Darkness had bewitched the land and sea, thrashing echoes of waves tearing down the entrance to Kane's den only furthered his suspicion of what the future awaited on this fateful day. It was the same night that last year brought the blood moon, a mystery never spoken of, to hang in the midnight sky above. Wolves howled, evil cackles crawled across the walls and haunted his ears. There they were again! His eyes widened as the eerie sounds once more filled his cave, ears fallen back as if it would shield them from the terrifying sounds. He was going to go insane, he just knew it. He had to get out before they came for him. It was only a matter of time before this place just wasn't safe any more.

With one powerful kick off of his hind legs he made a gallop for the entrance, pressing the tide for passage to the land, which was proving difficult, once beautiful purple sands swallowed by the angry sea of Spook Night;which was what he had come to know Halloween as. Predators were stalking his every move, so he thought, crouching in the under-bush one false move away from being a midnight snack. He snorted, nostrils flaring as his tail flicked and swished behind him. Headwings fluttering their little feathers as fast as they could go in hope that would make him somehow faster in his retreat.

He knew that this was the night for stalls, candy, pranks and real terror but which one you were in store for you just never knew. It was a trick or a treat and he was simply anticipating the worst.

"No Goblin, Troll, Wolf, Monster thing is going to be munching on me tonight, SO EAT YO' HEARTS OUT BEASTIES."

With that call to the wind, he ran and ran till he couldn't possibly run any more. Panting and heaving, he craned his neck and gasped for breath. Now he was away from his home and treasure hole and ready to fight off the undead apocalypse he had heard so much about. Rumour or not he wasn't taking any god damn tiki chances.

Visani had spent the better part of her day digging a hole; this was an insanely hard process considering all she had was two front hooves. They were now covered in dirt and blood from where she had cut them up digging furiously at the earth. She had cursed her hooves quite a bit this day, why she was digging the hole was unknown. What reason she could possibly have to spend her whole day digging one tiny little hole was beyond comprehension for most, and apparently for her as well. For once she had finished said hole she merely looked at it before turning around fluttering her wings and walking off.

She had a wide smile on her face, which showed her just a touch too sharp for horse teeth. Her eyes were glazed and extremely fuzzy this night. She didn’t even know night had fallen nor did she have any idea what day it was. She had wandered away from home again not that she was completely aware of this; she just knew that something was amiss. She pawed the ground with her front hoof before whinnying when it sent a painful jolt up her leg. Her hoof was lightly scuffed and her ankle was cut up. How had that even happened!? She fluttered her headwings in agitation before flicking her long snake like tail. Well she would just have to track down whoever had done this to her and give them a stern lecture!

She set off at a slow trot, determined to find the one who had done such a dreadful deed to her poor little hoofs. Just who did they think they were? Acting like ruffians and attacking someone who had done nothing wrong. She stopped for a moment then, wait, what had she been doing when she was attacked? Had she been doing something wrong? Her ears fell back against her head and her wings drooped. Oh, well perhaps she had deserved to be scuffed up like this. If she had done something to harm someone then she was the actual monster. Still she couldn’t remember having done anything wrong, nor could she remember even being attacked. Well that was no matter, she would merely find the culprit and ask them what had happened.

Yes, that was it. She would find them and they could tell her what had gone on. If they had attacked her without just cause then she could give them a lecture and if she had deserved it then she could apologize! This was the perfect idea! With this in mind she set off at a bright trot, humming to herself as she pranced along. She was in a jolly good mood all things considered. There had been no winged monsters today, and that was always a major plus. She glanced around herself before she realized something, it was awfully dark! Not so much that she couldn’t see, but the sun was clearly setting. Where had the day gone?! Hadn’t it just been morning! She was sure of it! Someone had gone and stolen the sun again! It was probably those damn winged beasts! Always stealing the sun and hiding it away! She hated them!

She grumbled before her ears caught on the sound of someone screaming. She stilled and her head turned ears perking forward. What on earth were they talking about?! Goblins… GOBLINS! She would show them what a goblin could do! She stormed in the direction of the other’s voice, unmindful in her anger of her poor tenderized hooves.

What she came upon was not something she was expecting. A brightly colored big one was standing there in the middle of nowhere screaming at nothing. Well he was clearly crazy. She nodded to herself before her eyes fell on his little headwings and his oddly finned tail. She turned her nose up and pranced forward.

“YOU! Big one! You are clearly crazy! Stop screaming! AND…” She stilled her tongue for a moment. There had been something… something she was going to do. She tilted her head to the side and stomped her tiny little hoof, which sent pain up her leg once more. “Hey!” She proclaimed! “How dare you do this to me?!” She squawked stepping from hoof to hoof. “How rude! You big beast of a big one! Hurting a little goblin Visani!” She glared at him her tail lashing back and forth and her wings twittering animatedly. It was painfully obvious, that this girl was crazy.

Kane was so busy collecting back his precious breath that he hadn't realised he was being watched, targeted or snook up upon. In fact, he thought he was perfectly safe having run for so long and covered so much ground till it felt as if his chest would burst in to a fireworks display at any given ticking second. He shook himself, ridding the hot sweat he had worked up, returning himself to an upright position as he looked about the area he had settled in.

A forest. That was just perfect! How in the heavens had he managed to end up in the one place he wanted to avoid the most. Well, the kelpi let out the most exasperated sigh rolling his eyes dramatically.

"Way toooo goooo Kane, you freaking idiot. Look what you have done to yourself now." he was less than amused, his face fixing a worried little frown upon it. This was before he noticed he wasn't alone. The goblins yell sent him soaring in to the air, all fours literally flew every which way, his body spun mid air till he was facing the direction of the other, landing in a stumble. "ARGGHHH! What the hell are you!?"

Heart beating rapidly, all his fur was on end as his eyes tricked him. Staring at the dark, creepy looking creature with four small, demonic wings stretched out behind her ears and rear. HER EARS.

"Well would you look at them..." He mumbled, they weren't like his... Were they? Suddenly he wasn't sure of himself. Her eyes were soulless, a milky white and teeth sharp. Even her tail was different. He was definitely sticking to his first reaction. WHAT IN THE NAME OF THE GODS HAD THEY DONE CREATING THIS ONE?

Wait, she was talking to him. Saying something about him being crazy? He was the crazy one? He wasn't sneaking up behind people and yelling at them unaware. He naturally felt a pout coming on at being scolded for something even though he had no idea what he was being scolded for at this point. Yelling and being crazy.

"Yeah, sure. I'm the crazy one!? You're obviously here to eat me, don't deny it! Who else wanders around in the middle of the night sneaking up on people and then confusing them by saying they're doing something wrong? Arggh..." What was he to blame it on, being a stranger or being a woman? He wasn't certain but as his nerves started diffusing he noticed her yelp in her state of fury, eyes directing to her hoof which had obviously caused her some pain as she stomped it to the ground.

He stepped forward, tilting his head down at the little creature. Ears pressed back against his skull suddenly feeling guilty. "Are you hurt?" He shook his head defensively. "What? That is crazy talk! I didn't do this to you, I have never seen you in my life! Honestly. You just snook up on me." He refrained from telling her he was running away from monsters, saving what piece of dignity he had left. He looked to the side. In truth, she was what he had feared;a goblin did she say? This could be the trick. He gulped. Stepping towards her wasn't a great idea after all.

Visani’s wings fluttered in agitation at him.Eat him. She wasn’t going to eat him, what was he even going on about. Though her teeth might be sharp she was not a cannibal. She would not partake of stinky big one flesh! He was clearly crazy, or had her mistaken for another Visani! For this Visani did not eat meat, nor would she ever, if she had anything to say about it. This big one is a trickster! He must be, trying to tricks Visani into eating meat! She fluttered her wings even more, what if he was a recruiter for the skinwalkers?! What if eating meat turned little Visani into a monster? Well she would not have it! This crazy big beast could go away and turn someone else into a flesh eater!

“NO! VISANI DOES NOT EAT MEAT!” She screeched tail whipping back and forth. “You big beast! You will not turn Visani into a monster!” She raged at him taking a few steps back, like he truly was a monster to be feared. He had pretty white wings behind his ears but she was sure he was no innocent like the pretty angel birds. No no, he was evil, and hateful, and worked for the flesh eaters! She was sure of it now! She reared back and lashed out with her front hooves despite the fact she was nowhere near him.

As she fell back to her front hooves she yelped again stepping from hoof to hoof in annoyance. Her ears flicked forward as he pled his case, she looked down at her hooves then back at the flesh eaters pet. “Why should I believe a flesh eater’s pet?” She queued backing up again from him. She didn’t trust him, not one little bit. “You did hurt me!” She stated in the affirmative as she looked him over. How dare he! Trying to turn her into a flesh eater and he hurt Visani. Clearly he was of the evil sort and needed a good hoof to the butt! She snarled at him like a cornered animal. “Why you interrupt Visani’s digging?” She asked huffing at him before her face went blank once more.

“No no… Visani had finished digging.” She whispered to herself her face taking on a quizzical look for a long moment. Yes, yes, she had finished digging and gone off to find the monster that had hurt her. Then she met the flesh eater pet, who wanted to turn her into a monster. He had been the one that had hurt her, right, right that was it. She nodded her head to herself. “Visani is not a flesh eater. He is a monster big one. Hurt Visani. But has wings of big angel bird ones.” She began pacing back and forth in front of the much larger male. “Why you flesh eater pet?” She asked looking at him, as this had clearly been dubbed the most important question.

"You have GOT to be kidding me..." Kane let out, the words airing a special sarcastic tone, groaning towards the end as his eyes continued to watch the theatrical that the tiny goblin creature was performing in front of him. She knew how to put on a show, he would credit her abilities to do that but the rest - She was now, in his mind branded completely insane. The clues were even there! One, she was talking to herself;a clear, born and bred sign. Two, nothing she said made any sense, although guaranteed, it was making a world of sense in her mind... Or not, she was questioning her own answers.

His ears fell back at the accusations and the name calling. BIG ONE? FLESH EATER? This, he cocked his brow at. She was just pulling this load of bullhorns out of her rear. He sighed, dipping his head and closed his eyes. So she wasn't go to eat him? He was going to eat her now? This was some kind of psychological trick, reverse psychology or something a long those lines. He definitely was no meat eater in fact, he would rather die than even think of doing something that ridiculous.

He was putting a stop to this, the situation was getting way out of hand and her voice was starting to cut straight through him, it was as sharp as a knife!

"Okay, okay. So you don't eat meat!" He blurted out, lifting his head only to have it sway side to side to follow her tiny frame as she paced from one direction to the next, still over-whelmed by the aggressive state she had worked herself up in to. "You have to stop! I don't eat meat either and what is with this BIG ONE baloney? This big one has a name." He huffed, puffing air in to the pale bangs in front of his face, they lifted slightly showing both his eyes were directly on hers before falling back in to place once more.

"Oh for the love of..!" Kane tossed his head in a circular motion as if the night and what it stood for alone hadn't drove him to the depths of border line insanity just working himself up, now she was pushing him on the near edges of her own dose of Cuckoo-land-ish, no return era phase of it. Noticing Visani had finally turned her never-ending, ranting attention to him, actually allowing a moment spare for him to say something, he didn't.

He burst out in to laughter, the type that shortly after entering lost it's sound and let out squeaks and hics, he shook his head in all directions, front hooves pounding the ground one after the other in turn. "Ahhh haha! You're something else little lady heheh'" He grinned widely, calming somewhat but still allowing the stray chuckle-hic to escape the corner of his upward twisted lips.

Now there was no way of taking her seriously. He quickly assessed the situation, coughing to clear his throat and rid the moment of his abruptness to show he was 'serious' again and offered a less, patronising smile and more of a sincere one.

"I'm not a flesh eater pet as you put it, I'm just a kelpi that lives in a cave on the beach." He paused, lowering his eyes towards her hooves. "Visani, right?" He tilted his head off to one side, his stylish mane following suit. "Are you sure you didn't just hurt yourself digging and decided, through the obvious display of anger, that you were going to blame the next living thing in sight?"

And as luck has it! It just had to be him...

Visani watched him carefully, her eyes following his every movement. She had gone off on a tirade but it was well suited. He had after all accused her of being a flesh eater and that just wasn’t the case. He needed to learn to mind his manners, not that this big one appeared to have any at all. She waited and listened to what he had to say before she looked down at her own hooves once more. She had been digging, and then she hadn’t and then the ouchies had been there. So it could be that she had hurt herself digging. She cocked her head to the side little wings fluttering.

That was right! She had been digging for gems, and there had been rocks and other things that had caught on her hooves! That is why she had the hurties it had been from the digging she had done. “Oh, big one is smart.” She commented as she looked closer at her hooves. “Yes, Visani had hurt herself digging! She was looking for gems and there had been lots of fancy rocks but no gems. Visani had hurt herself on the rocks and the sticks!” She chimed happily. It was a terrible thing, having a memory that never really remembered everything.

She wasn’t sure when she had been cursed with it, or if she had just been born with it, she couldn’t remember that far back. She swished her tail mildly as she thought before shaking her head. “So big one not flesh eater pet? He is fishy instead?” She asked looking back at him tilting her head. She knew that Kelpie were the big ones that loved water, like her nixie cousins. “If he not flesh eater pet, then why he say Visani eat meat?” She asked curiously looking up at him.

“Visani no eat meat. She no like it, taste like gross.” She affirmed nodding her head. She stilled for a moment, a long moment, not saying a word or moving an inch. She waited and waited, and then suddenly shook her head and looked up at the male once more. “Name? Big one said he has name, what’s name?” She asked moving forward to walk around him in a circle. Her motions slow, be it because she was inspecting him or her hooves hurt was anyone’s guess.

“Big one has wings.” She commented lightly leaning down to nose the tiny wings on his back feet. “Winged fishy.” She nodded solemnly, as if this made sense in some weird way. The other honestly had no idea what he had just gotten himself into, not that Visani seemed to care one way or the other.

It had been the small creatures turn to listen and watch him although, he had to smile when it became apparant that by putting things bluntly helped the situation to get to an actual point. His ears flickered gently as she assessed what had actually caused her to hurt her hoof and it turned out that he had assumed correctly. She had hurt herself. Poor thing. Now he couldn't help but feel sorry for her. With a soft sigh, he nodded his head although one thing she spoke of caught his immediate attention.

She had been... Digging for gems? His eyes widened slightly, then fell to the large diamond that hung around her neck. Funny how that hadn't appeared odd to him before though in truth it wouldn't have stood out any more than the rest of her oddities had. Did goblins like treasure? He tilted his head, fumbling his lips to one side as he thought on the matter. Did she just happen to be a pirate goblin? They were usually the ones you heard about in stories, ambushing the lost-at-sea for their valuables. He would of asked but it didn't look like any more words would be needed to risk setting her off again. Assuming hadn't been the best approach.

He gave a certain nod at her correction. Yes, he was just a fun loving water pony, and not a flesh eater pet. Wherever the hell she got that idea from... He shrugged casually. "Ummm... Well you see-" He paused, he wasn't sure if he was ready to let on that he was running away from monsters quite yet, his pride was already crushed in to shards for being that rediculous. Well, she was crazy so would it even make a difference if he told her? She would probably be chasing something else the minuet she lost interest in him anyway. "Ugh. I thought I was going to eaten or worse, killed by some evil spirits that lurk around. It's Spook Night! Y'know, where the dead and the unimaginable come back to party and haunt all the living?"

They were jealous apparently. He had seen enough to know they weren't just rumours, turtles she was living proof!

"That's why I thought you were going to eat me. You look like a creature of the night." He let out a nervous chuckle. Yet soon caught on to her talking about herself in third person. Why was she doing that!? Why was he questioning it would be the better one to ask. "Yes, I do. My names Kane and everybody has a name... At least that's what I think you were asking me. Like your Visani." Was any of this getting through to her? He looked off to the side for a moment and then brought his dark eyes back to her. It was hard keeping them on her as she circled around him, like a shark. This didn't help his cautiousness at all. He grew uneasy then fell at ease again as she asked her next question.

She was just curious of his wings, that was all. He really needed to get in check and calm down. That did make two of them though. "I do, don't know why, to tell you the truth." He looked up to try spot the feathery additions on his head. He couldn't really say he had recollected his childhood, where his parents had played a part but hadn't been there for him enough to be a memory worth keeping. Eyes hurting from trying to see higher than his vision would let him, he looked down once more.

"Hey Visani. You said you like gems." He smiled, moving his head to one side in a gesture for him to come with him. "I have a cave full of it. Shiny things. It's all junk to me though, really. There is a couple of good finds, I guess. They interest me anyway but the rest are at your disposal if you want to take a look?" He smiled happily. It wouldn't hurt making a friend, he was alone most of the time seeing neighbours every now and again. The last time he had made a good friend out of someone they betrayed him and it had taken some time getting over it but now, it had been long enough.

It was the least he could do. "Maybe I could try help your hoof, I can't make any promises but it's worth a shot."
