Bland. The food was bland, the sky was bland, hell, even the water was bland. The last mission had simply killed some bit of happiness in Sherry's life. The deaths, the insanity, the fog, and worst of all, the tablet in her pocket.
Sherry walked down the corridor neither fast nor slow, but at a steady pace of, 'I don't really remember where I'm going.' She didn't really care, either. Armagnac usually kept track of what they needed to do for the day, especially when most of the day was going to be spent at the training grounds. Unfortunately, that was out of the question right then. What else would she do, then? 'Sit around a mope' seemed like a really nice idea, but Sherry knew better. No, she needed something to fill this space in her day (and quiet the silence in her head), but without Armagnac to suggest something, the trainee found herself at a loss.
"Stupid, stupid, stupid!" she muttered, louder than intended. All she had been through, and after one day without her weapon she was utterly lost. What would Armagnac say?

Taani should have learned after her map incident that it was probably better not to be reading something while walking through the dormitories. This time it was not a map, but some standard rules and procedures that she wanted to study until she knew them. Just because she was the new trainee didn't meant she had to act like one constantly.
But as had happened before as she read and walked she began to slow down as she walked along, not even sure where she was really headed. One step, another.
She kept walking slowly, engrossed as she turned a page.
There was a bit of insistence to Charles voice, something she might have noticed if she had heard him at all.
"What?!" She snapped aloud, not quite used to talking with her thoughts. Even as the word left her mouth her head jerked up and she halted not a moment too soon as she was about to walk straight into another girl in the hallway.

Paying attention was something Sherry usually prided herself on. Everyone has their moments though. Those little moments when they slip up. This was one of those moments. Her mind was just to clouded by everything else She hadn't even noticed the other girl in the hall. The sudden, unknown voice in the hall did catch her attention, and just in time. Sherry stopped practically mid step. "Oh! Um...Sorry!" She took a step back. "Really. Didn't quite see you there."

Taani's cheeks darkened slightly as she realized her mistake a moment too late, but she tried to ignore it, straightening up her shoulders and trying to look well put together;. "Its really my fault, I got caught up in reading and didn't notice you either."Her voice had a slight British lilt to it, and she looked at the other girl curiously, primarily dwelling on her hair and eyes. Charles voice had her distracted her, once again not sure if she should be furious with him or not, but he was correct and she tucked her book under her arm in order to put her hands in front of her, palms together and dipping her head slightly. "Namaste. I am Taani, a new recruit of the Moon division. I was just looking over the procedures, trying to learn how things worked around here."

"Oh, no, completely my fault. I wasn't paying attention at all." The nervous apology was a bit rushed. Sherry hated when things like this happened, 'dancing' in the hallway always made her feel bad. Even if it shouldn't have. She gave a nod of her head in return greeting. "I'm Sherry, a Life trainee." Her eyes flickered to the book had been reading. A new recruit? Normally, Sherry might have gone about her business. However, seeing as she didn't really have anything pressing at the moment, and seeing as she was feeling rather alone without her weapon, talking to this new girl seemed like a marvelous idea. "Is there anything I can help you with, perhaps? I um...admittedly don't know everything, but I can certainly try to help." ramenli Sorry for the short post. xD

Well, there was no use for both of them to be arguing over who was to blame, so Taani nodded her head. Or shook it. It was more of a bobble really, and almost impossible to tell if she was agreeing or disagreeing. "Life...the research division then?" It did not sound like a bad division at all, if she was not so determined to protect others like her brother she probably would not have minded that sort of job.
She took the book in her hands, thumbing through the pages before closing it, glancing up at the taller woman. "Well, this is all the rules and regulations, and Charles has been able to supply some knowledge." There was a feeling of approval in the back of her mind as he preened at being recognized and she tried to resist rolling her eyes. "But if its not too much trouble, what is it like? In practice I mean. Do you fight the creatures on a regular basis or are they few and far between?" She rather doubted the latter, the facilities seemed a bit large for that, but maybe it was not as bad a problem as she feared.

Sherry let out a small sigh of relief without realizing it. This girl seemed nice, which was always good. "Yeah," she said with a nod. "Research. We also run the infirmary."
She watched as the other girl flipped through the book. She had one of those. Probably worth flipping through again, she noted to herself. It could never hurt. When Taani mentioned Charles, Sherry let out a tiny, "Hmm?" Charles could be another hunter easily enough, but Sherry didn't know off the top of her head. She didn't think about it much, though, because the Moon trainee had followed up with a question. One Sherry thought she might actually be able to answer.
"I can try, that's for sure," she smiled. "Um, it's semi-regular, maybe? I mean, right now things are a bit busy, the autumn usually is, what with Halloween and all." Someone had told her as much at one point.
"See," she began again, getting a better grasp on her thoughts, "we get sent out into the world and such to fight. There are always mission, but individual hunters don't go on every single one. We do get time to rest in between, and the island is usually pretty safe. So, we are always busy with guard duty, training and such, but actually fighting the creatures, that doesn't happen all the time."
Yes. Sherry was super helpful.

The infirmary? That was good to know, and it would be even better to know someone there. It was absolutely miserable if you were being taken care of by someone who didn't like you.
Now that the life huntress was answering her questions she was more than willing to fully devote her attention to her. It was hard for her though, with a voice in the back of her mind humming along making its own observations. Multitasking had never been her strong point but for now there was someone in front of her, and that was who she needed to focus on.
"Halloween, right, I knew it was in the fall. What day is that again?" Perhaps it was a peculiar question, but for someone who had never celebrated it it was not a date she kept up with. Hearing how it all worked she started to piece it together in her mind. So missions and duties constantly, but actually going out on an active mission was rarer. And considering she was just a new trainee she rather doubted she would be that active. "Are these missions normally alone, in groups, or small groups."
"You mentioned training. Is that usually on our own or are there scheduled classes and times to show up?" She assumed probably on her own time, as she had seen very few actually there when she had passed by the training grounds as she tried to get used to the facilities, but if she was supposed to be there for some scheduled training she would rather know it before hand.
If Sherry was going to answer questions she was going to figure out a few to ask.

Sherry smiled. It really was good to talk with someone, and feel like she was being helpful, too. She was more that happy to answer all of Taani's questions. If she could. "Ah. Halloween is October 31st. So we are practically on top of it," Sherry was suddenly aware she didn't quite know what day it was. That last mission had just knocked her on her face in more ways than one. Luckily, Taani went ahead and asked more questions. Good, good. It was something Sherry could focus on. "Missions usually happen in groups. Sometimes small groups of just a few people, and sometimes they send a whole bunch of us off together. Several of us just came back from one of those missions." "Ah, training," Sherry was visibly glad to move on from the mission subject. "Training definitely happens on your own time. Every once and a while there might be a class, but usually you just find an older hunter who has some time to show you the ropes. Or just head down to the grounds yourself. That works, too." "Have you done much fighting in the past?" Sherry wasn't sure why she asked it, but it seemed like a reasonable question right at that time. ramenli So sorry to keep you waiting!

"Ah, so before Diwali this year." The words were out of her mouth before she had thought about it, and as her brain did start to catch up, so did the implications. She would not be spending the holidays with her family this year. She faltered slightly but thankfully there were other things to talk about. It was nice to know that missions were a group effort. She did not exactly feel comfortable about the idea of going out on her own with something completely foreign to her. The pros for small groups on a fighting missions were numerous, and while there was no reason to debate those now she was still listening them in her head, slightly distracted until she noticed that the other girl was talking again....Sherry was it? These foreign names were going to confuse her. So training was on their own or with other individuals. Nothing standardized then. Charles supplied, in a soft, gloating tone that tipped her off he was probably mainly talking about himself. His caused her to tilt her head in the tell-tale manner that he was talking and she was not quite accustomed to it yet, struggling to focus on Sherry as well. "No fighting at all actually. I would have needed a bloody good reason to do so."GrnGriff No problem, I think I'm having post-meta blah @rp atm XD

Sherry knew that look. The one lots of people got when their weapon was talking to them, especially when they were new. It did take some getting used to. She was suddenly very aware of the silence in her own head. Armagnac was gone silent. Just sleeping, she hoped. She smiled at Taani, grateful again for someone to talk to. "Not a problem. I suppose lots of folks didn't do any fighting before." She hadn't, either. "You'll pick it up, though, I'm sure. It can be a bit tough at first, but you get used to it." Sherry hoped the new girl would pick it up quick, she seemed pretty nice. "Are you liking the island so far?"

"Do you have any pointers for a new trainee?" Taani did not exactly know fighting, but she knew how seniority worked. Older girls in the dance classes knew what the instructors were like, what they looked for. They knew tricks of the trade. Even if it was just a matter of being friendly in case she needed help in the future, it was not going to hurt her to ask about help now. Or to...well, make friends. It certainly was not her strong point, but she could be friendly, and it did not seem like a half-bad idea. "From what little I have seen I like it." The cafeteria left a bit to be desired, everything seemed fairly strict. "I would not mind a bit of sunshine thought." How little she knew. GrnGriff Its time to get back into the groove

"Hmm..." Sherry mused. "Pointers? Ah! Your phone. You always want to have your phone on you, and make sure you check it if it buzzes. Most orders come down that way, and sometimes we don't get much warning before we have to jump into action. "Other than that," she was thinking very hard. There were so many things she knew she should tell the girl, but her mind had gone blank. Armagnac would know what to say. Right! She should just tell her what Armagnac would say. "Train. Learn how to handle yourself in a fight, and you should be fine," she ended it with a smile. Now was probably not the time tell the girl to be prepared for death and giant bugs. Or maybe it was. Sherry really didn't know. Her smile turned a bit bittersweet at the mention of sunshine. "We do get a bit of sun from time to time, I think." Or maybe those were days with less fog? "But missions do offer us the opportunity to see some amazing sights. I've been to most of the world's continents. Not that we get much sightseeing, but it's still kind of amazing." Her smile was much happier now. It was one of the few things Sherry never got over. Stepping out of a portal into some place she'd never dreamed of seeing.

Her phone then. It was a novel thing to have a phone for anything but absolute emergencies. She had just recently obtained one, so while she knew the basic functions she had taken a good look at the one given to her and then mostly ignored it. It was definitely worth it to know it was a necessity, and she nodded her thanks to the other woman. Of course, the advice to learn how to fight was not tremendously reassuring, though it did reemphasize how important the fighting aspect seemed to be. So far as she could tell her primary goal was to protect, but it would be pointless to send someone with no fighting skills out onto the field. "Oh? Do you travel often?" Actually, that raised a whole other set of questions, things that seemed to niggle at the back of her memory but she could not quite seem to remember, if she even knew at all. Maybe something from the trials? "How do you normally travel here? Does the facility own airplanes or boats?"

She was still wearing that happy smile as she answered the new trainee. "We travel a fair bit. Few missions actually happen on the island, and we can be sent anywhere. I've seen a jungle, the Antarctic, and the Sahara." Sherry suppressed a small shudder at the Sahara. It had been an awesome place, but never led to anything good. "And more places beyond that." A perplexed look crossed her face as she considered Taani's last question. "We do own boats and such, I'm quite certain. But I don't think they get much use. We use portals for most travels." Sherry used her hands to make some vague door shape in the air, in an attempt to illustrate the point. "They are really convenient. Practically instant travel to the other side of the world. Or even other worlds." Sherry paused for a moment, realizing how odd it would have sounded to her once. Totally normal now, though. "You can't just go jumping through them whenever you want though. You have to have permission, unless it's a mission of course. We don't get a whole lot of free time, however. Though, I suppose it wouldn't matter right now. Most of the portals are not up and running at the moment, from what I've heard." She realized she was starting to ramble and stopped herself. "I'm sure the techs will have them back up, soon."
