bobbing up and down in the water. A few seconds later, he was off.

It was another impressive sight. Ursula wasn't an expert on swimming but she could tell that the boy was pretty fast. He's arrogant too, Ursula grinned to herself. She wouldn't mind knocking the boy down a peg or two... A sly smile came across her face. He'd be a fun target to tease... She sucked on her lip slightly in thought, playing with the idea in her head.

She glanced up when she heard him speak again, done with swimming. "Nice to meet you, Ezra," she responded, extending her hand out expectantly, fully prepared to make him push through the water just in order to take her hand. "I'm Ursula," she introduced herself, a smirk on her face. He'll be fun...

After she was done with introductions, Ursula stood up from where she was. "Mind if I join you for a bit?" She inquired, already pulling her sweater over her shoulder, leaving just her white dress shirt on underneath. What better way to tease a boy? She wondered, pulling her hair up into a pony tail before slipping into the cold water. Not as bad as last time, she thought, lowering herself further into the water until she was submerged up to her neck. Then she stood back up again, allowing her clothes to stick to her all too revealingly. Through the white, she was fully aware that he could roughly make out the outline of her bra. "I'll race you to that log," she indicated out further into the lake. Without giving him much of a chance to respond, Ursula was off swimming. She could use the head start.

Seeing her extend her hand, Ezra grinned and stood straight. It was clear she was trying to make him work for the 'reward' of taking her hand, so instead he stood in the water and stretched for a few moments before eventually treading back to land. He delicately took her hand and nodded. He knew it was common to great ladies with a kiss to the hand, but he wasn't so sure it was the right environment for it. Sure, Ezra was charismatic, but he didn't exactly have many opportunities to practice chivalry.

"Ah Ursula, it's nice to finally know your name," he explained with a smile, folding his arms across his bare chest, "I've seen a few white knights following you around, something about a Slytherin bothering you?" If a Slytherin laid a finger on a girl he cared for, Ezra wouldn't hesitate to find him and draw blood - at the very least leave bruises. Then again, Ezra was notorious for getting into trouble over fights. He managed to charm his way out of most severe punishments and it was practically a miracle that he had never been suspended, let alone expelled. Honestly, he was a little surprised Ursula hadn't heard of the upstart second-grader in her house. Or perhaps she had, and was choosing not to tell him? More teasing, it seems.

She asked for his permission to join in, but Ezra knew his nod wasn't necessary. Tilting his head at her movements, he couldn't help but keep his eyes glued to her figure as she moved into the water.
'Bloody hell she's tough. Most girls that lay a toe in that water shriek for help. I do like obliging them of a rescue..' His mind drifted elsewhere as she arose once more, his arms unfolding to fall by his side. 'I.. wow... that's.. huh...' With a shake of his head he looked at her moving figure. "What.. race? Oh bugger!" He quickly sped back into the water, leaping and diving in after her. Despite his speed and power, he was at a large disadvantage. 'Cheeky little...'

Despite having the advantage, by the time Ursula reached the log, she knew that Ezra was right beside her. If the log was further out then he would have overtaken her for sure. "A tie?" she inquired with a laugh, swimming leisurely over to an area where she could stand again. They went a little bit deeper than usual and Ursula could feel some weeds brushing against her legs as she swam.

As soon as she found a place where she could comfortably stand, Ursula grinned at him. "I wouldn't call them white knights," she said, remembering the conversation right before she decided to cheat on their race. "I suppose people just twist situations into whatever they want," Ursula commented with a shrug. Technically the Gryffindors started the entire thing--being as testosterone pumped as they were... "I don't need their protection. I think I could work my way out of any unfavorable situations..." Ursula gave a sly grin. She knew how to manipulate people well enough.

But why was she focused on talking about herself? Why indeed. Perhaps she was still bothered about the Slytherin situation--she really did need to deal with it one way or another. Stop wallowing, she told herself, giving herself a mental smack on the hand.

Ursula paused for a second before giving Ezra a glance, "Though... perhaps if someone more of reliable were to offer to be my knight..." She hinted with a soft laugh. As she did, Ursula began to swim closer to shore in preparation of getting out. Of course, she just assumed Ezra would follow suit.

Ezra held lightly onto the log with a chuckle, panting now after his swim earlier and then from his attempt to catch up. Maybe he should train with girls more often, they certainly seemed to get his heart pumping. When she called the race a tie he laughed and flung his head back, looking up at the near-clear sky. "Whatever you say, I think you were still a smidge ahead of me at the end there though," he humbly declared. If it had been a boy he had been racing he'd be clocking the other for cheating, but he knew better than to gloat to a girl. No, it was far better to admit a small defeat to earn a huge victory later.

He casually drifted closer to Ursula as she explained the situation.
"Didn't you know? Every boy in Gryffindor is supposed to be a knight in shining armour," he declared sarcastically with a roll of his eyes, "it's a hard reputation to live up to. I think I have more fun making their helmets rust." When she said she could get out of situations, Ezra couldn't help but smirk, "I bet you could."

Ezra waded after Ursula as she returned to the shore, floating lazily on his back as his legs propelled him forward. "Good luck with that," he snorted at her remark, "a reliable guy? In Gryffindor? That's boring, and very overrated. Not to mention overdone." As they reached the grass, Ezra paused in the water where he was knee-deep, grinning at Ursula. "But hey, let me know when you're looking for a black knight instead," he said smoothly with a raise of the brow, "I promise we'll have more fun."

"How amicable of you," Ursula commented with a raised eyebrow when Ezra declared that she was just a little bit ahead of him. I wonder what he's planning? A competitive guy like that? Admitting his loss? Well, perhaps there was a first for something but Ursula was almost positive he was playing some angle. Of course, she didn't let on that she was suspicious. She just laughed.

"Oh yes, and they also have to be thick skinned and muscled," Ursula retorted, hinting towards Ezra as she rolled her eyes. She gave a laugh when Ezra commented about making their helmet rust. So he isn't just a meatbrain... that's good, she pulled herself towards the shore and looked back at him.

What he said about knights sent Ursula into real laughter--not just the laughter she used to string guys along. "Oh really now!" Wow, this kid. The amount of confidence he had was hilarious. It just brought out the worst in her, it really did. Ursula moved over to Ezra and leaned her face mere inches away from his face. "I don't think you could handle me, kiddo," she smirked and poked his nose. "Cute, though," she laughed, leaning away from him before pulling out her hair tie to shake out the water from her hair.

Ezra laughed as she carried on his joke. "You kidding? I saw some of those guys following you around," he said with an arrogant smirk, "I've left them crying when they've mistaken me for a third year. I'd wager you can throw a better punch than half of 'em, to be honest." Wait, do girls get offended when you call them tough? It was possible he - Ezra the lady's man - just made a blunder. Hopefully she wouldn't take it that way; all Ezra could do was keep his smirk and play it cool.

Laughter - that wasn't exactly what he was looking for. She leaned in close, closer... and then it happened. The worst words to ever slip from a girl's mouth.
'Did she just... no... call me...?' It was certainly a blow to the ego, of course Ezra's ego was large enough to take a scratch here and there. That said, he knew girls matured faster than boys, perhaps he overrated his ability to catch an older girl. It had worked in the past... "Could you stab me in the gut first next time? That would be great, thanks," he responded coolly, struggling to slide his singlet across his wet torso. His roommates complained it was too tight, but Ezra just explained it wasn't for them.

Ursula wasn't bothered by being called tough, she didn't even realize that some girls would find offense to it because what he said was probably true. I bet I could throw a punch better than some of these guys...

And then Ursula just laughed heartily. "I'll make sure to remember to stab first next time," Ursula promised with a smile, continuing to shake out her hair before she walked up further on shore. "Are you planning on swimming some more or will be you so kind to escort me back to the Common Room?" She inquired, wondering if perhaps her comment turned him off completely from her. I could see that happening... After all, from his expression, it seems like he didn't have a lot of girls say no to him or give him a run for his money. That fact made her smirk.

Either way, it was her mission to get out of these damp clothes as soon as possible. Taking a hot shower would be nice too. Plus... I don't plan on catching another cold again.

Finally Ezra squeezed into his now-clingy shirt, shaking his hair briefly to get out as much water as possible. With a sigh he ran his fingers through the damp locks, pushing his hair back and out of his eyes. He did one final stretch, pushing his shoulders back, resulting in a few 'cracks' being heard in his upper back. Ahh, that was nice. He did the same with his neck, rolling his head from one shoulder to the other. He exhaled lightly, his body feeling contently limp from the exercise and the stretches.

"Now what sort of knight would I be if I didn't at least do that?" he asked patronizingly in response to her request for an escort. With a chuckle he caught up to her to walk by her side. "So what were you doing out here anyway?" he questioned curiously. It wasn't often Ezra saw girls by the lake, and it was rarer still that they wouldn't actually be doing anything.

Ursula rolled her eyes and chuckled at his response. Again with the knights! Perhaps he even has some sort of complex... She sucked on her lip slightly before turning around to look back at him. "I was just enjoying the scene--and the lack of hotheads... though..." Ursula scanned him over, "That obviously didn't last very long," she teased, running her hand through her hair and shaking out some of its wetness.

"Do you always swim at this time?" She inquired, glancing back at him. This wasn't the first time Ursula found refuge at the lake in the morning but she was almost certain she hadn't seen anyone swimming in it... Perhaps they just missed each other?

Now that she was out of the water, Ursula realized just how cold she was. The air wasn't warm enough to be comforting, instead it left a sort of n** on her already damp clothes. I am not catching another bloody cold... She thought to herself with a frown, quickening her pace towards the castle.
